Projectiles are way too small to have fun with the shooting mechanics in this game. Its a great looking game and a great concept, but the difficulty due to the enormous scale and high speed of everything overshadows it.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD45 → Hadron

I start the game, choose a level and soon die for no reason.
Again and again.
Maybe I didn’t understand something ...
Really awesome exploration! The battles were so hard. Love the controls!
i saw some stars but coulnt figure out the controls. I dont have gamepad, and keys on the keyboard did not do anything...
The keyboard controls aren't working I guess.
@tero-pulkkinen Sorry haha, I didn't put time aside to explain stuff to the player. There are two "views"
Galactic view Solar view
Galactic view is the screen where you see all the dots. You can click on each one. These dots are solar systems. If you clock "Go", you will travel to the solar system (Solar view) where you can collect resources from planets using your mining laser, kill enemies using your spacey rifle, or sell resources at the Station (the triangular object orbiting close to the sun).
When in the solar view, you can... W / S = forward / backward A / D = rotate
Shift + W / S = boost (Very important)
LMB = mining laser (Your mining laser starts out very small. I noticed that people don't notice the mining laser when they've zoomed out as you can't see or hear it so they assume LMB does nothing).
Space = shoot (Shooting is poorly made so I wouldn't recommend trying to fight enemies. It's my first try at making an AI and it actually turned out better than I expected!)
Thanks for the review! :) I had plans for a game that was too complicated for a Ludum Dare which resulted in me failing to provide a lot of features and QoL to the player... but i'm still proud of what I did get done :)
@lanalux Thanks for playing! I tried to make a game that was too complicated which resulted in poor QoL for the player. However, I do like the exploration side of it too. I agree, fighting was buggy as hell xD
@lomt1k The player spawns at a specific location, but sometimes the sun will spawn on top of the player. I didn't have time to fix it, sorry! Thanks for trying my game though!
@musicblox Thanks for the review! I agree. In trying to make something impressive, it resulted in me making something that is cool at first but quickly becomes bad. An example of this is the Station (shop / the triangular thing orbiting close to every sun. Fly into it) where the UI looks awful. I made the shop and upgrades system about 3 hours before submission because I spent so much time on everything else, I hadn't given the player any reason to collect resources or kill enemies! A little more feasibility knowledge and project management could have gone a long way in this game. Thanks again!
There's a seed of an interesting game here, you managed to put a lot of content in it. The AI is quite good, even if the combat isn't enjoyable. I completely mistook the mining laser for a combat weapon (glanced over controls), so my attempts at having fun with combat were... ouch :)
I found keyboard+mouse to work fine, but my gamepad didn't respond mostly, aside from shooting/zooming.
Wow. Pretty ambitious project! I think it's great. I cruised around. Tried to buy some stuff. Had no money. Picked a fight with some one. Won! Felt like a true space pirate. Picked a fight with some one else. Lost. Good stuff! The controls took some getting used to and the space battles are super hard (it's hard to aim, generally). But there are so many nice little features in here! Great work.
I really like how the game looks, but it was hard to figure out what to do at first.
@hajden Thanks for playing! I had so many features to add to the game (I added the shop about 3 hours before the submission deadline) so I didn't have any time to go back and tweak things. It was too ambitious for a game jam. I can't wait to participate in another one!
@human-writes-code Thanks for the review!
@holyblackcat Yeah, two things I didn't have time to do: provide instructions to the player and time to tweak things so the game works as intended. Thanks for the feedback!
it is impossible to play, but it is a really interesting idea
@cornettheory Thanks for the review!
Great atmosphere and general exploration feel. The game could use a bit more feedback when player does something as well as instructions at the start. Like others have mentioned the battles and controlls make it more difficult than it should be, but I feel like it's a matter of tweaking them slightly.
Once I got going, things went pretty smoothly. Good amount of content! Thanks for listing the controls I was lost at first.
@marcin-j The biggest problem was I tried making a game that needed more time for development. I had no time to tweak stuff like you said. Thanks for the feedback!
