Will you add build for Linux? :v:
I'd love to export it to Linux to. I'm thinking in finishing first the whole game and probably make an export for Android too.
Very good graphics and sound effects, nice level design and mechanics
Nice artwork! I was having a little trouble with the ladders but that could just be me being bad.
Great job with the game. The art work superb and the game was fun to play. Works well with the theme. The sounds from some of the traps got a bit annoying after a while due to it constantly playing however. Still a really solid entry, nicely done.
Good stuff, a lot more complete than I would have expected for a weekend's work! Only thing that would make this a more complete package would be some appropriate tunes to go with the sound effects.
Thanks @natsu!
@ziamor It takes a little to get used to it but yeah, sometimes the ladders ar quite difficult to hang on. I'll try to improve the mechanic!
@ghostmaple I appreciate your comment. I was thinking in composing a catchy and fast paced tune but I ran out of time. The final version will be polished and much better!
@miltonnn25 Thanks for the comment! The sounds got me annoyed too, fortunately I remembered to turn down a little bit the volume for those sound effects hahaha. I'll improve the sound mechanic also.
@Amir-Bayareh If you could add an invisible two way-platform at the top, that would probably do the trick. Great game otherwise.
Cool game!=) I thought the landing sound effect was a little bit too loud and could be more subtle. Beyond that, good job!
@ziamor I was just thinking that! I'll add it! Thanks for the feedback! :)
@chinykian I think I need to have more control over the sound effects. It kinda annoys in the long run. Thanks for the feedback!
Fun game! I loved your graphics and gameplay. At one point I accidentally got stuck in the spikes, haha. But as far as the actual game goes, one of the most fun I've played so far today. Great work!
Thanks @nia ! Thanks for your comment. Did you got stuck by a glitch or was it for the level design? I ran over a bug in development that I tought I corrected it, I hope is not that.
@amir-bayareh I'm not positive. I originally died on the spikes because of my own mistake, but I kept spawning in the spikes and was unable to move until game over. After I started over I was fine for the rest of my playthrough.
@nia Thanks for the answer. I'll debug it.
Anyone can make a game that follows a theme. There's tons of games here where the game is short-lived because the more you have the harder it is. Your game is different from those tons of other games. This game shows intelligent creativity. You include the function of it getting harder, but, necessarily so, you also include the function of relieving that. That's the important part, that so many of these entries are missing.
Also, we're creating a game in a short time period, so there's a limit to how much one can create, but you also used this to your advantage. I don't know how many levels you've created (I've only played it once through so far), but the one level I played plays like multiple levels, because you have to keep going through it. In other words, you have one level that feels like many levels. This plays perfectly into your hand - the constraints of time to build it. The build plays perfectly into the theme - in a way that's not remotely annoying. The title of the game is even perfect. And, I didn't need to know any controls. I just pressed a couple buttons early on and figured it out.
Making games is exactly what you should be doing. Congratulations. This is brilliant. Creativity is using negative parameters to your advantage, and you've done that in all aspects here. This is a real game. Not a real game for something made in a weekend, but a real game. I'm glad I found it. I will definitely play it more. Thank you for creating this and sharing it with the world.
@cubeeo I deeply appreciate your comment. I intend to create games that are possible to beat in a speedrun. The player must traverse the level by analyzing it and finding the best path to complete it as soon as posible.
The mechanics I created are used to give the player the freedom to take advantage of the situation and create a sense of accomplishment trough observation.
I only made one level but I would like to create the final version with at least 5 more.
I should be thanking you for encouraging me to develop the final version for this game. Thanks @cubeeo :)
Don't thank me. If there's any justice, you'll get the encouragement from the results when they come out, because this game deserves to be ranked highly. Period.
* nice graphics * I think there are some bugs with depth (like item in front of a fist trap
Thanks @ginger9 ! I just saw that, I'll check it out, thanks! :)
Nice game ! Really liked it. It's quite hard at the start but when you practice a little, it becomes really enjoyable ! However, I got stuck on the top right corner (with the 3 diamonds) because I was too heavy to jump ! :p Great experience tho.
