Excellent house design!!! The walls prevent me from seeing my character and the objects in rooms,it would be better if the front walls are transparent.

I enjoyed this, cute little sneak'em'up! The randomness of the cat ai was a little frustrating at times as I just sat there for a lengthly amount of time waiting for them to finish moving back and forwards between the same spots and it would be nice to have some idea of what i've stolen so far but other than that i thought it was really good - simple but effective and thematic music and lovely art. Nice job!
The idea is pretty cool. But I think some of the rooms are a bit too dark. I had problems figuring out, where the doors were. Maybe some highlighting of the doors would help with navigation while keeping the darker look. Also the game was a bit laggy, even with reduced graphics settings. The graphical design overall was pretty good and the sound effects matched nicely with the game. Good work.
Godlike Art! I love hand painted room materials and the cats and rats looks furry. The lighting is professional. Could you share your technique? www Algorithm-generate content keeps the game can be played many times.
Problems: - the biggest is that i cannot adjust my view of point. also the lower side of the room are blocked. - give furniture physics is a good idea. However, please give me visual feedback when I can hide in the furniture. maybe an 'E' letter? - game mechanics is a little simple.
Graphics and sound are great! Sneaking around was fun. Sometimes enemys tried to walk through a wall, but otherwise everything was working fine. It would be nice if there would be some kind of shop or something like that to spend money, or maybe more random events to keep player motivated. This is a really nice game, good work! :)
This is a such a great game. Despite the AI and the theme, this game is still one of the best out there! Keep on the good work!
Great game, art and level design!!! Could improve a little the AI
Really nice game! Graphics and atmosphere are really good! Needed 5 tries to escape with my loot the first time.. :D AI acts a bit stupid, but that is kind of funny. Sometimes the player spawns just in front of a cat, that is a bit annoying. But all in all it's one of the greatest games I played here so far! Good job!
Wow, what a game! This is a game I would like to see out there on the steam market. You might not have followed the theme though and there are so more time left needed to be spent on the game before it is ready for publish but it would be worth it in my opinion. The art is at the top in this game keep up the good work.
A nice-looking game for sure, but there really just wasn't any challenge involved. It's way too easy for the AI to just get lost in a room and get stuck in there indefinitely, leaving me to roam around as I please. Additionally, I've found that sometimes, despite an object glittering, and me pressing space as much as I want in its vicinity, I just couldn't pick it up at all.
Good level design, but too dark
The graphics are really impressive, especially considering how little time you had. The game is very ambitious and for a game with such a large scope you have done excellently. However the AI does not really seem to work properly. The cats keeps getting stuck in one room. Sometimes they can't get through doors etc. Some heist the game get really easy because if this and sometimes its impossible. At the start of some heists my character spawned in a room with several cats already in it, making it impossible to get to a hiding place.

Really nice game. The graphics are really impressive and creates a really great atmosphere. Loved the gameplay as well, it was way to fun to hide in the closet from the cat only to jump out, scare it and immediately run to safety. He he stupid cat :joy: Very good job!
Very good graphics, audio and a fun game. Incredibly polished overall. Just a bit more content and polish and its professional grade already. Good job
Graphics are stunning, the sound design and music are hugely impressive, and the procedural generation is remarkably polished for Ludum Dare. Excellent work there. The game does suffer in some other areas unfortunately; the AI doesn't seem to work properly. I could run in front of cats without them doing much about it; I could steal in front of them and have them chase after me and not do anything when they got there, I could hide right in front of them and they wouldn't have a clue where I was. On many occasions I saw them fail to get through doors or walk into a corner of the room. So, no real challenge to the game. But just exploring and moving around the beautiful interior was enjoyable in itself, so I still had my fun with it.
As others have mentioned, camera controls would be excellent, even just at 90 degree angles, and I would love to be able to better tell where I can hide. It's not at all obvious which elements of furniture have that property.
I'm not clear on how the game ties in to the theme, though. You don't seem to be running out of much, unless it's just meant to imply that you have no power in society?
