Pretty cool! Controls feel a bit clunky/slow but I found the kills to be really satisfying!
Tense! I imagine I'd be about as successful in a real sword fight. ie... I'd be dead pretty quick.
There was this old game I had on my Macintosh S.E. called MacNinja. Very similar.
Really like it! It's kind of psychedelic experience, the music is very good and creates perfect mood. Awesome work!
Nice sound effects :) I'm not sure if it showed my health correctly.
I enjoyed the sword play, although I felt my player was a bit slow to respond to the attack controls.
Super simple, but well made. I Included it in part 1 of my Ludum Dare 31 compilation video series, if you would like to check it out :) http://youtu.be/v6qOf-i7cO4
Not too bad. I had to play this because I made an arena fighter too. Nice job.
I could kill 6! Liked, I think to improve the controls and put more blows is legal.
Nice music and sound effects! I think needs some feedback to know when the character will attack!
Nice sword fighting game. It felt a little slow, but thereby also tactical. Wait for the opponent to strike, block, then strike yourself. I really enjoyed the music, pretty epic stuff.
Suggestion: Add a mode for two players, that's be really fun.
And thanks a lot for using x and c for controls as opposed to the often seen x and z. My fingers are very happy about that. :)
Good game overall!
good job guys
I had a lot of fun with your game, thanks guys)
Sword arena. Lot of stabbing. I love the cartoony feel in motion, sounds and graphics :)
I really liked this, the slow attacks were quite enjoyable and it gives you time to think about what you're doing.
I think a bit more feedback from the opponents would be good, to help you plan your moves a bit.
One thing I though you did really well was create tension, and that helped me use my imagination - each new opponent somehow felt different and threatening
This game genre was a great choice for the theme, but is especially tough for 48 hours, so hats off for taking it on, and making it work. The controls were easy to pick up, but felt a bit clunky. You really needed to commit to attacking or defending, which could easily leave your vulnerable. Ultimately, I gave up trying to block (was there a particular reason the up-block lagged longer than the others?), and found the best strategy was to hit and run. Multiple times, I felt frustrated when trading blows with an opponent, especially if I was only my last heart I'd suggest either giving the player a way to cancel an attack, or automatically cancel out attacks happening at the same type.
I did encounter a bug when playing. An opponent and I killed each other at almost the exact same time, the next round began, but I had disappeared. Not a big deal, I just thought I'd let you know.
The sounds/music felt a bit repetitive, but fit the gameplay well. The character's graphics were very crude, especially compared to the polished logo, and other on-screen elements. I imagine you planned on changing the character sprites, but ran out of time.
My highest score was 8 opponents.
If the controls were more responsive and the movements were less jerky, I'd rate this higher.
Good game, it's fun to win those fights! However it seems I got stuck a few times - I couldn't move at all anymore and had to reload the game! Making the movements more responsive would probably increase the fun.
Blocking was not very practical in my experience, since there is no way to anticipate the opponent's movement. As zatika said, hit and run (or just hit) seems to work best. I liked the different appearances of the opponents, but you should really give them eyes. Here, on Firefox, the game froze eventually, both times I played it.
