Nice graphics. I too love pixel art so this is right up my street
I found the 'hitboxes' for transitioning from upper levels to lower to be a little off. It was sending me down holes even when it looked like I was still on the edge of the platform (completely on the edge, by a character's width). That made it a little frustrating some times as I would fall when I didn't want to.
Also there were a couple of platforms on the screen to the right of the flippers I couldn't jump on.
I finished it without finding the bow or the "fast forward ball" - it was a nice little game I enjoyed playing
There is a portion of the map where you can fall for two screens consecutively. Doing so gave me enough down velocity to fall out of bounds and be stuck underneath the floor.
Very nice platformer that works with the theme.
One bug was that when you jump up to a room and dash or move to the side i got inside the wall and had to restart. Another was some platforms was missing their physics body, so i fell through them. Otherwise it was a neat little with nice music!

@kazatan thank you :) literally you don't need the arrows if you don't want to kill anyone (and the "dash" item isn't necessary - it is just nice :D). But the other items should be needed to complete the game.

@triplefox oh thank you - i need to test this a little bit more.
Really nice game. Good implementation of the theme. I like the back and forth of exploring areas you've already visited and can now access after gathering the tools/gear

Pixel art was very pleasing, fun to play. Good job
The sound and sfx reminded me of Pitfall, not sure why.
Really loved the art, the enemy being beer was funny, and the game was lots of fun! Great work.

The art and the music are pretty good, even if the sounds of the effects are a little too loud in my opinion. The game is playable but I have had some collision bugs, for the room that gives access to the other room with the bow for example. In the level with the water I also got under the map unintentionally and I've been stuck. I have also been teleported to a blue map when I tried to ascend. I do not know if it's wanted but we can finish the game without having the dash. Aside from these little problems, the game remains fun overall, good job.
Fun game! I particularly like the belly animation. It was a nice progression too, starting from nothing. It felt a bit punishing with full restart after one mistake! A bit random music, but I liked it. Good job, I enjoyed playing this one :)

Your pixel art style is really fun , and for making a metroidvania in a jam, your level design was solid! Making sure you could get the proper items in an order to still be able to explore and find others sounds time consuming, but it paid off. Nice job!
Awesome choice with the art style, just loved the graphics. Sounds are great too! Good Job.
It's easy to catch on, very smooth and nice to look at. Are there save points? Or did I just die really early before getting to one? if there aren't, it would be nice to have because if it brought me back to when lights turned on I would have gave it another go. But anyway, everything else is pretty good

Thank you for the feedback.
@emiliabea Currently not and as it was previosly planned as rougelike metroidvania. As the theme is "Start with nothing" i thought it would be Bad if you have everything 😂

@sacdeneu thank you for your bug report. I had this issue too and try to fix it. But the Dash isn't necessary (it was initial planned to dash something with it but i had no idea what and why so i kept in as "just for fun").

Very fun game ! Nice pixel art and music ! Great job ! Congrats !
very nice game -- art was great and the controls were good too -- i died too many times and was hoping for a save point tho -- thanks for making it

@paulhocker thank you :) I Think in a possible PostJAM Version i would implement it for sure :)

@jupiter-hadley thank you so much :)
Wow this is a compo game? The graphics are so good, really coherent and well done, goes really well with your lighting system. The fact that you have music and sfx that are good as well just blows my mind haha. I like the concept (we went for a similar one with unlocking abilities as go along), I think it fits the theme really well. Overall a super strong entry; you should be proud of what you have accomplished

Unfortunately your game suffers from trial and error gameplay, where nothing is really clear until you die. Even though the character does the mario jump animation, you cannot kill enemies by jumping on their head - you die instead. also the lava was very hard to see so i just walked right into it. the background music is awful.
BUT I like the sprites!

Really nice! The Jump back up is a little bit curious, and the sound is here and there a bit beepy, but in general its a great one!

@phaix thank you :) yeah it could have potential maybe^^
@m-dam yeah you cannot kill them (thats why you need the arrow). But i understand what you mean - thank you for your feedback :)
@simon-rahnasto thank you very much simon :) i trained the last weeks much - and did everything bymself :) i thought a little bit metroid (the NES one) like (but in a very smaller way). I am proud of it.. a little bit :)

Impressive compo work! I found the 1 hit KO to be pretty frustrating though, and the loss of items that followed. There also felt like there was some tonal clash between the humor of the situation and the environment setup. Everything was dark and spooky, yet there were goofy enemies and a silly song playing. Still, everything played well and the pixel art was very nice, a nice compo entry!
I made it to the end without the Dashing item though lol. The scratches in the music was a bit annoying to be honest. But the gameplay was nice. Cool jumps. Love the detail to the background, and animations too. I got spooked the first time I walked into an enemy and died :joy:

Thank you @itsdanidre . I don't know why but the scratches only appear in the Webbuild on not on every computer.
this is so cute! such a charismatic main character! the light effect makes the games really polished, there is an enemy that looks like a bottle and it is my favorite, sometimes it moves too fast from side to side though, seems like its hella crazy lol
Amazing.

