LD38 — A Small World

Finding your loved one by Laaph 2017-05-18T03:24:01Z

I really enjoyed the setting of the game with the combination of the watercolors and music, really felt like a fairy tale book. I Loved the idea of the second stage where you run through obstacles then just get huge and smash it all down, although felt embarrassing to immediately fall off a few seconds later (a good thing!). There were some issues which others have stated already, but other than that, was still pretty enjoyable. Good work!

Ellipticats by Hotchmoney 2017-05-17T09:22:10Z

I thought that was pretty fun. Already from the starting screen I was already pumped up to play, so the fast action really helped keep that adrenaline going. Was a little disappointed nothing happened when I got all the cats, but hey, it's a game about cats in space, all the happiness is already there. Good work!

Rocket Me Out Of Here! by Niten 2017-05-17T08:51:42Z

Congratulations on your first Jam! I thought it was pretty fun to play. Real nice environment and the music was pretty peaceful; although, was a little confused in what the crystals were for at first. I did have fun though breaking the barrels/boxes and jumping off. Good work!

"Comme le monde est petit ! " Smalltalk Supermarket by dray 2017-05-17T08:37:20Z

This whole idea is pretty hilarious to me. It was already making me smile from the concept but I definitely enjoyed the whole idea of dodging/ending up in long conversations with people. Part of me really wanted/tried to read the conversations, but just felt so much in a rush that I had to try my best to skip. Plus, the simple/cute visuals were a good way to make something that can be incredibly stressful more fun.

Sadly, I was getting bad motion sickness very early in the game and couldn't play more than 10 minutes. I imagine it has to do with the speeds of easing in and out when the cart turns, which only gets amplified if you start turning your head while it's still moving.

In the end though, I think the game really captures a moment of rushing that everyone can relate to and was fun to see.

Yourselves by Kloki 2017-05-17T09:46:16Z

I really enjoy the idea you have. Thought it was funny that the main thing that can drive you crazy in this game is yourself for making horrible decisions that ruin everything. I do wish it was possible to have the characters constantly repeat their run instead of a one time go, but I imagine that would change the game quite a bit. Everything else though, the visuals, sound effects, and the game play was real fun.

Yume Trip by Mend 2017-05-18T03:42:21Z

I thought the visuals and sounds were pretty impressive. Was calming where it needed to be, but more intense where things were...well more intense. I do wish that the character could move a bit more faster. Since I really just used my left hand for the actions, it put a bit of a strain to keep running across the top/bottom stages. Other than that, pretty solid work, good job!

Hmmm not sure if this is replying to you @ghostandshell. Thanks! And I'm not familiar with that website, but I'll take a look!

LD39 — Running out of Power

BLACKOUT by Cambryx 2017-08-02T09:35:33Z

I thought the game was very well done. Feels like there's a lot compacted in there even though the game was made in such a short time. Had nice visuals, smooth game play, and nice tunes to listen to. My only feedback is probably mostly personal, where it would be nice to run into more zombies and that I'm also not a fan of the trial and error type of parts since it requires dying first to figure it out. I guess a timer would also be useful since the game just suddenly ends. Real good job though!

PowerCubeStationBox™ by NueboMundo 2017-08-03T06:50:13Z

This idea really is incredible. Went from "Oh old retro themed game" to "Omg it's from another dimension." I had a huge blast playing it, and only got more and more excited to see how each unused contraption was going to be used. The idea of the game is seriously thinking outside the box (I'm not sure if I intend for a pun here or not, I'm sorry.) I guess the only criticisms I can make is about the difficulty and the 8 bit sounds sounding a little random with how they're used, but that feels more like nitpicking. Very well done! (Also, thanks for the confetti)

Five swords to Hell by Javier Diez 2017-08-02T09:22:36Z

The sudden dialogue change from saying they're a murderer to swearing and taunting was pretty hilarious to read. The overall atmosphere/visuals were Very well done. I do kinda wish there was a better way to see the causes of your actions; like for example, I didn't understand that the swords I couldn't click on or the ones that were getting in my way were the ones I clicked on earlier. It took a few times to understand that, but at the same time, the game is really short so that isn't much of a bad thing. Good work!

