LD36 — Ancient Technology

Gravity by PorkyPine 2016-08-29T07:42:00

The atmosphere to his game is quite nice, and I like the concept. One thing I found is that if you fall for quite a while you eventually go out of view of the camera, also quite often you can't see what's directly ahead of you which feels a bit annoying, and the game play got a bit repetitive eventually, but that's to be expected for this sort of game I guess. Other than that good job :)

Gernamkei by wh05herlock 2016-09-12T05:40:00

@gonutz, I have tested the game on Ubuntu 14.04 and it works fine on there, so I'm not really sure what the problem is, sorry. Presumably you gave the game permission to be executed as a program? On Ubuntu you right click on the file (linux.x86), click properties, go to permissions, then tick "Allow executing file as a program".

Lighthouse - Illuminate to rescue! by tomdeal 2016-09-01T03:55:00

Very nice game. I like the music, graphics, and the concept. Some things I didn't like were the time limit, which is pointless as you can try again so it basically just resets all your mirror positions, and it's about trying to figure out the solution to the puzzle, as opposed to placing the mirrors within a certain amount of time. There was also a bug in the completion detection as the game wouldn't figure out when I'd completed a level (lighthouse would light up but I'd have to press n to go to the next level).

Other than that, a really good game! :)

LD38 — A Small World

Two Dot by wh05herlock 2017-04-24T01:54:56Z

Thanks! @dude-the-hero

It's a Small World, So Let's Crash It into Things by simonhutchinson 2017-05-02T11:21:57Z

This is a really cool game. I love the atmosphere you created with the sound, especially the contrast between the start and when you get close to the black star. As far as improvement goes, perhaps a leveling system would've been cool? e.g. every time you destroy the black star, when you restart the game it gets bigger.

:)

It's a Small World by NedMakesGames 2017-05-02T12:04:22Z

This is actually quite a fun game. I really like the idea, and how everything orbits around the Earth. One suggestion might be to give the character lives, so you don't immediately die whenever you hit an asteroid. This would make the game a bit more fun, as it would mean you don't have to constantly start from the start all the time. Other than that a really fun, and quite challenging, game.

Colorfly by Zelos 2017-05-02T11:36:55Z

This was actually quite fun. The atmosphere is really good, and the audio and visuals fit together nicely. I also like the way you took one concept, building tress, then utilized it in many different ways, which makes the game quite interesting. Good job :)

LD39 — Running out of Power

Electrify by PlantProgrammer 2017-08-03T07:22:37Z

This is a very interesting concept. There are a few improvements I would make, however.

- I would make a better distinction between what is an or gate and what is an and gate. - I would probably make the signal travel a bit faster, so you don't have to wait very long, and the game feels smoother. - I would make your power start running down only after you first activate one of the gates, that way you have some time to look at the puzzle before you start it. - Also more puzzles would be good of course :).

Other than that it's a really nice idea :).

Intercontinental Birdsman Competition 2018 by euske 2017-08-22T05:08:58Z

I really love this game, especially the very end.

The one thing which wasn't clear to me is what actually happens when you get hit by things (apart from you guy's face going red).

Apart from that, the ending was perfect and I really like this. :)

Energy Enigma by JCMonkey 2017-08-03T07:37:39Z

Congratulations on finishing your first ludum dare!

As I think you know already there are some glitches in terms of puzzle completion checking, which get in the way of the game.

If I was to change one thing (other than the way you check if a solution is correct), it would be to make the wire segments line up (so when you put them on the grid each wire touches the wires it's connected to).

Other than that it was a nice game, and an interesting idea :).

Power Outcold by Moaz Ashraf 2017-08-22T04:26:53Z

This is a really nice idea. There are a few improvements which could be made. Mainly:

- It would be nice to have more options for the controls e.g. up to jump, or A/D for left/right and W for jump. - The level with the spikes is really hard. - There is what I think is a glitch, which is that if you jump on a box from high up enough it falls through the ground.