@twinturbodouche Thanks for the feedback!
Hi, I clicked start in the menu and it transitioned but then nothing seems to be happening, I'm stuck on this opening scene with the stars: hadronstuck.png
@tadeas-paule Click on one of the dots. They are solar systems which you can visit
@n0ught234 ohh ok didn't try that. Thanks, I will try it again then
Loved the music, but don't really know how to play; having visited a star not sure what I'm supposed to do next.
As an aside, the Linux download does not work (broken graphics), but the web version seems fine on Chrome (still on Linux)
Cool concept, love the particle effect. Here's my experience, clicked on a star and I moved towards the arrow (Didn't know the arrow pointed towards my mouse). Couldn't find enemies. Went back to another star, Couldn't find enemies. I was aimlessly moving.
I think some visual aids would have improved my experience by alot.
Keep making games! This has some potential.
@bcvery1 Thanks for the feedback!
@trypants Thanks for playing!
Maybe I'm missing something (or maybe I'm just bad at video games!) but I found it brutally difficult to mine anything, and even harder to fight the enemies...
The sound effects are very plain and simple, but they suit the feel of the game perfectly.
The UI's not particularly beautiful and the combat isn't much to speak of, but the game has an absolutely wondrous sense of scale. The plain black background really feels like the vast, empty expanse of space.
There's a sort of beautiful loneliness to it.
I love the realisation. The sense of exploration is there. Navigating across galaxies and then explore them is greatly done, we feel the deep space!
On the other hand I wish this feeling was pushed in a way that you just collect scraps and build more and more stuff instead on focusing on a fighting machanic (and fuel and HP). Fighting is really hard and isn't very rewarding. I would suggest next time to have less mechanics but pushing them further! (even if I'm myself guilty of having the same tendency ^^')
Even if I give my opinion, be sure that I loved your game and the feeling I had while playing, congrats!
@squimmy Aww that's so sweet. Thanks for the review! I did plan on making things actually have realistic sizing. I even planned on having preset solar systems that would be exact to real world ones. It wouldn't have been too hard but it's something to add to the list of QoL decisions I simply didn't have time to do including refining combat and movement and making the UI look good instead of just functional. Thanks for playing!
@blint6 Your review just put a huge smile on my face :) Yeah, I had too many ideas for the player. I had so many features I wanted to add that I didn't get any QoL done. Thanks for playing!
I think this game has a brilliant idea behind it, the atmosphere around the solar systems fills me with dread and wonder. I really wanted to continue but the controls felt too sensitive and fighting was also too hard, because most of the time I'm trying to aim at a single pixel on the screen. I think this game has some major potential, it just needs a little easier fighting, more focus on exploration and better controls. In my opinion.
@fupi Thanks for the feedback :)
Cool game! Followed the development all the time =)
@tjosoft Thanks for playing my game! <3
This game is quite similar to one of the ideas that we rejected at the beginning of the weekend. (Not because it was a bad one, though.) It is very simplistic for such a grand and complicated idea. It seems that there is much that did not get finished. For example, I killed some enemies, bought some nickel at $5. I then visited several other places, but they would all only buy it for $4. It seems as though the supply/demand economy typically in this sort of game was not implemented. I had a rough time figuring out what to do at the star screen until I read some comments here.
Despite my criticism, I think it was well done given the 48 hour time frame. I have found one of the most difficult parts of Ludum Dare to be balancing what I want to do with what I can actually accomplish in the time frame. I have had some features in the past that did not get implemented as well, so I know what it's like.
Great start to a tried and true type of game with, I think, some elements that make it your own.
Neat game. Flew around aimlessly in the dark for a bit before I realized I could zoom out, but once I saw the big picture I got it.
Controls at the start are a bit hard to read, and the range / size of your items are so small in comparison to the size and speed of everything you have to interact with. The game looks really nice, and for compo I can totally understand not having time to tweak everything. I can tell a lot of work went into the game!