Mayor on a Roll by maniacanshul 2017-08-02T08:46:35Z

This game was already putting such a huge smile on my face from the description, so to play it and have it give me even More of a smile was just so delightful. Was a little slow to learn how to play at first (I didn't realize there was a button guide at the start), but after that it was just incredibly fun to play. The most fun I had was simply turning around and seeing the giant army trying to kill you. Good work!

ROOP: The Ship in Danger by tomasara413 2017-08-02T08:34:55Z

I love the use of the theme and the visuals. The game very much feels like a horror game, which works real well to go with the whole idea of "running out of everything, better quickly get out of here before I panic."

The main issue I'm having though is that I just can't seem to be able to complete the game. If you happen to close a door behind you before the power goes out, it doesn't seem possible to open them again without restarting. I'm also still confused in how the doors in the room with the crowbar tend to open, it feels random if it works or not. After that, I seem to get stuck after repairing the generator since I can't open anymore doors.

I think if the game had some sort of cue to tell you can or can not do something, or if you are even doing something at all, would go a Long way. Good work though!

Our Stories by ciderWrath 2017-08-02T08:51:14Z

@tomasara413 Yeah, sadly, not having a drawing for every situation was a real disappointment for me, but I will get around to fully finishing the game, so thank you very much for the feedback!

@shinmera Heh yeah, I kinda jumped straight into the dialogue and just quickly went onto the next topic without doing any proofreading, thanks for not going into detail about that! :D And also thanks for your feedback!

Robo Nanny by kalyrical 2017-08-02T09:55:18Z

I thought that was pretty cute and fun to play. I was a little confused at first since it looked like I was placing green bars on the floor (Didn't realize it was a countdown) and that it's not just a race against time to do everything before the baby wakes up (you just have to also take care of the baby too), but after that I really enjoyed it. If you ever continue to work on this, please put in those sweet sweet seconds of enjoying everything clean and the baby still sleeping before chaos breaks.

After the Crash by Nalozyc Shade 2017-08-03T02:32:43Z

As others have said, this was really different and interesting to play. I personally enjoyed the sudden change to getting hit by the truck and all of a sudden trying to survive, and I liked the idea of the driver replaying the situation in their head over and over, but it did feel a little repetitive as the game went on. Not to sound too harsh here too, but I did find it a little odd with their reaction to Breanna. It was pretty quick to go from "Oh no!" to "It's okay, I'm fine, I'll drive now." It's completely understandable though since time was short to make the game. In the end, the game was really unique.

Shipyard power struggle by Norticks 2017-08-03T02:10:46Z

Not bad, and congrats on your first LD!

Alright so, I've always been a fan of rts so I might be a little biased. I thought it was fun to play, but it felt a little too slow (takes too long for enemies to come in, only one wave of enemies come at a time instead of multiple). Enemy units on the mini map are also a little hard to see with the dark red on black background. I guess I also would of preferred if it was zoomed out a bit, but that might be personal preference.

I did like the concept of it though since it was fun to control the ships and have them mow down the pirates, and still pretty solid for making in such a small time. Good work!

Randomly Relentless Rumble by Frederika 2017-12-14T07:12:03Z

I thought it was fun to play. Loved the idea that the weapons change randomly, and thought it was hilarious how the bottle simply broke and the bow and arrow was useless after the arrow was fired.

If I was to make any suggestions I would say I wish was More random. The sword and saber are pretty similar to one another, and the game play is mostly just melee until you get a gun and shoot everything that moves. Recharging the bow or bottle after rotation could probably expand the game play a bit, or throwing the neck of the bottle after the rest of it has shattered off would be pretty different too.

In the end though, still had fun!

