Still fun even without lighting! Having to start at the beginning makes me sad though. Still, great entry!

snowinn 2020-10-06 01:38

The game is still really fun to play without lightning! You just have to be more skilled about using dash to avoid their attacks! I also really like the music, it was creative and catchy. Edit: I’m guessing you didn’t make the music since no category but it added to my experience of playing the game anyway! :)

snowinn 2020-10-06 01:39

Oh and having each level zoom out to reveal the next one was a very clever usage of the theme

quak 2020-10-06 01:42

Interesting game! Not really sure how this fits with the theme, but it was fun to play! I did get a little frustrated when an enemy just shot me as soon as I turned the corner, maybe there could be some sort of alert similar to the laser? Other than that, nice submission!

daimadoushi 2020-10-06 01:46

Without the lighting it is impossible to see if you are gonna be shot or not lol.

The room getting smaller and smaller reminded me of that Will Wrights's Spore. Did you get inspired by it ?

tomodachi 2020-10-06 01:47

I'm not sure what happened but my playthrough didn't have the flashlights either. If that function worked it would've been pretty damn fun. It's an interesting concept though and the zoom-out of each level is clever. For some reason the game was a little laggy for me at points but I don't know if that's my computer or something else.

tinykidtoo 2020-10-06 01:53

The effect when you change levels is really cool. Very clever slick animation. Its too bad the web GL is bugged in that way it really is fun. I have experienced the web gl version having unforeseen issues at the last minute. it just doesn't work like the other export options.

One suggestion I would like to make is to add more information on the state of the AI. maybe change their color if they are chasing and have something show that they were alerted.

dexort 2020-10-06 11:36

The game is OK, I had fun playing it. The gameplay is challenging and original. Was a little disappointed that I didn't have a flashlight.

skiwee 2020-10-06 14:01

So sorry about the lighting, I don't think WebGL supported Unity SRP stuff and we had to use URP for 2d lighting. I know its a hassle but if you could, please download the game. Thanks to everyone who reviewed!

skiwee 2020-10-06 14:06

@comicsans yeah, it is a bit challenging, try easy or med mode, it gives you more lives, and downloading it makes it much easier (can see enemy vision)!

skiwee 2020-10-06 14:07

@quak It fits the theme because it feels like you are stuck in loops outside of loops outside of loops and it feels like it never ends because it plays the same animation after every level. Also yes, there is LOS detection, which is why if you download it you will be able to see the enemy vision (like in the screenshots).

skiwee 2020-10-06 14:12

@snowinn thanks for the feedback! Did you end up downloading it or just played without lighting? And yes, I didn't make the music but I really liked it and it was CC0 category.

skiwee 2020-10-06 14:12

@tomodachi Sorry about the lighting, could you download it and update your review? The downloaded version has lighting, its on the same itch page, just scroll down.

skiwee 2020-10-06 14:14

@tinykidtoo Hey, would you mind downloading and reviewing it again? The lighting works there. Also, thanks for the suggestion! I'll definitely do that in future games since its quite simple to implement!

snowinn 2020-10-06 15:05

@tomodachi I played it in the browser because I have a Mac, but it was still quite enjoyable. Nice job man!

skiwee 2020-10-06 16:22

@snowinn I added mac build, I don't have a mac, though, so could you tell me if it works?

snowinn 2020-10-06 18:05

@skiwee for mac there should be a .app or .dmg. All I see in the folders is files and the thing that looks like an application (the v2 file) just opens a text file. I don’t know how to fix it ?

barravelbzh 2020-10-06 18:57

Good game, the infiltration still doesn't seem always possible (on 8 floor or something)

tort60091 2020-10-06 19:00

Simple and fun, great jam! ;)

Thank you for mac build ))

skleembof 2020-10-06 19:15

I have a huge softspot for stealth games.

This was pretty good, I love the crouching mechanic. Unfortunately the level design felt too sloppy to be really enjoyable as a stealth game. The first few areas are good but towards the end it seems like there's no way to avoid being caught and its just a race to the end avoiding damage

fractal-flower-girl 2020-10-06 19:40

I like this game! It was pretty hard after the first couple rooms, though. I really like the audio, and it's fun. Great job!

a333 2020-10-06 19:47

Those vocal samples are lit (even if it's not yours you still pick it ;). And the game is mad as my morning espresso! Absolutely greeat idea with level scaling. Not sure if I'm stuck or not, some levels doesn't seem beatable, so probably I am (or may be I need to git gud). Congrats!

