Looks pretty nice! And the music is amazing!
Great looks, Graphics,audio...rhythm + acceleration based gameplay thought.... took me forever to get out of that early early ditch. Gotta git gud^^
I really did enjoy the game a lot. The graphics were cool, themusic was fun and upbeat and the game was a challenge. I got stock on the last part of the wall jumping level, I found it difficult to time the jumps properly for the entire way up while also focusing on the arrow keys. I would suggest making the heart beat match the beat of the music. I tried playing the with and without music. While I still got stuck on the wall jump level, I found that playing without music was easier because the beat being off from the heart beat really does make the game more difficult. I didn't want to to turn off the music because it really was fun. I think one of your next steps would be to match the beat of the music to the heart beat, another step wouldbe to make it so that you don't have to deal with arrow keys when wall jumping, maybe a little more distance from a wall jump? I'm not going to nitpick about tuning like that, but if you do tune the game a little bit it would be that much better. I enjoyed the game, good job!
Nice job with the art!
Music is very good as well, it's good to have that predictable drum kick in rhythm games
I'm not sure if I'm totally inept at rhythm games or there's some input lag on my keyboard, but I never figured out how to consistently get boosts :(
Oh! Also there were some strange visual artifacts that I've seen before in pixel-art games that use some sort of tiling system. Not sure if gamemaker has a "perfect pixel" mode for 2d rendering, but another option to try might be to make the background tiles a pixel bigger than they have to be.

Great job on this @joltjab , watching you on stream, I could tell you put alot of effort into this game! The graphics are great buddy! and the concept fits the theme, while being humorous at best! I enjoyed running around, found the controls hard to get used to at first, but I can see this being a full fledged game in the future! ;)
This game is a lot of fun to play and it's such a good experience. The music sounds great too. :). The art is really good and the physics feel just right.
Fun game! Saw you on ElysiaGriffin's Twitch stream and thought it looked cool -- love the sound effects at the end! A little polishing, and you can have a sweet mobile game!
@TSK thanks dude I'm super proud of the music!
@radow you're right. I made it a bit too rough. Got a little blind to the difficulty. I'm gonna keep that in mind for the next one. Thanks for your comments!
@Arun Donti no man I appreciate nit picks like that! It's the little thing you gotta get right. Yeah the rhythm broke right at the end. Thought I fixed it in time, but I guess I was still a little off. I'll be sure to keep stuff like that in mind for next time.
@markopolodev Yeah I think I may have had the rhythm off. Thought I had it right, but I can see I need to work on it. So it probably was the game and not you!
As for the artifacts. It's because I needed to set up my tiles a certain way. It's never really been a problem in the past so I haven't done it. But I ran out of time and couldn't fix it. New games I make from now on won't do that. Thanks for pointing it out. It is something I should have fixed.
@Gamekrazzy thanks dude! Yeah I worked myself sick (probably should have slept more) doing my best on it. But I do agree that the controls certainly need fixing up. A bit of polish, maybe this could be a fun little game.
@kittyinthestudio thanks man! Currently heading over to try out your game! Glad to hear you liked what I made!
This was a super interesting idea and take on the theme! I really loved the graphics in particular. I had a difficult time jumping on the beat, the heartbeat icon almost seemed a little out of time with the music or something? Was a bit tricky but overall very fun and great submission!
I really loved the artstyle of this! It was a little hard to time the jumps for some reason, but when you did hit them it felt really good :) The music was really cool too :) Nice work, man!
That was something hard to combine! But I think you did a really good job! I dont know if it was me, but I didnt felt like I was on beat, but ingame it wasnt. So it was really hard for me to be on beat. When I was on beat it felt really great, but knowing whether I was to fast or to slow would be good. Also the beat was shown by the heart at the top left right? I think the beat should be shown everywhere. Maybe the whole level shows it (that would be hard to do) or maybe (easier to do) just the player shows the beat. He could just bob his head on beat. Cheers
@joltjab Try turning off AO. It might fix the issues with tiling artifacts. Anyway, love the art! The audio is pretty good too, although it's not suited well for a rhythm game. Too many in-between beat notes, and no base whatsoever. The genres are definitely incompatible, and I like how you executed on that (although the music makes it VERY hard to actually platform).
Good job, and good luck!
Had a bit of a problem figuring out how to jump up the steep walls at first but then I figured it out. Also got the graphics tiling bug thing. All in all a great game!