Other than that I really like it, especially the graphics etc.

Well done! :)

Drone Supervisor by Jimbly 2017-08-09T06:13:08Z

This is a very fun game.

My only problem with it right now is that there is nothing to stop you from just delivering raw resources for a while, and hitting next turn without changing anything until you have tons of money and can set something more complex up.

I think it would make the game much more fun to have some sort of score, reflective of how much time you took to accomplish the goal.

It would also be nice to be able to access the crafting recipe book whilst in the game as well as from the main menu. I ended up playing with two tabs of the game open, with one just for the crafting recipes.

Other than that, it's a really fun game and one of my favourites so far :).

Starship by wesley werner 2017-08-22T07:42:54Z

This is a really cool, cute, game.

There are a few improvements I would make: - I noticed the destination of the very first mission you get always has the same name. It might be nice if it was random. - It would be cool if there was a visual indicator on your ship when your shields are up (e.g. a nice graphic of a shield surrounding you ship). - It would also be nice if you could aim your weapon, and maybe have a dotted circle or something to tell you its range so it's more obvious. - Maybe some variety in mission types would be good (e.g. maybe you have to rescue someone off of a spaceship, or destroy a ship attacking a planet. - It would also be cool if it wasn't guaranteed everyone you met was hostile, but instead you had more of an interaction with other ships (e.g. maybe you open a communication channel with them, and they demand some resources or else they attack you, idk the possibilities are endless).

Sorry, I only posted so many things because I think this game has so much potential to be really fun. :)

Cats Can Do That by crazyrems 2017-08-17T23:43:52Z

This is a really cool game!

The only thing is that it's a bit slow, and there isn't much to do while you wait to get more money so you can buy another cat.

Also it would be helpful to have an indication for how much toast each generator has without having to click on it.

Apart from that though, I really like the game. Especially the graphics and audio etc. :)

The Last Ship by brinkhousegames 2017-08-22T05:17:09Z

This is a really cool game, and I especially like the graphics.

My only improvements would be

- To make the cursor bigger, or perhaps even just go without the cursor and use keyboard controls only as the cursor really isn't needed. - Possibly make it clearer how to get points (e.g. do you have to destroy ships or survive as long as you can) - Make it a bit clearer what you should be doing with the asteroids (I think at some point I remember it saying you need to mine them. How?

Other than that it's very good, and I really like the atmosphere etc. :)

Power Hamstro: A Hamster Point and Click Adventure by defectivemelon 2017-08-22T04:58:13Z

This is an interesting start.

From what you have at the moment, my only improvements (apart from adding in the rest of the storyline etc.) would be to have some sort of instruction right at the start saying "click to move the hamster" or something.

Other than that, it'd be cool if you did some more work on this so we could see where you were going, and give more in-depth feedback :).

PS: I'll give you some points for theme as well, considering the tv had run out of power :P.

Don't Go Flat by wh05herlock 2017-08-09T07:55:37Z

@modalmodule The lasers should be visible. There should be lines appearing when you shoot them. What platform did you play the game on?

Btw, thanks for the awesome feedback everyone! :)

Don't Go Flat by wh05herlock 2017-08-28T03:19:10Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone! :)

I made a new version of the game recently trying to incorporate all the feedback I got from you.

The main change is that it has an options menu, which lets you play without the camera rotating with you when you turn.

The options menu also lets you change the difficulty by changing the amount of damage enemies do etc.

The other change is that the new version lets you restart without having to watch the animation of you exploding, because it's a bit annoying having to wait for it to finish before you can restart.

If you want to play it you can play it here: https://wh05herlock.000webhostapp.com/ld39-post/index.html.

Thanks :)

Unadexus by smbe19 2017-08-09T02:24:04Z

This is a really cool game (my favourite out of all the ones I've reviewed so far).

