Hey, the 'Play' button does not load the game. Also, I would reccomend turning down the drums in the music (it's a wee bit loud!) Amazing art style, the graphics look lovely

@arcus Thanks for the feedback! I've just confirmed the 'play' button bug, fixing is on the way, sorry for the lack of… game :p
EDIT: it should work now. Thank you again.
Should be a bit harder in terms of difficulty, but looks and sounds pretty good :)
Ooof beatuful game, I like the lighthouce enhacing bullets mechanic. I think there is a little spelling error at the end where it says "start" instead of stars
I'll upload a new version in the next hours: - Increased difficulty: the bullet enhancement damages the lighthouse a bit (small enough to make it worthwhile in some cases) - Gamepad support (still working on that one) - Also added a small kickback when you shoot, so that you don't have to hurl yourself into enemies while shooting at them. - Fixed some typo (thanks by the way)
EDIT: game updated
Like it! Fun to play and very charming! Maybe add the bullet enhancement damage to the instructions as well, as I was using it extensively and didn't realize.
Great game
Very good game, with a smooth feel! I really enjoyed playing it and the art, music, and sound worked superbly together. I especially liked how the bullet enhancement works as it makes you position your ship more tactically. One thing I found was the enemies only very rarely dropped points so I would've liked to get those more often. I have given this great game a very high rating and am excited to see the results when the Jam ends!
Edit: I edited this post because I came back to look at my feedback comments. I realised I wrote I "would give it a very high rating when the Jam ends" rather than that "I have given this great game a very high rating and am excited to see the results when the Jam ends!" Sorry about that and I hope you weren't confused! All the best!
Super polished game, love it. Both the art and the sound are on point.
When it comes to gameplay, I felt that the progression was either slow or lacking. Felt a bit weird to get to the treasure drops only a while in. What if they came sooner?
I found myself using the lighthouse to proper my shots A LOT, even it I didn't have to do so. It felt fun and more interesting than just using the basic attack. Oh and is this mechanic a reference to The Three-Body Problem  ?
At the end I think I used the lighthouse too much such that it broke down by itself. I got a high score of 10k.
Overall pretty damn good for compo!
Nice overall game presentation, amazing pixel art, especially in the cutscenes and amazing music. The lighthouse felt more in the way than it should and no idea what that score meter in the upper left was about.
This one is all about the soundtrack. Fantastic! It was nostalgic yet still catchy and relevant. I did like the art style too. It had a kind of crayon drawn style which I liked. The game play was average compared to what I've seen so far - not great, but not bad either. Nothing else I can say about it that hasn't already been said. Good job!
I liked the music and the art style!
I like the kickback, it gives you the feeling of shooting with a cannon. I also find great the idea that you can shoot the static light damaging it but having a stronger shoot for the enemies. Great art, a had fun playing it.
The opening sequence is really great, specially how its paired up with the music. I really enjoyed your take on the theme and the shooting mechanics feel lice and smooth as do the enemy AI. The music was also great. Overall great work!
Cute game.
I loved the artstyle and how the game ended.
One of the best I have tried so far, I especially liked the music.
Great music, graphics and controls. Very solid game.
Nice Game. I enjoyed Art and Music a lot. I really like your Interpretation fo the Theme. And the Movement was so smoothe.
Quite fun! The mouse follow movement is always challenging to use, and I like the powerup shot from the lighthouse. Too bad the scoring doesn't work.
I liked the cutscene and its presentation, I'd play a game with a followup of that story :)
Just ... wow The music, graphics, and atmosphere are perfect. For it to be completed in such a short timeframe, i am only able to salute you. Great game
Simple and good attention to detail, I liked the opening and closing sequences. I didnt recieve any score or drops until I was getting overwhelmed towards the end, bug maby?
The game doesnt really get fun until you are forced to use the lighthouse to power up your shots as you start getting overwhelemed, as it is pretty easy to land most shots at maximum fire rate, a hard-limit on your damage output, and there isnt much to do. Once things heat up though, it becomes fun trying to aim while keeping yourself in position.
Nice graphics, fun little game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 46 compilation video series, if you want to take a look. :) https://youtu.be/6SpOkik3XNg
I loved your game so much! Wow! The graphics are awesome, the music and sfx as well, the story telling is so neat! And I love the gameplay and the difficulty curve! You did such a great job, I love it and wasn’t expecting to see that when starting the game! Thank you for sharing your game
I really enjoyed the gameplay. Love tbe graphics too great entry
This is a very well put together game. It is very polished and the gameplay is fun. The art is awesome and fits the game perfectly. What relay got me though was the ending after you lose, I just loved the story you presented in such a small game.
@jupiter-hadley Thank you so much for the feedback! I just noticed on your video that the bigger pirate ships don't shoot their bullets as intended (they play a sound but there should be a spiky ball coming from them). I'm looking into this bug.
EDIT: I've managed to reproduce the bug on web & desktop platforms. Oh and scoring is broken. Nothing game-breaking really, but this is sad.
EDIT2: it's getting weirder. When I export my game to HTML5 without debug it's broken. With debug it works fine, but the program is heavier (and I can't update the game anyway because of the rules).
EDIT3: I've just learned that I can re-upload my game after the deadline for bug fixing. If I can't fix it properly I'll just re-export with debug enabled.
Thanks everyone else for the nice reviews! I'm preparing a postmortem. Main critiques I see is the drop frequency, difficulty/fun balance (boring near the beginning), and the broken scoring.
A bit late, but thanks @malai & @ironygames for noticing the broken score bug.
Bugs have been fixed. This is not against the rules I think. In case it is, I can revert to previous commits (thanks Git!)
I like your lighthouse defence game. Graphics and music are great. :ship:
Great game! I had fun playing it, and the mechanics and story worked well for the theme. The intro and outro scenes are surprisingly polished for a compo entry. I also appreciated secretly being able to use the keyboard :)
@shawn-moore thank you! I didn't bring keyboard controls forward because it's only 8-directional so it might be less playable than on the mouse or an analog stick.
As for the polished cutscenes, I was playing with Godot's animation system in a previous game jam, so I've been able to put them in practice again.
very very beatiful little game, I saw this earlier but decided to play later because there was no screenshot in the page. Was surprised to see how beautiful your game looks. The story part was amazing too. Wish I could do a bit better in it. Btw it worked fine in my windows but in the mac it was very heavy on the browser:

