LD35 — Shapeshift

Günther's Abduction by franklyn 2016-04-18T02:32:00

I really, really liked this. The music is great -- 5-stars there! I love the baroque/harpsichord sound of it. Mood is actually very good, too. Feels quite eerie. Quite frankly, the weapon transforming the player as backlash is awesome, too. Graphics are whatever, but overall I like it a lot.

Arnold Stallion's Pump or Die by arzi 2016-04-19T21:46:00

Very funny! It was a bit fun to play, too. It would have been much more so if it had just a few more moves.

Abyssal Dream by esayitch 2016-04-20T12:22:00

The controls and juiciness are missing. Those are pretty hard to come by, though. Overall you guys did a great job.

The Time Shifter by Julgodis 2016-04-18T03:45:00

I had a hard time playing this game, because the controls felt really weird. There needed to be something explaining to hit enter key, I basically tried bashing on random keys when the first guy talked to me. Then after that, I realized I could move. Then I'm immediately altering space-time. It's very confusing.

Shift 'n Drift by LandoSystems 2016-04-19T04:05:00

Fairly huge team, but the game is fun. The puzzles are reasonably hard. Actually, the game design is probably my favorite aspect, because it is actually fun. One of the best interpretations of theme in LD out of about 40 I've played so far. In this game, the game mechanics literally depend on your shape itself. Since that is the case, you really killed it on theme. Honestly, in doing so I believe you deserve 5-star for innovation, as well. Overall, the qualities of the game that matter to me are all well-delivered.

A82-Recon 3038 by Geti 2016-04-19T03:46:00

I enjoyed it. On some level it reminded me of a game from my childhood called Alien Syndrome. Very nice!

A82-Recon 3038 by Geti 2016-04-19T03:50:00

BTW, I also managed to get the runtime error that wg_phancock got. I often try to beat the games that are posted, but the crash possibly kept me from doing so.

Transformagician by HuvaaKoodia 2016-04-18T02:22:00

I feel like this could develop into a cool puzzle game. Seriously, I might buy this is you put some real time into developing it - I love puzzle games! This one probably needs some real man hours to get really fleshed out, though. I really enjoyed. I'm giving you almost full-stars except for humor. To me it seems that you probably should just flag it N/A, but I'm not sure so I put 1-star.

PowerShift: The People's Republic of United Democristan by nintendoeats 2016-04-18T21:16:00

I was able to play through it and flee offshore very easily. Thanks for making a guidebook. Very thorough game in all area other than graphics. Audio was great and helped the mood score. Good job!

Butterfly by dtap 2016-04-18T14:02:00

Very difficult to play game, but I think it's quite different than most games. Kind of more like the Sims. I'm glad you made something like this.

Temple Shifters by sftrabbit 2016-04-18T21:06:00

I like puzzles, but the puzzles were really easy. I liked the FFV style graphics. Music was good enough to set the mood. Overall, good job!

Slithering by Coal 2016-04-18T03:03:00

Both funny and sad at the same time. Great artwork.

anthropomorphic suspect by dunin 2016-04-18T14:11:00

Very charming little puzzle game. Good in pretty much all ways. You put quite a bit into the story. Good job!

CubeShift by JangoBrick 2016-04-18T10:57:00

Very fun game. Good audio sets the mood.

CHORUS by Pantelis Petsopoulos 2016-04-18T21:29:00

36,300 - first try on hard. I actually thought the music was very basic and droning for a game based entirely on music. Overall it was a good game, but the music could have had more rhythmic elements lined up with the beats of the shapes. There seemed to be no musical cohesion between the music and the shapes. Good idea, though.

Shapeshifter on the Run by Vantaug 2016-04-18T02:45:00

Endless runner. Not my favorite. However, you are a very talented artist!

SHAPE☆SHIFT by KaiClavier 2016-04-25T11:26:00

Jumping is very floaty. Graphics are beautiful.

Biscuit Switch by retrogradeorbit 2016-04-18T11:18:00

Good start. I think it's missing something in terms of fun. I think Cerno_b has a good idea. I'd probably enjoy it if it had that modification.

