wow. What a cool game. The spear mechanic feels really really really good, and the recoil you get from catching it giving you a jump boost is genius, it feels awesome to nail a jump throw spear boost wall jump combo kind of thing and get massive air.
It is definitely on the harder side, I'm stuck on a jump right now that I can't get passed, however the game is so polished and juicy that it really just feels like I've accidentally warped to like a later level in a complete game that I'm not ready for.
Visually its gorgeous, the animations are super smooth and the way the spear moves and has the flag on the end looks rad. Sound is also really strong, the spear sounds are super satisfying the bgm is chill and builds a good ambiance.
Only feedback I'd have is to maybe ramp up the difficulty a bit gentler and provide some sort of diegetic tutorial on the spear boost mechanic if that's intended.
Amazing job.
absolute banger of a game and a terrific entry. love the art aesthetic and the moody vibes, and the sound design work is extremely solid. well done y'all, definitely a game i'd love to play with a controller -- would definitely love to see a build with that supported!
@magnusfurcifer Thanks for feedback, I'm glad you liked it! We became way too accustomed to the controls by the end and may have made it a bit to hard  If you still wanna play through the rest I can help with the part you're stuck at!
@lushboy-studios Thanks for playing! The current version is compatible with controllers on my end, though it seems that may not be the case for everyone. If you're interested in trying it out, please feel free to do so!
Nice game! nice gameplay and graph

Great game! I love the art, animations and the polish of everything. Also like the different materials (ground, metal), and how the spear reacts to them with matching sfx, really satisfying details.
This is really a very atmospheric game. i will definitely come back later to play more of it. i really like the music and the look of the game, the music is very harmonious and the picture is nice to look at. the mechanics of the summoned spear is very interesting. most of all i like the sound of its summoning and throwing. it is also interesting that you have to take into account the recoil of its arrival, otherwise you can fall down. i really hope that this game will have more levels in the future! thanks for your work! <3

Love it! Art, physics, mechanics. Really clever what you made around this javelin. Like throwback, really interesting. Wish you luck, i hope you are going to release this game!

Wow, I think, that's my favorite game at this jam. Pretty good job. Art, sound and gameplay is something gorgeous. Really good polished The only problem I see is that the javelin is not quite summoned. By the way I think you should continue to develop this game!
Captivating art, and the mechanic of throwing and retrieving the spear is really cool, especially the knockback when it returns. Congratulations on your game.
Really cool game! I tried at first to play with a controller, but I felt the game didn't play great with a controller. The right stick motion had to be a bit too precise for me, and jump on RB felt kind of weird. On M+K it was great though! I'm not quite sure if I hit the end. I found a big room with tons of collectables, but it seemed like a dead end, and I couldn't get far enough back. The movement was super fun, I was surprised at its flexibility! I really liked the in-air momentum stuff a lot. The on-the-ground momentum stuff killed me a lot, I think that stuff more or less just adds a layer of frustration to the game, and not really of puzzling or platforming to me. Overall super fun game - let me know if I found the real end!
Super atmospheric game. I love this sounds!
2024-04-17 12:49
@nardandas yes that is the end of the game :) congrats! Thanks for the feedback as well. Ya the on ground recoil can take a bit to get used to, I can see that being frustrating. Maybe we'll adjust that in the future.

I lоооove this game! :hearts:
I don't even know what to say. The game feels so good and polished in absolutely all aspects. Especially considering it's a jam game.
It would be great if you made a full big game based on this at some point. Speedrun mode? Online leaderboard? Convenient gamepad support?
By the way, I have an idea to improve the convenience of aiming on a gamepad. It seems that sometimes in the game it's important to aim **quickly**, and sometimes it's important to aim **accurately**. You might try to make it so that when you **press** the right stick, aiming becomes fast (instant?) for a short duration of time (or just until the next stick tilt?), and the rest of the time let the aiming be slow but accurate. Something like this.
Thanks for providing a great game!

Another idea! You can also draw the expected flight path before throwing the javelin. This does not have to be the full path, it can be the path up to the first collision with an obstacle. It would be convenient to play with such a thing.
2024-04-17 16:34
Genius! Absolutely love the momentum you get when throwing and summoning the javelin, feels so good when you skip a few jumps at hyper speed after re-grabbing your javelin. Loved the main game, and then loved figuring out how I could get out of the final room and get to all the tricky places. Graphics and polish were also top notch. Best game I've played so far and I think this game lots of has potential if you want to keep developing it. Congrats on a legendary entry!

