That was a really interesting mechanic, but I found the controls confusing. Using a wheel to choose the direction is misleading because Saint Uck can't actually shoot his sticky bits in 360 degrees. Maybe adding a visual indicator of the 8 directions on the selector wheel would help make it clearer.

Tried to run it on windows 10exewindows10.png

EDIT1: NEVERMIND I just needed the .pck file. It's working fine now.

EDIT2: I really like how methodical I had to be about how I moved throught the level, but I also realized that there's some ways to do some interesting trick shots by launching multiple tentacles(?) while you're in motion. If you want more emphasis on those trickshots, a mid-air slow-motion feature could allow for some really interesting advanced moves. You could also have implemented some way the player could fail. Like adding some spikes, or something.

I think it might have been a little more fun if you could let go while your character was traveling and drift for a bit, and could shoot off in any direction rather than an 8-way. Still though, congrats for completing your game!

Not bad :)

As @ale said though, the controls are confusing. Also, sometimes you can scrape by the wall, sometimes you get stuck. It's as if it's not entirely 45 degree partitions.

Also, there 's no challenge at all, like a timer or enemies.

Sound would be the next big step!

This has a unique mechanic, I'd love to see arbitrary angles, and more complex puzzles! I'm looking forward to version 2 :-)

Finally someone else that used Godot! :D

The concept was cool, but became a bit repetitive quite fast! Maybe some upgrades or power ups, challenges, or enemies would make it more interesting.

Anyway, still a cool concept. Well done!

Give it full 360 degree controls and it'd be a fun puzzle game! Nice job

Cute little puzzle game! I enjoyed the controls, esp when you pull off two grapples at once. I imagine this would be really fun as a mobile app!

PS: Love a good cleverly worded title!

Really nice done. Reminds me a bit of spider man when you use several arms :D Really nice done.

Concept is interesting. With some design work I think you got a fun little mobile project on your hands. I think you also met your design goal of fulfilling the theme in a non-standard way.

I feel like the zones for the diagonals were a bit off, it might have been nice to color the different regions of the circles to show where you need to move the mouse in order to get it moving diagonally.

Other than the controls, everything else seems to work for the project. I particularly like the Dr. Seuss-like poem.

Interesting take on the theme. Was a good concept though and I liked the limitation of the 8 way directions. Maybe slowing down the movement a little would allow for the use of more tentacles to get a better range of movement. Really great job on this!

Simple but nice game. I feel like you should have either went all in with the 8 directions or allow 360°. Being able to aim in 360° but the character moving in 8 directions was quite confusing and hard to use.

I was surprised by how much fun I had playing this. After a while I settled into a groove and felt really good going through the levels. It could use some more polish, though, and I thought it was weird that the interface has a circle like you can launch in any direction, but you're actually locked down to eight.

civmaniac 2020-10-15 22:11

Cool concept of limiting directions for movement and also well visualized. At first, I didn't realize that the game limits my options and thought it's bugged, since it was auto-correcting my aiming. It is kind of obvious if you pay attention, though. Both thumbs up for a Godot game! You could make a web build, because most people are too lazy to download ;) I ran it from source on Linux. Worked well for me. Game "crashed" into debugger somewhere after level3.tscn. My guess is code ran out of levels to load ;)

Interesting mechanic. I was quite confused until I read comments saying it was only the 8 directions. Game crashes after level 4.

megepok 2020-10-24 16:04

The main mechanic of the game is good. The fact that you can try and do trick with it is really interesting. Since the movement is stuck to 8 directions it would have been better to change the circle so that you know you can only move in those 8 directions. Of course, it needs some audio to make it better. The game may be simple, but it is a quite fun.

A very fun and interesting little game. The controls could have been a bit better, and the movement also needs a bit more work, but overall was it not a big issue and I had fun playing the game. Well done.
