Love the dialogs! So cute.
Yay! I had a lot of fun with this one. The graphics were so cute and I enjoyed the vibe. I couldn't help but play to the end to complete all the levels.
A few small things: * I noticed I was able to pull some of the items out of the bag partially which seemed not intended by the puzzles * Some of the larger objects could only be pulled from the top which was not always intuitive.
Very minor things -- I really enjoyed this game!
the artwork looks amazing!! Cant wait to play it!!
Wow this is great! Beautiful art and animation. The UI was very clean and polished as well. I enjoyed the whole vibe and aesthetic. Some of the items in her bag like a rat were great. Overall very cozy. A good level of puzzle progression too. Good work!
I loved it! The graphics are adorable and really caught my eye, and the dialogue and items are hilarious! Such a fun twist to the theme :D
LOVE this game. The music and animation are adorable and really well done. The dialogue is very funny and made better when read aloud in your best granny voice. Next level button still shows up after you complete the last level and I wish you could hold the buttons to move the arm instead of having to spam click. Other than that, Granny's Gotcha is a charming and addicting game! -L
It's cute and interesting, I love this game.
@mikan, @is-a-hatbox, @jb-rock, @xeridian, @midamida: Thanks so much! <3
@drgrognak: Ah damn it, yes I had the blending out of the last "next level" button on my todo list but couldn't finish it (along with a lot of other things, sadly...). Holding the arrow keys is a good idea too! I will include that, thanks for the feedback!
@justine-olshan: Oh no, I forgot to make the top row unreachable for items... Dang, that ruins the puzzles a bit. I will try to publish a hot fix today or tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback! For the big objects: The objects will not move if in the new position, the arm would be "in the way", that's true. I wanted to make granny say something about this once it happens but you know... old people are hard to lecture
When I saw this game for the first time, I thought that the goal is to still something from grandma's purse, but after playing it, I think that this is much better. The graphics are so cute, and the music is really comfy. Puzzels are well thought. Great game!
Best entry I've seen so far! The art, mood and music are so well put together, I love it. I also like the interpretation of "depths" in your game design. Awesome entry, great game! :)
What a lovely game! The humor was on point for me, the visuals and music were really nice, the theme was well worked, and the gameplay was really fun, although removing the items partially from the bag made all levels pretty easy.
Absolutely loved this game! The artstyle and writing are so well done and so full of humor! The gameplay is very fluid, easy to grasp and the level design provides for a smooth difficulty progression. I loved granny's little remarks about the random items in her purse and her absolute confidence that the kid's serious issues could be sorted with candy <3
This is a great puzzle game, though I did get stuck on the level with the candy cane.
Amazing art and a great premise! The purse items and dialogue about them was really funny too. I enjoyed the more difficult levels. When there were multiple children in a row, it always got easier as you go (kind of the opposite of what you'd expect) so I think you could have just one child per puzzle so there's more challenge.
Oh wow, this was a super cute and polished experience! Loved the humor, the art, and the mechanics were quite interesting! But I really wanted to see the cute characters interact with each other! Awesome job!
Amazing! Screenshot 2025-04-08 at 11.43.34 PM.png
I love the art style, and the simple but goofy arm bending. Bags really are like that sometimes. I love how soft and smooth and cute everything feels. Simple but polished gameplay. Unique take on the theme. Good puzzle progression, though I was hoping the last one would be trick questions... Great entry!
Nice little game! Art style and music are pleasants and build good mood. Very chill, like it  Congrats !
SO cute! So Polished! Simple mecchanic but really works! Great Job~
The take on the theme is super funny and creative, the concept is easy to get, and the visuals are really cool too! Awesome job!
Your art and game are just great! And how much garbage is in the bag, and all this in a few days. I gave only the highest marks 😍
The poor rats all come to granny's purse and never escape.
Beautiful art, great humor, working mechanics, good level progression for difficulty. Seems like a hit to me!
Fantastic work!
now that is very innovative mechanic. Granny was a notorious pickpocketer in her past.
so funy little game, totally loved your art))
WOW! Very interesting, the art is amazing, went through all levels in one breath))
Lovely game! Original take on the theme, fun and hilarious! Well done!
Such a beautiful and funny game! Really enjoyed playing and it getting progressively harder! Loved reaching into the bag and bending my arm.
