I was unable to get firing to work on keyboard/mouse, but I really like this idea! Has a lot of potential to be really fun with this card based system.

hakita 2018-04-24 13:44

Fun idea, could definitely be explored further to make a great game.

lemurstudio 2018-04-24 14:03

Hi, Sorry should have added controls. It is arrow keys to shoot and W,A,S,D to move around

mr-blue 2018-04-24 14:45

I wasn't able to get firing to work on my computer... The game has a lot of potential though. :)

justin 2018-04-24 15:18

@mr-blue, the arrow keys didn't shoot the bullets? On Linux or Windows?

Thank you for the feedback

mr-blue 2018-04-24 16:46

@Justin On Windows

lemurstudio 2018-04-24 17:20

@Mr. Blue thats really strange i just tested on windows now and it runs fine for me. Just to be clear you are using W,A,S,D as well as the arrow keys rights?

semichaut 2018-04-24 17:30

You had a very good idea ! You should continue to make it However the game is spoiled with a limited number of card and the music loop is quickly annoying

lemurstudio 2018-04-24 17:41

@Semichaut thank you for playing our game and appreciate your feedback :) We will be continuing to work on this.

rapter 2018-04-25 10:42

Nice game , 5/5 !!! Good luck!!!

lost-dutchman-software 2018-04-25 23:15

Fun game, I was getting into it then when paying to much attention to what cards I had I fell off the edge of the map lol, guess I should be more careful.

lemurstudio 2018-04-25 23:34

@Lost-Dutchman-Software in the rush to publish we forgot to add in the obvious things xD oops

aterlamia 2018-04-26 17:02

I now see you said to not forget to chose a deck before you start but i did not see that so boy i was confused. But i figured it out anyway. I would advice to force choosing before staring a game if you have an empty deck. Was a fun combination of shooting and cards. But was i fighting daleks ? :D looked like it

justin 2018-04-27 10:11

@aterlamia yeah there were a lot of little things like that that we wanted to add but never got around to unfortunately. And no they weren't daleks (didn't even know what daleks were till I googled it XD), just a really simple little enemy I made in a rush to not have capsule enemies XD (same as the player model) But now that you mention it they do kinda look like daleks ^^ thanks for the feedback mate

Interesting game, but what are those cube and sphere ? x)) The concept is really cool, but (I think it is because of the lacks of time) we unlock nothing when we finish a wave. The game is actually too simple I think and it lacks a tutorial. But the music is cool though.

Great entry, keep coding :)

arche-san 2018-04-27 21:48

Interesting Concept! Could be cool if the used cards go back to the deck directly (instead of being vanished forever) good job!

justin 2018-04-29 15:05

@arche-san They get used up for the round but once you beat the boss your "used pile" gets shuffled and you can then use it again in the next round. What we were going for is (a couple of waves of enemies + a boss) in every round and then have like 5 rounds with maybe the final round being a collection of all the previous bosses or something like that. We also wanted to have new cards drop from bosses so that you get rewarded for playing the game and can unlock new cards to add to your deck - but we didn't get that far. and only got as far as having the "same round" repeat over and over. So if you get to the boss and beat it, it will tell you to enter the next round and then you will get access to your fresh deck to try beat the round again. Thanks for your feedback and @mathiouza sorry about not having a tutorial to explain the game better.

I like the idea, reminds me a little bit of Phantom Dust. I like the variety of cards, my favorites were triple shot and FOV increase. I wish the move speed increase was slightly more powerful. The limited duration of each card was also a little bit confusing, at first I thought the cards were permanent. An on-screen timer or card indicator would have been very useful.

The graphics were a bit disappointing, I wish the environment and characters had more life and color, even if they are robots. I think the pace of the game was also a little bit slow. The waves felt pretty repetitive because there was no change in enemy types so you could just keep running in circles and shooting behind you. Which was very effective, but also somewhat boring. More enemy types, more enemy movement patterns, faster waves, or faster enemy spawning would have made this more interesting.

I really like that you gave the player full deck customization. A lot of the other card games in the jam used "draft" style interfaces, or a preset deck of cards. Getting to pick everything beforehand was fun, and added an element of strategy to the game.

I fell of the game border and got stuck. Had to alt F4 to start again. Very hard to play with a non qwerty keyboard but still manageable and fun. A bit annoying the fact that I had to reselect all the cards each time I started a new game (which I did because I am very bad and liked the game).

justin 2018-05-06 13:12

@blushine Thank you for your feedback :) we definitely wanted to add on-screen timer's and all that good stuff, but we struggled with the time limit to get everything in. But we were happy to have something semi-fun to submit as this was our first successful submit :) we tried to make something for LD 38 I think it was but we unfortunately didn't have anything submit-able. Hopefully our LD42 submission will be a bit more polished :)

justin 2018-05-06 13:15

@jojocanard out of interest, what keyboard are you using if its not a qwerty keyboard? I can imagine any game that uses WASD movement would be pretty tough with a non-qwerty keyboard? Also yeah I'm sorry about the alt F4 dilemma... in the rush we forgot to add the simplest stuff XD Thanks for the feedback, glad you enjoyed it even after having to alt f4 <3

This actually got my game design mind grinding quite a bit! If you put this concept onto a side-scrolling shooter where you could "invest energy into options" (see: Gradius) I could really see this doing well. Great music, too!

jojocanard 2018-05-06 19:44

@justin I am using an azerty keyboard (french) Therefore the a and w are in a very different position and yes it is really hard to play :p I should have changed my keyboard mode to simulate qwerty but I was in the mood for a challenge I guess ! ^^