Sometimes a bug can happen when transitioning between screens: the character falls through the ground.
In particular, this happened here when moving near the final checkpoint: moving right (to the last screen), then left (go back to previous screen), then right. WebGL version of the game.
@fumybulb Thanks for the kind words - I'm glad you enjoyed playing! Those are some really great suggestions, might have to steal some of them  Thanks for pointing out the bug, should be fixed now!
2024-04-19 05:42
Amazing work! Artistically it looks great and very polished for the short time of the Jam, the detail of the particles on the stage is very good. The spear mechanic feels really good, the game overall feels super fluid and solid, great work on testing and game design. Well done! XD

Well polished and extremely fun to play. Difficulty ramp was mostly fine, as you know I stuck on one of the levels but I think that was a skills issues. Amazing entry.

@saryah Thanks for playing! I enjoyed watching you play on stream :)

Still surely the best game I've played this LD. Movement is awesome, pixelart is awesome, mood is perfect, difficulty is difficult.
6 out of 5 stars overall :kissing::ok_hand: With an ending, it would be 7/5.
Great work!
I really dig the aesthetic, and the artwork is just perfect. The mechanic for the javelin was really cool too, and I enjoyed playing very much. Great Job!
2024-04-21 09:35
Excellent entry. I love how the game has a single mechanic, but its so well polished that nothing else is really needed. The game looks, feels and sounds great to play and its a simple but well executed interpretation of the theme as well. Initially I thought the recoil from the javelin throw/catch were just attention to detail, but actually using it as a mechanic was brilliant and it made things so much more interesting. Great job, I had a blast playing it! All it was missing was a proper ending, but that's just a nitpick.
Great work. Nothing to say about graphics and sounds (I like the different sounds depending on the surface). For the mechanic, I dislike a bit playing keyboard + mouse especially when you have to point the opposite direction. Also the camera movement was weird, it changes too many times when you jump (maybe it was only at the beiginning iI don't remember). But the mechanic was quite fun, even if it's a bit hard especially when you can fall down to the bottom. ++ game!
This is wonderful! The spear mechanic is original and feels really satisfying, and the level design is both fun and interesting. I wouldn't be surprised if you end up ranking in the top five. I'd love to play a full release, and I'm even willing to help with development if you ever need an extra developer. Keep up the great work!
Such a cool game! Loved spear mechanic and the great atmosphere! Would love to play more!

It looks amazing, the sounds are great. The movement feels very refined for a jam-game, for the constraints given.
Ok I gave it antoher try. Ive just seen in the videos that you actually have to fall down... I'm wondering if you can go further, I was in the big room with all the blue gems (btw animations to get the gems back are nice). Capture d'écran 2024-04-21 190300.png
That is a fantastic idea for a platformer, albeit a difficult one to get used to! The graphics and sound were as phenomenal as the gameplay! One thing that was hard to get used to was the bump in movement I got when the spear got recalled. It seemed to fit for when I was in the air, but there were a number of times when I was landed on the ground and it knocked me off the platform, sometimes to my death.

2024-04-21 17:27
I had to go so I couldn't play it too much yet, tho I can already tell this is amazing. It feels perfectly polished. The main mechanic is really interesting, what really makes it so good is the little force you get when throwing/catching the javelin (The javelin throw by itself is nice, tho I've already seen it used before). The levels look like they can be traversed in multiple ways, going from easy-ish to fancy. I think the theme is there but it's not the best take I have seen, so that's probably the weakest aspect for me. Still, the rest is so good that overall it's perfect!
2024-04-21 17:31
I made it into the pit but there was nothing ;O; this is a great standalone and very polished standalone game. There is so much altenative movement you can get out of the boost provided by the spear throw and recall. :'D Amazing to use with the aim of speedrunning, but for lesser speedrunny moments using it as a platform instead is still a great option to give to the player. 1 weapon, multiple playstyles to master. Super fun gameplay :')