Amazing job, well polished. Great entry!
This is straight up 5 stars. Everything is perfect and perfectly implemented. The difficulty curve is just right too. How were you able to create so many levels in 2 days ? :flushed:
Amazing game! probably the best I've played so far, everything is perfect, the art style, music and gameplay all work together very well, the difficulty curve was perfect for me, easy at first, then challenging but not to the point where I'm incentivized to go play something else. I'm impressed you managed to pull all this off in a short time. Easy 5/5 from me!
I thought this one was sooo fun! Granny has me a little worried with how nonchalant she is about some issues, but it made for a very humorous game. She had so many things in her bag!! Overall such a cohesive and well-polished game! Hope you all had fun making it!
Love the art style on this one. Very satisfying to play. Wish there was a little more SFX
You've done an excellent job, and the result is really good! The graphics are very cool, the feedback on clicks and the music – everything is wonderfully selected.
There was a moment when I was afraid I would miss the dialogue because it said "skip." But it turned out that this was just a way to advance the dialogue further. And then it started moving on its own – it seems there was some kind of bug.
The grandmother's hands are made simply gorgeously. In general, I did think that grandmothers have such hands, although I didn't expect to see a broken cigarette with grandma. However, what about the cigarette – I definitely didn't expect to see a dead rat there. It was very funny and amusing.
Perhaps I would add a little more feedback on interactions and sounds for the moment when grandma picks something up. This is really lacking now because all the rest of the goat atmosphere implies that it should be very cute and pleasant. But the main pillar of mechanics, that is, the moment when you take something in your hand – it feels quite empty.
Fake ID? Grandma, seriously? I really like how the balance is done – it's very high quality. It's clear that the levels nicely follow each other and gradually expand grandma's bag. Grandma, a tampon, seriously? How old are you? Granny, another ID along with a dead bird? Good thing at least the cockroach isn't alive.
Overall, I really enjoyed the game. It's wonderful, and generally a super game, great work!

This level of polish is insane. Great galen audio, art and gameplay. I finished all the level !! Great little twist on this genre that we have seen 10000 times.
Oh wow, thanks so much guys!! It was our first jam after a child-break and we really missed that positive atmosphere and the warm words within the jammer community <3
@yopin, @nivbeth, @dxk2294, @jacobingalls, @flying-butter-studio, @bestdtang, @pixelstuff, @alopar, @lev-ramburg, @ybzpp, @yoav-kagan, @lexi: Thank you all so much!
@xivo: Thanks! And yes, I agree, the "hack" really ruins some levels. Hopefully I can deliver a fix until the weekend, that mechanic was definitely not intended.
@borabee: >her absolute confidence that the kid’s serious issues could be sorted with candy
Oh yesss, we're very happy to hear that part of her character (which we love too!) became visible ^^
@moonlightbomber: My husband did the level design and I got stuck there too! :D
@rose: Thanks, very good remark! You're right, we will consider that, the levels with multiple children didn't really create the level of difficulty we intended.
@braktheman: It was a sweet death though :candy:
@scoobysnacks: Thanks! >Granny was a notorious pickpocketer in her past.
What?! Who would say such things? Be careful with those words, granny knows how to handle her handcuffs...
@adamsmccall: Aww, thanks so much! All kudos with the level design go to my husband, he was a busy bee :bee:
Really love all the UI animations and cohesive art style. My only suggestions would be to support holding down arrow keys to move multiple squares to avoid having to spam arrow keys constantly. Or perhaps providing some kind of shortcut to auto-retract Granny's arm when you have your intended item. Super well done!! :D
**I have to share my special experience.** In the "Halloweeny" in the second-to-last level, I thought the goal was to get the cross necklace in the bottom left corner (completely forgot this was a game about candy, and as I'm from a different cultural background, I wasn't familiar with the meaning of that candy lol). Then I noticed that the top row could also hold items! After a lot of trial and error, I finally managed to get it out. 20250409234434.png (At first, I tried to completely clear the space above the necklace, but I always ended up with one extra item that didn’t fit. Eventually, I figured out a two-step solution!)
Honestly, I really enjoyed this unexpected spike in difficulty and the introduction of a new mechanic, even if it wasn’t the designer’s original intention. The already flawless game content, combined with this unexpected experience, made this game a perfect 11/10 for me!