[Web] A Lot of Dead Space by Linver 2017-12-16T03:09:47Z

alotofdeadspace.jpg

My final picture in the end! I had a huge amount of fun playing this game. The graphics are just amazing and I loved the humor as it kept going. The chaos and the clutter worked incredibly well with the theme and overall the game is very well done.

One issue I had with the game involved the first character that needed to be placed onto the screen. There was a time when I accidentally lost him, but I couldn't place him back on nor was it necessary. I guess that isn't so much of a big deal, but there were a lot of moments where I was able to remove some things and completely cover other objects, which kind of took away from the game. For example, my red present is currently behind the 120% off button, and I'm sure I might of also removed some things that weren't supposed to be removed at that point (not the ones I had to deliberately remove that is). Anyway, not too much of a big deal since it actually made the game easier for me, but I also felt like "Aww, it's not as chaotic as it probably should be."

Weird topic to mention, but another issue I had also came with the boobies. Their resizing box takes up a huge amount of space compared to their actual size, which also made them incredibly difficult to find when I accidentally dropped them onto the screen. Like, I see them radiating right in the middle of the screen! But it took so long for me to finally figure out which handle belonged to them. That's also when I realized that the resizing windows could probably use a little change to help differentiate between understanding which box belongs to which project. I'm not exactly sure what the solution would be for something like that, maybe something like making them disappear when not in use or having some way to lock the objects in place, but I feel like it's worth mentioning.

Other than those issues, this game was really incredible and a huge blast to play. Awesome job!

Secret of Poop by Phaix 2017-12-12T11:36:21Z

I can't wait for the eventual sequel, "Legend of Poop", with its amazing art and focus on making your own world of poop.

The game definitely made me laugh and has an awesome intro and aesthetic. Loved that the dodo dropped chocolate. I guess if I was to criticize it, it would be neat to have an indicator that you are getting hurt other than health going lower and perhaps maybe a score tracker of how many poops you smash. Other than that, game was fun to play and is awesome the way it is.

VIRTUAL VIRTUAL REALITY by dragoon 2017-12-15T06:53:22Z

Got to 11000! I really enjoyed it. Was simple, was cute, was fun. The music really added to the environment, and just loved the setting that the character was in. When the play style changed at 10k I thought it was really neat and exciting. I do wish it happens earlier considering how different it is and how long the first part goes on for. If that change of game play wasn't there, I'd think it's fine, but now that I've seen it and really enjoyed it, it's like, "Whoa, give me more of that Now!"

I guess it would be also a little neat if you can some how interact with the environment outside of the game, like you can put quarters into the machine for some reason, but game is also fine as it is. I'm also really curious to see if there are other game play changes at different scores.

Anyway, nice work!

Headstuck by fullmontis 2017-12-17T10:10:27Z

D'awww, game really pulled my heart strings. After my first playthrough, I went back to make the wrong choices and immediately went from pulling my heartstrings to tearing my heart out, which is just Fantastic. Really loved the feeling that the jittery texts illustrated and the sense of panic of trying to hold back what your instincts are trying to say and compose yourself to say the right thing. Awesome work! Was really sweet.

Loot Box Simulator by Chronodrax 2017-12-12T02:18:28Z

The game is a really fun idea and awesome to incorporate an important topic about video games today. I like that it doesn't actually condemn or praise getting loot boxes, which is pretty nice...or at least felt like it to me since I was having a lot of fun just playing around with all the boxes.

The game did feel a little too overwhelming at first with the three different screens and trying to understand what was happening in each, but a lot of that seemed taken care of in the post LD version. For me personally, the theme didn't impact me as much since the game only got more fun as I got more boxes. My reaction was basically, "YEAH, MORE BOXES!"

Now, depending on the route you want to take this, you can easily make this game sway more in one message than the other. I imagine if you remove the top screen and make it a pop up window in the main one to be more obnoxious, then it can easily be an anti loot crate game. You can also have the the money button start flashing or something once you are out of funds to encourage people to buy. On the other side of the spectrum, you can make it so the game gets all celebratory whenever you pull something rare and exciting, or more decorative as you play more and more.