I'm so shocked. You folks are amazing. This is so polished and good entry! Sound (different pavement sounds), music, art and especially gameplay is superb. I played with a game pad. So smooth movement and jumps, it reminds me Celeste movement. I can't understand how you did it so good in 3 days. wow

By far, for me at the present time , this is the best game of this edition of Ludum Dare! Incredible! It features a Celeste-style aesthetic and gameplay, but it is by no means a copy or clone.
It introduces an original mechanic that I have not seen before. The graphics are excellent, and the music is equally impressive.
The only area I see that needs improvement is the user experience when controlling the player. Sometimes it can be a bit frustrating not being able to perform certain actions because it feels like you're missing something, not that you lack the ability to make that move. However, this can only be resolved through game testing; that is, by observing people play your game. This is true for all games but especially for platformers, where extensive game testing is essential, as was the case with Celeste. But in a Game Jam, where the game is developed within 72 hours, there simply isn't enough time to conduct proper game testing; hence, this doesn’t affect my rating of the game.
Nevertheless, for me, it has earned the highest scores in all categories I've voted on (I abstained from voting on the theme as I was unclear about the idea of invoking the javelin). I am absolutely delighted with this game.
In conclusion, great game, the best I've tried so far. I am looking forward to an extended version of this game and will keep an eye out for Garbanzo Goon (I couldn't find your logo). Superb game!
This was amazing... I am not an action platformer kinda guy, but the mechanics were so compelling that I just had to push through to the end! Thank you @skransow for sharing, what an incredible game... great job, team <3

I only wish that I was better at platformers to truly enjoy this. The mechanic is incredibly interesting, the music and art are great, and the level of polish you managed to achieve in 72 hours is super impressive. Amazing work!

Really well made game. Everything is extremely polished and the main mechanic is unique and feel great to use
Played it a bit on stream and got the vod below if you wanted to watch it (game is the 15th chapter)
https://youtu.be/25pr3bVYXnk
And I'm the host for the ludum dare score chasers tournament this Ludum Dare. Wanted to ask if youre fine if I put some gameplay of the game in an intermission video. Last year for reference:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TM_eIvjBmIQ
Fun game, the ending was a bit confusing (I kept searching if it was the end or not) but that is to be expected of a 72h jam! Overall a very fun game and the movement mechanics felt fun to use.
As others said, its absolutely impressive that you managed to make this in 72 hours. Innovative, very polished in every aspect, with no noticeable bugs, and a brilliant level design. Mind blowing!!
2024-04-21 22:57
@ategon Thanks for playing! Glad you enjoyed. You're more than welcome to use our game in your video
Extremely polished, but why? It is well made and impressive but I couldn't find a point to it. That being said, I'm still blown away by how functional and polished this is for a 72-hour game.
2024-04-22 01:35
@marin-davys Thanks! Our goal with this game was to make a super polished platformer. I'm a little confused by your question though. The point of the game is just to traverse through the levels using the javelin movement mechanics and pick up the collectibles.
OMG his game is absolutely phenomenal!! the level of polish here is so crazy crazy, if someone were to tell me that this was a full release on Steam I'd totally believe it. This is some pro level stuff right here
Both the sprite work and the music are amazing, I love the atmosphere and the world you built here, it's very immersive and well done
The main mechanic is super satisfying., especially that knockback I am sure it allows allows for some really cool strategies. I am not super good when it comes to using movement in crazy ways but I was able to pull some neat little tracks with it. the level design is clever and it fully uses the central mechanic to it's advantage, it's all very fun and the right amount of challengeing.
this is one of my favorite entries, if not my absolute favorite form the whole jam, I loved it! congrats to the team for making this amazing entry
Wow, this is amazing! Everything is so polished and it feels so good to play! It gave me the same feeling as playing Celeste for the first time, and left me wanting so much more! This needs to be made into a full game so I can buy it.
Caught this one on stream and had to go back and play it.
The main mechanic of the javelin is the epitome of an "easy to understand, difficult to master" game mechanic. The momentum management that is secondary in many precision platformers like Celeste is this game's bread and butter, and the open-ended obstacles tempt you to try different approaches and develop mastery. I particularly like the fact you get a momentum boost when recalling the javelin, allowing for really interesting setup-and-payoff moves to cross tricky jumps and scale ledges.
For a jam game, the art and audio are off the charts. The visual direction is very distinct and legible, with tons of little bits of polish like particles, parallax, and the various effects on the javelin itself like the ribbon and wobbling animation upon hitting something. It's clear the team was in extremely close communication and had a shared vision for the game to be able to execute on it so well.
I've participated in 17 Ludum Dares, and this is on my short list for favorite entries ever. The actual ratings for LD are unpredictable, but I would not be surprised at all to see this one in the top ten or even in the top spot. Excellent work to the whole team!

