Quite a cool game! The best part was the intro, I like how you implemented it in the gameplay. Graphics, however, could have been improved a lot.

Quite a cool game! The best part was the intro, I like how you implemented it in the gameplay. Graphics, however, could have been improved a lot.
Wow. The way you handled the intro and outro was really neat, and I like how every section had a slightly different perspective and a different task to complete. It kept the gameplay fresh all the way through. The graphics weren't bad, but the I found the perspective a little bit confusing during the part with the checkerboard walls, and sometimes the character felt a little bit too small and far away. The music was pretty great.
Oh, also I found the title hilarious.
Game is pretty confusing, not sure what to do to survive against the circle guy. I just died at him. Audio is pretty interesting though. Good job!
Cool Concept, I would recommend working on better graphics and controls though
I like the flavor/scenario you've set up, some hapless fellow just trying to go for a run and gets stuck with an alien invasion. I think it'd help if you added some information on what you're supposed to do in each stage, as it can be hard to figure out. Unfortunately, I ran into an issue where the game crashed during the stage with a sphere and red X's.
What a cool introduction!
The game freeze after several attempts in the laser stage (and where do I point the laser in this level?)
Nice concept. The intro is really neat. The music too. What did you use for the music?
Looking forward to see how it will turn out post LD Keep up the good work mate.
@hakro the music is made with an old version of Propellerhead Reason and an even older Yamaha keyboard.
@dunin I added [this walkthrough](https://gist.githubusercontent.com/amras0000/2034bb8db7fc556d4a704a9090cbe62b/raw/9c1dddbee826bd942012c00c9f0803487ac3bdf2/walkthrough) to the description, if you want to give the game another shot.
The concept is really, really interesting, while perfectly fitting the theme. Each level is different and challenging it its own way, and it took me a lot of tries to beat the game, but it was definitively worth it. Good work !
This was a really interesting take on the theme! I really enjoyed the concept and the story implementation. The main issue I find is that it's hard to tell when you're making progress. I think that mainly because the screen shakes when you damage yourself or make progress. More audio or visual indicators would really help I think. Regardless you did a great job, I had a lot of fun with this one!
Unfortunately the game crashes at the end of the third level, but overall its a fun game. It's a neat concept, but I can't score the game fairly. I have to say, the intro was super smooth, I'll give you that.
perfect man, concept perfect
I couldn't understand what to do on the rooftops of the second level, after crossing past the wooden planks. This ruined it for me.
Good and interesting concept. Like the humor used and gameplay. The intro is very pleasant unfortunatly i guess a lil effort on to improve graphics could be nice. Unfortunatly i was also block on the second roof. Didn't know what to do. But that's an interesting start control are ok and gameplay is fun, keep it up pal !
@mike-inprinciple @randdir I did include [a walkthrough](https://gist.githubusercontent.com/amras0000/2034bb8db7fc556d4a704a9090cbe62b/raw/9c1dddbee826bd942012c00c9f0803487ac3bdf2/walkthrough) in the description. Hope that helps you get past the second level.
@randdir yeah, the art isn't my finest work. It would have looked fine if I had time to work on shaders but time constraints took their toll. I wanted to focus on making the game complete and fun to play, so aesthetics took a back seat.
Humorous game with nice gameplay. I really liked the beginning 'screen' that turned out to be a part of the game with 3d credits. Levels are pretty creative and last one is also pretty challenging but rewarding. I like the graphics and 'camera work', the style is pretty slick even if simple. In general it's a fun, short game.
Fun game, I like you incorporated the tutorial into the first level. It is kind of hard to see the runner on the dark part of the road.
