I love the style you gave to this game. Its a lot of work trying to clear out the place, and I guess you start with nothing in the sense that you are trying to make nothing happen and there is first everything. Great job with this game.
This game feels more like an experience than a game. It is as simple of a platformer as you say it is, but its topped with a beautiful aesthetic and it became something of its own. Gameplay wise, theres not a lot to the game, but at least theres plenty of levels and its eye candy throughout.
Game very short. I understand you only get 48 hours but still. At least the concept was very interesting. If you continue after the Ludum dare, Id love to see what this turns into.
Well dang, this is a nice lil music game you got here. I find my self just lost in the game after a while when the notes come down fast and frequently. Love the animated pixel background, and almost everything about the game. The slow down notes are probably there to help, but they almost feel abrupt in the way it slows the game down and it makes continuing the game harder than it would have been without for me, but loved the game otherwise.
Your game is absolutely mesmerizing. Its easy to lose track of time just trying to make an enormous black hole or trying to make a solar system only to make a pool table of stars. I love it.
Interesting box pushing puzzle game, I can't see the theme too much in it because you are just pushing boxes and grabbing lightbulbs. Where does the name "Start with nothing, End with Nothing" come from? Its fun, but might have been better with a different theme.
Feels like a classic we never got. Id love to see where this game evolves but it also seems to go on forever. Oh, and should mention that it seems the faster you go the less you cover. Like the game lots.
Love this game. It feels great just playing. Philosopher's stone feels a little too difficult to get, ive been able to optimize the game down to getting it at 6 hours left, but at that point theres no point in having it. Very fun game though.
Well, i guess nothing does matter. Interesting spin on the theme, you literally start the game with nothing. Very interesting puzzles as well, some of these are really clever. And also Sooo mannyyy levels. How did you have the time to make all of these? Loved it. Great job!
I feel like the game is a little unfairly difficult. The shots move a bit too slow and the tree trunk rng really doesn't like you. It takes a bit to actually start the game because you get something that you can eat, but once you start the game gets pretty good.
This game looks really really good. I love that soundtrack too. I think theres a bug though because instead of wall-jumping off of the one block wall in the starting room, i clip through it preventing me from progressing any further in the game. Its a shame, because the first level was lots of fun.
10/10 Voice acting. Pretty nice boss rush with a story. Donut could be a little bit more clear how to hit, and controls seem to be a little bit buggy what with getting random 4x jumps. Overall looks like you had fun making this and it seems to bleed into the game.
LOL. This game is beautiful. Perfect ending. Just great.
Not my Tim Tams! This game is just ridiculous fun. Frantically running around the black square and listening to people randomly shouting what the perpetrator was wearing. A tooltip for the accuse button could have been nice, but the game is brilliant the way it is right now.
Strange bug where only enemy tanks spawn from cities despite capturing them, but its quite a fun game when it works. Would love to see this concept expanaded upon into a full game, because this game is just great.
Well this is a fun lil card game. Feels familiar somehow... What's with the random 5th card that switches between two different cards? Its pretty fun to look at all of the cards and just randomly decide "What will make a decent looking game", but then you publish your game and its trash so you try again and eventually you get better and you make better games. Its satisfying to play. I like it.
Ok, interesting game, but the building are very very hard to actually build for whatever reason. Are they colliding with your footprints? Oh, and the boss guy somehow clipped his way on top the thing im supposed to defend and he got very hard to hit. Without its bugs, good game, but with them, slightly less good game. Good job though.
Ok, I see what you are going for with this game. Extremely simple and can be quite entertaining if you can split your attention in far too many ways to be reasonable. I liked it, but the game has a number of issues, such as game items spawning off of their screen and platformer guy having some really strange collision. Oh, and where does the game end? The game has a lot of appeal early on but theres only so much I can personally get of clicking a button and multitasking 4 microgames. It was a great idea, and given more time (you only had day two, so this was a bit more impressive for the time you had) it can probably flourish into something great.