A cute and sweet little puzzle game! I am not sure if you implemented the hotfix, but I was still able to break the puzzle by pulling things out of the top. I also agree with the comments wishing you could hold down down/up and for a more satisfying SFX. I enjoyed it overall, though, and I hope no one gets sick from the dead rat sweets!
Absolutely love this entry, the art is amazing and the controls are so smooth and nice to use ! Well done !
图像_2025-04-10_012849724.png Yooooo I love this cute game and its unique sense of humor. I love how the grandma will give the kids some treats no matter what problem they have. I love how the grandma's arm can tilt 360 degrees. I love the UI and the aesthetics.
One thing I wanna say is make it more obvious that players can put something on top of the case for better UX.
This is absolutely fantastic! The art, music, and gameplay come together perfectly to create such cozy and nostalgic vibes. Truly a warm and delightful experience!
Oh this game is sooo cute!!
Wait sorry *fourth husband?*
The things you can find in grannys purse, would make a sailor blush :D Really nice game. Crazy polish and very cool concept. One of my favs so far!
[granny.PNG](///raw/882/44/z/6be92.png)
Such an incredibly cool take on the theme! It's so refreshing to see such a wholesome, lighthearted game. I absolutely adore how cohesive everything feels - character designs, objects, color palette, sound design, and humor. Leaves you with such a warm aftertaste.
Totally reminded me of that old viral video where a woman rummages through her bag and freaks out finding a rat inside!)
very fun and such a cute artstyle!
oh this is cleaaaan. I love the art style and animations, and the writing is almost fairy-tale like with how granny kinda says the same thing each time but with different digs at each kid. Each level I'd look forward to see what little side comment she'd give and what random items she'd have in her bag. The gameplay is super smooth and intuitive, and I feel like the puzzles were at an appropriate difficulty for a jam. What a polished entry, incredible job!
Fantastic entry. The art is some of the best I've seen in LD, well done. The bit you chose for the writing is excellent, and it made me laugh every level. I appreciate how you slowly introduce the player to the puzzle of the game, the progression of levels was really well done. Each getting slightly more complex and building up different tools to solve the puzzles. The arm sprite was also just goofy.
One improvement would be to add some small animations. I think those would make the game "pop" even more, and might be a worthwhile trade-off to adding some of the later levels (though I don't know how long it took you to create each level).
Really well done though!
This was a lot of fun and I would've loved to continue to play more complicated levels. Only one adjustment might be that sometimes I would pull at an angle (like side to side) and it should work but wouldn't. I'd need to pull at the top right corner.
Loved the artstyle and writing it's super charming and cute!! like all the silly goofy things grandma has in her purse, some even make me question what grandma's up to especially with all those different identities lol.
I also really like how the theme was used here it's creative. I enjoyed the puzzles, I thought they were the right about of difficulty
Easiest 5-star ratings I've given in all of Ludum Dare. This is the kind of game I wish I would come up with. Brilliant.
I think I pressed the spacebar one too many times... and it bugged out. I was pressing spacebar to move to the next stage, I think? Basically just button mashed at the end of the stage. xD Screenshot 2025-04-12 222106.png
I did refresh and play again, and what a lovely little puzzler! :D Thank you for making this! :D Screenshot 2025-04-12 223331.png
Amazing game! artstyle is incredible and the take on the theme is hilarious. I do feel like the puzzles were a little bit easy, and wonder if the puzzle mechanics were strong enough to make many levels. Still an incredibly lovely experience!
My playthrough: https://youtu.be/Iufc5iME-FQ
Excellent entry! Loved the humor, and of course the puzzles as well.
I did encounter some minor quirky behavior, which helped me solve a puzzle possibly slightly easier than intended. In the second to last level, I was able to move the ID card to the right from this position:
grannys_gotcha.png
Honestly, I'm not sure what the intended behavior for this would be, so I don't even know if this counts as a bug. Everything else felt really solid for how unusual the central mechanic was. Very impressive work!
Very cute game! ~
Really liked the logic for how the granny's hand can turn corners and move candy — just wish it were harder and maybe had one more twist to explore these fun mechanics! Most of the levels have the slightly unfortunate property of getting easier with each request as the bag gets emptier and emptier, so the long levels especially feel pretty inevitable. I'd say that only the first candy cane level really put up any kind of challenge.
