LD30 — Connected Worlds

The Octate Worlds by Jogy34 2014-08-27T14:43:00

There's a lot of content in this submission which is really impressive. I like the idea itself and I'm a very big fan of mini-games. And so, the unstable difficulty of the worlds (I got stuck on the purple world) is understandable but a more stable difficulty would been nice (or at least a way to quit of a world and come back to it).

Story of a Broken World by manabreak 2014-08-25T12:30:00

The art and the music are amazing. But, there wasn't much to do, which is understandable for a 10h game.

Mammoth Monkey Mole by ehtd 2014-08-25T22:41:00

Great art and music. Great level design and game mechanic. A+

merge guys by Tanner 2014-08-25T18:51:00

I couldn't figure out how to movement of the characters were linked. But, I guess that was the point. Nice pixel art and animation on the dopplegangers.

1548 La Rue by cacciatc 2014-08-25T15:40:00

This worked on so many levels for me. Everything seemed to fit together nicely, the sound, the pixel art, the color palette and the dialogue. A+

Intersection by Domantas 2014-08-27T14:52:00

Great idea. Solid execution. The world transition effect looked amazing. The pixel art isn't expert level by any means but don't sell yourself short. It gets the job done and was perfect for this kind of LD game. A+

Kit Quack Attack by ittlebit 2014-08-25T14:08:00

I like the red on white color design. Cool sounds. Nice art. The duck and the cat are nicely animated. The gameplay mechanics were a little on the light side, it was a bit too simple. I feel like it would have worked better as a series of levels with increasing difficulty containing unique layouts with maybe some obstacles to avoid or maybe teleporter tiles, etc.

Connected Words by Mathias Olsson 2014-08-26T00:32:00

Great music and voice work. Original interpretation of the theme. Good stuff.

Links by esayitch 2014-08-25T19:51:00

Broken link, can't play.

Links by esayitch 2014-08-26T00:09:00

The link worked this time, thankfully considering the name of your game. Amazing amazing amazing. Art, sound effects, music, gameplay mechanic, controls, cheesy backstory, everything is top-notch. A+

Lullaby by Mase 2014-08-26T15:41:00

This is really something special. The atmosphere, eg. the combination of the art and sound, is captivating. The pixel art is so varied, so unreal and has a very distinct style at the same time. I enjoyed experiencing this. Thank you. A+

ComboTwin by c023-dev 2014-08-26T00:19:00

Interesting twist on the infinite runner genre. The look and feel of the game was great, the music, the sounds and the pixel art worked very well together.

The Wizard Of Clix by dhargan 2014-08-25T13:59:00

I feel like it would have been 1000x funner if the clicking mechanic was replaced by something more substantial like a mini-game puzzle thingie. Although, that would have taken more time than you had available to you. Gain experience, keep working hard and next Ludum Dare you'll have enough time.

Above & Below by Ariake81 2014-08-26T00:15:00

Cool concept, awesome art and great music. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to experience it all due to the difficulty of the game.

13 minutes of light by Jod 2014-08-25T19:34:00

The letter writing mechanic was unique and separated it from the other visual novels I've played. The art blew me away. The music was minimalistic and appropriate for the setting. I got the high love rating ending and by the end I was shivering in excitement/wonder which is a good sign. Although, I'm confused as to how a physical letter would be less expensive to ship to Mars than some kind of stable storage device with as many electronic messages as needed. Overall, A+

13 minutes of light by Jod 2014-08-25T19:36:00

Woops, forgot to give you props for the writing. Great writing. A++

Dance Dance Invasion by adcrusher 2014-08-25T22:54:00

Top-notch from top to bottom, everything. Your pixel art blows my mind, your fullscreen mayor shot, the dancing aliens, the mayor, etc. I'd like to be able to make great pixel art like that one day. No lies, 5 stars everywhere.

Who We Can't See by DrHahn 2014-08-25T12:01:00

Very nice sprites and animations. The characters' directional attacks were hard to use due to the coupling of aiming and movement. But, maybe I'm just bad.

Savior: Saver of Souls by John Drury 2014-08-26T01:57:00

Really epic. Great pixel, great music, great sound. The audio-visual cues and the controls are really tight which bring this "Endless Arcade Action-Platformer" to a whole other level. Amazing All round. A+

The Bunny Theory by cudabear 2014-08-26T02:06:00

I liked the minimalist art style. The sound effects and music fit well together. But, the shoot-X-thing gameplay wasn't my favorite.