There a few things I'd change about it though: - It would be nice if there was music (of course). - If you put some dudes in a ship, e.g. 20, and then there becomes not enough space on the planet to hold any more dudes, but you want to put more crew on the ship, you can't backspace the 0 so you can increase the number to 25 (because you can't move 20-2=18 dudes back on the the world), making it impossible to change the number of dudes on your ship. It should be that the game doesn't check whether you can move that many of a resource until you press enter or something, so that you don't get situations like this. - The other planets seem to be REALLY small compared to Earth. Maybe make them a tiny bit bigger? Or at least provide a way to scan them so you know what you need to bring there and what you don't, that way you don't end up planning to build a metal mine there to get all your metal you'll need, but find out there is no metal to mine on the planet and end up being stuffed. - It's a bit stressful that you are already running out of power from the very start. Maybe make it so that you start with a few coal mines and a coal factory or something, so that you don't start off losing power.

Other than that it seems like a really cool (although very hard (I am yet to even get dudes living on another planet other than Earth)) game. :)

LD39:Running out of energy by johnnwfs 2017-08-05T22:08:55Z

I like where you're going with this, and I really like the audio/visual aspects (the star field moving slightly in the background as you move around feels nice).

I feel like it needs more features though, as it's quite simple and luck based at the moment.

Despite that though, it's still a fun game :).

Nightwalk by sreal 2017-08-17T23:34:16Z

I really like the graphics and the shader. The movement is a bit jerky though, and if you hold down the down key you end up falling off the map. Otherwise it's quite interesting.

Star Power by Simon Millard 2017-08-03T08:24:27Z

This is a really cool game.

There are a couple of things which I think would be nice additions.

- First I think it would be nice to see a visual indication of your current velocity (e.g. where you would end up if you didn't do anything this turn or something like that).

- It's a little bit tricky to aim the phasers, so it would be nice if they honed in on objects very slightly.

- It would be really cool if there was some sort of a deck building element to the game. Maybe your crew member's could level up which could give you the option of picking new cards to add to your deck? Idk.

Other than that, a really cool game :).

Kit Rocket by Ethan Kennerly 2017-08-09T03:24:54Z

This is actually a very fun game.

The only adjustments I would make would be to add some sound, and to zoom out the camera a bit so you can get a better feel for how far you're going (at the moment it's slightly boring waiting for it to land when it goes really far, but if you could see the ground while you were flying, and maybe there were trees or something, it would be better).

Other than that though, a really good game :).

btw: Landed in the air at 10330m.

Run, Robot, Run: The search for power by SnipZ 2017-08-09T03:34:11Z

This is an interesting game.

The only things are that the movement is a bit clunky, and it's quite easy / short.

It certainly has potential though, and if it was longer, and got progressively harder as you went on, this could be quite fun.

Well done on completing your first ludum dare! And good luck for all future ones :).

Electronaut by rhythmlynx 2017-08-22T05:30:39Z

This is a really cool concept, and the graphics and audio was very good.

I found it a little bit confusing that the batteries were at different levels in each different dimension, and why dimensions can disappear after a while, and why sometimes you can't even see where the battery is in a certain dimension.

It would probably be a bit clearer if the batteries were always in the middle of each dimension.

Other than that it's a really cool idea :).

Argon by ristoretto 2017-08-22T04:39:52Z

This is a really cool game.

The only thing I might improve would be that sometimes you get a bit stuck when trying to move alongside boxes.

Other than that it was really good :)

StarAway by frogcheese 2017-08-22T04:49:15Z

This was really fun, and I especially like the graphics.

Here are a few improvements I would make:

- It would be nice if the camera was higher up looking down more, that why the towers couldn't get in the way of your view etc. - It would also be nice if when you moved left the camera moved left with you, so that you could see where you are going better. - It would also be cool to have a difficulty scale factor, where increasing the difficulty just made everything go happen faster, so you would need faster reflexes etc.

Otherwise a pretty cool game :).

EDIT: By the way I really like the explode animation :).

