I LOVE the art style! Nice little game! I hope you expand it after the jam!
I don't see a lot of games with tutorials for a jam. That's great that you did a kind of one ^^ The art style is beautiful, and same as up comment, I hope you'll carry it on later, it has some nice potential, clearly ! :)
What a fun decision game :D I just had the issue that on german keyboards the Z-Key is the Equivalent to the Y-Key. So pressing Yes in your game means pressing Zes in Germany xD
Nice looking graphics and fun dialog! But I did not manage to complete the game, got stuck with only the bandit camp as an option that did anything, and it seemed like there was an infinite number of bandits. The battling was fun at first, but got very repetitive.
I wasn't able to play, unfortunatelly! I downloaded it on windows but all i got was a black screen with sound effects :\
Thank you all for your kind reviews! @rillep about that issue, I'm afraid I made it a bit confusing. There's an infinite number of enemies you can farm, but after killing 10 of them, the next area is unlocked. You have to stop fighting and get back to the map in order to continue. Sorry about that, it was easy to miss.
Just a little tip: text can be skipped with RMB, which comes handy when fighting for long :)
That was a cute story with a cute look. The map + Y/N mechanics worked well. I liked the humor that was worked in. I completed one tragic ending.
I found that while I really liked the fight sequences (both the sound and text), I didn't like having to repeat it so many times.
Also, it would have been nice to resize the window.
Really loved the art! Great game!
I liked the hand drawn style graphic :D
Graphics are unique, story is well-made and mechanics are simple. Great job!
Ever since I played doodle jump, I've loved hand drawn art like this. You did a fantastic job. I got my sword and just slayed the bandit leader cheers
Interesting take on the theme. I got into the game pretty quickly and the battle texts are amazing. The grinding got repetitive though so you could lower the costs of the items or make the enemies drop more gold.
Very cute! I like the hand drawn style on graph paper, it made me imagine a bored kid at school drawing out maps and telling themselves stories to pass the time. The story has some fun twists and I liked the silly battle quips, though fighting 10 bandits was a lot. I'm glad I saw the tip about using RMB to skip text in the comments. :)
really enjoyed this, and especially loved the hand drawn art. didn't stick around to earn enough to buy the ring! The fight statuses made me chuckle
It was a nice story. I managed to reach an ending, though it looks like there might have been multiple which is cool. Fighting enemies felt like a grind but overall it was enjoyable.
Not able to play on win10. Just a black box when started Epic story of a nobody.png
Hi everyone, thanks for the precious feedback and reviews. About the black window issue @notime4games and @phillserrazina are experiencing, I'm afraid the framework I chose is causing this with some specific instances. It uses SDL2 under the hood and after doing some research, it looks like a bug affecting some specific drivers and the openGL implementation used, so other than switching engines next time, I'm afraid there's not much I can do. I'm so sorry for the inconvenience.
The graphics are original!
Nice game! I wish the pacing was a bit swifter as grinding bandits wasn't particularly fun.
Definitely an interesting story, would love a bigger game in the future
Except from the fights which got a bit tedious to the end, the game was an overall funny and enjoyable narrative experience. Thank you!
Really pretty art style, cool mechanics though the fighting got boring pretty quick. Did like the SFX though, really added something to the game.
I got the black screen bug as well D: Shame. If you ever manage to fix it, let me know. I will be waiting to play your game :D
Hi everybody! I think I may have solved the black screen issue @notime4games @phillserrazina and @hcursino were having. I just ported the game to an older engine using an ancient SDL version which should work on any card. The downside is that this build is lacking some nice features like font antialiasing and alpha transparency for the sprites. Not a big loss when a game has just two of them.
The build is labelled as "Epic Nobody - win10 (just for blackscreen cards issues)" on the itch downloads section. Everybody should play the original upload, this one is just for those who can't run the original build. Hope you guys can now try the game, or else, I'll owe you a working one next time!
I think fixing crashes is allowed, but if this goes against the rules I'll just delete it.
@the-osk , the new file worked fine. Thank you for that, the game was totally worth it. Nice story, cool mechanics, pleasing artwork. I would say it could use some gentle background music, but for a 48 hours work this is a piece of art. Good job.
This remind me the book who you're the hero, i like the drawed graphics, navigate on a map is also good idea. Maybe can you put a short cut to accelerate the drawing of text, and an epic music to ameliorate the mood and immersion ! Good job !
I liked the art style very much. If there would have been more screens like the bandit vs trader, it would have been even better.
The dialogs and the fighting was also pretty funny. The fighting got a little repetitive but for the length of the game it was still bearable.
I definitely enjoyed playing! Good job
Not bad, although the fighting was a bit repetitive.
I love decision games and the graphics were on point! Not that you didn't know it already, it's great :)
@the-osk Hey now it works better!
Well done!
The art is refreshingly nice and the sfx adds to the experience. I was curious to see how the story would progress but the game seems to crash when fighting sometimes so I only ever got to bandit#5(game just closes down suddenly during fights). Managed to get the sword if I let the merchant die in the beginning, but he didn't seem very nice anyway sooo
Overall a nice game that had me asking for more! Good job!
While the text-adventure mixed up with hand drawn gaphics are really something innovative as far as what i saw in the jam, the type of the game is not really my thing. It is to note however that the mechanics are easy to understand. Good job!
This is very charming, well done!
Lovely graphics, I really like them being hand drawn. It got a bit repetitive and frustrating on the bandits parts, as I just had to keep doing the same thing over and over again, and the bandits seemed to give less gold every time i defeated them. Also it was kinda awkward I had no control during the fights so it was just a long sequence of randomness without any of my input. The dialog and stuff was really funny, so were the sound effects. Overall, an enjoyable experience :)
I gave up on grinding the bandits, which is pretty early in but I kept losing for a while and didn't want to do that anymore. Other than that though, this was a pretty solid entry. Sound FX was great, although a little bit too loud and I absolutely LOVED the artstyle. Truly amazing. Sometimes the text was hard to read, maybe a fading background for the large text passages could help.
Lovely little text adventure game. I spared the merchant (and wish I hadn't  ). There was a few instances where the text would go too fast and it'd progress to the next scene without my input, but other than that it was enjoyable and charming. I think RNG favored me on the bosses as most of them would go down pretty quickly compared to their underlings. Also, I got the ending where I married the inn keeper. :smirk:
That was a really really funny game, loved the humour S2
Things I didn't like: * The narrative at the beginning, together with the messages when you kill 10 enemies, appeared and disappeared too fast, I wasn't able to read it entirely =( * There were paths that I couldn't escape, like fighting the bandits at the bandit camp. If I refused to fight, there were nothing to do. * I entered the jewel shop and said I wasn't happy for not helping the merchant. Later, I reentered there to see if something had changed, and this time I said I was happy, just to see what would happen. The game crashed hahaha, I'm sadder now for not helping him =(. * The battles felt like a grind. I won a lot of money but there were nothing to buy, I didn't have a goal to fight.
Things I liked: * Nice art, it gives the game an unique personality. * It was very funny!
Great game! The artstyle is very unique :) Some choices are great (like, should you save the merchant?) but sometimes, I don't get any choice (and I am forced to fight the bandits, for instance) which is not very enjoyable. But overall a really nice game, congrats! :D
That was so cool ^_^ Atmosphere is great and it's very fun! Very happy to be happily married /o/