@jeremy-ryan Ahhhh! We've never gotten fanart before this is really cool! Thanks for the glowing review as well, that means a lot coming from someone with your experience.
Very good! Feels great to play, and rewarding to use the physics of the spear's throw and return. Sometimes it can really mess you up, so I kind of wish there was a way to catch without getting pushed into a spike pit lol. Audio and visual are top notch and create a great and fitting mood. I appreciate we're not summoning demons like most of the games in this jam, however a part of me feels the theme representation is on the weaker side. I think I made it to the end, where the room is filled with the blue collectibles... I kind of wish that was more clear somehow, just to put a nice bow on it. (*I'm guessing ya ran out of time, understandable*)
Great job overall, everyone!

I love the vibes of this game! This ambient, melancholic soundtrack, mixed with the "desolate" visual theme and the effects really round everything up together  Great work!
Beautiful graphics and audio. A bit too hard for me but that's not a criticism, I just suck. A very well put together and polished game with a unique core mechanic.
EXCELLENT work! Interesting mechanics - easy to understand but HARD to effectively use. I wasn't able to make it to the end (yet) but I found myself constantly feeling like I was getting better the longer I played, which is a hard thing to nail in a game in general, but near impossible for a jam game. Really impressive game design. Audio and visuals are excellent as well. Everything is very immersive without feeling distracting. One of the best games I've played this time around.
2024-04-22 18:47
Super cool entry, the "Thor's hammer mechanic" is a excellent take on the theme. The mechanics different utilizations were quickly learned but had great depth. I found the difficulty curve and the length of the game excellent for a Jam, I never really got into a "flow" where i could fully utilize any momentum, but that's on me. Even so *almost* all of the puzzles were solvable without any momentum. But the massive knockback made any step by step solution very frustrating.. I guess you were trying to force us to "get good".
A notification that the game had ended would have been great, I tried to pole vault out of the "collectable room" for longer than I care to admit. But hey, its a Jam. Great work!
Real good movement! I wasn't quite sure if I beat it, I think i got all the blue things but the game just kind of went on. In case I missed one I would have loved some map or something that showed where they all where. Great game nonetheless and fun application of the theme.
WOW.... :open_mouth: I am in awe. I have no words and a tear in my eye. It's SO beautiful and so well done. :cold_sweat:   :sob:
The music is just perfect and so emotional.
I absolutely love this take on the summon theme... and the way you throw and recall the javelin is just SO satisfying.
The art, sound effects, animations, controls, and music are all so cohesive, and just add to the overall experience.
I really really loved being able to play through with a controller too. It felt so good.
This is the top entry IMO. :raised_hands: Congrats on getting 1st place... (my prediction) :trophy:
2024-04-22 21:48
What can I say? This is an incredibly slick jam offering. Very professional polish. The sounds, the animations, and the movement all feel incredibly polished and rich.
2024-04-22 23:16
The physics are absolutely baller. This is one of the games that I desperately want to see be pursued as a full game post-jam
2024-04-22 23:51
Oh look at all the everything! It's all so good. The everything, that is. My only complaint about the whole thing is that the connection to the theme is a bit weak in comparison to the rest of the total package. But just taking it for what it is and for what is presented, this is a triumph. Excellent job!
I had to play twice to understand that the end is not the end. It's just a dead end. :) But it was worth playing twice. I agree with all the comments above. Fantastic game. To summarize my review: I loved everything! Mainly the physics of the rebound, which is often a curse that throws us off the platform, but most of the time it is a great tool for more daring jumps.
Game worthy of becoming something bigger.
It doesn't hurt to dream, right?
Congratulations!
I wish there was a rating for controls and character movement because I would give that 5 stars. I loved the base movement, the jumping felt smooth, but the javelin momentum made the whole experience come together into something really fun.
The game is extremely difficult but very fun as well up to a point because the controls are hard to master. Definitely needs more work on the controls. The graphics, the music and the mood of the game are spectacular. It reminded me of an old game called Knytt Stories. Tremendous job team!
Saying that *this is good* is an understatement! Every aspect is so perfect, and the polishing emphasizes how much care and effort was put into this game - also, not having something like an end screen shows how time was a big constraint, but I'm glad that the team focused on the most **fun**damental parts of the game during the jam! I'm looking forward to seeing what it will look like when it's finished :100:

