One of the best I've played so far!!

Fantastic mix of rhythm, humor, and simplistic fun! Easy controls that let me sit back and enjoy the game!

GG!

crown-games 2018-04-23 03:44

This was an interesting, but very fun concept! The music was great, and the dialogue added that spice of humor that really brought the whole thing together

evannex 2018-04-23 03:51

Oh I love this! It's so charming!

rodel77 2018-04-23 04:10

@pandademic42 Thanks, thats just what i was searching, simplicity but fun and relaxing (I made a system that avoid repeating problems so is more enjoyable)

@Crown Games I am glad that you like it ;)

@Evannex Thanks =D

The game is certainly humorous! I did get confused a bit on whether or not my choices were positive though. I lost points when I got someone happy that they were having someone come to their birthday, but I couldn't tell why. It seemed very random. Also there seems to be a slight offset between the audio beat and the options selected, as sometimes I would here the beat, hit enter but still be on the old option, but I can certainly forgive that, as syncing games to audio is really difficult.

rodel77 2018-04-23 04:30

@dalbinblue there are lot of orc problems that i add, probably i messed up with some dialogs, and about audio, you don't have to press enter in the beat, the beat just select the next option and you have to press enter when the option you want is on focus

dalbinblue 2018-04-23 04:45

@rodel77 I think the problem is that some of the options move very fast (i.e. they are on the down beat) so it's not available long enough to not time it. That's why I was timing it on the beat.

rodel77 2018-04-23 05:03

@dalbinblue I played it a lot and i didn't really found that options move really fast, idk probably i am used to that, anyway thanks for the feedback ;)

I liked the text-based dialogue, but not sure the game was rhythmic enough to count as a second genre. I liked how the text selections were synced with the music beats, but while a polished game mechanic it deterred from my enjoyment of the game.

You got me interested in the life of the orc on the other line of my call, and I wanted to ensure that someone, please go to his birthday party. However a few times I accidentally hung up on him.

It reminded me a bit of what I think being bored as a call center technician would be like. You turn a tedious task into a game and try to add some fun to the monotony.

The theme was to combine two incompatible genres, and I think you may have found a winner. I'm not sure text-based adventure and rhythm belong together, but you sure did make lemonade out of the genre's you were dealt.

Nice idea! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WQphYmNNYE4

I must tell you that there are such things as timed choices in visual novels, so kudos to you for an unusual application of such.

Great idea doing rhythm based dialogue tree style game. Very funny!

If you have time, check out my entry: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/golden-beak-golf :)

elfcirynn 2018-04-24 23:45

It was fun, but sort of brief! Wish there were more incentives to keep going, maybe unlock stuff with the ratings, or improve the graphics with the ratings, made the beats harder, etc. It was a fun entry and a cool concept I would like to see further built upon!

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-04-25 00:41

Good job! Cool game!

I rate your game, if I can give a game in my game, Witch's Escape.

That was so fun! Loved the writing, tipically my kind of humor!

Connecting the choice to the rhythm is pretty innovative and works really well! I would love to see some constraint forcing you to answer faster, like at a constant rate!

A really fun compo, congrats!

remi-gourrierec 2018-04-29 20:58

I love the rythme base choice. That make controls very straightforward. Dialogue are good too. I'm not a good judge on game with multiples choices dialogues because it often feels just random. I'm feeling it with this game too. But I keeped happily playing, because it's peaceful and funny.

Good work !

thelucky 2018-05-01 03:40

Very good game! I do not have much to complain about really, but there were sometimes when the font is a little hard to read. All in all great work!

team-infernus 2018-05-01 04:14

Spot on with the theme! Got some laughs out of me too. I thought the music was a bit lacking for a rhythm game. Didn't feel like I had strong goals to achieve, but I had fun nonetheless. Great job!

rebecca-kremer 2018-05-01 05:19

I liked it! A bit simple for me, and I would have liked some sort of callbacks to my earlier choices to make them feel less like just random things I told people to do haha. :) Very chill game, which I liked though!

groverburger 2018-05-01 05:34

Fun idea, well executed. For a rhythm game it needs better music, but other than that this game is really great!

sam-machell 2018-05-01 08:05

i think the idea is really really great. i think theres a lot of potential in this idea of musical dialogue options. im thinking about the cardboard computer game Here and There Along the Echo for another nice phone line system. and also early Steve Reich pieces like Come Out that use the human voice in a musical way. or perhaps even thinking about theatre musicals. lots of territory for exploration that would be super interesting... hope some more comes out of this!

chikoness 2018-05-01 08:12

Fun and hilarious! I love it! Well done!

rodel77 2018-05-02 04:54

@Sam Machell Thanks, currently i am working on my game "Unpacking" but if i can finish it soon sure i will create a better version

Also thanks, i didn't know about Steve Reich pieces and i think is awesome 😉

gamecarpenter 2018-05-02 06:38

This game had some good humor, definitely very story driven as well. It addresses the theme well, and it's an innovative idea. There's some gameplay potential to this idea, even if this implementation isn't that engaging. As it is the rhythm aspect mostly feels like a slow, but reliable control scheme, since the music sync was clean, which is impressive. I just wish more rhythm game aspects could have made it in to the game so that it added a bit of fun to the menuing. If a game has a one-button restriction for some reason, this would be a great solution.

There were a lot of ditties, with different rhythms, which was nice for variety. Quite often though, the music didn't fit the mood of the text in game. It would be cool if the story beats and the songs were tied to emotions so that each story beat could get its own music, or subset of music. Its difficult to give much credit to the graphics since it's a text game. The pulsing effect was nice, but I didn't notice the ratings even existed until I saw the comments for the game. I found it difficult to tell which color was highlight at first, but the crossover highlighting for the title helped with that.

The ratings don't seem to update until the end of a conversation, if that's as intended, it makes them a bit limited in their usefulness as feedback. It's unclear if they do anything else. It's not exactly a bug, but there was an orc who thought they'd ask me for advice about some Orc they're in love with after we set up a date, which is not cool =P.

relsqui 2018-05-04 05:28

This is super cute, and the dialogue is really funny -- I liked wandering down the rabbitholes of the more unusual options. The rhythm component could be a bit stronger; I think it would help if individual songs lasted longer (maybe for an entire call?) so you had a chance to get into the rhythm of it, as opposed to changing for every question. But you made up for it by having a brief dating sim segment as well. ;)

rodel77 2018-05-04 06:02

@Relsqui i am glad that you enjoyed it, thanks for your feedback and also for the donation! ;)