I also ran into some crashes with pressing Space too quickly/multiple times after completing a level, so very good job implementing saved progress: something that I never find time to do during jams. Very clutch!
What a great entry! :)
The visuals are nicely done. The small details, like the little kids getting angry when you pull out something wrong is a nice touch!
For my taste it was too easy and I'm not a big "puzzle brain". Having non moveable things or other game mechanics would add depth to the gameplay. As @kurakurture mentioned: Having a sound effect for grabbing things would be a good thing to have some feedback and it would make the game even more polished.
Speaking about polish. You've done an amazing job here. You have a clean level selector, good controls and a lot of sound effects and fitting music. Absolutely nailed it here! The details in the pocket like the fake ID and other things were nicely implemented. Funny interpretation of the theme. :)
Really fun game with a great sense of humour, I couldn't finish it but I really enjoyed what I played for. As someone else said, there's definitely a bit of a difficulty spike at the candy cane level going onwards but I sort of appreciated getting a lot of easy wins early on since it felt like I was progressing through the game rather than getting stuck right after the tutorial level like I have in some other puzzle games.
I absolutely love this. Amazing art, sounds and gameplay. Incredible.
Loved this! Suuper well polished entry, it was fun, it was a clever interpretation of the theme and the presentation was top notch, congrats!
My only feedback would be to change the "skip dialogue" wording of using the spacebar. I kept waiting for the dialogue to advance since I didn't want to skip it (as in, I thought it would skip the whole conversation). Maybe change it to "advance the dialogue"?
An easy to digest game, it had me playing until the end. Including story lines for each level fit great, and the difficulty fit a classic ramp up to teach the player by playing.
Perfect style. Nice gameplay. Simple and clean. Just add more animations & key poses and it will be perfect
Best cozy game on LD57
It's cozy and well executed, you think about it all : the narrative, the gameplay, the music, it's impressive for a jam game!
Art was so polished and what a mad fun idea - especially liked the creepy items in Granny's purse - really nailed it. Writing was top notch too!
this game is really amazing - very well done!
So funny and well designed game ! Love it
@0x-void-x0, @nepturenus, @LyaMgtt, @xWilQ, @Cr_nch, @cluster7ck, @dywanix, @vary, @tetracold, @sarafilipa, @mao, @ln404, @matthewdrake, @texugo, @nbumgardner, @yuri-antonov, @librory, @julienlussiez, @blushingcrow, @fix, @jacky-san: Thank you all so much for the kind and heartwarming comments! It really made our day to see that you enjoyed playing our little game. 💛
@kalabhers: Thanks so much! We will definitely leave a feedback on your game too! We already played your game and absolutely loved it — so a big special thanks in return for your lovely feedback!
@onlyallygrace: Thank you!! We definitely had a ton of fun making it!
@chloew: Thanks! You're totally right — we didn’t have much time to add sound in the first version. We’ve included a few effects in the post-fix build to improve player feedback, but there’s still plenty of room for more!
@kurakurture: Thanks a lot — and what great, detailed feedback! I completely agree, the lack of feedback was one of the things I found most frustrating as well. I tried to address it in the post-fix version, though grabbing and moving still lack sound (and they really should!). That’s something I want to fix in a future version — and use the opportunity to build a better SFX library for upcoming projects (currently I have two sounds I reuse for everything 😅).
@xivo, @rose: We’ve adjusted the game so that placing items above the top row as a workaround should no longer be possible. Thanks again for catching that! 💖
@ohjuliego: We really appreciated that suggestion and added the ability to hold down arrow keys to move faster in the hotfix version — super helpful feedback, thank you!
As for auto-retraction: I thought about it early on, but decided against it since it would reduce the challenge of repositioning larger items — which we wanted to preserve. But for single-tile items you’re absolutely right, that would have been a great feature!
@sadvest: That’s so funny — my boss had the exact same issue when playing 😄 We're from Germany, so candy corn isn’t really a thing here either. We’ve kept it in for now, but might swap it out for something more recognizable in the future. Thanks for sharing your experience!
@KinArt: Yep, the hotfix took a bit longer than expected — toddler at home + full-time job = time gets weird fast 😅 But we finally got there and managed to address most of the feedback. Thanks so much for your comment and rating!
