Your art style is nice, but your sound effect for jumping is a little loud especially when compared to the sound effect for shooting which was so quite I didn't realize it was playing at first. I do appreciate you having remappable controls although I did find the text telling me to pick a button a little hard to read. All in all a pretty enjoyable game.
Very fun concept! Extremely difficult. haha :)
I had trouble figuring out the controls. What was working for me was Q to move left, W to move right, and like m to shoot / jump. Once I figured that out it was playable. The jump and shooting on the same key made it very difficult to time shots and make platforms. Nice job overall, its tough making a game in 48 hours.
@diaonic You enter the controls yourself on the opening screen. You must have entered them by accident without realizing. I probably could have made it clearer.
Wow, really cool, especially how you let people map their own keys. The squids fading in remind me of that ghostly squid in super metroid. Great job.
This shooting game feels very nice to play! Good job!
Really fun take on the space invaders formula :) The left-hand enemies caused me so much trouble though, always destroying my ground :/
Love the urgency you created to kill the enemies as fast as possible. I would just love to have the chance to take a screenshot of how far I got so I can brag xD. Great job!
I'd make the control setting page a bit more clear. The gameplay was stellar though, and the fact that the player gets to set the controls at all is fantastic! Wonderfully done!
I like the idea of the game, it's pretty interesting and well made. However it would have been better if enemies can be killed with 1 hit and move sometimes.
Digging the art style. And the platforming part keeps me on my toes. Feels a little like the floating log part of frogger mixed with space invaders. Could use a little more polish. And I wasn't exactly sure how the gameplay ties in with the "start with nothing" prompt.
woo! Got to wave 8 or so. I actually really don't like Space Invaders but this was infinitely better. You really had to be careful with your positioning. Basically any time I saw fire shot down I'd first make sure I was safe, but then also quickly access if the blocks around me will blow up and make me fall to my death. It was a constant calculation of safety and that extra layer just made the core loop so much more engaging. Fun game overall, I'm surprised that small iteration made so much impact. What's the inspiration behind space squid though? lol
@peachtreeoath I tried making a game where you play as a fish in the sea on Saturday, it didn't work out so I restarted on Sunday. I was low on time, liked the squid graphic, it worked for the topdown shooter perspective and I've heard people call squids "alien like" so I figured I'd reuse. Happy with the results.
Haha, nice improv there then!
Nicely made game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 45 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/Bucux0B4E5k
the art for the squids and the robot are intresting, something very different, wish the squids had some animation to them ... a screenshake here and there would also not be bad perhaps
Very well polished entry ... liking the black and white ... the difficulty varies a lot ... related to the actual positions of the 1st wave  Although in general the difficulty seems too steep to start out.. Controls play really well and movement seems smooth :thumbsup_tone1: congrats on the entry
:purple_heart: :dart: :frog:
edit: unsure how ... Start with Nothing comes into play
I love the wheels of the character, their animation is just so cute
Thanks for submitting your game for me to play on my livestream!
