LD42 — Running out of space

Johnny's Flipbook Space Adventure by schizoid2k 2018-08-20T20:39:47Z

Everyone is right, it's quite challenging! But it is compelling too - after losing I keep feeling like I've nearly got it for next time. But then I lose again! If I had to give this game a subtitle or tagline it'd be: "the best defence is a good dodge".

The tearing out of the paper mechanic was a fun addition for the theme, but it felt unfair that the aliens could go right over it.

I also found a little bug when if you crash into a spaceship you lose a life but no cross appears over the icon in the top left.

Well done, it's a nice one to play and the sound effects are very hypnotic and funny too.

I liked the idea but I think twin stick style for controls would work better because it's hard to steer and run away from the ghosts at the same time. Also I feel like I kept getting shocked by the ghosts with no warning.

Housing Crisis Island Wars by piscythe 2018-08-20T20:25:45Z

Pleased to report the Linux build works well on Fedora :penguin:

I got totally caught out by the overpopulation draining crystals which was funny and surprising (I should read the instructions closer). It reminded me a lot of Eufloria which I really liked, but tying in the space constraint in the way you did matches the theme nicely and also speeds up the game quite a bit. The visuals are overall clear and fun, although I didn't realise the big bugs are so much more lethal until they killed all my lil' fishies.

This was definitely fun and held my attention for a few attempts (but I couldn't beat it). Great job!

My #1 feature to add would be a counter for how many fishies you have on an island because I wasn't able to tell whether I had a chance against the bugs or not.

16:9 Micro Shooter by Remi Gourrierec 2018-08-16T20:06:46Z

I love the direction you took the theme. Excellent use of colours and a simple but effective game play. I couldn't work out how to use the turret correctly though.

Dear Leader's Diet Plan by Historymaker118 2018-08-16T20:26:06Z

I couldn't get past level 4, but I really like the idea of the level shrinking and you having to shrink with it. It's a cool take on the theme! I like the sunglasses on the title screen a LOT!

I managed to win! I think! But I thought I had lost at first. This was a fun little puzzle that tied in with the theme in a surprising way at the end.

The levels had some quite clever little tricks which made me feel smart for figuring them out. But the also felt a little bit scripted. Like, if there was a reset to the start of the level when you died, you'd have to slow down and think a little more about the puzzles. But I liked playing it and was glad to win! Just needs some retro sound or glitch-hop or something to accompany.

PS The death animation was great.

*N*X warriors by Stepan Shabalin 2018-08-20T20:53:18Z

Twice I played for a while and it was fun - but it crashed both times. `Attempt to call function 'queue_free' in base 'previously freed instance' on a null instance.` at `res://Scenes/Game.gd:275`. This was running from the source code in Godot on Fedora 27.

I liked the look of the text and boxes (esp. the colour mushing at zoom - not sure if it was deliberate but it suited the theme well). I liked the idea and got very stressed when the virus was at the upper nodes, which made for tricky jumps. It was also very fun sliding down the directory tree when the virus was diagonally down from me. But I have to ask why you kept all your files under the root user?! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

If anyone has failed to load index.wasm it might be because of your adblocker.

I sort of ran out of steam about 2-3 minutes in, but I like the idea. Godot is good, isn't it?

Edge Of Space by Valden 2018-08-16T20:58:45Z

This was great fun, especially when you get the laser!!!!!

Noah's Help! by Ian Kettlewell 2018-08-16T20:40:28Z

I really enjoyed this game. I love the animal artwork and the puzzles are simple and satisfying to solve. I particularly like the puzzles where there are two animals that are chiral but look really similar - great fun to spot the symmetry and work out where to put them.

My suggest would be to add an indicator for which level you're on.

The Lonely Moon by DanCan 2018-08-17T22:14:36Z

Thanks so much to everyone who has played so far. Your feedback is much appreciated - we want to make the game better after voting ends and also make a really good game next jam!

The Lonely Moon by DanCan 2018-08-20T19:59:08Z

@josehzz Thanks for playing. You need to use the W and S keys after selecting the satellite to move it to the green zone, then it will start making money. :smiley_cat:

The Lonely Moon by DanCan 2018-08-21T06:59:06Z

@simplepotential @nerobius I'm sorry that the instructions aren't better. We really wanted to add a tutorial but ran out of time for the jam.

@wrenpirate The reason you can't change trajectory after a while is that they run out of "Delta-V" which roughly corresponds with fuel. You can see the Delta-V fuel gauge in the bottom right of the screen in the info box.

The laser satellites do have too much drag, so they crash unfairly quickly. Sorry about that! Most people lose the first few laser satellites each game - the trick is to wait until just after the rocket detaches and then hold W until your orbit expands, then coast around to the other side and circularise. If you haven't learned that trick from KSP or Orbiter or something then it's pretty impossible to know what to do.

Thanks again to everyone who has played and rated, it looks like a tutorial is the most needed thing for the next version.

Invaded Space by jessifin 2018-08-16T19:50:55Z

Great visuals and music! I love the wrapping screen and the colours. Nice simple play mechanism.

The Death Line by k255 2018-08-16T19:57:48Z

I really like how you have to stay with the rhythm when the screen goes dark! It's very clever and a nice way to recover. I can see that tying into a lot of other genres - like if you fall off a platform you have to recover by hitting space to the music.

Aperature XP by Johan Vischer 2018-08-16T20:49:55Z

This was really funny, I enjoyed it a lot. You should make the background change from day to night to make it seem like time is passing and you've been cleaning up files for a whole day :crescent_moon:

LD44 — Your life is currency

Blockson: My Life as a Cryptocurrency by DanCan 2019-05-12T09:24:02Z

@loveapplegames thanks for playing! You can get more network capability if you chain routers together. Perhaps that wasn't explained very well!

@noodlemaster thanks for playing! we wanted to add the ability to rotate components too, but it turned out to be too much to get everything finished in time :(

Last Stand by KeyurRana 2019-05-12T09:41:28Z

I liked this a lot. I thought I was doing well because I was avoiding the enemies, but realised eventually that I was playing too aggressively with my power, which led to my demise. This has a lot of different stuff going on for a jam game, and I thought it was very impressive.

My only critique is that I eventually found I could put myself in extremely vulnerable positions and the enemies wouldn't bother to shoot at me...