I.A.N by GoudaGames 2014-08-25T15:21:00

Cool idea. Simple but effective art style and game mechanic.

Faith Jump by muriel 2014-08-25T11:53:00

The platforming controls were finicky. I could see myself enjoying the game a lot more if the movement of the wizard was smoother.

Parallel worlds by Druid 2014-08-26T02:22:00

Great art style, nice pixel art all, nice color palette. Cool interpretation of the theme.

Last Connection by Jamcount 2014-08-26T00:46:00

One of the few 3D compo games I've played which is a plus. More time would have helped shaped this into something more complete.

Black Box Bandit by BillToWin 2014-08-25T21:58:00

thanks for the kind words and feedback everyone! It means a lot to me.

@allenfreese: That's a great idea. I tried to accomplish this by slowing down the time between each drone's turn but it didn't work as well as I had hoped. Arrows pointing in the direction the drone moved in and located in the square the drone originated from would be 1000x better.

@mrexcessive: I play tested a very little with a bigger map and I felt like it just took longer to finish. I felt the current 7x7 map captured the essence of the game. There is surely a more fun/optimal board size, it's something to look at.

@dhargan: see Jod's answer below.

@Jod: Thanks for checking my game! The different coloring of the enemies/drones was a last minute addition, I'm still unsure whether it was a good idea or not. Drones that are red are situated at an even Manhattan distance from the player, the blue ones at a odd distance. It's more of a status cue rather than an absolute fact because under certain circumstances a drone will not move during a turn (if all its adjacent squares are blocked when its turn comes) and as such the distance between it and the player will change by one, thus changing the distance's parity, and thus changes its color.

Disconnected Worlds by Pantelis Petsopoulos 2014-08-25T12:11:00

I have no clue how you were able to make this using Stencyl. One "bad" choice forced me to restart the game which was unfortunate, imagine a puzzle that resets itself if you make a mistake.

Salvation by 43iscoding 2014-08-26T00:42:00

I loved the gameplay. The art and sound was really great. I really liked the rainbow colored noise effect washing over everything.

Nothing seemed out of place, the game seemed to be very deliberate and planned out. A+

Affix It by SaxonRah 2014-08-25T19:56:00

Can't get it to run. I've unzipped and tried running the .exe but it throws an error saying I'm missing MSVCR120.DLL

Merge by vicious_br 2014-08-26T00:53:00

Great ambient sound. Looks amazing. An interesting twist on the avoid-the-danger-zone genre.

TrainSim 4000 by smbe19 2014-08-25T14:44:00

I like this a lot. I'm really into games with simulation elements. The graphics are simple yet effective at conveying their meaning. Gameplay was perhaps a tad simple but I can see it being expanded/flesh-out easily. A+

Connected Retro Worlds by yodamaster 2014-08-25T15:07:00

Great concept, solid execution, nice ambient sound. But, I thought it was a too easy, especially for a retro game.

IRMCO Space Miners by Josh H 2014-08-26T01:50:00

Technical beauty. I loved the new Unity UI work, impressive considering the time you had to learn it. I'm not sure how you managed to fit all of these gameplay elements together in such a short amount of time without it all falling apart but you managed it. Kudos to you. A+

They Were Just Pixels by Ohems 2014-08-25T20:10:00

Solid game. I enjoyed thinking about the ideas it brought forth. Played through it twice.

Glue The World by shimage 2014-08-25T19:42:00

Awesome original mechanic, I've never seen anything like this before. Forced me to use my brain which is something I like.

Synchro Space by FeYbraNt 2014-08-27T14:09:00

Fun and well executed concept. Controlling both ships at the same time was a really good idea. But, the shooting sound was played when I pressed the shoot button whether or not a laser came out of the ship. It's a small thing but it's the small things that turn a good game into a great game.

Color Bleed by ranseur 2014-08-25T11:32:00

Once I internalized that those dots were people, it sent shivers down my spine. It's a truly modern military simulator, you specify points on a map and people die. A+

Homeworld Defender by soyliquid 2014-08-25T13:45:00

Nice graphical style. I was freaking out at the end, the planets were coming in none-stop and it provoked a strong emotional response from me. But, the audio was a bit rough sounding and by the end I was fearing for the safety of my ears.

Ignis by Fanatrick 2014-08-26T01:02:00

Game was hard. I tried the start of each of the normal levels and tried to get as I could but it wasn't happening. So, I resigned to staring at the main menu for a couple minutes, it's mesmerizing (not to mention the amazing reflection effect). A+ for the menu alone. That broccoli makes me smile real hard.