Altered Beard by gillenew 2016-04-19T03:58:00

I enjoyed it. Old school style. Also, the player reminds me of a physics professor I had, which is a plus. I think it has some humor to it, too.

Land of the Dead by Mathieu Muller 2016-04-25T11:14:00

Felt like it could be a rogue-like at some point. Good start.

Posthistoric Ooze by hunttis 2016-04-18T11:10:00

Overall, very, very good game. I enjoy puzzle games myself, so the fun factor was there for me. I like that you can speed it up, because once you solve the puzzle it becomes boring. Good game play idea there. Audio fits. Graphics fit the concept well. Story line sets the mood. Great job!

The Transmogrifier by Hjalte500 2016-04-25T11:23:00

It has potential for sale at some point. Needs more polish, but good start.

Holy Order of the Inquisition by MattThePie 2016-05-02T12:42:00

Man, this is impressive. Good stuff. It's actually the first game on here I played that actually had werewolves, which blows my mind. Music was really excellent! Great mood! Really 5-stars there. You did a ton.

Quadra by bjorn 2016-05-02T12:17:00

I enjoyed the game. It's good. I don't think it really pushed any innovation in the theme department, though I do think the theme was kinda crap honestly. As a game, it's good.

I Want My Dragon by Bobsleigh 2016-05-02T12:21:00

Good job. You finished a game!

"Wizard Prototype" - Unfinished- by SinclairStrange 2016-04-19T11:51:00

Amazing content. Would have been cool to see the code for this one, sad. :-( More importantly, the feel of the game was a bit lacking for the jam level. Also, the game wasn't very innovative for the java level either. I would have liked it to feel more juicy. Much, much better than I could do, but I'm just speaking in general. It's missing the juice.

Cube Shift by TriSquare 2016-05-02T12:28:00

Worked for me on Firefox.

Labyrinth Spread by mrploszaj 2016-05-02T12:24:00

Seems quite promising as maybe a rogue-like.

Were with Awwww by UncleChris 2016-05-02T12:37:00

You did a lot of artwork, good job!

Beach Bods by Rulrite 2016-04-23T21:57:00

Audio is really excellent.

The Night Shift by silkworm_sweatshop 2016-04-19T21:35:00

I thought the controls were good. I had no problem with them at all. Everything seemed completely responsive to me.

Who Let The Chicks Out? by jdmazz 2016-04-18T01:34:00

I didn't use a grid system. I used vertex snapping. In Unity this is hold down the V key. When you slice up a sprite sheet, you can pick where it is sliced. I will add the source code now. I have a github account.

Who Let The Chicks Out? by jdmazz 2016-04-18T03:13:00

It seems like a lot of people didn't like me using space bar for jump and would have preferred to have that and the W key and possibly another key. Lesson learned. I'll try to keep good controls in mind for the future LDs. Thanks for the constructive criticism.

Who Let The Chicks Out? by jdmazz 2016-04-18T21:40:00

This is Chicken Souls! Damn. I wish I had named it that.

Legend of the Bucca by A Little Red Panda 2016-04-18T14:22:00

Art is phenomenal -- really can't do any better there. Mood is great and you're so good at art you managed to convey mood, which is unbelievable to me. No theme and music, so I have to penalize there. Really amazing otherwise. You should try to add some audio IMHO. Good story.

The Great Leap by Louspirit 2016-05-02T12:35:00

Excellent atmosphere. You guys seems like pros! Unreal is a bit overkill (huge download) for this and the first cross you have to jump on is annoying. You have to wait too long for it. Make it move faster. The game has great potential, just poor level design.

Henkan Pachinko by AnaGF 2016-04-18T21:37:00

Music was quite good. Background art was good. I actually enjoyed the game. I did want more levels, but it's LD, so I understand. Really, if problem is that four levels isn't enough, that's a good sign IMHO. I actually think it was max fun.

The Incredible Tweene by Geck0 2016-04-23T22:11:00

You did a pretty good job considering all that went wrong. It has decent fun potential for me. If you had an artist to help, this would have probably been amazing.

