LD45 — Start with nothing

Desert Flight by Tero Pulkkinen 2019-10-07T10:39:52Z

Nice little game. I like the scrolling background effect. Not a big fan of the model used for the plane but not like I could do any better so I commend you for trying where I wouldn't have. I noticed that if you go from stationary to tilting for a second, let go, then hold that directional button again, you move in that direction but the animation goes to idle. Looks like what's happening is when you let go of a movement button, you are telling the game to go back to idle but when you press a button, it needs to interrupt that animation. I didn't let this affect my vote though. Just thought you might want to know. Maybe you can go back and make changes and learn from it :) Good job on the game!

Dargontz PNCA by Lord_404 2019-10-07T02:29:23Z

Nice art. Not much innovation, but what you did, you did well. Well done!

Pen's Elope by Frank Boivin 2019-10-07T02:53:54Z

Game is broken. Nice graphics though and the audio is calming.

In the Rain by NotExplosive 2019-10-07T08:55:19Z

Nice! pretty cool little puzzle game that's visually pleasing. Feels good to play. I especially like the death sound! Good job!

Money Management Simulator by Ascension 2019-10-07T09:03:11Z

One of the best LD games i've played so far. Audio worked well together with the music. I like the art style and the overall layout (Would have preferred it if the menus had x buttons to close them as well as clicking away but nbd). I think this game is trying to tell me something... Put all your money in the bank and you will be a millionaire by the time you're 40!

Nothing by pantoufle 2019-10-07T10:33:17Z

Fun little game. Reminds me of this game where you throw ducks around to score points are get different kinds of ducks. Also reminded me of this weird browser game where you feed a woman an apple. Actually kind of fun though not terribly complex or innovative. Followed the theme well and the graphics reminded me of miniclip games. The audio was good, you didn't cram a bunch of stuff into the game to make it complex which works well in your favor. I wouldn't say it's terribly humorous but compared to a lot of the games I've played, it is. Mood... Not too sure what to say. It's plain but not in a bad way. Good job!

Homie The Homeless by KekkoDude 2019-10-07T02:41:32Z

Needs more for it to be entertaining but I can see something here. The graphics are nice and I can tell you know what you're doing. Just needs more development.

The Nothings by Stefanie Leitch 2019-10-07T03:02:16Z

Graphics worked well with the audio. Gameplay was solid. Nice storyline and dialog. Overall a good game. Only lacking in innovation.

I didn't let this sway my vote but I thought you might want to know, there's a building you can walk through from the front right hand side:

Hadron by N0ught234 2019-10-07T09:55:57Z

@tero-pulkkinen Sorry haha, I didn't put time aside to explain stuff to the player. There are two "views"

Galactic view Solar view

Galactic view is the screen where you see all the dots. You can click on each one. These dots are solar systems. If you clock "Go", you will travel to the solar system (Solar view) where you can collect resources from planets using your mining laser, kill enemies using your spacey rifle, or sell resources at the Station (the triangular object orbiting close to the sun).

When in the solar view, you can... W / S = forward / backward A / D = rotate

Shift + W / S = boost (Very important)

LMB = mining laser (Your mining laser starts out very small. I noticed that people don't notice the mining laser when they've zoomed out as you can't see or hear it so they assume LMB does nothing).

Space = shoot (Shooting is poorly made so I wouldn't recommend trying to fight enemies. It's my first try at making an AI and it actually turned out better than I expected!)

Thanks for the review! :) I had plans for a game that was too complicated for a Ludum Dare which resulted in me failing to provide a lot of features and QoL to the player... but i'm still proud of what I did get done :)

Hadron by N0ught234 2019-10-07T09:58:40Z

@lanalux Thanks for playing! I tried to make a game that was too complicated which resulted in poor QoL for the player. However, I do like the exploration side of it too. I agree, fighting was buggy as hell xD

Hadron by N0ught234 2019-10-07T09:59:35Z

@lomt1k The player spawns at a specific location, but sometimes the sun will spawn on top of the player. I didn't have time to fix it, sorry! Thanks for trying my game though!

Hadron by N0ught234 2019-10-07T10:02:12Z

@musicblox Thanks for the review! I agree. In trying to make something impressive, it resulted in me making something that is cool at first but quickly becomes bad. An example of this is the Station (shop / the triangular thing orbiting close to every sun. Fly into it) where the UI looks awful. I made the shop and upgrades system about 3 hours before submission because I spent so much time on everything else, I hadn't given the player any reason to collect resources or kill enemies! A little more feasibility knowledge and project management could have gone a long way in this game. Thanks again!