Jet Runner by Pavel 2014-08-25T12:40:00

Fun arena arcade type game with a story. The enemy spawning and behavior in general were annoying to deal with (when I died it felt like I was unlucky rather than felling as if I did something wrong).

Journey to the 5th Planet - My first Ludum Dare! by KevRevDev 2014-08-26T02:34:00

I'm not a fan of platformers in general but your level design was solid. The different resolution of the pixel art assets is jarring. As for the music, a much easier tool to use that I've had a lot of sucess with is Bosca Ceoil http://distractionware.com/blog/2013/08/bosca-ceoil/, try it out and I guarantee you that the next time you're music will come out as expected.

Bi-Bob by Donar 2014-08-25T18:59:00

Great gameplay mechanic. Controlling both characters at the same reminded me of A Tale of Two Brothers. Well executed.

SHIT RUNNER by Cad 2014-08-27T21:22:00

Just great. The voice and the sounds were really immersive. Everything together was completely hilarious. A+

City Hero by FerrenReve 2014-08-25T15:27:00

I like the look of the game a lot. More ambient sound would have been nice (of the chimeras attacking, of the people running around and panicking). Standard rotating turret gameplay not especially innovative but it works.

Foo by LPeter1997 2014-08-25T19:11:00

Great level design. Tight platforming controls. Nice pixel art. The music and the sound effects were awesome.

Betwixter by buckslice 2014-08-25T11:41:00

Fun game, great concept, intriguing level design. A+

HEAL by Stepwise 2014-08-25T14:59:00

Crazy good pixel art, the animation is great on that sword swing as well as the priest. Maybe even too good because the environment art was lacking in comparison, but it is an LD after all. Gameplay was unexpected and interesting, I would have played more if I could have.

Alma by Vallar 2014-08-26T02:17:00

I got stuck at the rat/cheese, I don't know what I was doing wrong. If you want to get better at making pixel art in particular you should check out http://www.pixeljoint.com/. They've got a bunch of great pixel art you can look at, admire and learn from and there is a bunch of great people on the forums who are willing to help anyone learn the art.

Bolt by pxlcoder 2014-08-25T15:13:00

Very solid presentation. Great look. Simple game mechanic but it's been done before and I don't find it that fun.

A Tale Of Words by Njord 2014-08-25T13:12:00

Great voice. Got me to laugh out loud which blows my mind. Interesting twist on the classic Concentration/Memory card game. I'm impressed, I'll be looking at your code later on to learn from it. A+

Annex Kharon by headchant 2014-08-25T13:37:00

OMFGBBQ. Great music, awesome art, fun strategic gameplay and an online leaderboard. #2GUDATLIFE. When I'm reduced to using acronyms and bad hash tags to express myself, it's because I'm really impressed. A+

Lethal Reflection by steve 2014-08-25T12:59:00

Very nice mood, the graphic design and the sounds meshed well together. Solid gameplay reinforcing the theme is a plus in my book. Reminded me a lot of Geometry Wars. Also, Lethal Reflection is a really good title for your game and awesome in general.

Little Jimmy and the Great Imagination Machine by laremere 2014-08-25T20:15:00

World switching mechanic was well realized. Though, the combat was finicky.

Intergalactic Delivery Services Corporation by sP0CkEr2 2014-08-25T12:51:00

I really enjoyed the non-standard mix of strategy and physics-based gameplay. The art, the music and the sounds were top-notch and blended very well together. More gameplay elements to deal with would be nice, it was a little simple for my taste (Pick planet ordering then launch to those planets in order, rinse and repeat).

Thinkings by Lythom 2014-08-27T14:30:00

Really cool idea. Making a puzzle game where the clues to solving the puzzles are quotes is really original. Outstanding music as well.

Office Hero! by Hi_ImTemmy 2014-08-25T13:25:00

The execution of your so called not-a-game-thingie (I'd argue the consumer has the right to decide what something is or is not, eg. is this a book or is this toilet paper?) is top-notch. If you ever want to make something-more-like-game then I think you have the skills necessary to get it done. Made me smile and that's an A+ in my book.

Marble Run by Homletmoo 2014-08-27T14:18:00

This game felt real due to the marble rolling and hitting wall sounds being so well done as well the shifting of the board graphical effect. I really enjoyed it. A+
