LD45 — Start with nothing

Untitled Sandbox Game Where You Throw Sticks by niborious 2019-10-16T05:09:58Z

This game is adorable!!! Your JS never disappoints :D The animations are quirky and expressive and the variation in biomes is super cool. I could definitely see some vague Cube World influences.

For others that can't run the game and see just a black screen, try switching browsers. I couldn't run it on Chrome, but Firefox did the trick.

Bone Rush by beardywombat 2019-10-10T06:38:17Z

First, a few minor picks:

* I wasn't quite sure if the bones I picked up were better than what I already had - I was afraid of leaving behind my old gear since I didn't know what, say, a Gnome Leg did differently than my Human Leg. * I also noticed a distinction between Strength and Magic stats that I got a bit confused about, but conveying information like that can be understandably cut for a game jam game. * The map nodes became blocked by the red X after clearing them and made them a bit harder to read * It was also a bit unclear to see which map nodes were reachable from other nodes at a glance * I wish it had audio :(

Next, good stuff. Oh I had fun with this one. I immediately recognized similarities with the Slay The Spire but that's a very good thing - it plays really well!! The flavor text and card varieties add a LOT to the game, they informed a lot of my choices (Elf = bad). It looks very charming as well, I like how other skeletons are combined in lots of silly ways. The backdrop and maps look very nice too!! I just beat it with Centaur Legs, an Orc Magi (I think?) chest, and a Champion's Skull. Just the fact that it's beatable is a really great achievement for this game jam! Good job

This is really nice! It took me until level 7 for me to say "OH I GET IT!" Animations and music are adorable, the puzzles are pretty well thought-out, and the concept of starting to build your own set of controls per level is really unique! Good job :D

We Are The N-O-T-H-I-N-G by paulhocker 2019-10-10T04:31:32Z

I adored the camerawork and art style - the animation of the globes is a great touch! I'm not sure if shooting is implemented yet since nothing really reacted to my shots, but this is an excellent start :D

You Gotta Buy Everything by MiltonNH25 2019-10-16T05:59:58Z

I played this longer than I should have.....

I really liked this one - there's a lot of juice here that just makes it feel good to play. I loved the DLC-Quest-meets-clicker-games design, I think it fits the theme very well. It was really satisfying to reach endgame, toss out a maxed out grenade, and just absorb money. And the sound effects and music were hilarious!

Neon Void by egawag 2019-10-10T05:52:43Z

LOVED this one!! The art was simple but extremely effective. The dynamic music worked fantastically with the increasing set of skills you acquire, and it fit the theme of starting from nothing very well. I thought the controls were a little funky at first (spacebar+mouse combo being used in all the abilities), I think focusing on the mouse for all basic actions instead of the spacebar could help make the game feel more "familiar" - selecting abilities with the wheel and activating them with the main mouse button, or making each ability cast instantly on pressing a number key, for instance. Minor gripes aside, this is definitely one of my favorites!

I like the procedural music a lot! The intro of the game was really neat as well!

I was a little confused as to which mechanics were added and when. Movement in general is very slippery and doesn't give the player much information - or at least, *consistent* information. For me, the rules of the game changed so often that it was hard for me to reliably or confidently make some of those tough jumps in the later sections because I wasn't used to that part of the game with, say, reduced gravity.

The items, that change everything by Dock Frankenstein 2019-10-16T06:16:35Z

Gameplay wise, I don't have much else to add from what others have said. The music was relaxing though, and I enjoyed the pixel art! The ending quote was nice too!

Crypt Hero by belug23 2019-10-10T04:43:08Z

Very robust game!! I've never played a traditional text-based roguelike before so the controls were a little obtuse at first, but I ended up getting around it (found out by chance that ESC exits out of "look around" mode... i was wondering why my screen wasn't moving ) None of the goblins ever seemed to do any damage to me, my HP was always maxed out - I also thought that my HP was increasing a little too fast... it was multiplying by 2 each time until I had over 132,000 HP?!

That aside, I agree with NickNameless above - the game is very functional and the intro was a nice touch! Good jam!!

Refuge by LadyPossum 2019-10-10T06:56:40Z

Awww that was cute!! I like the visuals, the stylized characters and maps make the world very unique. The music was very peaceful, if not a bit plain. And you have a story!! A lot of game jam games would cut that, so nice job!

I wasn't too sure of the controls, I had to experiment a bit before I realized I could click stuff on screen. The items that you had to pick up blended in a little too smoothly with the background so it took a while for me to get them.

Memories of Eleph by Leandroc 2019-10-16T06:23:35Z

Short but so sweet! Everything pairs together incredibly well here - the art, the sound, the writing.... All of it is polished to a shine! How could such a cute elephant make me so sad :(