Hadron by N0ught234 2019-10-07T12:07:06Z

@hajden Thanks for playing! I had so many features to add to the game (I added the shop about 3 hours before the submission deadline) so I didn't have any time to go back and tweak things. It was too ambitious for a game jam. I can't wait to participate in another one!

Hadron by N0ught234 2019-10-07T12:07:30Z

@human-writes-code Thanks for the review!

Hadron by N0ught234 2019-10-07T12:08:11Z

@holyblackcat Yeah, two things I didn't have time to do: provide instructions to the player and time to tweak things so the game works as intended. Thanks for the feedback!

@cornettheory Thanks for the review!

Hadron by N0ught234 2019-10-07T13:42:27Z

@marcin-j The biggest problem was I tried making a game that needed more time for development. I had no time to tweak stuff like you said. Thanks for the feedback!

@twinturbodouche Thanks for the feedback!

@tadeas-paule Click on one of the dots. They are solar systems which you can visit

@trypants Thanks for playing!

Hadron by N0ught234 2019-10-07T16:40:49Z

@squimmy Aww that's so sweet. Thanks for the review! I did plan on making things actually have realistic sizing. I even planned on having preset solar systems that would be exact to real world ones. It wouldn't have been too hard but it's something to add to the list of QoL decisions I simply didn't have time to do including refining combat and movement and making the UI look good instead of just functional. Thanks for playing!

Hadron by N0ught234 2019-10-07T16:42:17Z

@blint6 Your review just put a huge smile on my face :) Yeah, I had too many ideas for the player. I had so many features I wanted to add that I didn't get any QoL done. Thanks for playing!

@fupi Thanks for the feedback :)

@tjosoft Thanks for playing my game! <3

Tactical Bodybuilding by SuperTibbles 2019-10-07T13:02:33Z

Great game! Awesome graphics and sound. Fun to tinker around with but really needs some levels or progression to push me forward and keep me playing. Very cool!

There was something here by Adrien Dittrick 2019-10-07T09:26:18Z

Longest i've played an LD game. Timing of each upgrade was actually pretty good. I found myself spam clicking to try to get the next upgrade, not noticing I've been doing that for for the past 10 minutes. Not terribly innovative but at least you followed the theme by incorporating it into a cookie clicker style game. Audio was nice as well. Well done!

Fall of Odin by thechemist 2019-10-07T01:45:40Z

Really cool idea and nice art. I like that you have to use the mouse and the fact that you need minions to survive

Oh!My God by AlerHugues 2019-10-07T10:21:14Z

I'd recommend taking the $2 fee off the Itch.io page until rating time is over. It's probably deterring people from reviewing it

Oh!My God by AlerHugues 2019-10-07T10:25:04Z

Audio was nice. Graphics were pretty. I found myself just spawning a bunch of ghosts and spamming the yarn on the door. I tried replaying a few times to see what else I can do, nothing appeared to progress my score... Nice game though

Empty Sheet of Music by MisterGC 2019-10-07T13:29:22Z

Concept was good. With a little more game development knowledge, this could be cool. Good job

Nada by croben 2019-10-07T13:06:57Z

Cool idea. Got boring after a bit but worked well!

Quest about... Nothing? by NinjaCatz 2019-10-07T13:34:19Z

Good use of the theme. Entertaining and fun. The english writing was a little off but I could still understand it. Good job

Shape Void by Jummit 2019-10-07T12:33:21Z

Cool idea. Took a while to understand what I was doing and I had to open another instance of the game in another tab to remind myself of the controls. Odd control scheme. Needed at least a help button and maybe on-screen buttons that mapped to the actions. Good job!

God Complex by Fupi 2019-10-07T13:12:22Z

Graphics were nice; Made me think of old miniclip games. Good job!

Survival Shore by radgegames 2019-10-07T18:46:58Z

I wasn't able to mine things. Maybe I couldn't tell because there appear to be no sound effects, just music. How you could improve: Try downloading a program called BFXR. It's a free sound generator that a lot of people use. To avoid that annoying bounce when the player walks into colliders, check if there's a collider next to the player. You could do this in many ways. One thought that springs to mind is: when the player collides with another, check the relative position and then disallow that motion of movement, so for example, if the collider is above the player, allow movement in all directions other that up. I don't do this style of games so that might not work but it's a thought. Good work though!