This game is stunning! I have to say that I LOVE the art and animation. I can see that you gave it a lot of thought. I also love how you get progressively heavier as you're carrying more stuff, and finding a balance can be challenging. Super fun, you should be proud! Congrats ;)
So, the weight affects the ability to jump. Nice touch.
Thanks for your feedback @maxime-catel ! I think it is a little hard to get that part trough. Did you double jumped at max height? It is the only way to get pass the final level.
Thanks @moonlightbomber !
I like level design, done very well. Very good game!
Thanks @imod !
Good game! I love the graphics and the mechanic is well done. I don't really see a need for lives though, especially with the spikes and hard difficulty. Using time as a score and having infinite lives for us less good players, or a way to gain lives / health back would be what I'd suggest.
I agree @stevie-bushman !
It is quite hard to play it trough and extra lives or health power ups would be a huge help. Thanks for the feedback!
Excellent game! Ladders were a bit weird, but other than that, it was great.
Appreciate your feedback @coderk !
Definitely the ladders are going to be re-designed to be easier to move on!
Cool game! The movement controls felt great whilst the character wasn't weighed down and I liked that once you advance past the ground floor, there's a hole in the wall that let's you jump out so you don't have to slowly back track whilst moving slowly. The only thing I will say is that it's a little bit of a drag to be slowed down gameplay wise. It fits the theme well, but perhaps a small benefit to off set the drag of being slowed down would be good. Just a thought though, very good result though, well done.
The level design was really good and I loved the look of all the sprites in the game. The concept of the more money you have, the more you weigh was very interesting and I thought it was generally executed very well.
I would've liked a button to drop some gold; there were parts of the level which were impossible with certain amounts of gold. I also think that the jumps at the top of the stage should've been easier when you had more gold because I was convinced that they were impossible. Your score is based on how much gold you have so you shouldn't punish the player for taking too much gold at the beginning.
But overall, an interesting game with a really nice feel to it, well done.
Thank you for your feedback @chazatron16 !
I think that the speed decreases a lot. I think I'll add to the base speed so that the movement woudln't feel so awkward.
Love the game! Really challenging for me, as I keep forgetting to look after things that damage the character. And because of that i think, as Stevie Bushman said above, it would be great, if you implement some kind of healing potions or food that could heal the character. It's like I can eat the meal and then steal the golden plate it was served at (: Animation and design are beautiful, the game is extremely fun (:
@sir-magic I appreciate a lot your feedback!
Indeed, I was planning to drop the treasures found so that the player could strategize better how to collect and come back for it but I lost track of time and couldn't add that mechanic. We'll add more mechanics in the final release!
I really like the art style its lovely!
Wow @ehe ! Stealing the plate from the meal is a fun idea! I think that the enemies are sort of camouflaged in the scenario and is quite hard to pay atention to them while searching for treasure. I think that I used to many blending colors between the items and the background. I'll use a new color pallete to define everything well. Thanks for your feedback!
Thanks @dead-jester-studios ! I was aiming for something cute and fun!
Great job mate! Loved the art and the setting and good concept too. I also liked the LD and obstacle and difficulty. Add a nice BG music would be good, but other than that well done :) Pls feel free to play and rate my game: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/split
Thank you @steven-pinto ! Definitely I'll add some kick-*ss soundtrack to it!
Getting some Shovel Knight vibes in here!
Is that good @cremagames? :hushed: I was aiming something close to Super Mario World haha.
One of my favorites entries of LD40 so far. Graphs are VERY nice, controls are solid, fits theme very well. Congratulations.
Thank you so much @jungle !
I'm glad you liked it! :)
Amazing game! The mechanics fit the theme, and the controls were very simple and responsive. I also enjoyed the art and encouraging sfx.
Thank you @bacoinvader !