Lovely game. Mechanics are solid and it's a great fit for the theme. Graphics are excellent. Amazing overall!
I had some issues with the controls an platform placement at times, but apart from that very polished presentation and big respect for getting a Metroidvania done! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kSZQiTfcXF8

I saw it in the Stream yesterday :) Thank you for your warm words and i should really try to optimize (maybe for a post LD Version). And find this annoying teleport bug where you see nothing anymore...
I ended up falling through 3 screens and got stuck into the void. Guess the character really drunk too much.
There are solid graphics and sounds on this games. The combinations gives a nostalgia feeling of old console games and the controls works with precision.
Besides the falling bug, i also notice a small high pitch noise that occurs with some frequency, someties associated with the falling on ground noise, sometimes not, dont know if its something of the WebGL build, but is kind of annoying.
Overall, its a really nice game. Congrats on a good job!

@derek-volker thank you. Yeah that has something todo with the WebGL Build that i only on some computers happen and on other not.
Very beautiful game. The light effects and the overall art styles really made it look incredible. Took me a couple tries to reach the end, I originally kept missing the flippers. I thought the design of the rooms was neat, I liked that you had to pay attention to where you are, and made me feel like exploring a lot. The lighting helped with that too, for example in the room with the enemy in the pit at the bottom left, I immediately went to check that out after I got the bow, because there might have been a door there. Thought it was cool how the design aided the sense of exploration. Liked it a lot, well done!

I really liked the idea for the game and the art style is very nice! I only had two complaints: the controls were a bit slippery for me (I was playing the web version, I don't know if that matters) and the music got repetitve very quickly.
Other than that, it's a solid entry!
Super impressive for a compo dude, really like what you did with the light effects. Graphics and music were neat. :)
I got stuck after falling into the floor after gaining the bow & arrow. I think I got lost somewhere on the transition between rooms.

It's fun. Pixel art is cool. Game level is good, too. If the character dies, it's hard to start over from the beginning, but good. However, the items seem to be a little distant. I felt a long way to get the candles and get the jump boots.

Thank you @gamefive and @johnnysix . I will try to fix it.
Nice game with some fancy retro vibes both graphically and in the sound department! I also liked collecting different items to get past certain spots, giving it a little adventure game like spice. I especially liked the FOV with candle light as at some points you just had to jump into darkness to see what the light would reveal. :-) With my skills I would've dearly needed more lives, though. :-D

Very nice game with nice pixel art.
Music and sound are nice too !
Control are responsive, jumping feels good and you can succeed in precision jump even if your character is a fatlard so drunk it got home in another dimention.
Some platform are a bit sneaky with the lighting (which is innovative, I must say.) It could have been good to add a few checkpoint here and there (or lives) if you're going that way because jumping in the dark might lead you to death and to starting over again, which can build frustration. Especially if it feels unfair. Which it often does, because of the lighting since you must take leap of faith from time to time.
Got stuck twice because I fell into texture while falling from the screen above.
I had fun playing it and it has a nice aestetics. Very good work!

Nice idea with gathering powerups.
Some scene transitions were glitchy. The scene above this one was pretty weird. If you jump down in a certain way you can get stuck in the wall. I was able to escape by spamming dash. claimbeer.jpg

Oh thank you @zuf.
Nice art. Controls are a bit loose for a platformer. Also, would be nice to have a little pause after a scene transition, like in mario. Also, I managed to get stuck in platform one time.
Other than that, it was a pretty fun game. Good idea with picking up character abilities.

Cool game! Many many rooms, nice art and nice concept, although when i was falling off from the upper room it took me on the bottom room even when i didn't want to, the hole's collider were quite off, so i kind of went confused sometimes

Very nice work! And the theme is funny :p
Game was pretty fun, the movement was all pretty well tuned, and I liked the progression as you collected items. I wish dying didn't send you back to the start, but luckily it doesn't take too long to get back where you were. One thing I wasn't a huge fan of was one of the sounds in the music was really piercing to me, so I had to mute the game, but other than that I liked the game, good work!
I played this on stream with @omiya-games. https://youtu.be/No9PjQTpi0s?t=1997
When I played this game, the movement seemed have so serious a problem that I wondered whether it was running correctly. I have now had the same experience on a different machine.
For some reason, after the player releases the movement key, they seem to continue moving for a good while too long, especially for a game with some relatively small platforms in it. Even more bizarre is the fact that the player doesn't even decelerate during this time of 'extra' movement. The player continues moving at a constant speed, and then suddenly stops.
This makes the platforming of the game rather frustrating.
In addition, the sound seems broken? There are some unpleasant beeps that almost sound like sound errors, they are unpleasant to listen to.
Overall, I think this game needed another pass on the movement, and audio. The idea of unlocking basic character abilities does seem cool.

@allbetsareoff sorry i saw your comment just now :) thank you for the feedback and you are fully right. i am currently looking at my games and check which are good enough to work further on it lol. Sorry for the frustrating controls (i know which issues you meant).