MerchantQuest by ItsBamboo 2019-10-07T18:29:24Z

It was okay. Graphics were nice and the song was okay. Nice try

Void Rabbit by JoshuaRabbit 2019-10-07T12:20:26Z

Well done! Looks like you put a lot of effort into making this game. two things I thought I should mention that maybe you could learn from:

If you walk diagonally into a diagonal collider, you can just go through it: wallclip.png

And although the colliders were set up correctly, the layering between the player and some sprites is incorrect, for example, this roof should be rendered above the player. on roof.png

Void Rabbit by JoshuaRabbit 2019-10-07T12:58:01Z

@joshuarabbit Also, in Unity, go to File > Build Settings > Player Settings > Resolution and Presentation > Supported Aspect Ratios and you can deselect all aspect ratios other than the one intended because it looks like you didn't intend for people to play in a wide view.

Objectophile by Augustus 2019-10-07T10:08:31Z

Honestly, I think the idea was the best part about this game. Everything else.. no audio, graphics were taken from Google Maps, the only graphic I think you made was the map button which was a lazily drawn "M". Maybe it's fun? I couldn't tell because I just couldn't drag myself forwards through a game I didn't want to play. Maybe it's just not my type of game. Good try though

The Mystery Box by W0lfEnstein 2019-10-07T09:46:44Z

Surprised this game hasn't gotten more attention yet. This game feels like the most polished LD game I've played so far. It is challenging but you do have all the tools you need to complete each puzzle. Personally, I found having to look at the sides of the box from an angle to actually be kinda annoying and it hurt my eyes a little but It's a stylistic choice so I didn't let it affect my score. Actually a great game that I think people would pay good money for if maybe.. I dunno.. the box expanded into other boxes or became this huge thing. It's a cool game. Kinda like "Please, Don't Touch Anything" but with more boxes.

Meager Genesis by Hajden 2019-10-07T09:18:16Z

Cool game, relaxing. Controls were nice. Visuals were pleasing. I noticed you had a parallax effect in the background but only really noticeable if you boost a lot in one direction which is a nice touch. The audio effects mix well with the background music. Perhaps some more stuff to do would be cool but great for being made in 48 hours!

SPACE by EbbDrop 2019-10-07T13:22:35Z

Very cool! I like how the game develops and gets harder. One thing is the space bar beat is a little before the actual beat (might just be a html5 thing) so it's hard to time things. Well done!

Creeping Death by SoupStoreGames 2019-10-07T09:09:33Z

Cool game. Not enough enemies (From what I played, too few at the starting area, made the game feel slow). Since the player movement is locked to a pixel grid and the camera follows it exactly, it causes the camera to feel jittery and it actually started to hurt my eyes in fullscreen.

(If you've never used Unity, try switching. Godot is cool but Unity is still better, even for beginners)

Creeping Death by SoupStoreGames 2019-10-07T10:19:06Z

@gustav-andersson Fair. I just don't recommend using Godot over Unity for many reasons. Biggest being the massive amount of support and recognition the engine gets. You want a solution? Someone probably posted about it on the unity forums. Plus, most of the best game development youtubers (Quill18) use Unity so I highly recommend Unity for that reason. But sure, use any engine you want if you feel more comfortable with it :)

Nothing by Georg Wacker 2019-10-07T12:53:27Z

Simple but effective game. Took a looong time to figure out what was happening. It was alright, not amazing, just calm. I can imagine other people really liking this game but it's not for me. Well done though!

Nothingness by Mazen Morgan 2019-10-07T13:18:02Z

Looks good and looks like it would be fun but I was really confused as to what to do. I replayed and still confused...

Monolife by SuryaPrakash 2019-10-07T09:34:25Z

Not sure if I missed something. I read the controls and everything but I wasn't able to double jump without the up-arrow collectible and without it, I couldn't get over the 3-spike jump. Anyways, nice game, personally I'd appreciate it if the game was just faster over all because it would make it harder, maybe just increase the speed over time? (You probably do and I didn't get far enough). Add some audio and you'd have yourself a nice little game here!

Monolife by SuryaPrakash 2019-10-07T09:49:39Z

@suryaprakash I think you made it in Unity? It isn't too hard to add time increases. You probably know but in case you don't, You can just increase the Time.deltaTime variable as the meter variable increases. You'd also want the collision calls to either increase or start higher than normal to ensure you don't miss any collision detection

Circle Fight by Nestral 2019-10-07T10:46:24Z

Since the enemies do not predict my movement, I can play this forever without collecting anything or upgrading. However, the game was cool. I liked the movement and the idea of the game where you reproduce is nice too. Good job!

Enlightened by Tom Adams 2019-10-07T18:38:06Z

The game is cool but boring. I don't know what else to say. Oh, and you can walk through houses if you walk at them from the side and wiggle a little.

OM The Word by Kisann 2019-10-07T12:42:55Z

Cool idea. Fun to play. Sizing controls felt too sensitive, maybe having a slider would help or something