I like this game a lot! Graphics and "physics" feels spot on and the sound effects suited the game well. We went for a similar take of the theme - collecting in a bag which affects your performance to run and jump. I learned a lot from your game and will keep that in mind when I attempt platformers in the future. In just a short period of time you had me/us dodging many different obstacles and weapons. I like how you managed to create so much content and place it well during the limited time. I also like your attention to detail, e.g. the little spirit/ghost as you die. I found it somewhat tedious to run all the way back to the drop treasure here pad but at least you could leap out of the window on the way back. Keeping track of highscore would have been nice too. Great effort, really well made!
Thank you so much @imphenzia ! After playing Nabi for the hundredth time I learned a lot to. It get tedious to go back, I was thinking in adding more pads to deploy the treasure but I wasn't sure as i wanted the player to strategize around the environment. I'll check your game in a moment! Nice that we used the same concept for the game theme!
Nice plateformer concept, and very hard. Reminds me the old good games, where you had only three lifes to finish all the game. Arts are in the same mood. Good work! :)
Thanks @lerevur ! I like retro style and I used most of the NES color pallete. :)
Really a nice game with good graphics and level design!
Exellent pixel art and sounds! Gameplay reminded me the old good J2ME game called _Treasure Grab_ in a platformer form. Also, I love that shortcuts. =)
Good pixel art! Action is limited when carry too much fits the theme. But it also makes game-play depressing.
oh congratulation! Nice art! Can I follow it also on indiexpo? Do you have also a page there? This looks great! I looked for the games that used the #LDJAM but I don't find yours. So good luck!! I will hope to make a video about it!
Thanks @gamelylife !
Glad you liked it @yngvarr ! I'll check Treasure Grab ASAP! :)
Thanks for your feedback @guoboism !
Gotta improve the speed value in the next version. :)
Thank you for your comment @roy87 ! I do not have a page in indiexpo but as soon as I can I'll make one and let you know. It would be amazing if my game gets featured in your video. Gonna check out your streams / videos!
It's funny cause at first we had a similar idea. Loved the pixel art. Really neat. The sfx feels a bit loud (maybe because de the lack of music), and maybe it would have been nice to have the bag getting bigger behind the character (or maybe not idk...)
It was fun to play, loved it :)
Thanks @angry-squirrels ! I agree about the sound effects beign too loud haha, I was planning to add music and adding a bag to the character but ran out of time (I fell asleep twice :( ) but I'll add it in the final version. Thanks for your feedback! I'll check out your game too!
Well made game, yeah! Good implementation of idea of weight. Cons for me is to walking across clean and empty location. Shortcuts from hight levels will solve this problem. Don't force player replay boring location - force them play new interesting and more hard locations!
Amazing work, we also tried to do something similar to what you did with the weight mechanic in our game. The controls were tight and responsive and its incredible that you managed to create so many beautiful sprites in so little time. I liked the idea of collecting thins and moving them to a "repository" and going back for more, i would suggest adding some sort of "elevator" mechanic that the player can unlock to help him fast travel to the higher parts of the level in order not to have to climb back all the way (i am personally border of back/forth tracking). Great game, congrats!
Wow hard to tell this game was made for a jam! Nice controls and the pixel art is great and well polished (which I hate doing). A solid game in general.
Really well-made! Love the art style and the music, the level design and the traps really remind me of Super Mario World for some reason.
Only thing I didn't like was having to run up again to get more stuff.
Good job!
Thanks for your feedback @saintheiser ! All the levels are open from the left area, so you can fall down to deploy the treasure. I'll take your idea about adding more interesting locations! :)
@zanzavar great idea! I think the more levels you clear, the higher an elevator appears at the beggining! I'll add it as soon as possible, thank you so much!
Thanks @eretzoum ! I love to do pixel art, I had some practice some time ago, so I could manage to do something for the jam haha.
@aemiliu5 Glad you liked it! I actually was inspired by Super Mario World so I'm happy you noticed it! Also the big shuriken that follows a path is the same as the saw in SUper Mario World haha.
