This is honestly one of the coolest games I've played in a bit. Amazing work! I can't believe I had to work so hard to have nothing

alex-lutay 2019-10-07 00:50

@travis-carlen hey there, don't lose heart - to create any game in jam is fun in itself and the next time it'll be even more fun, because, I'm sure, you've learned so much. And thank you for your kind words!

Nice! Great stuff! <3

musicblox 2019-10-07 01:04

I love the style you gave to this game. Its a lot of work trying to clear out the place, and I guess you start with nothing in the sense that you are trying to make nothing happen and there is first everything. Great job with this game.

alex-lutay 2019-10-07 01:04

@trypants thank you! :flushed:

travis-carlen 2019-10-07 01:04

@alex-lutay Oops sorry, I was making a joke about how long I played your game in order to achieve having nothing

alex-lutay 2019-10-07 01:14

@musicblox great analysis, thank you. Actually, at first I thought that it might be an interesting point for a player to represent "nothing" in the game. Something like "The Nothing" in the neverending story.

alex-lutay 2019-10-07 01:16

@travis-carlen whoopsies, my brain's a little bit melted after compo, sorry!

Really nice! At first I played randomly and couldn't win, then I read the instructions and figured out a strategy. Great art and animations. The only issue is that the tile highlight covers the number.

alex-lutay 2019-10-07 01:31

@zuf yeah, that's one of those bugs that just fly over your head and can be easily fixed, if only I've noticed it on time. Thank you very much

This is incredibly well done. It took me a second to grasp the mechanic, but I love how well the destruction is implemented. It really feels reminiscent of Minesweeper and a strategy game a la Fire Emblem in terms of style which scores extra points with me haha.

You should be proud of this, excellent work!

alex-lutay 2019-10-07 01:57

@arielle-stroman oh, I'm flattered and happy to know that you've liked the game, I've put a lot of effort in it in hope that it'll be fun to play.

Actually, to be compared with one of the GOAT games is the highest praise for me, and I'm not talking about Minesweeper (sorry, flag-sticking fans).

This really means a lot for me, Arielle, thank you!

Playing as a mysterious void of nothingness is a pretty cool idea for a game.

The system with the men building houses and everything is really neat, but your ability to interact with it is kind of limited. It feels like there's a lot of untapped untapped potential.

It's a little annoying that you can end up in a losing position long before you actually lose the game, and on your first playthrough it won't be obvious that you've basically already lost... Perhaps an alternate lose-condition (e.g. once they build 15 castles) would help with this?

Either way, the visuals are lovely. The camera shake when you destroy things is a nice touch, too :)

alex-lutay 2019-10-08 01:04

@squimmy yeah, I had to scrap a lot of ideas to finish it on time, so I had to go with the simplest solution - just counting tile.

Many thanks for your ideas and kind words, I appreciate it :fist:

It's great. Beautiful and very polished. One little thing is that I find the sprites lack a bit of clarity : you don't get a clear idea of what's going on on the board at first glance (if you see what I mean).

Wow, I had a lot of trouble trying to win the first few games. The damned things just kept overrunning the map! Kept restarting, and slowly figured out the tactical use of the vision and explosion orb. I'm not sure what freeing(dispelling?) the Nixyon did exacly?

Anyways, this kept me playing for a long time. Awesome use of the theme. The mechanics were..intriguing and fun, alteast once you spend a bit of time to understand them. And as expected, the graphics are excellent, I've been a fan of your style of pixel art ever since...well not that long, about 2 LDs ago when I played Space Scrap.

Minimum amount of clicks I could win in was 63. Awesome entry.

Pretty good game, just lacks of indications and sound design, but the graphics are really great! Good job!