dotsquare 2020-10-06 22:05

It’s very nice ! Congrats ! I really loved the effect where the previous level becomes little and then another one is shown instead ! Very neat effect !

skiwee 2020-10-06 22:30

@skleembof Yeah, the level design was a hard point for us. We spent a long time on mechanics and AI and the shrinking effect of the levels that we didn't have enough time to flesh out many levels. Also to make it really fit the theme both because you are in a physical loop and seem like a time loop we had to do a lot of levels, so they weren't high quality. Thanks for the review! Cheers!

skiwee 2020-10-06 22:32

@barravelbzh @tort60091 Thanks for your reviews! Yes the levels are a little sloppily designed, but they are all beatable, some easier than others. The difficulty is not controlled well because we rushed level design, sorry about that.

skiwee 2020-10-06 22:33

@a333 @fractal-flower-girl Yes, the levels do spike in difficulty. They are all beatable, though. Also you can mad dash through if need be, although that does take the strategy out of the game a little. Thanks for all the kind words and thanks for the review! Cheers!

skiwee 2020-10-06 22:34

@dotsquare haha, thanks! I spent a lot of time and thought on that effect and we were very happy with how it turned out.

dotsquare 2020-10-06 22:41

@skiwee yeah that’s very well done ! It’s the kind of effect you don’t normally do on gamejam since you have not a lot of time, so it’s cool to have succeeded to implement it ! 👍

skiwee 2020-10-07 00:03

@snowinn hmm, I tested it on my mac and it works. Its the file inside the MacOS folder called Ludum Dare v2. I don't really know why it opened as a text file, but you can try opening with terminal option.

snowinn 2020-10-07 00:08

I tried that and it worked ! The lights do add a whole new level of strategy to the game, very impressed with what you have made :)

skiwee 2020-10-07 02:07

@snowinn thanks! this sounds stupid but did you update your review?

snowinn 2020-10-07 02:21

@skiwee yeah I did!

etrealjunior 2020-10-07 10:30

I liked your game my congratulations, I also did one if you want to know, and give me your feedback I am very grateful, this is the link https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/resurrection

eugenik 2020-10-07 10:56

Nice concept,bro! Really enjoyed it.

dharby 2020-10-07 20:16

I'm a big fan of stealth-based games. Glad to see an entry like this. Nice work!

sophiemae0 2020-10-07 20:19

This game is addicting to play and super satisfying. I loved how you managed to seamlessly transition from level to level. Great job :)

guimoliveira 2020-10-07 20:40

Nice game! :)

r3l0ad1 2020-10-07 21:07

Nice game, the graphics are simple but the gameplay is enticing and well balanced, nice work!

codehacher123 2020-10-07 22:31

@eugenik Thanks so much! @dharby Thanks, it took the first 3 hours to brainstorm the idea. @sophiemae0 Yea, the level transitions are pretty cool, thanks for playing! @guimoliveira Thanks! @r3l0ad1 Yep, we decided not to spend too much time on graphics and we wanted to keep it simple.

denzil-gomes 2020-10-08 15:17

Nice job on the wall hug, simple and intuitive I liked it. Nice effect with the dash too. Good tempo music. The level transition was pretty nice although a bit janky when you start the new room. couple of things I'd suggest, I got to a room where it was impossible to sneak past. not enough space behind the enemy and wall so perhaps making every room have the ability to be 100% done without being seen. Also when starting a new room once I was immediately seen which felt unfair. Perhaps a safe are right as you start. Other than that though its very fluid, fast and easy to understand. Good job

local-minimum 2020-10-08 16:28

Quite fun little game. I tried it a couple of times and got a few cycles out. It did feel a bit unfair sometimes when it came to retrying a level, there was a bit too much rng in the first second where the enemies were and such, so perhaps give the player just a little time at the start of each level before the triangles light up their search-lights. Maybe they all start small? I also once got two triangles almost on top of each other refusing to move and guarding the exit. Otherwise very well made game and cool level-transitions.

le-don 2020-10-09 11:47

This game has solid mechanics, but it really suffers from the level design. Especially having guards looking at the start point right at the beginning of a level is really unfair. Also don't forget an option to quit the game via menu or some key.

tomssuli 2020-10-12 19:20

Fun sneaking game. I don't know if it was bug, but when you got seen and die, the enemy will still aggro to you when you respawn. Also it's problematic that enemies see you right when you come into a level. Once I was shot right when the level started.

unfocused-locust-games 2020-10-19 00:08

Wow, what a fun stealthy game! I liked the simple mechanics, but the later levels were a bit hard, even on the easiest difficulty.