SSSNAKESSS! by kevinworkman 2017-08-03T08:03:08Z

This is a really interesting idea for a change to a classic game.

If only the theme was snakes!

I really liked the way that everything was snakey, and really liked the load screen. Also the detail of your snake poking its tongue at you was nice.

It's quite satisfying when all background snakes die and you are the only one left.

It might have been cool to put a face on the snakes on the background, so it's clearer that they are snakes / what they are doing.

It might also have been cool to see what would happen if the food spawned based on time instead of spawning whenever you eat some food, as this would mean all the snakes in the background would rush to the same food you were trying to get to.

Overall I quite like it :).

Power Running? You'd Better Go Catch It! by dgollahon 2017-08-22T05:22:47Z

This is really cool. There are only two things I would change.

- Since the boxes aren't quite square, I don't think you can jump on the very edges of them. It would be a little bit more intuitive if you could. - More levels would be nice.

Other than that it was really fun. :)

Lost Light by fillefilip8 2017-08-22T05:36:47Z

I really like the lighting / visual display.

The only thing I would improve is as follows: - I think it would be better if either you could see where your mouse was, or you used the keyboard to look, because as it is it's hard to figure out how much you need to move the mouse to turn in a direction, which make the controls slightly annoying.

If this was fixed though, I think I would find the game really fun :).

Geocentric Survival by Bewelge 2017-08-03T07:53:00Z

This is a really cool idea. There are only a few things I would change to make it better (in my opinion).

- I think you need to get more energy for going around the sun, because I found that I would be losing energy at the start, when it is meant to be easy because there are no asteroids.

- I think there might be a bug, where sometimes you don't get energy for going around the sun (most specifically when you drag yourself around the sun.

- It should be a little bit clearer as to what drains your energy. Does moving drain your energy or is it just a constant thing?

- It would have been cool (no pun intended) to have a better visual indicator for whether the Earth was too hot or too cold at any given moment.

Other than that a really neat and quite difficult game. :)

LD40 — The more you have, the worse it is

The more high level the engine, the worse it gets by Ajayajayaj 2017-12-25T00:05:34Z

This is a really cool idea. It's too bad you couldn't get all the bus worked out etc.

I use unity myself, and I don't have any problems with it. I think you just have to get really used to a game engine before you try to use it in ludum dare, because learning how unity works from the start during ludum dare would be an absolute nightmare.

The Curse of Mangara by PavelDlouhy 2017-12-24T00:37:32Z

I liked the gameplay idea, and the art / music.

For me personally, there was a bit too much writing to read through compared to the amount of time you played for, but that was okay because I just skipped through most of the text.

Also it would've felt a bit more realistic if when you walked through a door, into the room, you started at the edge of the room besides a door leading back out (even if the door was locked or something).

Other than that, it was a cool entry :).

Electrical Overload by Skosnowich 2017-12-25T03:43:57Z

It looks like there are a lot of features, which is really cool. I can't figure out how any of it works without a tutorial though unfortunately :(. Maybe some more detail in the description about how to use drones etc. would have been nice.

Disintegrate by zenmumbler 2017-12-25T04:29:07Z

This is a really cool game :). It has a very myst feel to it. I would've loved if there were more puzzles!

Dungeon Chat Bot by brookzerker 2017-12-04T06:57:50Z

I haven't played it myself, but it's a really cool idea to make something which you can play in twitch chat. :)

Unfortunately the game sounds very similar to a board game called munchkin, so it would have been nice for you to come up with a more original idea for what game to make.

Dungeon Chat Bot by brookzerker 2017-12-04T08:21:57Z

@s-ed I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I actually really like the idea of this game, and think it's a really cool entry. I'm just saying I would've thought it was even more cool if the game-play was more original. :)

[Web] A Lot of Dead Space by Linver 2017-12-25T09:05:23Z

This is a very original idea which I like a lot.