@arthur-tang: Thanks for the lovely feedback! And we’re very glad we didn’t make that unintended top-row workaround more obvious before we removed it 😄 It’s fixed now in the post-fix version!
@tobius: Great point, thank you! Adding a few more animation frames would definitely make things smoother. I'll try to include that in a future update!
@megl: Thanks a lot! Yes, some moves were unintentionally blocked — that was a bug. It should be fixed in the post-fix version now!
@rincs: Oh no 😅 Yes, that was indeed a bug — the “next level” button wasn’t locked after being pressed, so multiple presses triggered overlapping scene loads. That should be fixed in the latest version. Thanks for reporting it!
@thomas-bringer: Thank you for the thoughtful comment! I’ve been wondering how far we can push the difficulty with this mechanic as well. We definitely plan to add some more challenging levels in the future and rework the older ones a bit.
@mikan: AHHH thank you!! We actually showed your playthrough to some friends last Sunday — it was so helpful (and fun)! ❤️
@caonosphere: Really great point — and something I hadn’t thought about! You're absolutely right: having multiple children only adds difficulty at the beginning, and the rest of the level gets easier. We’ll probably keep the current levels as-is, but I’ll definitely focus more on one-child setups in future levels. Thanks for the smart analysis!
@lllarso: Thanks for the comment! I agree — the current levels aren’t super tough. We wanted to ease players in at first. Non-moveable elements are a great i
Sorry for the others but for now this is my favorite game of the jam. It's very funny, the interpretation of the theme is surprising, the graphics and all the design are superb... the little phrases are excellent, the animations... and especially the little puzzle game... in short I love it... we played with my 10 year old son and we had a great time... plus the polish is great... it's awesome
Great game, and I'm very appriciative of the difficulty progression - really draws you in
An excellent game! Played all the way to the end! My only wish is that if the text is playing and space bar is pressed, it lets you skip ahead to see the full text instead of just skipping to the next dialogue. There was so much hilarious dialogue I accidentally skipped over because I'm too used to being able to press space to make all the text show. Great job!
Hoooo boy, the bass line in that melody? So good, and simple and jazzy. And Everything matches each other, it is so well coordinated: graphics, music, gameplay. Was super fun and I really enjoyed playing this one through and vibing to the music. Also, s'cuse me maam, why do you have a dead rat in your handbag???
It is very impressive how many levels you fit into 72 hours. Great job!
This looked so polished! Enjoyed the audio and graphics a lot! Some puzzles where pretty easy, but still fun to do. Loved playing it on my stream! Thanks for dropping me the link!
amazing work the later levels were really fun to solve. Its really polished and well thought out. good work!
Fun and cute, love it !
Fantastic entry, and probably one of the most polished ones this jam! It blows my mind how complete you managed to make it in just 72 hours. A cosy artstyle, an extensive selection of levels with increasing difficulty, and a running gag that never gets old ( unlike our protagonist ). What's not to love?
The little gags peppered in every few sections never failed to put a smile on my face. The pastel colouring makes the game feel warm and soft, and the select screen having Granny's trinkets for icons must be my favourite detail, design-wise. Very clever, working with what its' got instead of going with the run-of-the-mill number pad customary for the puzzle game genre.
Didn't try to reinvent the forumla, but didn't need to either. A textbook definition of a safe bet, shining bright and setting itself apart with the extra flair it's got. I'll leave it at that, so the praises don't sound oversang. Amazing stuff, can't wait to see your next submission!
I really liked this game! In my bag I always grab something other than what I'm looking for first  I approached the christmas level way too complicated, which made it take a really long time. The art is great and I also love her humor. Applause for your game!
First it's a game with a lot of charm !! This groovy music is perfect for puzzle game ! Visually very polished !! Really fun to play !!
Capture d’écran 2025-04-24 235210.png
WOW!!!
What a great game! What a fantastic idea.
Everything is beautiful! The drawings, the music, the jokes (for a moment I thought someone was going to ask for a tampon). The challenges were easy, but I could already imagine this game being released with some much more complicated puzzles.
I'm waiting for that day.
PS: I remembered my grandmother... she always had sweets for us. Sweets that she made herself.
Congratulations on the game.
