LD45 — Start with nothing

Fragmented Reality by Syrapt0r 2019-10-07T19:58:44Z

This has a really solid atmosphere and I appreciate that you went with a more epistemological approach to the theme. It feels fresh. The controls feel smooth and responsive although some of the more delicate jumps were tricky to pull off given the speed of everything. Really nice music too and I like the way it builds up.

Unlock Everything by DDRKirbyISQ 2019-10-07T00:33:15Z

Very impressive. That gag with the conveyor belts was enough to win me over.

I gave up on the boss though. It's like starting megaman from the beginning and then choosing to fight the toughest boss with no equipment. When he started tossing multiple blades at once I gave up - I can't do bullet-hell style manoeuvres with a slow character on conveyor belts.

Excellent work.

HOBO RAMPAGE by Ntimi 2019-10-08T00:47:01Z

Fun game, I really liked the grungy atmosphere. It kind of had a reverse difficulty curve but that's appropriate given the theme. That shotgun is good shit. Props to the artists too, this game has a lot of character.

A Platfomer by ZenriS 2019-10-11T14:09:57Z

This is a nice idea and I appreciate the forgiving jump physics given the size of the platforms. I ran into a few bugs with menu items behaving strangely a couple times but it was fun to play around with.

The Nothings by Stefanie Leitch 2019-10-06T23:16:02Z

Nicely put together, especially the presentation. No sooner was I told to go talk to the mayor that I remembered the one NPC wearing a top hat - that's good design right there.

The hit feedback during combat felt quite underwhelming. I think it's just a matter of adding some extra effects to make things punchier. It was quite difficult to hit the enemies too, they're pretty relentless with their bullets. My steadily increasing fire-rate gave me some confidence though.

Maybe All Alone by bb_buster 2019-10-07T20:05:44Z

It's a shame you couldn't finish it, it seems like a fun premise and the execution reminds me of old DOS games. I'm presuming the grid-based movement was to simplify the networking involved.

An Egg From Nothing by ragtagradical 2019-10-07T20:12:29Z

This has a really nice mood to it and flying around bumping into things feels good. With some more development this could make for a really good rhythm game or physics toy. Those grabby-ass monsters give me some primal fear too.

ØJE by Gaming Night 2019-10-14T18:17:00Z

Nice project. The artstyle was crisp and unique, and I appreciated the subtle animation on the player's cloak, and the way the trees sprout from the ground. The game has a really chill atmosphere which I dug.

Soy Sauce Man by Memedev0 2019-10-07T02:35:35Z

Really unique and I dug the style. It took me a while to figure out some of the nuances of the powerups but I got there eventually. The percussion when fighting the boss sounds very snappy and crisp but the bass drum whenever there is a collision is a bit much. There was a lot of tuneless rumbling going on between the cool stuff, especially when I got stuck under the boss. I liked the speed boost powerup the best, it felt the most balanced and fun to me.

Zero/Hero by Beshr Kayali 2019-10-07T19:48:00Z

This has a nice vibe and I like the rounded CRT look you used - it's very appealing. The physics make the game incredibly difficult though. It's too sticky and too slippery at the same time. The player seems to clip into the ground and become slowed very easily.

The Game of Mao by Danny88881 2019-10-07T01:21:47Z

Really nicely put together. The subtle escalation of rules and difficulty is well handled, although some of the difficulty comes from the awkward jump height. Alternation melted my brain for a few minutes before it all clicked into place. The overall style is very appealing and I like the soft corners on everything.

Timeline Door by o2o 2019-10-07T19:37:59Z

This is really clever and you kind of blew my mind once I figured out how it all works. It's tricky trying to coordinate everything.

Something Special by SKDF 2019-10-09T02:54:02Z

This is a fun premise and I like the escalation of challenge. There's some good minimalist design going on too with the colours and the particles.

PUNCH BLOCK SHOOT by CooperJKnapp 2019-10-07T01:50:58Z

This is a fun set of mechanics. I didn't have anyone to test with, but I messed around and tried to break everything I could. It's solid.

The upgrades system is an interesting take on the fighting game formula and it feeds into your core mechanics really well.

The clean cartoon art and the single-keyboard multiplayer takes me back to the newgrounds era (in a good way) and I appreciate how straightforward and fun it all is.

Let There Be Light by michaelaranda 2019-10-11T14:15:48Z

Really nice use of music here, and it's a unique design. I like the way it evolves on its own with a little nudge.

Well I could only get so much done by myself but I appreciate the concept. I always wanted to try making some freeform multimedia type of game so it's great to see one in action. It's a bit limited at the moment, I think giving players more movement options would help improve it (ie: applying jump physics and drawing arcs through the air, etc).

I also ran into a bug in which one of the cursors left the screen and suddenly started moving much faster than before.

start with nothing by xart2012 2019-10-07T01:25:32Z

All variations of the same joke and every one of them made me laugh. I regret nothing.

Spooky: The one who lost everything by Susumu Asaga 2019-10-11T14:28:32Z

Really nice style and atmosphere. I liked the unique set of mechanics when controlling the ghost, they was well conceived.

Priest of RAGE by TheVideoGamester 2019-10-06T23:49:52Z

I like the concept - especially how the game is totally unplayable right at the beginning and you need to buy even the most primitive of graphics. The farming for money quickly becomes tedious though, and I didn't much like replaying the first level even after buying the second one. It felt like a long time to make any progress. The way the level gradually transforms and becomes legible is fun to watch though.

Priest of RAGE by TheVideoGamester 2019-10-07T00:56:38Z

@thevideogamester

That's fair. If I'd unlocked something like that a bit earlier I would've kept playing for sure.

The Darkness by Iconocatstudio 2019-10-07T02:04:59Z

Spooked me a little. The rounded-off corners that you naturally slide along is an incredibly elegant detail and it makes the whole thing work much better than I expected. After I had enough light I did end up wandering for quite a long while looking for the key and the game was less tense after that. If you plan to continue with this I'd suggest introducing a pac-man ghost into the maze to follow people and give them heart attacks.
