cornand34, it's extremely difficult to complete a game, as I just learned myself. I personally wish I had an AI plugin, I had to write a few scripts to pretend at AI myself.

By-the-way, I'm a beginner myself, but I added the source code to my project as per your request.

That being said, it's much easier to just find a good tutorial online. Also, pretty much every question I had for my game, someone already asked it on the Unity forums. After that, listen to the Debugger. And use the hotkey "'" if you use Monodevelop, so you can see the documentation. That was all the advice I can muster right now. Time for sleep.

ow thanks for the response man :)

the grandfather of games

dooskington 2016-04-18 17:11

Jeez, 44 Megabytes for pong?

Anyway, I didn't see any paddles, so I couldn't play. The ball just bounced around the screen.

cornand34 2016-04-18 17:17

Hmmm may i know your screen resolution Dooskington, i myself played the game on 16:9(1920x1080) and it worked fine

cornand34 2016-04-18 17:18

On a sidenote, i could have decreased the size i learned, the textures we're actually just 3kb altogether(fits the 2 colors theme quite well i geuss xD)

Tip: remove the PDB files from the build and reupload, it will be much smaller that way, they're only there for debug.

And keep practicing! I'll be waiting to play your next LD game in a few months.

You made a game in 48 hours, that's pretty bloody amazing in anybody's book! I also bit off more than I could chew with my original design and all the final actual gameplay was thrown together in the last 6 or 7 hours. Yours is one of the few games where I've actually downloaded the source because I want to see exactly what you did to get those lines :) And I enjoyed it a lot more than I have a few other entries where everything apparently went according to plan.

Hi there, Tried to run the game but no paddles appear. tried both windowed and full screen but can't currently play it.

designernap 2016-04-18 18:46

Hi there. 1600X900 on my Alienware laptop from about years ago. I also just tried it on my desktop PC at 1920X1080 and had the same result. Both PC's running Windows 7.

Great for being inexperienced unity user! And alos a fun little twist on the theme! Great work man.

tanis 2016-04-18 18:59

You should really export your game allowing for 16:9 resolutions only. If you play at 1024x768 which is the default you can't see the paddles.

I might have missed something, but is there anything that shapeshifts?

cornand34 2016-04-18 19:02

no, theme is actually turned off cause my original idea failed

pythong 2016-04-18 19:02

since you used Unity, you could also export a file for web, linux and OSX pretty easily
also, making a simple AI for pong is actually not that hard, but I can understand you didn't have the time / resource to do it :/ unity can be a hassle to understand, and ppl won't like the filesize and bloatyness of Unity, but well, everyone starts small at some point :)

cornand34 2016-04-18 19:10

Next time i will put a web version on my portfolio :) i think that makes the game alot easier to play for most people.

hempuli 2016-04-18 20:42

A very good way of learning Unity3D :) My high-score was 26.

tanis 2016-04-18 20:57

@cornand34 you're welcome! I'm lad my tip has been useful! :D

pellanor 2016-04-18 22:06

Looking forward to seeing what you do for LD36 :)

jamesc554544 2016-04-19 00:37

Boringgggggggg

darkroky10 2016-04-19 10:46

My first Ludum Dare too, and i know how hard Unity is at start, so i really appreciate your work. Don't give up!
I hope see you next LD :)

kerdelos 2016-04-26 13:18

Welcome to ludum dare and Unity !
Making a game is a tough job so congrats on finishing this one even if it's as classic as Pong. That being said you could look to the new Unity UI system, it is not much more complicated than the OnGui function and allows to make pretty things in a short amount of time. Also the collisions behave a bit weirdly but hey ! keep faith, keep practicing and you'll soon amaze yourself.

rhastapunk 2016-05-01 15:25

Nice, I really thing one of the most important purposes here is to learn. See you in next LD with a better one. I hope you enjoyed developing this!