MISCEO by crisp 2016-04-18T11:07:00

I think you did a great job! My wife would love this game. Something tells me you're a biology student/Phd or something... :-)

Ward 52: Bullet Hell by Mithreindeir 2016-04-18T02:23:00

Shit. I'm excited to try this when you get the link up.

Little George and the black hats by swellbastion 2016-04-18T03:01:00

Why must these mind flayers, in 3-piece suits and capes, keep shooting me dead? Why? Pretty good game, but damn hard. :-)

TRUMP: Political Shapeshifter by Brice 2016-04-18T03:25:00

Your game is amazing. jdmazz supports this message.

Chill Out! by Scoff Studios 2016-04-23T22:03:00

Shame it didn't have any sound. Great artwork, though.

Minimalistic Shifter by mukult 2016-04-18T03:06:00

This is a very innovative game.

Infinite shifter by Martins 2016-04-18T03:40:00

Very innovative. I enjoyed it.

Chrysalide by Pierre 2016-04-18T14:07:00

Actually, I think this game succeeds in most categories. The controls are definitely weird; I had the same problem with my game. :-) My favorite part is the Audio and Mood, which I give you 5-stars for -- very modern serious music. Also, the art is great. All around, great job!

KAIJU VS by plko 2016-04-22T00:15:00

In the end, I spawned a copy of my kaijumon and killed my other kaijumon. Great job overall! What you could have done to easily make this 10x better, though...generate a random number influenced from text and pick from a switch statement some reaction from the kaiju. Then it instantly feels like somethings actually happening rather than just numbers going up randomly. Ex: "I love you, jdmazz!" My kaiju was named after me. :-) Then it would say, "I feel happy!" or "I'm hungry" or something random like that. It would instantly be the same level as Neopets. :-P

The 3 Rules of 2-Color Shapeshiftin' in a Microworld on a Flickering Torus by theOnlyGoodDrcz 2016-04-18T02:52:00

Definitely the best entry I've seen so far. Pretty much maxed out on innovative, fun, theme, graphics, audio and mood. Graphics are actually perfect for this game. Music with each movement feels so cool. Honestly, if it were up to me, you would like be the winner of Ludum Dare. Though it's very early in my voting, it's hard to imagine that someone could top your entry. Amazing!

Pong by cornand34 2016-04-18T03:58:00

cornand34, it's extremely difficult to complete a game, as I just learned myself. I personally wish I had an AI plugin, I had to write a few scripts to pretend at AI myself.

By-the-way, I'm a beginner myself, but I added the source code to my project as per your request.

https://github.com/jdmazz/LD35_WhoLetTheChicksOut

That being said, it's much easier to just find a good tutorial online. Also, pretty much every question I had for my game, someone already asked it on the Unity forums. After that, listen to the Debugger. And use the hotkey "'" if you use Monodevelop, so you can see the documentation. That was all the advice I can muster right now. Time for sleep.

Poly Shape by pabloruizroldan 2016-04-18T02:09:00

The controls felt unresponsive to me. I liked that you stuck to the them, but there wasn't much going on.

Black Heart by luquio 2016-04-18T03:29:00

Very fun game. Good job!

InfinityDrop by EpiFouloux 2016-04-20T12:19:00

I think this is an extremely good game. It's both innovative and fun. I don't care much about graphics, so that won't affect your overall score with me. Audio was great. There's nothing wrong with the controls at all. Actually, I think the rotation makes it harder to win, which is good. Good job!

Papyrogami by Trickman 2016-04-19T03:42:00

I actually enjoyed playing it. I feel like it would be better with designed levels than a rogue-like, because it's a puzzle game. There's no sense in progressing towards more difficult puzzles. Well, if you can accomplish that procedurally, then that would be great, actually!

Shape Tycoon by ThePaperPilot 2016-04-18T03:10:00

Love the music! I think this is rather strange, but somehow works. I like it a lot!