Good game! Nice art, nice sounds!
Awesome story and art! Absolutely loved the ending!
Movement could be keyboard rather than mouse, felt like I have to move in the direction I'm shooting even if I don't want to.
Nonetheless, one of my favourite entries to be sure :)
I was tempted to try your game because of the lovely artstyle but was immediately hooked by the simple yet rewarding gameplay. Very solid game
Will you be working on a larger 2.0 or a sequel?
@kornel I don't really know. Right now I'm optimizing the game a bit, to release v1.1 once the ratings are over.
To extend the game I could do several levels and bosses, extend the narration, maybe an item shop, etc. I could even put an exploration phase after the defense one.
Nice game, I loved the graphics, music and sound FX. I loved how you used lighthouse light radius as health, made it easy to check the health. I wish there was a way to repair the light house.
@monish-vyas one of the rare items the pirates can drop can repair the lighthouse, but most of the time the damage can't be undone. At the beginning of development I made the lighthouse so that it slowly heals. I don't know if this is a good or a bad idea.
Yarr, this be one fine jam entry. They graphics be neat, they music be splendid and the controls to be counted upon.

@lee-reilly thank you so much!
Hi, just highlighting an issue here for MacOS Catalina users, when you launch the game post unzipping, it'll show a message: 'Cannot be opened'. To fix it, just go ahead and right click on it to show package contents, then under the directory MacOS, there'll be a text edit file, which is supposed to be an executable. Go ahead and do a chmod +x for that text edit file, relaunch the game, and you'll be good to go!
Loving the game so far!
