I planted and harvested the 1 plant I have from the start. But the when I try to enter the protal nothing happends. I have a Server and a Client Panel on the top left, but besides showing differnt colors when I click on them, nothing happens. Any idea what I'm doing wrong, is is there a bug in the game/server?

artman 2023-01-10 09:26

Portal doesn't work on the multiplayer version, please check the server!

kenguin 2023-01-10 09:32

Super cool and unique concept and looks cute as well! As the previous guy commented I can't seem to get the multiplayer void working but the single player one does work. If this gets more updates I might just keep it on my desktop!

daivyishere 2023-01-10 11:28

@artman @noskro @kenguin Sounds like a server issue. I restarted the server just now. Can you guys download the newest version of the game and test it out? Thanks :)

daivyishere 2023-01-10 11:37

@kenguin Thank you for the kind words! I'm planning on developing this game further more. Maybe I will have to rewrite the code since I wrote a lot of spaghetti code in this jam version. Let me know what you would like to see more in the furture version!

foggydude 2023-01-10 18:06

I don't seem to see anything other than the character and the question mark button. My resolution is 1600x900 if that helps

Also ignore my background heyuh.png

daivyishere 2023-01-10 18:19

@foggydude Hmmm I wonder why, do you have autohide taskbar or multiple monitors?

foggydude 2023-01-10 18:52

@daivyishere I do have autohide taskbar on, could it be the issue? Don't have any other monitors though.

daivyishere 2023-01-10 19:16

@foggydude This game reference your taskbar's location and size to create all the objects / colliders on the your desktop. So there will be some potential issues with it. Sadly I didn't have time to test out different desktop setups. You can try disabling autohide on taskbar to see if it works.

This is some real impressive work for a 3 day jam o.o not done with it yet, but seems like a nice mix between idle game and exploration game. And who in the world has time to implement multiplayer on a jam game.

Ya'll should @ me if u make new versions like you mentioned before, I'm curious where you'll go with this.

oleg20111511 2023-01-15 12:28

Awesome game! The concept is great, progression gives a reason to play more, and seeing other players is interesting. Also, hiding the interface when standing in a corner is a great feature. The only thing missing is an exit button

rik-thunder 2023-01-15 12:47

It was pretty convenientto do other things on your pc while waiting for the flowers to grow when I didnt feel like goign into the void again ^^ I have no idea how you managed to make this in 3 days. But major props!

daniel-alhadeff 2023-01-16 03:35

Ok, I played this game with a group of friends and I can easily say that's it's is one of my all-time favorite LD games. Seriously well done.

Cat_fun_time.png

One small thing that would be a nice addition would be some sort of object permanence in the void. I think the ability to place semi-permanent lights/markers down could add more of a lived-in feeling.

Following both of your accounts :)

jeremy-ryan 2023-01-16 03:39

Nice work on this!

blue2.gif

It was really fun to play with a group and share/compete for progress. The progression was fun and there was a variety of upgrades and resources to spend, with the cosmetics at the very end as an additional goal.

One small downside is that with a lot of players playing at the same time, the limited resource spawning was a bit of a bottleneck. It would have been nice if multiple players could pick the same plant, or there was a larger map with different sections that grew the higher-level crops.

Great work getting networked multiplayer to work on game jam timelines! Everything worked really smoothly and there wasn't any lag or issues that I could notice.

daivyishere 2023-01-16 14:20

@iak I'm planning to remade the whole game from scratch in the future. It's gonna be mostly the same game loop but with maybe a whole different gameplay in the void other than just platformer exploration. I'm glad you like it :)

daivyishere 2023-01-16 14:23

@oleg20111511 Are you talking about having an permanent exit button on screen? Currently if you press Esc key it will pop up a quit game panel for you. And thank you for the kind words!

daivyishere 2023-01-16 14:33

@daniel-alhadeff I actually had the idea of an upgrade that gives player ability to leave light trail on the ground, but sadly I didnt have time to impletment it. But I do have a plan to develop this game further more so I will definitely try to add more stuffs to make the world more immersive. I really appreciate your words, it really means a lot to me :)

daivyishere 2023-01-16 14:42

@jeremy-ryan Honestly, seeing a group for players having a great time playing my own game is one of the best rewards for making a multiplayer game. I'm not very confident about the balance between upgrades and resources beacuse I didn't have enough time to test the gameplay by myself lol. I found the issues of limited resources after watching some friends of mine playing it. It's definitely frustrating especially while playing with other players you don't know about. And again thank you for playing and I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

hawkin 2023-01-17 02:36

This is by far the most daring entry I've seen. It's almost like an idle game, but with network play thrown in. I downloaded the single player version, FWIW, just to try it out.