MouseBunRoo by AscendedLudumDare 2016-04-18T14:16:00

Hah! My wife actually came up with my theme, too! Sadly, I couldn't get the web one to work. Art is smooth and stylish. I wish you did some music, because it really affects mood to be honest. I myself spent time playing piano, etc. because I thought no way I'm conveying mood without it. I say go for some music next time and you will have something very nice.

Liborio the Shapemancer by MightyToastStudio 2016-04-20T12:32:00

Loved it! Only issue is that it can be hard to shift and the humans in particular can fall on you and block you into a corner. If you fix those minor control issues and build out the game, etc., I'd be willing to buy it. I really do like it. Try to come up with some more variety in puzzles. I myself enjoy some difficult ones, but some people complain about it. Anyway, great job!

Quadripartitus by Phantom Lab 2016-04-18T02:41:00

Very impressive amount of work you accomplished! Your skill level at making games is great, but honestly I didn't find this fun or innovative. Very sluggish controls. Still, you did amazing work for 48 hours.

Do Robots Dream About Yoga? by MementoGames 2016-04-22T00:28:00

The fact is, this is really fun! There are two games I've played that I'd actually buy. This is one of them. :-)

Shape Shifts by htspencer88 2016-04-18T02:16:00

This actually felt kind of innovative in it's minimalism. Very interesting. And I actually feel like it has a cold feeling/mood to it, as well. Good job!

LD38 — A Small World

The Burrow by Stending 2017-05-17T00:00:42Z

I thought this was perfect for the theme, and the mood was great. I overall liked the artwork and the music. For such a simple no pressure exploration game, it was pretty fun. The end confused me until it zoomed out which was a nice feeling.

Solitary Freedom by CMLSC 2017-05-16T23:21:55Z

I liked the game. I thought the pixel art was very good. I cannot believe you used paint for it given the quality. The game was short but a fun little puzzler. I was not sure of the falling mechanic so something that explained that would be helpful I think.

Damn it, Don't Die! by RafaelSPBarbosa 2017-05-16T00:56:13Z

The amount of assets you put into the game is impressive. I thought the hamsters killing themselves was a nice touch once I realized what was going on. I'm impressed with the 3d asset usage.

Cardboard Cats Online by Ilseroth 2017-05-01T03:36:06Z

This ran perfectly fine for me, I was with Ilseroth. I'm really impressed with both the visuals, the animations, and the modeling. Admittedly I wanted a jump option so I could jump all over the furniture, that being said, for Ludum Dare, this is super high end.

Invasion - The Chronicle by Kappa.B 2017-05-01T02:43:12Z

It took me starting over and reading the prompts to understand you rapidly bash number keys. It is fun and I can see a gem of a planet defending game lying at it's core.

Communitas by hbocao 2017-05-03T03:07:21Z

I think the game is cool but I think the quality of the city you are working on should influence the build times. It is cool that it is a collaborative city builder as you do not often see that.

Battle Ham' by BouDeSit 2017-05-09T11:20:45Z

It is a cute little game with hamsters that has a winning condition and basic game play. That being said, there needs to be cost shown somewhere as well as attack power, defense, and remaining health of unit. Overall this is a cool little entry, you have successfully made a game in 2 days and it is fun. Congratulations.

SLINGSHOOT by chaoclypse 2017-05-01T02:33:36Z

This is really good. Simple enjoyable concept, with fun gameplay. I feeling of progression with the high score, inclusion of meteors and new aliens. Your artwork is top notch.

Small Survival by Fengol 2017-05-01T02:15:56Z

I'm assuming you didn't finish given that I cannot find uses for the stone or wood. That being said, it seems like it could be a fun tower defense kinda survival game once its fully implemented.

El Escubo's Key Quest by jellonator00 2017-05-16T01:11:10Z

Fun game. I played to get the key and it had enough gameplay to keep me going the whole time. Overall very good.

Haven - The Small World by Iluvatar 2017-05-09T11:10:52Z

This game is pretty awesome for being made during Ludum Dare. True it is short, but it shows a good level of polish in a short time. If you kept the pace for one year, you would have a full adventure game on your hands.

