Maybe it's a little raw and probably could need some polishing, but I like how many different features you managed to implement in so limited time. Also, +1 for making a turn based game!

Nice job.

Fantastic idea! I dies because I had no clue I needed arrows :(

Nice job getting a full crafting system working, but the graphics in this could use some work. In particular, one issue which could be fixed without spending too much time is colour: I'd recommend going with a palette that has a bit more harmony in the future to avoid having such a harsh contrast on your tiles/assets.

One kinda funny bug I noticed was that the player is able to continue playing after "dying". That could actually be an interesting way of giving them the freedom to experiment with mechanics, but given that this is a survival game, I'm guessing that wasn't intentional, haha!

@sean-s-leblanc

Yeah, after I made the game, I realised that the green colour looked way too bright and ugly on other people's computers, whereas it looks fine on my screen for some reason.

Yeah, originally I was planning on adding some code that stopped you from being able to move after you died, until I realised that it's actually kind of nice to be able to continue playing even after you've died. Unfortunately the crafting menu doesn't really work once you've died though, because the UI that tells you you died gets in the way. I should probably either fix that, or make it so that you can't move once you've died.

I beat them with my stick of POWER!!! Lol, I had the most fun after I died and the game let me roam around infinitely killing all of the enemies. I was immortal and unstoppable...I have the poweeeer! :D

adroitconceptions 2017-12-24 19:41

not sure if you are expected to use sticks at first for combat or run away until you can find enough rocks to make some weapons.

wh05herlock 2017-12-24 21:30

@jason-kennedy You're expected to try different things and formulate your own strategy on how to survive as long as possible :P.

adroitconceptions 2017-12-25 01:53

3-4 attempts and couldn't figure out anything that would let you stay alive for very long. So goes back to my question. perhaps some tutorial or something would be helpful. it wasn't even clear that the red icons were enemies that attacked you... until it was clear that they were moving toward you.

wh05herlock 2017-12-25 04:37

@jason-kennedy Yeah it would've been nice to add in a tutorial to it. I ran out of time as it was though (sorry).

Strategy SPOILER:

A strategy I use is to run until I find some rocks, then pick up enough sticks and grass to make a bow, or a crossbow, and make some arrows, and then fend off any attacks whilst looking for more rocks to make more arrows for when I run out.

What you shouldn't do is just pick up everything, because then you'll just get swarmed with monsters, because as mentioned in the description, the more items you have on you, the more things which spawn around you.

My highest score was 542 steps, 83 enemies killed, using a similar strategy as above.

EDIT: I just made it to 790, 227 with this strategy.

Nice Game! You obviously worked really hard on this and really great job. When I started playing I was a little lost so I died very quickly the first time and again the second time :D Then I realized something must be wrong so I read the instructions carefully this time and now I could finally play :D

Very good work and a lot of things you did there in so little time. Congratulation!

Nice Game :)

wh05herlock 2017-12-27 01:30

Hey everyone, in case you are interested I just a made a post ludum dare version. Not much has changed in the post version yet, but I've update the description with details about it.

wh05herlock 2017-12-27 02:17

@sean-s-leblanc I made a post-ld version which (hopefully) fixes the colour issues, as well as some other stuff.

The game lacks a Potion to restore your health, that would balance the game play a bit, other than that, it's a nice idea to make a turn-based game :)