The only issue I had was that it's often hard to resize / move the correct element. Some ways to fix this could be to make it so that clicking on an element selects it, and locks resizes to that element. Also you could make so that clicking in the same place multiple times scrolled through which element in that same place you were selecting.

This is a very cool and original entry. Well done! :)

you are the coin master by Sean S. LeBlanc 2017-12-04T06:50:34Z

I like this game a lot, and it's seriously impressive if you only made it in 3 hours. Well done! :)

I especially like the way the visuals get crazier the more coins you collect, and the graphics/audio fit really well into the style of game.

I got up to 97/128.

Peregrine by ARuculaDoMal 2017-12-25T04:14:56Z

I like the idea, I just found that the controls were a bit laggy (e.g. you'd let go of pressing D and then it would take about a second or two for you to stop moving right). If it wasn't for that though it would've been quite enjoyable.

You might have wanted to be a bit more explicit about mentioning that the character can double jump, as I didn't realise this for quite a while.

Asteroid gravity by Psilon 2017-12-04T08:36:23Z

I really like this game. It reminds me of a game I started to make in my spare time (but didn't finish).

It might also be fun to have a mode where there are less asteroids, but they hit harder, because as it is it's almost impossible to avoid the small asteroids.

Overall it's a really fun game, and I appreciate the use of proper space physics! :)

One Final Task by HuvaaKoodia 2017-12-24T00:13:41Z

I really love this game. It has to be my favourite so far.

Just a couple of things I might change.

I really like how you can click to skip through the messages, but it might be good if you could click to make the animations go faster as well.

It might be useful to, instead of a give up button, just make it a restart button, which is available at all times.

It would be great to have some more puzzles :).

Other than that it is a really awesome game, and probably one which could be developed into a paid for game with a lot more puzzles. You could even possibly develop the storyline in a climactic way like in portal perhaps? Idk, probably a crazy idea.

Anwyay, good job! :)

Like a Boss Rush by dcolgan 2017-12-25T04:45:33Z

This is a pretty cool idea.

I would've probably given players a list of commands, and then script in how things go wrong if the players take the wrong action at a given moment, rather than letting them guess indefinitely.

Apart from that though, I wouldn't change anything eles :). It's a really cool idea.

Stay Alive by wh05herlock 2017-12-24T00:39:42Z

@sean-s-leblanc

Yeah, after I made the game, I realised that the green colour looked way too bright and ugly on other people's computers, whereas it looks fine on my screen for some reason.

Yeah, originally I was planning on adding some code that stopped you from being able to move after you died, until I realised that it's actually kind of nice to be able to continue playing even after you've died. Unfortunately the crafting menu doesn't really work once you've died though, because the UI that tells you you died gets in the way. I should probably either fix that, or make it so that you can't move once you've died.

Stay Alive by wh05herlock 2017-12-24T21:30:45Z

@jason-kennedy You're expected to try different things and formulate your own strategy on how to survive as long as possible :P.

Stay Alive by wh05herlock 2017-12-25T04:37:22Z

@jason-kennedy Yeah it would've been nice to add in a tutorial to it. I ran out of time as it was though (sorry).

Strategy SPOILER:

A strategy I use is to run until I find some rocks, then pick up enough sticks and grass to make a bow, or a crossbow, and make some arrows, and then fend off any attacks whilst looking for more rocks to make more arrows for when I run out.

What you shouldn't do is just pick up everything, because then you'll just get swarmed with monsters, because as mentioned in the description, the more items you have on you, the more things which spawn around you.

My highest score was 542 steps, 83 enemies killed, using a similar strategy as above.

EDIT: I just made it to 790, 227 with this strategy.

Stay Alive by wh05herlock 2017-12-27T01:30:15Z

Hey everyone, in case you are interested I just a made a post ludum dare version. Not much has changed in the post version yet, but I've update the description with details about it.

Stay Alive by wh05herlock 2017-12-27T02:17:32Z

@sean-s-leblanc I made a post-ld version which (hopefully) fixes the colour issues, as well as some other stuff.