@gerugames Yeah I can see the problem with the instructions. I probably should have taken the extra time to add more help commands to explain the game a bit more, once you get 400 Peeps you are able to upgrade the game itself to a full graphical experience which is much easier to play and basically gives you the ability to steamroll the rest of the game. Thank you for taking the time to comment, this is my first ludum dare and Id love to hear what I can improve for the next one.
Sorry to hear that you had to stop early, Its definitely something I could do after the compo if I continue working on this, but thanks for the feedback and thanks for trying.
@inventivum-games Orbs cap at 100 Peeps to encourage expansion. You need to capture more orbs by selecting your maxed orb and targeting an orb you can target. As the GUIUpgrade costs 400 Peeps you need, using the minimum amount of orbs, 4 orbs, but you can use more orbs. I hope you can get through the rest of the game.
@alex-lutay You know what, That actually sounds like an excellent idea. Thanks for giving it a try and for the advice. Its a shame I had 1 hour before the deadline which I could have realized it sooner.
@zuf Thank you for taking the time for a solid review of my game. I really appreciate all of your feedback. Command line - Yeah, that had problems that I noticed after actually releasing the game. More lines and history would have been great to add. GUI - I know what you mean about the highlights, if I had the time to figure out outlines I probably would have used those instead. Also noting your suggestion about individual population numbers, I have no idea why I didn't do that and left the single counter for total peeps, It wouldn't have taken too long to implement and made the GUI stage so much more readable. Again, thanks for pushing through the whole game. This is my first LD, and compo at that, and your feedback will help me a lot in the future make better design choices, and hopefully make something better for the next one.
@zerptin sorry to hear you were having trouble. All commands should be typed exactly as listed in the help menu. If this is not working, please tell me so I can try to patch the game.
For a first game ever, not bad. You could probably make the second level a little bit more open because the ceiling tends to block any jump you could try to make, but not bad.
I like what you were doing with your play on the theme. Game was ok, not too special other than it's concept. You can pretty much bruteforce the levels though because you can jump up any slope that's under 90 degrees, including basically 90 degrees.
It seems like you already know about enemies spawning on you, but is there supposed to be duplicate upgrades at the same time? You game is a fun shoot em up, but there are a bit of bugs here and there that subtract from the experience.
The Game Jolt page doesn't link to the game. Would like to try the game though, looks pretty and seems interesting.
The game is pretty fun. Id like if I could see what enemy was being targeted though, the faster attack upgrade doesn't do too much early on and the targeting, at least without knowing what I am targeting, is a bit jank and inconsistent.
Very fun game. Simple idea but works so nicely. That being said I might have broke the game by getting the catchbot to clip out of the map after building up a bunch of speed. I was able to vaguely figure out how the AI worked and used that to manipulate it into building speed indefinitely by either having the catchbot spinning around me or using getting it stuck in an array of gravity wells, and when it eventually made it out it immediately passed through the bottom wall. Adds to the fun in the game, but the game is softlocked unless there is some way to end the run that I have missed or the catchbot eventually makes it through. I have the game running as I write this to check if that will ever happen, but until then.A bug.png
Like the song, noticed a bug though. It seems that if you pick up an item while its flashing, about to disappear, and the item is invisible when you pick it up, the item stays invisible when it is thrown. Other than that, the game could really use like a score system or an end screen or something. It just ends and resets itself with no warning other than the timer at the bottom of the screen.
Its very nostalgic, feels a lot like old web Alien Hominid. I want to see where this game goes, brings back good memories and I can see this making some more.
Small update in the comments real quick. Small bug with the tile placement that lets this game be completely solved. Should I leave it in, fixing it is just changing one number? In testing I was able to solve the game in 50 turns with end score 8000.
This music is so good, its gonna get stuck in my head. This game is just really fun, the early game is as simple as it is difficult, and then the difficulty in the game shifts drastically from the game's mechanics to your own greed. Over upgrading is as dangerous as not having enough upgrades. Can we get a downloadable version?
Idea interesting, but the sound was a bit loud. Also it seems that if you have a request to talk to a coworker who already has a request for you, you cannot complete the first coworker's request. I like the art style for the game though.