I really really love this game! Everything is soo good, I loved the music, sounds, pixel art... Congrats and thank you so much for this game <3
This is a super solid entry! I am a sucker for good 2D platformers, and this one checks all my boxes! Super simple mechanic that is easy to understand, and hard but incredibly satisfying to master. I also think the theme's integration into this game's core mechanic is very clever and well done. I do wish that the end was a little more clear, there's a lack of finality to this game caused me to run around for a while looking for more when I reached that final room full of collectibles. However, I understand that 3 days is incredibly short, and there was so much polish put into the character and the existing level design that I can for the most part look past that.
And I haven't even *mentioned* the presentation! The art and music are so well done here, this has got to be one of my highest ratings for each of the graphics, audio, and mood categories for how well it suits this game's atmosphere. Everything came together super well, and I'm very very impressed. Great job, everyone!
So much fun and incredibly polished in every aspect. I'm amazed you can make something this good in 3 days. I would definitely buy a longer version of this game. Amazing job to all of you!
I managed to get a 1:56.24 any% on the speed run version, I might come back to try to crack top 9.
2024-04-24 16:06
This was so good dude! I love the mechanics of the spear, the level design, and the overall vibe. This is probably the most interesting mechanic I've seen all jam and y'all knocked it out of the park! I think I missed a section up top early on and found that climbing with the spear is rather difficult, could just be on purpose that I can't get back up there tho I would have liked to be able to.
Amazing, polished Jam game. Beautiful. Keep developing it into a full product.
2024-04-25 14:53
I love how the spar ricochets and how the impulse of summoning it can both help you and screw you over. The fact that it changes color when you can throw it again is a also a really nice touch. The overall level of polish is insane, by the way! I usually try to come up with areas/ideas that can help improve the game, but here I have nothing to say really. Hope you turn it into a full-scale release!
This game is just absolutely amazing! Incredible work! I'm just in awe

Artwork, mechanics, sfx/music were all top notch. One of the better feeling LD games I've ever played. Was an honest challenge and felt rewarded when I accomplished a difficult jump.

way too good BERRY nice!
I'm stunned this was made in three days, the polish, ambience, and tight controls are all there. It's a simple mechanic explored so tightly. You even have a ready-made combat system built into it. The atmosphere is reat and i love the subtleties of the spear's weight, and the way it pushes you as you catch it, a mechanic in and of itself.
The only CC I'd have had was perhaps a button to brace yourself on impact as having to compensate catching it on a small platform was a little frustrating, and also an option to tone down or remove the delay in camera smoothing, because it gave me a little bit of dizziness.
This is one of the few games I'd 100% say you should absolutely build on, because this already feels like a premium product. Top notch work.

Great game!
The mechanics idea is wonderful and takes difficult platforming to a next level! ...Just the kind if games I tend to play. I can see how this could be too frustrating for many, if you don't like dying alot, but after a while you get used to the mechanics and start inventing ways to overcome obstacles.
Graphics and audio are top notch and the game runs smoothly. If it was longer game there probably would be more of a difficulty curve, now it turned hard pretty quickly. Still I played it 'till the end room.
All in all good polished entry that felt like a complete game.