Money Laundering Simulator by candlesan 2017-12-04T07:43:14Z

Nice game! I like the idea a lot :). I'm not sure what I'd improve to be honest. Maybe add some background music?

slashdown by maysick 2017-12-27T05:05:46Z

Really cool idea!

It is possible that the mouse controls would be more intuitive if the screen scrolled with the player. On the other hand, this way you can always see the whole ring, and I didn't have to much trouble with it, so it's probably fine how it is. It's something you could experiment with though. :)

Good As Gold by ProdigalSon 2017-12-24T00:28:40Z

Pretty cool idea,

At first I didn't realise that you didn't want to collect the coins, but I soon figured it out.

It's a little bit fiddly to get the statues onto the pressure plates, and I would've liked if this feature had been expanded on a bit more, e.g. you had to push the statue whilst dodging coins or something. Idk.

Other than that, it's a cool game :).

Greedy Leprechaun! [HTML5 Demo Link] by David Greene 2017-12-25T00:17:47Z

This is a pretty cool game :). I'd probably make it a bit harder though, because even if the cloud started tipping quite a lot, I could always just move back to the centre to restabilize everything. Maybe make the equilibrium a bit less stable?

Robot Runaway by Benjamin Bos 2017-12-23T23:48:57Z

I really like the animations and art.

One thing I noticed is that if you are moving diagonally, the animation that plays depends on whether you first pressed the button to move horizontally, or vertically. It might be a bit better if that was more consistent.

Other that, what you had so far looks great, and it would've been cool to see what else you did with it :).

APOLLO v-1.0 by grey 2017-12-25T09:44:16Z

This is a really neat game :). I think the trick is to only tap the controls.

Power Play by lawzy93 2017-12-04T07:18:31Z

This looks really cool, and I like the idea. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much you can do at the moment :(.

Would be cool if you added a lot more things you can do and then submitted a post ludum-dare version so we could try the game with more features. :)

Power Play by lawzy93 2017-12-04T08:23:52Z

@lawzy93 I look forward to it :)

Idle Icon by Jare 2017-12-23T23:46:15Z

Neat idea with having more items making it harder to figure out which one to use.

My only problem is that I'm not really sure why you need to click on an item, because it doesn't seem to make much difference whether you click an item or not. Also often clicking the correct item doesn't do anything.

I would have liked to see what it would've looked like if you could've had more time to work on it :).

Cat Saviour: The Rain Is Coming by Pavel Smejkal 2017-12-25T04:02:54Z

This is a truly amazing game. Thank you so much for making it. It is my definite favourite so far.

I really like how you didn't need a tutorial, since the player just learns as they go along.

The only thing I would change would be to change the keyboard bindings. It is a bit weird to have to use A, D, up, and down. I would've made the controls WASD or up/left/down/right, whichever the user preferred (e.g. both up and W would pick up a cat).

Overall an awesome game :).

LD43 — Sacrifices must be made

Forest of Worship by wh05herlock 2018-12-05T02:08:27Z

@jimbly Yeah you're right, an end condition would have been a good idea. Perhaps I should have made the farms produce less food so that food keeps being an issue?

Eventually I want to make a post ludum dare version of the game with way more features in it :).

LD45 — Start with nothing

This is a really cool story. Would be great to have an easier to read font, but otherwise good job! :)

Nice game! I really liked the graphics and sound effects, and how polished everything seems. Great job :).

I really like the scene change animation. My main advice would be to make the game a bit harder :).

This is a really cute game! Would be nice if the selection area was a bit more consistent, but otherwise great job!

Exit Nothing by Brice Mahier 2019-10-19T11:54:21Z

Very cool idea. Would be nice if the controls were a bit more sensitive. Also the jumping is slightly glitchy in that you can jump off walls. Otherwise great job!

Very cool and funny! The very start does seem slightly random, but I like where it goes from there.