Overall, has a lot of potential and fun!

The 800 Page Hedgehog and Bunny Epic by miziziziz 2017-12-20T23:42:27Z

This game was just Terrifying. The visuals of the hedgehogs and the all the sounds of the game really made it a horrifying experience (In a good way!). Not to mention the amount of levels and the difficulty of some levels just felt perfect. Never a moment where a stage felt impossible, just had to stop and think ahead. Really awesome job!

Soul Chase by aemiliu5 2017-12-12T12:06:37Z

The atmosphere of the game was really strong with the whispers and music going on, and really love the idea of the spirits fighting back and making things more crazy. The game made me panic at times when the spirits would start fighting and wanting to go jump off a ledge, so that interaction was real fun for me.

I do wish the game was a little zoomed out. Because of the camera being so close, it tend to jump side to side rapidly and trigger my motion sickness a little. I also felt the neon fluorescent lights were a little out of place considering it's a dark gloomy dungeon. Other than that, game was fun to play and love the idea.

Smooth Lines by yojammerjammer 2017-12-17T09:44:15Z

Woo, finally got around to seeing your game. The game has a crazy has a crazy amount of writing, and really impressive to see how different each answer is. Had awesome humor, a nice meaning behind it, and the music really added to his smoothness. Awesome job!

Just Ask Her Out by ciderWrath 2017-12-15T07:04:02Z

Wooo, thanks for the comments everyone!

@moonlightbomber You got it! I took a little break, but currently thinking up ideas of how I'm going to continue with the game. I had a lot of fun making the game and would like to keep working on it.

@bryceltaylor Glad you think that! About the different drawings, at first they were just spur of the moment of what I felt like drawing, but eventually the thought did cross my mind of I should reserve the style changes for the situations of how they were happening. I was real curious to know how others felt about that, so thanks for your comment!

A Game About Cats by SlimothyJ 2017-12-12T12:26:59Z

Was fun! Real simple and racks up in speed very quickly. Think it would be even more hilarious if for some reason the amount of cats was never ending, but juggling between 10 cats is already difficult enough. I do wish that petting the cats made an impact in their mood considering they were interactable (which is awesome btw). Thinking about it now, it probably would be more intuitive to remove the smiley face button completely and just make the cats show emotions. With the button also gone, clicking on them would mimic petting a cat in real life and make them feel better. In the end though, I enjoyed this game very much.

Dorm Doom by Cataractar 2017-12-16T11:44:46Z

I really enjoy the concept of this game. Feels very relatable, or to me at least, to have to juggle between working on a project and having to clean up after others. Putting out fires and fighting with dish aliens, not so much relatable, but the idea of it! Very relatable. I feel this game has a lot of potentional to be something really fun, so going to list off a few things about the game.

-As soon as I started the game, I was able to start on the project and finish without having to do anything else. Making things become a hazard earlier would feel the urgency of other things needing to be done.

-While I was working on the project, the sounds made me think that the door was locked and people kept trying to go inside to get the characters attention. While that wasn't the case, I think it would be awesome if people went into the characters room to hang out and distract.

-Along with the glitches others had of being able to place objects on the other side of the wall, I somehow was able to spawn a laundry basket while doing laundry on the right side, along with holding the bucket still. Not sure if it impacted the game that much since the house burned down.

-I think a better indicator of what needs to be done and larger font/different color for commands would help.

Overall, I really do like this game and would absolutely love to see it in a more finished state. It's a very fun idea and is on the right track to be something incredibly fun.

Pineapple Madness by Isaac Lang 2017-12-15T04:23:05Z

I enjoyed playing this game. I liked the style and I really enjoyed the golden pineapple and the ending that came along with it. I feel the ending really compounded on the meaning of the theme and made it great.