First off, I love the way it just lays very simply over my desktop. In fact, I'm typing this right now with the little dude hanging out. Hey dude. Sit tight!

At first, I was a little disgruntled by the slow void refresh timer. "You mean, I collect 3 seeds, then wait 4 minutes before I can collect more? And shop items cost how much? I think I'm going to recommend to speed that up ..."

But then I realized the genius of your design: it's idle, and I can see my desktop. I can do _other things while I wait_.

giphy.gif

Ooops, brb. Void refresh. Okay I'm back. Anywaay, this feels like the kind of thing I would just keep up in the background so I can keep farming and getting better gear. My only regret is that it doesn't save my progress on quit :( I'll have to consider giving the online version a try -- if you have any gameplay footage, I'd love to see it.

Like I said, daring! You risk people "not getting it" and complaining about the speed.

Also @foggydude no, I will not ignore your background XD

daivyishere 2023-01-17 06:42

@hawkin Tbh this entry is kind of weird. Some people really hate it and some others seems to REALLY enjoy it. It's a bit of double-edged design I guess. And I will definitely implement a save system for this game soon. Thank you for playing!

brainoid 2023-01-19 10:08

Multiplayer aspects of it was a little weird but I enjoyed it being on my desktop and playing it time to time like an idle clicker game. Jetpack exploration was engaging too. I could probably enjoy more if the visuals of the void change a bit the higher you go in the void. Maybe postjam :D voidreader.png

daivyishere 2023-01-20 05:44

@brainoid I should have made all the plants shareable between players. Void of friends, perhaps. And yeah, post jam soon!

moonlightbomber 2023-01-26 09:01

I gave your graphics a 5 because of the usage of the desktop... and because the cat is adorable.

arron-fowler 2023-01-26 15:42

Cool game. Fair play adding multiplayer in a 3 day Jam. Kudos for the ambition. I would make the wait time a little shorter for the refresh just so play rate can move along quicker. Good work

eloraju 2023-01-26 20:11

Extremely cool! I enjoyed this one way too much  You really should expand on this. My only gripe was that the refresh timer seemed a bit long in the beginning when you couldn't really get that far into the void.

shiny-elster 2023-01-26 21:58

Im in love. There is a lil creature sitting on my taskbar! I never knew what i was missing but now i've got him i'm happy. Can't wait to harvest more plants and get all the cool stuff from the shop! 10/10 would play again

cobaltjt 2023-01-26 22:08

I'm absolutely amazed!

I don't know where to start… Harvesting data from your PC is an awesome interpretation of the theme. Also, using the desktop is clever and incredible unexploited. Switching between "spheres" is brilliant.

I usually don't like idle games much. But you put so many good thoughts into this game. I think it also has potential to be extended in many directions. I mean… having a small cat-thing living on your desktop is just cute! (well, things like that did exist in the past, but somewhat are forgotten).

arron-fowler 2023-01-26 23:10

Pleased you got your 20

shiny-elster 2023-01-27 01:47

Im back. and im heartbroken that i can't save my lil dude. It was super fun and i love it <3

Great entry, I give you full points for innovation!

Too bad I didn't have time to test this with my friends but the idea to make massive multiplayer desktop clicker was so wild I just had to try it before the rating time ends!

The game itself made my windows run slowly. Even just scrolling the windows on desktop was laggy when this was on, so maybe there could be some optimization on performance.

I liked the cute graphics. The UI was first hard to use as you had to click directly on the question mark for something to happen and I wondered if the game worked at all.

Anyways, clever and cute game!
