Fun concept, going out into randomly generated dungeons collecting stuff to pay for going out into dungeons ^^ Sadly, the collision detection kind of ruined the fun. Getting hit by enemies you're not touching, not being able to jump through the wooden platforms from below and getting stuck in the wall while jumping down a shaft (would be a nice feature though, I used it a lot to check out what's below me before jumping all the way down ) make it hard to enjoy the hunt.

Shooting works fine, although the bullet never seems to actually hit something but keeps going until no longer on screen. The enemies should have some kind of hit point display to see how much damage was actually dealt. In the beginning it took three shots to kill them, but at some point I couldn't hit them at all (?) or did the just have more hp?

The music got a little repetitive, the melody fit the town nicely, just try to play with it some more, extend the loop to at least a minute and it should be fine.

Nice mission style! But I would have enjoyed the art with more animations. Good job though!

Nice and easy to play game, but I think the theme was a little off. Despite some buggy collisions you should have more feedback on your actions and the energy should be more usefull than for shooting (if you don't shoot your town would have energy for ever)

But I played for some good minutes, I only stopped cuz I needed to rate it and play more games =) Nice job guys!

Very interesting concept, made me think of DLC Quest where you have to buy everything you use. The pixel is great too, even though the main character doesn't have any animation.

@somethinboutgames basically said my other problems with the game right now.

With some more work put into it and more content, I think it will make a great platformer.

Love the style overall, with a bit of work and animations for the player this could be really cool. Reminded me of Motherload without the digging part.

Thank you everyone for the awesome feedback! We appreciate it a lot.

Unfortunately I can't say that the action part of the game is much fun. Since you get stuck on walls so easily, movement quickly becomes a chore. The quickly looping background music was quickly driving me nuts as well. Perhaps the game was a bit too ambitious for a ludum dare-- trying to incorporate and juggle all these different mechanics in a game for a jam sounds like you bit off more than you could chew. Focusing on a particular mechanic and making sure that it works out well to its full potential would have probably helped a lot.

Overall a good entry, although the collision, is a bit buggy. The graphics are good, but remind me of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8o16EmvSyNg. Overall good game!

@shinmeria I fully agree with you. It was my first game jam and I got a lot of experience from it, but I'll definitely learn from this for next time!

Looks like I caught a bug (Win10): http://i.imgur.com/rWj73Pu.png Shortly after the game starts, the background turns red and there's strange collider thing.

Looking forward to play the game still!

devillime 2017-08-02 12:59

@coauctor That's really weird. Have you tried redownloading it? Anyway I'll upload an html copy :)

Nice game, despite the few glitches people have already described I enjoyed playing it!

Some suggestions to improve quality for future game jams:

- Character sticking on walls: the usual reason for this issue is there's too much friction. I don't know how you setup physics properties in your case, but generally you want to set 0 friction and 0 bouncing for characters collision to be able to slide along walls easily.

- Character sliding too much: the best way to avoid frustration when your game involves some platforming is to start with a lot of linear drag on your character controller (the velocity should be 0 when there's no player input). This way you make sure you can deliver with the best possible accuracy, and then you can change it back to just a little bit of inertia later if you have some time left to polish and you want to make it look smoother.

- Game pad support: it seems it would be easy to add in your case because I can already move with the game pad stick. But the buttons don't work, and that would be a nice easy addition you can re-use through different game projects.

@pouleyketchoupp thanks for the feedback! I was really unsure about how to fix the sticky walls, I'll be sure to incorporate this next time it's relevant! The game pad support is also something I may add in the future.

@c0nst4ntin I do remember watching that video quite a while back, Mort is the person a learnt to pixel art from in the first place! When I was making the textures I guess it was the first thing I thought of

I liked the main game cycle, although I feel it will only get really good with a lot of upgrades for all the things, other than that bullets, life and money being the same currency is awesome and you should definetely polish this idea to have more upgrades and weapons and missions, it can become a very cool project. I feel like the wall clinging thing was not intentional, and it felt kind of clunky sometimes, however it did feel badass to wall cling and kill monsters from above.

robotsandmuffins 2017-08-02 18:26

Nice game. Music is addicted and I like the pixel art. Aiming and jumping at the same time is not easy because of the controls. But, overall, looks like a good game!

speedysloth99 2017-08-02 18:27

Quite buggy collision, but the game was fun and I liked how the dungeons worked. It was hard to see how much you were spending with no UI as well, but overall, I really like this game!

ramou 2017-08-02 18:44

i have a little bug with collider (jump and hold hover wall), the gameplay is classic but for one first is a great job ! The graphic and the sounds is good ;)

devillime 2017-08-03 05:53

Thanks to everyone, who left a review! :)

pedro-miranda 2017-08-04 13:07

Hey, nice entry, I like the graphics and the idea is neat! Only problem was sticking to every wall while juming. Great job!

Nice graphics and concept! I included it in my Ludum Dare 39 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XAlLzxVYeo
