LD36 — Ancient Technology

Nimura by happy30 2016-09-01T05:00:00

Good graphics and an interesting concept with building your own weapon.

Something seems off about the way combat works. Enemies don't seem to take damage when it seems like they should. Other than that, nice game! Nice job.

It took me a minute to figure out you're meant to alternate between s/d to run, and the little back and forth animation is funny. I like how you can control angle subtly when throwing by holding out space.

The way you handled acceleration is very nice building up to the throw, but the way you come to a stop is harder to figure out. I had many attempts where I slid over the line and heard the beep while my javelin was already on the way down.

The sound effects are nice. A wind speed sound might add character to the game or feedback to the player on faster/better throws.

Overall it was a fun game, trying to repeatedly beat my highscore (I got 292).

LD39 — Running out of Power

BUG SQUASHER 9000 by alwaysinbeta 2017-08-05T22:00:32Z

Hey man, great game! I had fun playing up to the end. The concept, controls, gameplay, and especially sound is very nice. I felt motivated to figure out how to beat every level.

The biggest thing thing that bothered me was that the game is very unforgiving for how much speed it gives you. It's super easy to go to fast, and slightly bumping the walls or an enemy can quickly end you, perhaps leading to a more conservative play style than you intended.

Overall though, very fun and entertaining! Great job!

The Bellwether Incident by juxipolo 2017-08-05T23:23:57Z

Wow, did you write the engine yourself? Well done!

The text is kind of slow and it can be very difficult to determine what the goal of the puzzle is sometimes. For example, in the first level where you have to cap the radioactive stuff, the player has to assume that getting close to it will allow you to cap it. Puzzle games don't work super well if you don't give the player all the information they need to solve the possible.

Some of the sound effects are really loud and jarring (like when boxes are pushed). Still a lot better than my weak sound design, though. :P

I think with a little tweaking this game could be really entertaining. Despite being a little confusing and at times tedious, it's still a solid game and fun to play right now. Great job man!

S3R-V3R R00M by adrian0901 2017-08-05T22:27:17Z

May not be finished, but still pretty cool! The server managing thing is a nice concept that could work really well. What's holding this game back I think is not being able to see the impact of your choices. It seems really difficult to actually run out of power for a while, even if you're accepting every offer. Additionally, the refunds come out of nowhere and it's hard to tell who's demanding them or why. Overall nice job, keep it up!

(ps try setting the image filter on your tilemap to 'nearest' or something like that to get rid of the blurry effect - not sure how gamemaker does that)

Clone Colony by tmpxyz 2017-08-05T23:34:22Z

Wow, great job! Seems like you put a lot of effort into this. I appreciate the added tutorial screens. Without that the game would've been really hard to grasp. Nice work!

No Sign Of Life by silkworm_sweatshop 2017-08-05T21:29:06Z

Very engaging! I managed to make it all the way to the end with no pellets left on my first try. I enjoyed uncovering the narrative in the other astronauts you find. The crystal section really piqued my interest since I went there right before getting to the ship. The music was perfect for that part. I would have loved to see a darker/more interesting expansion on that plotline. Overall I think it was really entertaining and well polished into a complete package. Great job!

Self Preservation by spencerjp 2017-08-05T22:42:39Z

@silkworm-sweatshop: Since it's just ansi text and I didn't make the font, I thought it would be better to opt out.

Voyage of the Indefatigable by Jaculabilis 2017-08-05T23:08:12Z

Surprisingly fun for this kind of strategy game! A pause function like Dwarf Fortress has might be helpful to try to stop and plan things and then start again. I got sucked into a spatial flux by surprise a few times and had to restart. Like @lectvs said, it can be kind of difficult to pick up the strategy and figure out what needs to happen and who needs to be where, but it was still entertaining. The wizard and horses are pretty funny. Nice job!

No Castle No Title by Sugiuro 2017-08-05T22:53:19Z

Is it even possible to win? This was pretty amusing albeit extremely difficult. Nice job, but I think the balance could use some work :P

ps I greatly appreciate the Linux build! Unfortunately I had to dualboot into windows to play everybody else's games, though.

FLARE by whalecakes 2017-08-05T22:39:51Z

Hey man, looks like we made kind of similar games. :P

For a first time using LOVE2D, the graphics look great! I like the way the visibility circle grows and shrinks. I guess the "running out of power" part is that the circle shrinks with each move? It seems pretty easy to beat it without noticing that the circle shrinks, however. I think with some sound and a little more animation this would be really polished! Nice work, and I look forward to seeing what you can make next.
