Solid game! I encountered an issue a couple of times where the card I was trying to play would just disappear and nothing would happen, but I still had the mana so I just played something else. Overall a very nice card game implementation with awesome art and fun gameplay!

A cool card game. It seemed that the AI player had cards that I never saw so it seemed a bit unfair. While I stayed in the game for quite a while, it seemed woefully unbalanced. Not sure if there is randomness to the decks or not since it seems that others fared much better than I.

Nice game! Felt very polished with all the text effects and art. I do wish that there was a cursor or something to help me follow along with the opponent as I felt confused for the first few turns, and a description of the units once they are placed would be helpful. Good job!

Beautiful game, I think this is what I was envisaging when I tried my hand at a deckbuilding roguelike. Could only ever get up to level 4, but it's very satisfying. The art is amazing, and the music fits the theme nicely. Excellent work!

@james-dunlap You start with a randomly generated deck, and you always get a stable rate of sorceries and summons. It is possible you got a bad start - balancing is hard during jams :shrug: Each of the three opponents have their own biases to spells they like, and they are getting progressively stronger each time you defeat them, so you are expected to "loose" in this game - it's about staying alive for as long as you can. I also noticed it's not obvious for some players that they should use discard actions each and every turn - a tactical choice whether to draw more cards or get more mana, and if not used - it only leaves opponent with more advantage. @jacobingalls You can see more unit stats in a tooltip, for both hostile and friendly summons. It shows the card itself in the upper middle of the screen.

@conrad-etherton Thanks for letting us know. We fixed some of the game-breaking bugs in the update 1.0.1.

Probably a case of optimizing fun out of the game, but I feel like the strongest mechanics in the game revolved around using weaken and stun to fill your opponent with a bunch of useless creatures, and then buff up a bear to tear through and win. But the enemy will start weakening and stunning you too, since they have nothing else to do... so just have to get lucky and for them to not target your bear. Idk, it's a fun game and I really like the mechanics, I just wish there was more incentive to play aggressive. Great game though, thanks so much for making it!

Such a fun game, I dunno how you make so much content in such a short amount of time. I really enjoyed the strategy, and the AI felt really competent which made for a great challenge! :heart:

Only made it to the 4th enemy, but I think I'll be back to defend the forest at least once more. The character designs were adorable, and the music fit it so well. Loved this, thanks for sharing!

I enjoyed playing the game! I only got to level 4, where I got defeated. Unfortunately, I had to start from the first level again. On replay, the game got stuck in one of the moves of the enemy... My highscore was 660.

Well done on this card game, these are usually pretty difficult to balance, but the balance felt pretty good! As I recommended on stream, I would like to see some synergies between the summons. Other than that, being able to stun the main enemy would be nice to keep them from healing and such!

A lot of fun! I ended up playing for an hour or so. I'll admit that after a while I did lower the music volume, but I still think music, sound and graphics are excellent!

I wonder if there's a shuffling issue though, at one point I ended up getting mostly summons and weakens, with the occasional shield and stun. Based on my opponent also basically playing only those, I assume they had the same issue, and it look a *long* time to end that encounter, with me having 75 mana at the end because I didn't have anything useful to spend it on.

Very well done game. Graphics are beautiful, the sound is very good, and the gameplay is the best positive point. The game's game design is elegant, probably one of the best in this jam. You can spend hours playing this game without any problems. Very fun.

Great game, feels so polished I wouldn't guess it was made during a jam. Impressive work. Enemies do get an absurd amount of mana later on tho, died to an enemy chaining 3 damage spells in a single turn. Also here is my highscore :3 image_2024-04-20_220354502.png

@justaroom Holy moly, congratulations on your high score! :confetti_ball: Enemies indeed get absurd amount of mana with time, and the player is basically doomed. That's because we didn't want the game to keep going into infinity, and didn't have time to test the balance to create a proper sequence of enemies this time around (we did that for ROLLiE during last jam).

Got my 1840 on the scores (as verified by the devs hanging out on Twitch chat!) Had a lot of fun playing this one. It's got a lot of charm and some interesting dynamics in the placements and powers. I'm curious to see what this could grow into!

@frank-gevaerts Hey! Thanks for playing and the feedback! :unicorn: I looked through code, and the shuffling looks good to me. What likely may have happened is that you got a deck with that kind of spells from the start. It's randomized, and the procedure only cares that a certain ratio of sorceries to summons is maintained. And some enemies also have predetermined bias for buffs and debuffs. In the retrospect, I should've put some precautions from generation becoming too boring. :thinking:

It would have been nice to have a cheat sheet for some of the keywords on the cards (I'm guessing you got trample from MTG, and I probably wouldn't have known what it did if I didn't play), but other than that the cards were really easy to understand and use strategically, nice job!

The visuals are really pretty, and the mechanic of the game seems to be well thought-out.

I seem to have a rogue card appearing in card selection after victory:

It appears and disappears, and impossible to click on.

It took me a minute to figure out the cards (didn't really understand what "targets the cells" means, then figured it's for summoning creatures, then thought ok "targets enemy" must mean I should use that card ON enemy bit it was actually a summon characteristic ^^') Maybe if it was clearer which cards are "summon" ones and which are "attack" ones, that would be helpful ^^

I felt like gameplay was maybe a bit slow? Or maybe it feels like that because I was thinking too slowly :)

Really liked all the different creatures, and overall design of the game. The tutorial for the cards looks gorgeous. I think my only wish is more clarity on what the specific cards do, on cards themselves.

Very cool game! The graphics are very nice, and the gameplay well thought and very fun!

A little in-game tutorial about the cells and perhaps the cards effects like ‘trample’ could be nice, even if you eventually understand after some time.

I encountered a little issue with the mouse wheel, I rolled it by accident while moving the mouse and it selected and played my whole new fireball... :angry: If that is on purpose it would be nice to say it somewhere. :sweat_smile: Also, I think the fireball damages were inflicted to myself, but I can't confirm it...

If I had one real reproach about this game, it would be that you don't know what the enemy is doing. You don't see his mana, you don't see how many cards he have (does he even have cards?), and you don't see what card he plays. My run was ended by an enemy summoning almost nothing, directly inflicting damage to me and stunning my creatures so I never did a single damage to him... And I was like "Does he have the cards to do that? Or are these special capacities?"...

But that was really fun anyway. Great job! ^^