Really fun character and the concept it's almost there, look like a little bit rough, but it's fun... I really enjoy this and the character it's really funny. Cool concept.
The wall jumps were pretty hard so I don't know if I was doing them properly but I still had fun with this and enjoyed the mix of themes. Really cool.
I am not fun of platformers. But was really surprised with this game. Very interesting using of double press on key. I never met this before. If you like rhythm games you can check myhttps://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/the-king-of-the-hill
Great use of the theme! I had fun with this one. Took me a bit to get the timing down (I find it's about a 1/16 note off) but after that it became easier. I enjoyed the pixel work and the audio suited the game nicely. I was determined to get to the top haha good submission! SRR.png
I think the timing might be just slightly off but this is a great looking game for a weekend job!
artwork is pretty nice and i liked the music, but i was really struggling with the controls, for me trying to time the key presses with the music never seemed to work for running or jumping, not sure if i was meant to be following the music or the heart, it seemed to work better with the heart. Still made it through a few levels before some wall jumping section was too much for me.
Hey, my friend showed me your stream where you played my PeaDucks game the other day, that was cool. Good job finding the hidden stuff while trying to break out of the map! (the pointless plain in the empty area you found originally contained another secret item, but since I didn't want to make people search for it all the way out there I removed it).
Now to your game. That jumping mechanic on rhythm really took some getting used to but was actually quite fun once I got the hang of it. I think this could be a really cool mechanic to expand upon later. As for actually getting the cluck... those sounds are a clear and functional indicator that the player should close the game now. XD
@goat-toaster-games, @gamesplusjames, @bluemirror, @aumbra, @balance686, @lots-dutchman-software, @automatonvx Thanks guys for your feedback! Yeah I can see I had a problem with the rhythm (the heart was suppose to line up with the beat) and will make sure if I do a rhythm game again in the future, the rhythm will line up better. Goofed a bit on that one, but will work hard on the next one! Thanks for the feedback!
@notpresident you gave a really good critique there! Yeah I agree the song didn’t seem to fit with a rhythm game. Once I get a little more music experience I should be better in future rhythm game. Also I don’t know what AO means in this context. I know AO as “Ambient Occlusion”, which the game does have. Thanks again dude, I agree fully on all your points and will strive for better results on the next game.
@cg-fred The tiling bug was an unfortunate problem I couldn’t fix in time. Sorry about that dude.
@kami-86 thanks dude! I was thinking the same thing. Interesting idea that if pushed a little more could be kind of cool! It’s almost there. Will keep in mind for next time.
@alex13 thanks dude! And I’ll be sure to give your game a try/rate!
@iak yeah your game was fun! I enjoyed going around trying to “escape the game” and finding a bunch of hidden things. Don’t know if I found them all, but it was neat! And thanks for playing my game!
I tried so hard, but I'm just trash at rhythm games (even though Necrodancer is my one my all time favourites - I'll probably never beat Aria...). The movement and platforming felt good and getting it right must feel amazing, but I never managed to do that unfortunately :slight_frown:
So from a newb's perspective * a more pronounced beat visualisation than the heart would be great * more leeway in terms of hitting the beat * a meatier, bassier track would be probably easier to hit
DAT CLUCK DOE. Thoroughly enjoyed the platforming elements though as you said the rhythm is a bit off. Thoughtful use of theme and chickens! 5/5 for fun!
What a clucking fantastic ending to the game! not often does an ending make you want to carry on playing for another 30 seconds :D The beat itself I think is so close to being accurate. It seems you just need to predict the beat, even press it a split second before the beat to get it to register, but its really satisfying when you get into the flow of it and start doing beat after beat. I think maybe if the heart was closer to the character, or if he bobbed his head to the beat or something, could have helped as I found watching the heart made it easier to jump on time but it was way up out of the way in top left. Visuals were great, though I did experience the tile tearing (lines between tiles showing). Levels were well designed and required you to slowly progress through combos. I'm imagining how a different beat would allow for different level designs, and that makes the expand-ability of this game actually pretty decent. Good work bud - your sprite work is great, be nice to see some more environments next time too <3
I found my cluck! I saw your game in @rebecca-kremer's stream and I wanted to give it a try myself. I had fun playing, and I love the music. :musical_note: Strangly, I found jumping a gap more difficult than climbing my way up. I didn't use the double tap on A or D to speed.
Well done!
