The games controls feel nice, and looks well polished overall
@Pixels Everywhere Thank you, I was having difficulty with those.
Loved the genre combo, I was really struggling switching tasks. Although I think I may have got then high score by accident

@BlackAtlas Hahahahaha, well done (that's a really annoying, inconsistent bug XD) Very glad you enjoyed it.
Compo version definetly missing some functionality, but its a funny idea.
I liked playing this game. The controls respond nicely and it looks good. It's really challenging though and I kept mixing up the keys to steer and to talk to the kids. Got lucky on my last run and got a high score of 107 MPH because the kids were quit for a long time and I could focus on the driving.
@Lecalat I know, I broke it just before the deadline as I was trying to add the voiceovers. @RadioactiveRambo Hahahahaha, glad you enjoyed.
Wow, except from a few minor bugs this was very well polished :) There is a lot of time in between crashing and starting a new round, so that gets annoying after a while. All in all I would say this is a really good game!
@Tim Eriksen Thank you! I'll take that into account when I work on it next.
Didn't think I'd like the art style at first but I really dig it, good work
I played it a few times... I wanted to hear the kids and dad audio!
Nice job... enjoyable and fun to play.
I really like the controls for the car. feels really nice when you turn. well done!
@CapnAT Glad I could sway your opinion! Wish I had had more time to improve it though, I love pixel art! @schizoid2k Very happy to hear those frantic recordings were worth it XD @SeaHam Thank you!
I enjoyed playing this game, it feel s pretty nice.
@Chris Magnuson Thank you!
This game is cool. I like the multitasking concept. The game's animations are very smooth and nice. Great job! I would suggest to change the font for the instructions (it should stay elsewhere).
Good match for the theme and audio is just amazing! Well done!
it was ok
@CameronJSamuels Yes, I was thinking of that, I'm planning on making a more legible one in the near future. @Borodar Thank you! Was really tough being so tired and all that XD @PoundTheGroundStudios At least something. What would've made it better? (apart from cyborg nazi alien zombies in frilly dresses)
Fun little game! Had fun playing it.
@coatline Glad you did!
Voice recording are incredable. "Hi hungry. I'm dad!" hit me.
Cool concept, and voice over was great idea.
@Kensou Hahahahahaha, thanks, it's so cheesy though XD @JackKm Thank you!
Loved the voice over, it was funny !.
The combination is good and the idea was too but I felt the difficulty a bit steep from the beginning, or maybe I suck at it :P
Enjoyed playing the game. The combination keeps you on your toes. It did seem that occasionally, I would find myself flying straight towards a car in each lane that overlap horizontally so there is no possible way through. Other than that issue which made it feel like a force lose when I was doing well, it was a great game.
Welcome to Ludum Dare by the way!
So i was just trying to have a relaxing drive with my family on our way to visit my rich aunt who's intermittence i depend on to make it through next month and suddenly i crashed, but then, it seems like it was all a dream, and then i crashed again, and again, and then this happened
asdsad.PNG
Well, the game is definitely interesting but i really wasn't able to make it too far without crashing my car nor did i get to experience what happened if my "jerk" got all the way up, in any case, cool game :) great work. also, hello sleepy i am dad xD.
Originally there weren't any lorries, so you actually had enough space to squeeze between paralell cars. @Kichex It's not you, it's a feature for added replayability! (I just couldn't get the difficulty right.) @James-Dunlap I know, RNG. Thank you! @Q-ro Hahahahaha, thanks! Reloading usually helps, the Jerk actually goes down for bad answers and seconds passed (incrasing the likelyhood of getting a "Can I open my door?" or "Daddy look!" swerve), whereas good answers reduce the risk. (Boring) The difficulty is way too high, see the top half of this comment. Glad you enjoyed it!
the control feels so good! gut game :D
Great controls, and losing feels really good, nice collisions there!
I'm so terrible at this game, but it's pretty damn funny so it doesn't really matter. Great work on this, really enjoyed it!
@agar3s Thank you @reuno "Losing feels great" Never thought I'd hear that XD @LandoSystems Glad you enjoyed!
Hey, I broke your game lol.
I'm not sure if you saw, but I played your game on my stream tonight https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames
I figured out that if you drive at the very top of the screen you don't really run into enemies, and you can get going over 100 mph.
I did like the combination of genres.
Cool concept with very good game controls and physics and a lovely artwork, everything being well integrated to provide a pleasant overall experience, good job  :red_car:
A solid 4.5 for me - scoring very highly everywhere but graphics. I wish I was good enough to hear the rest of the story daddy tells :)
Great game, found it really easy though by just driving on the top of the screen.
Great theme interpretation. Everything runs smoothly - I'll be coming back to this game later.
This game is hilarious. I'd love to have such car! :D
Great little game, and simple intuitive controls. The voiceovers are hilarious, good work!
