LD52 — Harvest

Harvest : Mars by angry-cyboot 2023-01-26T20:46:50Z

The idea for the game is great. A kind of game I usually enjoy playing.

I think you noticed that your ideas were a bit over-ambitious. This just happens very fast. It certainly happens to me aswell, so I can relate to you.

But I agree that the game jams are great way to improve. Within a few days you learn a lot! The next one will be much better.

Mothman's Forest by pixelstuff 2023-01-27T15:03:34Z

I really like the idea! Style is excellent. Design, animations, sounds… Just great.

The core concept of the game is also interesting and fun. I just got stuck too many times in trees. And it was not always clear why I lost. I think the light sources turned off in rare occasions, so I had to pay attention to the torches themselves.

Evergreen 2 by JustMars 2023-01-26T21:17:09Z

This really took me back… I quite enjoyed the retro charm of this game. Implementing a day-night cycle and seasons in this short amount of time is quite impressive. Almost feels like a short demo for a bigger game.

Not sure if I got all aspects of the game, though. For example: does the knife has a purpose? Is there a reason why apple and deer are displayed at the top of the screen? More inetractions with the world would have been nice. But there is only so much you can do in two-three days. Also, diagonal movement also felt weird.

Far VVest by Pikario 2023-01-26T00:04:22Z

Fun! Simple. A bit macabre. I like this kind of progression system, even though the upgrades did not have side effects. Great humor, with the waiter dialogue and the voice acting.

Sandwich Runner by BlueDingo 2023-01-26T21:28:37Z

Nooo! My sandwich is falling appart!

Also, so many questions… Is there a goal or a way to fail? Mayo grows on fields? You put carrots on a sandwich?

Fun! (for a short amount of time).

Grim Phantom by CemKaanU 2023-01-26T00:48:16Z

Fun game. Design, movement, and everything felt smooth and polished. Could maybe use a little tutorial page and an indicator for the "attack" area. Also, there seems to be no difficulty progression? It gets too easy once you reach a certain point.

Soul's Path by Gabriel Chan 2023-01-26T01:46:08Z

Great music! Adorable graphics. I really like the style overall. The mood is fantastic.

Gameplay: Interesting idea. Gives some nice mechanics. It's also relatively varied.

Sadly, there've been some small things that bothered me: - It took me a while to get the correct entrance to the third level (where you have to go down). I was not paying attention to the clouds, and they are gone once you collected enough souls. - Travelling to the right side of the screen, I started to glitch around. This happened in other locations too. - Fourth level I got stuck again, as the right rock did fall over, so I was unable to reach it from the right side. I noticed you can reset them by pressing R, and I finally made it after a few attempts. Don't know if this is intentional. - Sometimes the fox gets stuck, which is often fixed by crawling backward a bit and retrying.

These are all small things. Unfortunately, they added up and caused enough frustration to break the otherwise wonderful experience.

All in all, it's still an extraordinary game. I'm glad I found it and was able to play it.

Void Reader - A desktop multiplayer game. by DaivyIsHere 2023-01-26T22:08:53Z

I'm absolutely amazed!

I don't know where to start… Harvesting data from your PC is an awesome interpretation of the theme. Also, using the desktop is clever and incredible unexploited. Switching between "spheres" is brilliant.

I usually don't like idle games much. But you put so many good thoughts into this game. I think it also has potential to be extended in many directions. I mean… having a small cat-thing living on your desktop is just cute! (well, things like that did exist in the past, but somewhat are forgotten).

Pflaenze by shiny Elster 2023-01-26T19:39:30Z

@pikario thanks for playing and the kind feedback!

Shiny Elster and Zeriphon did a great job on creating the assets. Unfortunately I was running out of time for putting everything together. That's why not everything made it into the game.

I wanted to complete it, that's why I created the updated version on itch.io. But I did not yet take the time to do so.

Future Food Competition by Fachworthaus 2023-01-26T20:28:17Z

Interesting idea, with nice concepts. I liked the character design, having planets as gardeners.

It's a bit dry gameplay-wise. If you make the wrong decision, you have to start from the beginning. Apparently I'm not a good gardener myself. I had to restart quite a few times.

Reap What They Sow by RaggedyJam 2023-01-26T00:25:39Z

Good tutorial. Still I was a bit lost at the beginning (where to go). In my opinion: Art is ok, sound is good, music is good enough for a short game. The gameplay is not as exciting as I first imagined. Cannot quite say why. Maybe it's a bit too static, as the world does not really interact with the player.

LD54 — Limited Space

Harvest Saturn by Taldius 2023-10-04T08:33:30Z

Huh, clever. Takes a few attempts to grasp all the mechanics. But it's genuinely a well thought and made game. I usually find something to complain. Not this time. Good work!

Start Wreck: The Finite Frontier by LandoSystems 2023-10-03T16:43:17Z

It's a mixed bag for me. Visuals and music are nice, writing is fun, it also feels polished. But the fact that you cannot interact with the game, besides the initial launch of the ship, makes it a bit boring. Also, visiting waypoints did not feel that rewarding (text is fun, but what about the bonus?).

Refugees of Oblivion by arzi 2023-10-03T13:52:06Z

Hard to understand in the beginning. I still did not figure out how tension gets calculated, but luckily it gets displayed before placing a new survivor. Most important tip for me was you can just dismiss as many incoming survivors as you want. Without negative consequences, it gets very easy. The visuals are quite small, as the window cannot be resized. I think it's a very interesting foundation. Even though it's a bit complicated in the beginning, I had fun playing it.