The humorous concept of being attacked by aliens while on a stroll for no reason got me! Now while the base gameplay mechanic wasn't very original, the way you added extrinsic mechanics the player has to figure out was pretty cool. I didn't mind the programmer art as it did its job, however I did mind the lack of feedback and cues to tell the player what's happening, as well as the game's overall readability (camera placement, color palette choice, starting as a small, dark thingamajig jogging on a dark tone road, ...). There were a bunch of moments where I couldn't really tell what was happening, if I was doing the right thing or not:
- The first time I was hit was when I thought I could hit the UFO and tried walking through it. This displayed my life bar on top of my head for the first time, and it was so small and unclear that I thought it was an item I took from the UFO and now carrying it. Yeah I know that was stupid 8D
- When firing the laser in the second rooftop part, I couldn't tell if the laser hitting the UFO was the right thing to do because the feedback (screenshake) was the same as when walking over my trail, and the UFO didn't immediately display damage (only when it died after bein hit for a long enough time)
- In the UFO part, I had no idea what to do, besides using the laser beams following me to try and hit stuff, so I tried hitting the glowy ufo-like things on the ground (? not readable :( ) to no avail. It was after a few attempts that I finally understood that I had to hit the red crosses to deal damage, thanks to the health bar at the bottom of the screen, but that was very counter-intuitive (because of the message a red cross symbol carries).
I unfortunately crashed after filling up every cross but the 3 top ones, starting by the leftmost one. The crash happened as soon as I hit it.
I hope my feedback will prove helpful to you! Your game has inventive little concepts within it and besides the unintuitiveness was a joy to play. Good job on making this one alone!
Really interesting idea. It took me until halfway through the second level to realize that I was on Pac-Man controls - the control scheme didn't feel intuitive at all without that knowledge. Each level was its own puzzle with a different objective, but those objectives weren't always easy to discern. It took me many attempts to figure out that I was supposed to turn on the laser, then switch its direction near the UFO to shoot it down, especially as there was no clear visual indicator that this actually damaged the UFO. The final boss at least had the decency to have a healthbar. Also, I frequently died getting stuck on objects that I felt like I shouldn't have. I think a grid map might have improved the controls. Good work!
This was a pretty cool game, and I liked the soundtrack! It was tough to figure out some of the puzzles though, and the controls seemed a little sluggish at times. Overall, great job though!
Nice game, I hope to see more updates and improvments sooner. If you don't bother take a look at our game when we focused on Graphics and visuals and see the results that we got: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/spacelab-42
@amras0000 Music of the game was nice and well suited. Also liked the idea of the game and the way you put on intro in the first level but was pretty confused with the second level ,how to get through it.Graphics needs to be improved a bit more.Do try our game too and share your experience in the comment box.
(Tried both on Windows and Linux, both run fine.)
Quite an experiece! I really love how the 'menu' at the beginning is integrated into the game. Also how you think it's simple at first, but it just keeps on changing on you :-) (The last one was quite tricky for me, as I thpught the crosses where some sort of structural support beam.)
The controls feel decent as long as you don't collide with anything, then they can feel a bit clunky, in that it's sometimes feels harder to get away from a wall than it maybe should be.
It's also not quite clear at first that, while you can't walk over the burning rubble, you _can_ walk over the non-burning craters. While this mechanic is a neat bit of game-design in it's own right, I think it can be signposted better. Maybe make the fire more clear?
The humour through environmental story-telling is very well done, especially in how the slightly dissonant music makes it all feel like the comedy of errors which it is.
You could maybe add some SFX to the screenshake?
I had a great time trying to out-jog the enemies (that reminds me, I should start my own run soon in real life...)
@remco there's no mechanical distinction between burning and non-burning rubble. You can travel over both and both hurt you equally. Walls being sticky was an issue I tried for a long time to fix but ultimately had to give it up to meet the deadline. Thanks for the in-depth feedback!
Nice game, would have liked the volume to start a bit lower :)
Graphics is definitely the weaker side, but the gameplay is pretty good(tho it's a bit misleading). Besides, the music suits very well too.Nice job :)
First of all... Ow my ears :stuck_out_tongue: Wasn't expecting that when I opened it up, although that being said, the music was great! The gameplay is a bit strange and it may be because of the controls. In a game where you move around, you sort of expect to hold down the keys, by only tapping the direction I got stuck on walls quite a bit more than I usually would have. The drastic camera angle changes between each level also felt a bit odd as the graphics being fairly minimal suffered from either being too small or too big. Overall fairly solid and the premise is very comical, grat job
Nice game! interesting graphics