@saoi-games I wasn't watching at the time, but I caught up on it today and didn't regret it! I intentionally added that in for the observant players so they could discover all the dialogue (no I didn't). Glad you had fun with it! PS: Good job with pronouncing masochistic! Not an easy word that is! @nidup Why thank you, I'm glad it turend out to be a 'quality experience' XD @fasterthanlime Hahahahaha, no worries, most of it is dead ends as I ran out of time. I wish I could've improved the graphics as well, but in the end the placeholders where still there... @Bitten-Toast-Games That's called cheating! XD @vilix64 Glad to hear it! @rajtar Well you could start by creating a post on Kickstarter XD @rosypenguin Thank you!
Nice idea, works well. Gets frustrating when you get in a situation you can't maneuver out of though!
@Lyje Indeed, I couldn't figure out how to fix that.
@Blinkenlights yeah, that sort of stuff is tough on a jam deadline! Never easy to ensure random/procedural elements never break gameplay.
Nice game, but the font could be a bit more readable
@JanWe I agree, I'll work on a better font for next time.
This should be used for some ad for texting/driving lol. Funny game, pretty tough to focus on everything.
@ctran13 Hahahahaha, what a brilliant idea! Why didn't I think of that before? XD Glad you enjoyed it.
Found myself playing it over and over again, trying to get to the end, so good job there!
What worked: Controls, unique gameplay everytime.
What needs some polish: Font
@Drell Now that's some structured feedback! I'll make sure to improve that in the next LD!
This is good fun and nice smooth playback - The font is near impossible to read though 🙃
@Lewis-Quaife Yes, others have pointed that out too, I'll certainly change the font I use for the next Jam.
Nice game, love how the steering feels. Few times I found myself in situations where I don't think it was possible to not crash. Other than that good submission!
@soldierbear Thanks! Yes, that was a problem I couldn't get round to fixing.
Fun game. Steering felt solid although a little slow at turning sometimes, voice overs were excellent!
@Carvster I agree, I took ages trying to make them quicker but I'm terrible at maths I'm afraid so I couldn't figure it out.
your game is cool, the jokes are funny and i liked the gameplay of the 2 genres using only the arrow keys.
Steering the car feels really nice and smooth. Great voice acting too!
The game is a lot of fun!
**Positive** - I like your voice acting and the sound. - I like the realization, the idea and the combination of these two genres - It makes fun
**Negative** - Maybe it is a little bit to hard in the beginning. I don't came very far. And it was a little bit frustrating. - The font is a little bit hard to read.
**Little bug** - after the 4th restart the game freezes in the "cardriving" scene
Nice and solid entry!
Man I loved this game, its too real, fantastic! Great voice work! I have to agree with @Rahtainka tho, the game is a little bit hard right from the beginning, which is not necessarily a bad thing, the controls work great, the car handles a little too heavy maybe... "We never made it to aunt`s house... Oh well, we didnt even like her anyway daddy" Great job Man!
@Jaime-Paz-Lopes Thank you! Yes using only the arrow keys seems to make it easier for both of us XD @Dovakla Thanks! @Rahtainka Brilliant and structured feedback! I'd give you two Karma if I could... @Eudes-Franco Hahahahaha, brilliant comment, I'll have to add that to the a crash texts! (If that's alright with you?)
@Blinkenlights Of course man, go for it! :D
The jam version actually works quite well, but it's still ridiculously hard. The crashing physics are satisfying, which somewhat lessens the frustration. I liked the voice acting and the jokes quite a lot, but I would have loved to hear more of it before dying. Maybe being able to slow down and in turn getting more annoying comments would be an option to consider? Anyway, after playing this I am both amused and dad.
Haha, that was fun. Played the Jam version and somehow cheesed it with the red lane. Cars didn't spawn there so sat there enjoying the conversation with the kids. Felt like a normal road trip, lol.
The controls were solid but the car itself was super heavy, so getting some tight escapes was tough. Otherwise it was great. Good job!
Good job! Cool game!
I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/witchs-escape
I'm a lousy driver, but I kept replaying to hear your excellent audio. Great idea, thanks!
Great idea of gameplay. I think that sounds are just awesome. Car is easy to controll. Good Job!
@phi Hi dad! Certainly an interesting concept, I'll fiddle around with that. @gi11 *No* cars spawned there? Well lucky you, there should be a 1/100 chance each time a car is spawned that it gets put on that stretch of road. Or I messed something up. Or the children sabotaged it. I plan on making the steering more responsive, but I guess until then, it's just another expensive car with heavy gold plating underneath. Glad you enjoyed! @cristiano-m-garcia The pleasure shall be mine. @Introspex At least I dide *something* well XD @TheFlyingKeyboard Master of steering, I bow before you. Everyone else found it really difficult XD
This was great! Played both Compo and Jam versions but had fun with the Jam most. The audio really makes it feel special and bonus points for voice work! Not enough of it in LD :) Wonderful work!
@designernap Thanks! I was thinking that too, and it isn't too much work either. Well, sort of...
The game does not load for me. After the Unity loading screen it just stays gray... Windows 10 with Edge as well as Chrome.
@smbe19 That's odd, what about Firefox? I'll do some testing to see if I can figure it out.
Great concept of the game! Avoiding crashing is too difficult for me, there's always a place where a road is jam-full of cars. I would change font because it's hard to read. Keep up the good work!
