Love the art style. Such... circus like.

merrak 2018-04-23 23:52

I thought this was a great concept! -- a platformer with a bit of a programming aspect to it. It'd be helpful to have a few more details on the cards (like how strong the jump/move/slide is), but what you have at the moment works really well. I'll come back to it when it's done.

dekobii 2018-04-24 02:52

Great concept!

rosypenguin 2018-04-24 03:05

Fun idea and cute graphics! I found the ticket effects to be kind of unpredictable and I'd end up just using one ticket each round instead of setting up multiple as I imagine the game is intended. I agree that there should be a description for each ticket. Great work!

ryan-bishop 2018-04-24 03:11

Really cool idea! It was a little confusing at first, but once i figured out how the tickets affected me i started having fun. I feel like with enough work, this could sell easily. My only complaint is not being able to grab a different ticket when i'm already holding one, or just being able to put it back.

packnslash 2018-04-24 03:14

A bit tricky to get the hang of, but really addicting to master!

chainedlupine 2018-04-24 03:53

Poor raccoons, always looking for the trash..

mishajams 2018-04-24 04:32

This is pretty fun!

eriku 2018-04-24 04:33

Difficult! I couldn't make it quite past half way. It's hard to estimate where the moves will take you, and sometimes you really just need to stay put and burn tickets until you get what you need. But definitely a nice concept. Well done.

balladofsong 2018-04-24 16:46

I love the graphics, the mechanics were a bit hard to understand without instructions.

noumenus 2018-04-24 17:54

@kamtar thanks!

@merrak Thanks, putting more info on cards would be a good idea!

@Dekobii thanks!

@rosypenguin thanks, yes I will look into putting more info on cards.

@Ryan Bishop Yea that was something I really wanted to add in but didn't have the time for it

@PackNSlash Thanks, I'm glad it's addictive hehe

@chainedlupine haha

@mishajams thanks!

@ErikU Thanks! It is definitely a design flaw I will have to figure out

@BalladofSong Thanks, I will put instructions on the page if I have time

Thank you all for playing!

I love it. Super addicting after a few rounds. Frustrating up front but given its a game jam I can't imagine a full tutorial, after you figure out the cards though it gets wicked exiting. It's a challenge to win and it makes it very, very fun!

jaime-paz-lopes 2018-04-24 22:35

i had the same problems that others players. the tickets have unpredictable effect and many times the tickets i had were bad, so i just throw them away.

lost-dutchman-software 2018-04-25 00:35

I love the concept but like many people said, there's a bit of a difficulty curve. With a little refinement though, I think this could be an awesome full release.

jhandsy 2018-04-25 05:26

I love all the weird action card games this time around! This game is not too dissimilar to mine! I think making the movement cells larger so that there were less options spatially would ease up the difficulty a little bit. It also took me a while to realize I had to place the ticket ON the raccoon.

freebo 2018-04-25 10:58

I think this was a nice idea. After a few tries I managed to get all the way to the right side of the sceen, but I got stuck behind the green thing. With some tuning this could be a very entertaining game. Maybe you should add a "Turn" ticket instead of the game mechanics handling this by its own. Also a "shoot" ticket could be interesting where you have to calculate where the enemies are moving before you decide on where to place it. All in all a nice game. Thanks!

iaaac 2018-04-26 14:55

Great combination, but the RNG nature of the cards kinda makes this impossible sometimes. I just have really bad luck. It was a bit weird to have cards that look like they'd do similar things such as dive and slide. Otherwise, great idea and good job

nidup 2018-04-26 15:03

What a great concept & mix of gameplay, i love the artwork and the circus theme, tickets effects are sometimes a bit unpredictible or you don't have the good one to move on, however, very solid entry, congratz :thumbsup:

torcado 2018-04-26 19:21

this game is great! i love raccoons and this is no exception. the beginning placement is a bit weird in my opinion, i basically ended up just restarting until i got a jump or leap card to get me on that ledge. The facing direction was a little arbitrary too, at some points i just couldn't progress because he was facing the wrong way. but eventually i did beat it! very nice job :grin:

rombus 2018-04-26 23:38

I like the genres that you've pick, the game feels solid and looks nice, although at first I spend some time with a little trial and error to se how it would behave.

Solid entry!

the-noffs 2018-04-26 23:53

@noumenus Solid game. It's a really cool concept and I like the potential it has for a complex dynamic interaction mechanism of being able to stack actions. The art and sounds felt good. The learning curve was steep, but it felt fun & low-risk to experiment and get a feel for how each of the tickets worked. I didn't find the RABIES or JUMP cards too useful: I ended up discarding them immediately in favour of LEAP/DIVE/MOVE. It'd be cool to see a post-jam version where you could see in advance hints about where you'd end up after each card, to plan bigger move sets. Still feels a little clunky in UI and character movement, but really nice idea and very impressive execution given time constraints! Hope you consider expanding upon this idea post-jam!

ninjascribble 2018-04-27 03:41

That was awesome! I love having to deal with the hand you're given, and come up with interesting ticket combinations in order to survive until the next round. Somehow I managed to get turned around a couple of times -- you might consider adding a "turn" ticket into the mix to give players more control over their facing. One of my favorite combinations was placing a "jump" ticket right on top of a "rabies" ticket, then watching the angry raccoon hop up and down while taking out any animal control dudes foolish enough to cross its path. Overall, great game -- thanks for sharing!

caleblewis 2018-04-28 03:34

A card-game platformer, an interesting combination. I like the game and the concept, but it would be nice if there was either some more draw variety (I got stuck somewhere and had to wait for a jump or a leap to continue on, took way too long) or add in some kind of mulligan re-draw system, like Magic's (shuffle hand back into deck, draw a new hand with one less card).

caterein 2018-04-28 20:44

Really cute idea and execution! The sound effects were great. I do wish there had been a bit more instruction at first on where to place the cards (occasionally I placed them just off the grid from the raccoon and would lose my turn) and a way to turn around Raccard if he ended up facing the wrong way. I'd be interested to see if you continue working on this one!

robber 2018-04-29 14:04

superfun concept that reminds me a bit of the incredible machine, love it.. a little critique is i can't cancel and choose another ticked once I've clicked on one, other than that this game is solid fun

theamazingb 2018-05-01 17:24

This is an awesome game. As someone else mentioned, I wish I could cancel my choices. Other than that it's perfect.

cristiano-m-garcia 2018-05-05 18:18

Good job! Cool game!

I left my rating of your game, if you can leave your feedback in our game, Witch's Escape.

I hope you continue with the project.

OK so first I was like "this lacks a tutorial level where you can tell by how many cells each ticket makes you move" but then I got caught up in the game all the way until VICTORY (650 points :-3) and I gotta say... I really enjoyed the hell out of it! This is a really neat game! Well-executed, not bugged-up - a lot or people took regular gameplays and mixed them with "turn-based" somehow, and your game is the most successful of these I tried so far... I really enjoyed that, thanks a lot for making this experience for us to check out, it's been a blast :-D

mufinmcflufin 2018-05-12 14:59

In general a great game. I really enjoyed the theme and humor, and the feeling of trying to plot out how your next turn is going to go only for it to fail spectacularly.

I do wish you could de-select cards in the event you change your mind or accidentally select the wrong card, or similarly be able to return cards back to your hand for the same reason. I also had trouble understanding exactly which direction I was going to be moving when I landed on platforms, and the walls weren't very obvious why they applied to the player but not the NPCs (perhaps doors to illustrate that the people can get through them, but not a raccoon?) but besides those few minor gripes, still a very enjoyable game.