Intermodal by jotson 2023-10-04T12:34:11Z

Okay, I get it. It's about multitasking and being fast. Was a lot of fun when I finally figured it out!

The RNG might need a bias. At some point I was left with only red trucks and full storage with no red containers. Not much you can do in that case :(

The visuals, even though simple, fit the game really nice. So does the sounds. Great game!

The Ones You Keep by Hugimugi7 2023-10-03T14:26:23Z

To be honest, I don't really know what to say. The initial idea sounds a bit heavy for a game jam. But the writing and the voice acting are brilliant. The humor is on point, and makes it enjoyable to listen to all the letters. If there was a hidden "truth" to discover, I didn't figure it out. Maybe my attention span is too short during game jams.

RAMpage by Blue Pin Studio 2023-10-04T12:19:52Z

Very well made game. Even placing random files and watch the battles is fun.

Planning is a bit difficult, as you get random files and can't replace already placed ones. Plus, you lose a random file each round. I don't know how to influence the later stages, didn't make it past the 9th cycle.

Rough Housing by AGK 2023-10-04T10:33:26Z

Cool game! Feels very polished. Visuals are appealing, sounds and music fit nicely. Was a lot of fun to play.

I did struggle with the effects of some buildings initially. Happiness rewards felt random. Previewing happiness modifiers might help that.

Mind the Gap by LelulaGames 2023-10-03T13:11:59Z

The atmosphere is great. Visuals and music get along together very well. Took a while to get used to the rotated controls. Also, the windmill level was quite hard, had to try it quite a few times. Luckily, the chill ambient saved it for me. I think I would have preferred levels with a more complicated and narrow pathing, instead of the moving parts. So they require more sensitivity and less timing. Which would also fit the mood better, I think? Still, good foundation, I enjoyed playing through it.

Gloobler by TheNBCorpse 2023-10-03T12:53:23Z

I think I got jumped by the planets a few times? Fun for a few playthroughs. Arena borders are a bit hard to recognize in the beginning. The attack wave takes a few ms before surpassing Glooblers hitbox and follows Gloobler, which took me a few attacks until I got it right.

Laboratory of Doom by Constance 2023-10-04T08:59:41Z

The game has a few difficulty spikes. The first just at the beginning: You have to realize that you alreay start with weapons. This might already drive many game jam players off. I first thought I have to "steer" the enemies around, to get past them. Could be fixed by starting with the pistol in hand.

The next one when you run out of ammo, until you find out how to cheese zombies in horizontal areas. Approaching vertically is more problematic, as they even attack through doors (up), which is annoying.

Also, the inventory bugged out a few times, so I could not open it anymore.

I think it's a cool concept for a stand alone game, but too hard/complex for the usual game jam rater.

Greedy Joey by Metsker 2023-10-04T10:16:32Z

That was actually a lot of fun! The risk-reward consideration is nice. Upgrades in general are nice.

It took me a while to figure out the melee combat, hitboxes are a bit weird (you can use that to your advantage). Also, difficulty at the beginning is quite high, and the fact that you have to restart when you die can be frustrating. At some point I got lost about my upgrades, as they are nowhere displayed (I think?)

Still, overall, really nice game!

Circular Nest by ShidyGames 2023-10-03T13:33:53Z

Oh god, arena #1 is really small! But still doable, with the right upgrades. Upgrades seem to be more important than skill. Makes it a bit random and frustrating in the beginning, until you know the right upgrade path (if you are not unlucky with enemy spawns in the beginning and don't get useful upgrades). That might sound bad, but I actually liked it after a while, and had quite some fun playing it. Still, the best part are the sounds, for sure.

Packing time ! by Valothebest 2023-10-04T09:39:09Z

Good concept. Visuals and music are relaxing. I think the levels are difficult enough to omit the time pressure. Either that, or make the levels easier. You have to do a lot of planning before you pick items, as you cannot remove a placed item? Also, the controls are a bit quirky.

Packing time ! by Valothebest 2023-10-04T10:19:15Z

@shinai Yes, but you cannot remove items already placed in the bag. Or did I miss this?

Poste Limited Space Edition by Flife58 2023-10-03T22:49:08Z

The general concept of the game is nice. Some things I stumbled on: - Picked a package in a bad angle a few times, with no option to drop the package and adjust angle, I was stuck and had to restart. - I had to send packages that did not appear? - It's a bit frustrating that you can loose stamps already on the outgoing conveyor belt.

The game loop itself was fun. I would have preferred a lower initial difficulty.

Draki's Journey by GrizzlyJer 2023-10-04T08:12:36Z

Cute game, nice art style, sounds and music fit the style very well. It's also a relatively big game for three days work, and still feels polished on many aspects.

There are some minor edges that hurt the fun a bit: - I'm a bit of a slow reader, so the monologs were too fast for me to read. Not auto-forward would have helped me, especially since dialog skipping is already implemented. - Dialog skipping is not implemented for pick-up dialogs, which was a bit annoying in the last level, as I had to retry it quite a few times (and standing still mid-action for so long also felt awkward). - The hitbox of the vampire is a bit odd? The top edge is too high for the perspective. It also made squeezing through these barriers harder then it should be. - I was often taking damaging without realizing why. Maybe it was because of the hitbox.

Most can be fixed easily. Other than that, I might have preferred more complex mazes and less moving objects. So the gameplay gets more relaxed, to better fit the atmosphere (music also sounds stealthy and not pushed). But this may be totally subjective.

Warehouse Tycoon by MaksimJ 2023-10-04T09:26:55Z

It gets easy once you start rejecting offers.

The game loop starts out interesting, presentation is good. But there is nothing to do with the money (e.g. upgrade storage space, etc).