Love the game, although it was hard too play in some rooms due to fixed camera angle. Also not sure about the theme, but overall well done .
I am totally unable to see how this relates to the jam theme. However, I enjoyed this game so much. The visuals are awesome. Lights, textures, character design and animation are top quality. I don't know if the levels are procedurally generated but I believe so since sometimes my initial situation seems totally hopeless. The gameplay is pretty natural and fine-tuned, it even exceeds the quality of some commercial games I have played. However, as others noticed, the AI needs some work. For example, when a cat is behind the door and tries to enter, I can force it closed, and after some retries, they give up and change direction instead of being suspicious. And why does all the cats hold torch lights and keep patrolling the same room together for a long time; I think that adding more natural actions for the NPCs can truly enhance the experience. Anyway, this is one of the best games I've played even when compared to commercial games.
Thanks all, your feedback is really helpful and much appreciated!
The camera angle and light level obscuring the environment is definitely something we noticed, but we obviously got a little too used to it. It's useful to hear that it makes finding your way around difficult. We'll experiment with either hiding the front facing walls when you're near them, or having a character outline show through. I'm a little more in favor of having some interesting wall cutout effect happening, to show the player. Items may need some sort of extra effect to be able to see them better.
Unfortunately, the AI is something I struggled with towards the end of the jam. More specifically, the problem lies with the pathfinding and the way I'm integrating the character controllers with Unity's navmesh (as well as having the navmesh get dynamically generated once rooms are randomly laid out). This is not something I've had a lot of experience with, so there are still plenty of problems. On the plus side, they present a fun challenge to solve. My takeaway here is that I shouldn't have left solving these problems to the last few hours of the jam, when my brain was a gibbering mess :P
Anyway, thanks for your continued feedback everyone - keep it coming!
@fangzhangmnm The lighting magic is mostly Unity's. We set our camera to a deferred rendering pass, use the realtime setting and soft shadows on lights, and mark house objects as static. If I recall, I also used a darker skybox and set the ambient light level low, as well as a very low light directional light. Most of it is trial and error, as my understanding of lighting in computer graphics is pretty basic. The main camera also has a bunch of Unity's camera effects, like tilt shift, antialiasing, and screen based ambient occlusion.
On the OS X build, I pressed Space to start and nothing happened. I thought maybe it was just loading things but after 30 seconds no luck, so I closed it. Sorry :-(
@steve-johnson Damn, sorry about that. Thanks for letting me know though. I normally work on a mac, but recently moved to windows and wasn't able to test on OS X. I'll see if I can get a colleague to test and see if I can find the issue there.
Awesome (and cute) graphics! The music and sounds fit the game very well. I think, there should be highlighting for stuff you can pick up or objects where you can hide when you are standing next to the respective objects. If the walls you are standing behind were transparent, that would be great. Altogether great gameplay and superb game!
Oh and... awesome game name! :D
This is an awesome game, seriously good job on this! The gameplay is fun & addictive, and procedurally generated levels maximise the replayability! The two things I would mention is that it would be good to have the ability to rotate the camera, as I found myself wanting to rotate it and even move it with the mouse cursor to a certain degree - maybe have the ability to look around the map if you are standing still or something? Anyway the other thing is that I noticed the AI tends to group up in one room and a lot of the time they get stuck. Other than that, this is a great game! Kudos to the whole team!
I have been making a let's play series highlighting my favourite games from LD 39, and TKOR was in my latest video. Here's a link if you are interested. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-HjQqlkj5I&feature=youtu.be
@Sarrixx Thanks so much, that's a great video! I enjoyed seeing you evading some of those cats, good stuff. I noticed that bug of not being able to hide after you'd dropped your bag, I'll sort that one out. Thanks again for playing :)
Wow! thanks so much for the support and kind comments!
As everyone's mentioned, the graphics and audio here are top notch! I can't help but wonder why you chose to go with random generation of levels, though? It seems like the AI would have been easier to handle with set levels and patrol routes, and predesigned levels could add some more tactical nuance. A thoroughly excellent game, though!
