LD35 — Shapeshift

Shift the Shapes by Larzan 2016-04-19T17:42:00

very nice puzzle, and a pretty game! like you said, some ambient tune would be nice. something broke past level 11. I would also put level 4 further as it feels harder than numbers 5-9 -- but perhaps that's my mind's limitation. I definitely had a great time playing this game!

Fuck you it's the same thing as last year by xgeovanni 2016-04-18T01:25:00

short and meaningful, I like it! played it 3 times already.
reminds me of unix wargames.

Günther's Abduction by franklyn 2016-04-20T00:50:00

the music is great, game is quite pleasant (reminds me of "abuse"). field of view is sweet, and the controls are comfortable. only the graphics could be more homogenous, and the levels a bit richer?

Another Dimension by pikmin4000 2016-04-18T14:44:00

I like the tune and the "eschatological" mood. but the controls are horrible!

Tetrift by bradleypollard 2016-04-18T02:22:00

at first I hated it, but the magic of falling tetrinos made me spend quite a few minutes. Unfortunately no higher than 19. sometimes it's hard to tell where the row should end, perhaps add some tetrion boundaries? I like the gfx&sfx.

Shift by CoderDozer 2016-04-22T00:18:00

It is a nice game. I like the tempo, and how abstract things are. I also found the tune very moody. The graphics was pleasant, especialy the green clues on yellow -- lovely! Only the bolts/fire/whatever didn't feel to fit the style (perhaps they could be discs/triangles?). I would love to see more levels.

Shamanic Panic by panurge 2016-04-19T23:35:00

I just love what happens with his hands when he's about to jump :)

Soko Match by francoisvn 2016-04-18T02:39:00

the game is very pleasant to interact with! eveything is so smooth, and the colors are tasty!

Mountain by guoboism 2016-04-18T22:25:00

dear author, please check out our cries here :) I'm also curious to see the game in action! bookmarked, will be back soon...

Heavy Water by Kep 2016-04-18T22:23:00

404: Not Found!

Heavy Water by Kep 2016-04-22T14:30:00

hi, it's still not there...
the itch.io doesn't find it https://itch.io/search?q=heavy+water -- to check if it's really published just try to access it without being logged in (incognito mode or other brower) -- then you will be sure; good luck, looking to see this one :)

Temple Shifters by sftrabbit 2016-04-18T21:38:00

I can't run it :( the browser keeps complaining:
GET http://josephmansfield.uk/TempleShifters/phaser.map 404 (Not Found) -- will definitely be back here. the music I can hear is awesome!

Temple Shifters by sftrabbit 2016-04-18T21:49:00

okay, this is probably some chromium issue; got it working on opera!

Temple Shifters by sftrabbit 2016-04-18T22:10:00

That was amazing! I love sokobanish puzzles; 5/5 on every aspect! If I had a limited number of tries I would have to spend much more time; some puzzles were quite tricky; I await full version with more levels :)

Temple Shifters by sftrabbit 2016-04-18T22:11:00

ps also I love the way the game explains itself with initial levels. sooo cool!

In/Out Of Shape by Gabe 2016-04-18T02:17:00

Hehehe it's more frustrating than Montezuma's Revenge on C64 :)
I'd like it to have some "get ready" information just to let me know I't another try.
And perhaps I'm just impatient, but I thought it would be awesome to be able to choose difficulty level, with at least one second more for noobs like me...

[SHIFTED] by Ampera 2016-04-18T23:34:00

I like the mood, and like text adventures; go to level 3 with 1590 and then after I go south there's nothing I can do... The engine seems buggy (running on java7, debian) -- some descriptions are too long, and not wrapped. As of controls, I see two possibilities: either display all the possible commands (so that I don't need to write "help" every time), or use some synonyms like (walk|go to|go) (pick|pick up|take) etc. Ofc this might take a lot of times, so you should have these prepared in your codebase. Anyway props for text adventure, and kudos for writing your engine. This is really hard (I work at nlp startup). Perhaps take a look at ifocom's ZIL engine to look for inspiration. I really got hooked, only the technical issues put me off. Good luck!

[SHIFTED] by Ampera 2016-04-18T23:36:00

PS "some descriptions are too long" -- I mean, they don't fit the screen, not that the prose is too abundant :)

(Mono no) Aware by ThommazK 2016-05-05T21:53:00

truly a work of art... incredible mood! this is great.

Shape-Shift Dungeon by laluis1 2016-04-18T20:04:00

why did you comment out the menuSong.mp3?! it's _awesome_! I love the graphics as well. I played the game for 30min (didn't realize it took so long); still get killed few seconds after the hero turns dark, but there's something which makes me wanna try again. I'm a big fan of r-type though. anyway, it's VERY NICE!

Shape-Shift Dungeon by laluis1 2016-04-18T20:11:00

ps I also admire the simplicity of your code; this game is almost a trick! very, very nice.
and I like how smoothe the controls are. overall 5/5, even though there's no status box or anything -- who cares?
Fantastic.

aucguy by aucguy 2016-04-18T19:38:00

that's not my type of games, but after a while I got what's going on. perhaps some more feedback from the ui would make it easier to grasp (like "sweet" in candycrush ;)). I love the background, it's beautiful! I wish all shapes had a little transparency. the audio I disliked -- seeing these beautiful shapes I'd like to hear some sine waves.

Shift Dungeon by shellbot 2016-04-18T19:48:00

what a crazy idea! I like it, however got bored after 3rd level -- I think it might go a bit faster (or maybe some buttons to alter the tempo).