Along with what others have said though, the jumping is an issue, but I believe a lot of issues can be fixed by making the character shorter. The character is simply too tall, so you have to pay attention to both making a jump and hitting your head. Mechanically, that's not that big of a deal, but there is one spot higher up where there is a platform above you, across from you, and a gap in front of you. Avoiding the gap, the platform above, and making the jump leaves a very small window of opportunity before the platform breaks. If the character was shorter, it would help a lot dealing with overhead platforms.

Another spot that would help greatly with a shorter character is failing to make the fourth platform from the start of the game. Currently, if the player misses that platform, he's too tall to go under the third and now has to reset the game. With a shorter model, the player could just go under the third platform, jump onto the second, and now rarely hit reset. Of course these issues could also be fixed by adjusting the platforms, but I feel making the character shorter will be the better option since it's easier and also allows the player to see more of the character while tunneling onto his feet (Nice sandals by the way.)

Having the character shorter will also allow you to have more room to increase the height that the character jumps. There are a few platforms that are closer together but the character can only barely make the height to make the jump.

Whew, anyway! Sorry for the long write up, and hope I didn't sound harsh, but if this is your first entry then you can grow phenomenally. Your game is still very impressive, and again, I really enjoyed the art style you chose for the game and the visuals of the giant pineapple. Good job!

Last Ticket by Luciax 2017-12-14T06:46:06Z

Was an interesting game to play. I really loved the atmosphere with the style of the art and the music tied together. Felt very mystical to play, and was fun finding more of the story. I ended up getting endings A, B, and C, and was happy to see that they are dramatically different from one another. My only suggestions would be to possibly increase the jump length or the jump height since jumping felt like it needed to be at a precise spot to be able to jump over the purple flames, and that the game could use more sound effects (like when the monsters die or when the character gets hurt). Overall, I really enjoyed the experience.

Reyerta by Tatos 2017-12-12T12:39:40Z

I love the detail that went into this game. The fact that the other guy can insult/taunt you and even changes his body language to match. Really made the game a fun interactive experience. It would be nice the loud explosiony noise didn't happen when the friend also rolled too low considering it works in your favor, but I feel like that is nitpicking considering the game is already fun to play and well thought out. Good work!

Grim Groupies by Kramdar 2017-12-14T07:37:56Z

I really loved the mechanic of the game. It only got more and more fun as I had more followers but it became a huge nightmare after I had to try and get them all back after I died, so it fit the theme incredibly well. I do wish that the vertical hallways were a little bit wider so it wasn't just the right size to get stuck and move at incredibly slow speeds, but guessing that might of also been intended. I also feel a little dumb, but it took a pretty long time for me to get past the starting room since I wasn't standing in the right spot to interact with the door (can only do it on the left most side). AI think an indicator of where you can interact with things or have a larger zone to interact with an objects would help. Other than that, game shows a lot of promise and was fun.

Breakpoint by Quade Zaban 2017-12-14T11:51:44Z

This game was really incredible to play through for me. Visually, the bright colors from the distortions and the character interacts with them is just fantastic. The way the sound changed depending on where the character was standing was just amazing. Playing with a controller, it was also awesome to just have the vibrations also go along with what was going on.

It was a little confusing at first understanding what was going on, and I feel like it would be nice if there was some music playing in between distortions and those checkpoints so it wasn't so quiet and just turned into one giant musical piece, but really these are just personal thoughts of mine.

The game itself was a huge blast to play, and thank all of you for sharing such an awesome experience.

Bo Jackson in The Temple of Ming by Nodine 2017-12-16T01:31:19Z

I enjoyed it! Thought the concept was really fun and I love playing through the game. The slow motion bullets was a real nice touch and and the mix of the vases breaking and an army of people chasing me really added a sense of panic of everything going wrong.

If I was to make a suggestion, I'd say maybe put some indicator on the left side that the characters movements reflect onto the vases. Maybe a zoomed in picture of his chest while he's holding the vases, or having the floor also visually move with the vases might help with that. Also would be pretty cool to see more vases pile up onto the character himself as he's running. These are just suggestions though, and the game you all made was fun. Good work!
