I am gonna try it out

First:Where is the download link?

Second:You are in Compo. You're not allowed to use not your music!

kazatan 2019-10-08 18:54

Also can't see a dl or play link

@nikita-demidov it looks like that site generates music based on an algorithm. Think it would be a bit of a grey area as to whether it counts as a Content Generator - which would be allowed.

zenris 2019-10-10 16:52

@kazatan and @nikita-demidov Sorry for the missing link, have added it now.

Programs like sfxr are allowed, that program generate sound effects, so would imaged it would be allowed for music generation to. Have used that site before and never had any complaints.

I was convinced it would be too easy just placing the spawn point right over the goal, and then I saw the score :) It's barebones, but entertaining. There's a bug when you place platforms side by side and then try to jump over the connection point.

Awesome! The editor is really snappy and responsive. It's a great idea and I think it could be iterated more on and feel extend its potential if the character felt as responsive as the editor!

Here's a setup I did:

Great work!

Music is pretty good, and the interfere is responsive. Jumping and character movement could be a little quicker, but this actually helps since I'm really bad at jumping anyways! Encountered a bug where I couldn't jump and got stuck if I initiated the jump while snuggled up against a block. Other than that, very clever game!

This is a nice idea and I appreciate the forgiving jump physics given the size of the platforms. I ran into a few bugs with menu items behaving strangely a couple times but it was fun to play around with.

I found you can just place the spawner inside the end goal, so thats what I did

demuss 2019-10-11 14:25

The idea is great... but i seen few games where you build your own level on this game... BUT i didn't saw something like you did... the harder you make the level the more you get points pretty good solution to auto winning : P and adds that optimalization factor editor felt good, movement is not great not terrible...

overall nice game!

goupixm 2019-10-11 21:29

Good game ! You're alone and I think it's really a good job ! I'm a little bad to jumping in the game like this, but it's really fun and interesting ! Thank you!

tort60091 2019-10-11 21:33

The idea is great. I just like this game )

leonard-graf 2019-10-11 21:35

There was nothing preventing me from playing the spawner right next to the goal, so it was kind of trivial. I like the idea to create your own platforms though.

Great game idea! Interesting balancing system and gameplay. However player movement in the game feels quite unpolished and unnatural, the gravity makes it feel like I'm underwater. This is a major defect given that it is one of the core gameplay verbs, and these verbs should be the most polished and enjoyable given that they are what the player will be doing most of the time. More indicators could be used so that the player can project certain things like how high they can jump, this could be shown in the level editor. Also some kind of line which is cast between the start and end point while you place it, showing the points you will gain would also help for indication. More interesting "non-static" level pieces could be added, which all provide different emergent situations when combined together. This will add more strategy to the gameplay, and encourage the player to be creative with how they approach the objective. Artwork is also a bit bland; more colourful and animated visuals can go a long way in making the game feel more alive. Overall I really liked the game concept, but the gameplay needs a bit more polish. Well done!

Cool game idea! I build a level and then played it for like 5min only to realise it's impossible.

For a remake I would recommend a "possible checker" which(as the name says) checks if the level is possible.

Also: could you please Opt-out yourself from Audio? Because(though it's made by a generator = legit) isn't made by you.

honey-pony 2019-10-12 21:13

Overall solid concept. Free-form games are pretty neat in my opinion because they let you prioritize which aspects of the game you like. In my case I was prioritizing score but you can also clearly prioritize speed here

There are a few little nitpicks I have: - The hitbox on the spikes are too big. Several times I died when it looked like I was in midair (not even touching the spikes). - There's a physics bug that activates if you build a "staircase" (i.e. several small blocks placed corner-to-corner) and clip into the wall. You kind of get frozen on the platform and have to restart. - There's no real use for the medium or large platforms, because you can get the same effect by stacking several small platforms next to each other for cheaper (although this didn't effect my run as there was nowhere I needed larger platforms).

It also might make sense to make some sort of grid that you have to snap all the parts to: that way there will be a specific place to put the spawn point that will be "farthest away," and it will be possible to figure out which combinations of platforms are specifically possible, for building more optimal levels.

I'm also not sure if there would be some way to make running the game for speed more interesting than just putting the spawn above the goal. Just something to think about.

Anyways, cool game.

Loved the concept. Great job! :)
