I liked the play on the theme [using nothing], it wasn't supper clear that the words would go physics when the game started.

I ran into quite a bit of jankiness with the jumping.

I would also suggest not using space for the edit/play swap. I ran into many problem with trying to jump and getting swapped back to edit mode.

Also ran into the space resetting when I assumed it was jump. I'd also recommend not using physics for your jump mechanic and use raycasting to detect when you're on a slope or the ground. Lots of tutorials out there about it and it dramatically improves your platforming ability. I love the theme you have going, you should add some music though to improve the mood.

Like the idea, very good with the theme! Not too polished thought, for example the character could have been animated but of course, that would take away from the theme so there is always a balance to consider.

If you don't mind, give me feedback too -)

Ha! A very nice take on the theme. As mentioned above the jump mechanic is a bit rough around the edges, but i thoroughly enjoyed your game.

cooperjknapp 2019-10-07 02:25

Haha, very creative use of the theme. Well done!

I like what you were doing with your play on the theme. Game was ok, not too special other than it's concept. You can pretty much bruteforce the levels though because you can jump up any slope that's under 90 degrees, including basically 90 degrees.

Thanks so much for all the feedback guys! It's really appreciated. It's true the jumping mechanic is not really polished at all. I had wayyy less than 48h to put on that game though... All your comments are true, animation, jump, music.

I hoped you enjoyed playing it! I already look forward to the next Ludum Dare!

very cool idea. controls are quite finicky, the game would have been more enjoyable if it was easier to know what you can do and can't... I ended up feeling like I "cheesed" the levels.

This was quite clever, and challenging! Perhaps I'm not good at it, but it took a while to get past the first level. Premise is straightforward and easy to understand, and the controls are simple too.

patvanmackelberg 2019-10-07 13:59

That is a great take on the theme. Very smooth, well put together!

this is very intense mental work ....

does this mean i am a winner?

corny 2019-10-08 18:04

Okay, this is some good mental gymnastics. I like the play on the theme - you really do start with nothing! Now you just have to make something outta nothing... I'm having a hard time here, even though it seemed so simple at first!

ds-nahogara 2019-10-11 04:38

You nailed the theme! that's a good work here, i was strongly thinking about ways to go up and finally did it!, sad that there was just two levels, but i had a blast playing this, good game!

**PLAYTEST NOTE: You can reset jumping holding jump and touching constantly a wall, so you can reach the goal easily, this looks also like a spoiler lmao, but i must help  **

levidsmith 2019-10-19 06:19

Neat idea. I liked moving the letters around a rotating them to build a staircase. I just wish I could have kept moving them around without resetting.

sheepolution 2019-10-19 11:11

Very clever! It took me a while before figuring out how to best build a path to the exit, which was quite fun to do. Well done!

wh05herlock 2019-10-19 11:54

Very cool idea. Would be nice if the controls were a bit more sensitive. Also the jumping is slightly glitchy in that you can jump off walls. Otherwise great job!

The character's very small jump made it a bit frustrating. It kinda felt like I was trying to find a way to abuse the mechanics rather than creatively problem-solve in an organic way. Small number of levels too. Interesting idea though.