The End and the Beginning by Zitao YE 2017-05-01T02:09:29Z

I was a little confused with shooting until I realized you are supposed to just hold down the mouse click. The message of the game was a little confusing as well. It seemed it was about mindlessly killing, then it had some quote about the Holocaust. Regardless the elements of a game are here, and it was fun to play. I tried playing without killing anyone and just hitting the pads, but the boss tank sat on it. Once I killed him the game reloaded from the start.

Time Loop by wellingtonbecker 2017-05-16T23:39:51Z

I thought this was a fun little platformer. I liked the time loop that you had to quickly break out of. I thought the zooming in was a little annoying but the shortness of the stages allow you to avoid that with speed.

Violent Goat by Pixelcode 2017-05-01T02:29:16Z

This was pretty good. I thought why is there a shoot button for the goat. Next thing you know a little text thing saying exactly that. Liked the humor.

Tiny Colonies by PhyscoKillerMonkey 2017-05-17T00:15:17Z

I liked the pixelated element. There wasn't really a goal that I noticed, but it was fun discovering how to optimize the development of the world.

A World In Her Eye by OrbitalBlueprint 2017-05-01T03:05:06Z

I really like the options on this one. The timing seems a little too aggressive on your first playthough. I barely had enough time after doing everything wrong. I slept in, missed the planet. Took too long, became stranded on the planet. Took too long again but became stranded with an active robot. This is really good and has a lot of moving parts for Ludum Dare. Good job!

Conquery - Conquer The World! by Tanay 2017-05-03T02:14:17Z

I like the game. It is fun and the mechanic of capturing planets and luring enemies into them is unique.

Island Guard by AnayK 2017-05-03T02:21:31Z

This is a fun little game. Island fits with the theme, gameplay is cool. I like how there is a little spinny animation when you move the little tank. I liked the power ups as well. I think the feature I'd most like to see is a progression system, maybe like tower defense-esc to provide a persistent benefit to killing dudes and a layer of strategy.

SheetAdventure by DMIT 2017-05-16T23:32:25Z

I had a hard time getting out of the first room at first. It was difficult for me to get a handle on the mining and systems. Eventually I got the hang of it, I had fun. This was a fun little entry for Ludum Dare.

Big Ship on a Small World by Samcam 2017-05-01T03:13:30Z

It was interesting, it was like a storybook where you can choose the dialogue but the overall adventure is the same. The dialogue still is fun though!

SmallWorld by arg410 2017-05-01T02:21:28Z

Took me a moment to figure out how to collect bits. Once I saw the controls it was straightforward from there.Keeping the planet alive as long as possible can be fun.

Song of Fungus by DGSpitzer 2017-05-03T03:00:17Z

This whole game is awesome. It feels very good start to finish. Puzzles and display are professional.

Run the World! by Monty 2017-05-16T23:47:12Z

This brought me flashbacks of outrun. I really enjoyed this. You should do that space motorcycle one next. Overall the game is good, the progression is there and I played it for a bit. I got a little confused with the placement of the cars on the road as the road spins around but it was still fun regardless.

5-Minute Civilization by Stevie Bushman 2017-05-16T00:37:57Z

I thought this was genuinely fun and you made a real game, that had customization options for the initial scenario. You build multiple fun systems in a short time and I noticed no real bugs. Good job!

Tiny World, Big Defender by Selver 2017-05-16T00:45:20Z

I thought the game was fun. It was pretty old school and what I thought was most interesting was that the bullets are physical objects, which was a bit unexpected but it was kinda interesting pushing them through space.

King of Tiny Mountain by malec2b 2017-05-16T00:30:50Z

I had a really hard time determining the depth of the objects. I could still figure it out once experimenting but still was a little bit frustrating. As for the general gameplay, it was fun, and you could figure out the game through experimentation, without it telling you how to win or the point. I disliked the always firing mechanic as it made an annoying noise and I felt like I moved too slow. All of these are minor and I enjoyed the ability to try your game.