Tetroidvania by gelisam 2016-04-23T16:30:00

WHAT A RELIEF!!! finally cleared the 4 rows (I used to be a tetris addict, I really had to finish this one).
This game I found purely awesome! The enoyability of games is surely not a linear order, but you sir did a neat LUB of every puzzle game I've seen so far (also outside of LD I think).
I love you sense of humor -- the mashup title, the chiptune version of "worship the glitch" soundtrack, the way you have composed the puzzles.
The only two things (and I really don't care about them, just mention to limit the buttlicking tone of this comment) are the subjective taste-crap: (1) the sound loop could be perhaps a bit longer, (2) the graphics could have less colors (an 8bit pallette perhaps?).
But WHO CARES, I can't write anything else as I want to play it again. if I could I'd give this one overall 6/5.

ps you did it in elm, didn't you? The tools used should not influence the game's reception, but somehow it's a cherry on this delicious pie.

Soundscape (Find the Light) by johnbrynte 2016-04-25T02:46:00

wow! what an original and beautiful game... the footsteps are awesome, like from tarkowski's movie; however it's quite hard. sometimes the sounds, lower pitched, don't mean light, right? also the space to explore seems to be big and mostly empty? I hard to tell, despite headphones :) found 2 lights so far... anyway a strong 5 for mood, audio and innovation.

OBfu by zowesiouff 2016-04-21T22:05:00

stuck on level 6 too... this game is sick ;) but very pretty.

Can't Drive This - #cantdrivethis by pixel_maniacs 2016-05-03T17:13:00

wow, fantastic! (very hard for a single player). great game, 5/5

you must save by jacobturn 2016-04-23T00:16:00

nice. quite hard (took few tries to win); the few last rooms (the ones with yellow big rectangles) could be harder (maybe some red ones as in previous rooms?). anyway, thanks!

Shapescape by AlexLamarche 2016-04-21T23:20:00

very strange! at first I felt almost offended by the rules, but it turned out to be not that easy :) and I liked the tune, very hypnotising.

Ghost Bird by torcado 2016-04-24T07:21:00

a bit hard, but sooo beautiful! props

SPELLDOWN! by pixelpotions 2016-04-21T22:11:00

this is very pretty, and the kitten is so cute :)

Shape Soup by jeroenwimmers 2016-04-19T14:34:00

great graphics, great sounds; i think i won it (everything stoped and turned into circles?)
the idea reminds certain eye-hand coordination test (you know, light pen, conduct dot trough a maze or sth). very well done!

You're a Floor Lamp Now by blinry 2016-04-18T21:06:00

wow! turns out it's not that easy :) sounds are lovely, and waiting in the dim room for the mouse to come is surprisingly pleasant.

The Wewelsburg Experiment by BubsyPoochies 2016-04-22T14:26:00

occult third reich + joyful chiptune -- simply NICE. incredibly funny and good looking; reminds me of rick dangerous.

Cataway by justacookie 2016-04-22T00:24:00

wow! very funny use of the theme, and sooo cute gfx! would love to hear some music (even a silly short loop).

Shifty Seamus by BlennosoftGames 2016-04-18T15:23:00

haha, I won :) I wish there were more levels. The only thing I disliked was the graphics -- could be more homogeneous (ie the tiles and background should be drawn in the same style as the protagonist). And you did it with ~500lines of code including the levels, respect!

Helium-4 by mountainstorm 2016-04-18T02:32:00

the idea is witty, and the game is very aesthetic; It's very nice to look at; but it feels more like a triptoy/eyecandy than a game... the interactions are rather chaotic, though escaping photon (or any other small-and-fast thing) blew my mind!

Dustin Finamore by fin_nolimit 2016-04-23T00:00:00

really nice graphics, Jasmine rocks! the tune is trippy, as well as levels design; the controls are smooth, but sometimes I wasn't able to shrink by hitting the floor... anyway a nice game, would like to see more levels.

The 3 Rules of 2-Color Shapeshiftin' in a Microworld on a Flickering Torus by theOnlyGoodDrcz 2016-04-18T23:57:00

Wow, thanks for very encouraging feedback! I do undestand that the flickering is annoying -- but the game is set on a flickering torus, so it just has to flicker ; (it flickers at ~7Hz, which is not a coincidence).
I consider writing "The 3 Rules of 2-Color Shapeshiftin' in a Microworld on a Non-Flickering Torus" some day (should take about 48h :)).

@TLansdale -- the unshift machine is now sad because you thought it's a monster! to see the rules just press F1 or h :)

The 3 Rules of 2-Color Shapeshiftin' in a Microworld on a Flickering Torus by theOnlyGoodDrcz 2016-04-20T21:44:00

wow, I got an email from biz.nf that they have removed my account... just created github page, updated the link. sorry, I didn't expect the spanish inquisition.

Black Heart by luquio 2016-04-18T20:35:00

whoa, played on pc, it's awesome! I love the look and the sounds. I love how it shakes when I mismatch the shape... I will definitely try this game on drugs. 5/5! ps maybe that's the point but I found it very dificult to avoid black hearts because the small squares are also black. but anyway, it's great game, and hypnotizing like hexagon!

Block Shift by Templar3lf 2016-04-18T17:57:00

score 81... it reminds me of a repetitive nightmare I had as a kid, that I'm running home and trying to hold my toys in both hands but they are sliping and falling down. that's the kind of feeling I had playing. The look (esp colors) is awesome.

Flipsy Shapes by Persimonn Pomelo 2016-04-21T22:20:00

zen mode is pleasant :)

Make your Queen happy by Rafos Games 2016-04-19T00:33:00

aaaa somebody stop this! pretty cruel, but cute as well :)

ShifterSpy by Asunoz 2016-05-02T23:04:00

I really don't follow what's going on, but the graphics are awesome!