Hey, I played this on stream (not submitted by you I just wanted to play it!) The mechanic is super fun to get the hang of and has lots of interesting interactions to learn. There was one spiked pit which I spent a while getting into only to find it was empty, but otherwise I really enjoyed it! You can see what happened here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2129902300
This game really wants you to learn different tricks. I liked that you can use javelin in different ways, and learning various interactions is quite fun. And great mood and aesthetics! The game itself was frustrating at times, but I figured it comes with the genre. I think the impulse you get from returning spear could be more consistent, though. It was really hard to predict the back push. Eventually, I got to the end room with some collectibles. At least I think it is the end game, if you believe the soundtrack! Good game :v:
Agree with everyone's praises of the game, amazing overall. My main criticism is about the kickback when the spear comes back to you. It's a fun risky moment when you pull it back and it can push you off an edge and kill you, but I feel like that was 100% of the usages of that mechanic. In other words, it was only used in an annoying way. If it was subtler, or the platforms had more wiggle room, then it could be an interesting and tense mechanic without actually killing you every time. Similarly, the kickback when you jump and pull it back feels very random and often kills you.
2024-04-28 17:26
This was really well done, gameplay was flawless. I only wish there was better feedback with checkpoints and maybe more checkpoints, but thats only because I suck at these games haha. Good job <3

Really polished and fun game, with amazing aestetics! The dynamic javeline looks really good and rotates very cleanly.
I agree with others that the pushback can be a bit annoying and that could perhaps be solved with a tiny bit more polish or/and designing platforming moments early in the game that teach you to work with it and plan for it so you know exactly how to use it to your advantage as the game gets harder.
But all in all a very fluid and beautiful game, I love the color palette and the clean readable and beautiful backgrounds and sprites, and the fluid animation of the main character.
Great work! I hope you continue working on this game, it seems like a really fun game to design for as well.

Awesome work! I really love the spear mechanic, makes the platforming so much more enjoyable. And all the possibilities...! The game feels very polished over all with the varying step sounds, the "spear out of camera" indication, and fading menu music. If anything, it could've used some UI to mark your progress with the crystals. And the ending could've been clarified, as mentioned by others.
One of the best entries this jam for me. Thumbs up for post-jam development.
2024-05-01 16:56
Such a good entry, very hard but could easily be its own standalone game considering the quality! Awesome job!
Wow nice game! Love the overall of the game, it's a game I would love to buy and play on Steam!! The direction where you send the stick is a little bit tricky though, but once you put a possibility to manage the direction, it will be incredible! Please, let me know if you are thinking of developing it for real!

The mechanics are really good without being too difficult, and offer interesting possibilities for future levels.
The pixel art of the scenery and the character are beautiful. I love the music, which sets a peaceful mood.
It's a good game! Congratulations!

Wow, this is pretty sick! (in a nice way :D) Graphics are *gorgeous*, they create a really nice atmosphere, but also the mechanic feels unique, at least I think I didn't see anything like this before! And animations and physics of the javelin seem to be pretty well done. Overall the game feels polished.
The physics of MC being pushed when summoning a javelin --cked me over a few times xD But I don't think it's a bad thing, makes it feel more *real* so to say and creates additional challenge.

This is so ridiculously polished I can't stand it. Ya'll absolutely killed it with this one and I hope you keep on with this project. Extremely unique idea, incredible platforming challenges. My one and only constructive criticism is I think the kickback when the javelin returns is a little too extreme, found myself falling and repeating sections a few more times than I would like from that alone. Overall, huge fan and will be playing this more when I'm done experiencing other projects. Cheers!
The best Jam game I have ever played, hands down. Very clever mechanics (a bit jalous I admit, because I thought about a platformer game with such a mechanic). I hope to see this as a full game in a few years. Huge potential for speedruners !
Bravo

Polished and very satisfying platforming challenges! Also nice graphics and chill soundtrack, and that's a great experience. I like it a lot, thanks.

Congrats on third place!
Hey everyone!
Thanks for playing our game and showing such great support! The positive reception has inspired us to expand it into a full Steam release. We've set up a Discord server to share updates, gather your feedback, and reach out for playtesting as we build more of the game.
If you’re interested in any of that, [here's the Discord link](https://discord.gg/fXCFNjm3wq). See you there!

Awesome game!
I really liked it, so I took some time to try to speedrun it (I'm usually absolutely not a speedrunner ^^).
I found a few tricks and glitch allowing me to do 2 minutes at best in any% with my very imperfect execution...
But I would be really curious to see a video of a less-than-one-minute run, to see what I miss. ( @matterlinx if you are up too ^^)
And I will obvioulsy join the Discord, I definitely want to see a full game with that concept.
Great job guys!