@Nannah Thanks! Yes, I couldn't fix the RNG that controlled the car-spawning, and I'm planning on making a better font.
Googd job with this!
Perhaps it would be nice if the car would be able to turn faster (to make a tight scapes with the cars). And there is in some points where cars spawn perhaps ¿so close?
Anyway, I feel in the most part of the gameplay that I can avoid the cars and answer the childs but I dont feel childrens annoying in the gameplay (perhaps they could affect on the controls of the car?)
It's a solid jam submission.
Good job!
@Ethereal-Psyche-Games The lower your Jerk is, the more likely the children will make you swerve. I admit the swerving isn't very strong when it's there, but it's there nevertheless. I plan on making the steering tighter, but I just ran out of time (as you do). Glad you enjoyed!
YESSS! This game is a lot of fun. I love the element of risking the safety of children because they themselves are being demanding.
It's a fun idea and i love the voice over, but it's a little bit hard to control the car. I like the idea of choosing what to say to the children, good job ^^
FYI - the game requires WebGL 2.0 - the only one I encountered so far, so it doesn't work on my laptop. I'll try to play it on my desktop at home eventually.
Maybe this is only an export option?
@theprint Thank you, I didn't think about it that deeply but now you say it... @ema1ih Thanks! Yes, the steering is hard. @mshopf Yes, I was having difficulty with WebGL 1 early in development, so I took it out and forgot about it. I'll see whether it'll run on WebGL 1 as soon as I get round to it.
This is a fun little idea. I really like the voice acting. I wish there weren't so many cars so close to each other so soon. It seems like I always end up being in between a rock and a hard place since there's no speed control and only 3 lanes. Being your first proper game, though; very impressive! It's very well put together.
@Aim Thanks, was a lot of fun! I didn't get to fiddle around with the RNG or anything around it, so the difficulty is very badly managed I'm afraid. But that was mainly because I was trying to get to grips with things like "leftChoice.transform.Find('Line2').gameObject.GetComponent
- love voice acting in the game wish more games did this - the conversations were great - car turning felt good
- try cleaning up your audio recording with audacity it's easy and makes the game sound much more professional, also have all the sound files be faded in and out at the ends to remove that popping noise from files. - I found some times where it looked like 3 cars in a row and it was impossible to get out of the way
Geez Daddy, have you not heard of slowing down or hitting the brakes?
This was quite an enjoyable, but quick game. I didn't really go over 75 MPH, or if I did, I never acquired a screenshot as proof. I loved the dialogue, and when Dad jokes are paired with actual voices doing the talking, it's such a perfect match that I can't help but be amused. What I really like about the voice acting is that even though I can tell it's the same person doing the voices, the tone and inflection suggest different characters, making them a bit more recognizable from each other.
I do agree with some of the other comments that the font was overall pretty hard to read. Combined with the fast paced gameplay, I often had to quickly guess match because I couldn't quite pick out what the choices were. That, however, did make it kind of fun, as even choosing the general nudge towards the answers would lead to you saying something I should have expected, but didn't. And that was kind of funny.
I also noticed that sometimes, the game would easily lose focus whenever I started a new game - the steering controls would cause me to scroll down the entire page rather than steer in the game. Strangely enough, the times those happened, I didn't actually run into any cars, so phew. :relieved:
One thing I did find quite annoying was that it was pretty easy to die in the game, but there wasn't really a fast enough respawn. I would have liked it if, when you hit the "Ctrl" key, that the game just automatically starts you from the actual game itself rather than going back to the titlescreen, which will make it more engaging for players to immediately start replaying the game the moment they die. Then, you could perhaps have another key that brings up the instructions/intro again in case people need to reference them again.
The idea was very funny, and I think the fact that you have "Dad road trip" dialogue combined with somewhat chaotic gameplay, which in turn affects how well you drive, there is a really nice formula here for a humourous, fast paced game.
@Jonathan-Daar Thanks for the structured feedback! Some really good hints with audacity, I'll delve into that! @Random-storykeeper Brilliant feedback! Not sure why you're losing focus, but I'll see if I can fix it. I plan on speeding up the respawn speed, it's a good idea to have the help separately. Glad you enjoyed!
The voice acting is top! Super funny game and it taught me how quickly I'll die if I have to talk to children while driving. VERY QUICKLY.
@Lost-Dutchman-Software Thank you! I'm glad you've learned this important lesson of life. XD
Cool idea! I found that in general, there was far too much RNG to feel as if I could realistically survive for very long, but with some balance changes I could see this being pretty fun.
Some other minor criticism: - The audio starts/ends are pretty noticeable and abrubt right now; having some background audio and putting the dialogue through a noise reduction pass could help fix that. - Occasionally the restart would break the game (it would start, but the car wouldn't move and there were no other vehicles); I'd have to do a full refresh of the page to fix it - Given how difficult it is, having a couple hits of tolerance before losing the game would be nice
Having said that, this is really impressive for a first proper attempt at a game. Well done!
@Sean-S-LeBlanc I couldn't agree more, I learned so much and am really looking forward to the next one! Thanks for the wonderful feedback!
The game is super fun. I've fallen in love with the style of the old graphics. Very good work.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed!
