LD39 — Running out of Power

Powerpoint Panic by KevKevOnFire 2017-08-01T16:28:54Z

Novel concept and I got a great number of laughs out of it, but unfortunately for me the gameplay got stale pretty quickly. I'd love to see some hidden gems or super-powered buzzwords buried in the stack of slide components to give you the boost you need. Also, it's pretty loud, but the droning noise is great.

Powering Down by jwin 2017-08-03T00:09:14Z

I really enjoyed the game. The mechanics were interesting, though frustrating at times (namely that drop past all the turrets, I ended up speeding past all the enemies). It looks good, it plays well, and while I agree with the small consensus that hotkeys would be useful for toggling systems, the menu didn't feel too bad for me. Overall I really liked it, and you got high marks from me.

e Negative by jhandsy 2017-08-01T21:02:26Z

I really enjoyed this game, and I love the slowdown mechanic. Some of the fights felt a bit off, something like a block would have been nice to deal with the guys with shields, but overall it was a ton of fun. I love your visual style, and even my teammate (who isn't a fan of the art) had to give you props for keeping it consistent and stylized throughout. Really great and really solid.

Tip to you: Enemies snapping their aim to you right before they fire can feel a bit cheap. I saw a turret starting to line up a sawblade and jumped right before it would fire, but it immediately pointed up and shot my nuts and bolts off.

Tip to people playing: It gets a bit easier when you realize you can reflect the sawblades by hitting them.

Lost in the Dark by Schu 2017-08-01T04:56:40Z

367.60 was my score. You caught my interest with the lasers, and that's a really cool use of your darkness mechanic, but the levels are a test of patience with trial and error, as taking untested paths may lead to you not having enough power, even with a pellet. I love the concept but the execution was frustrating. Also, I agree with SnipZ, VERY LOUD. Nice music, though.

Echo by swav_gav 2017-08-01T16:30:35Z

The graphics are gorgeous and it fit the theme nicely, but I found the combat to be a little underwhelming. I actually enjoyed it more when I was hitting things to open up gates. Some more "player feedback" in the combat would go a long way, such as hit sounds or knockback. Still, it looks great, and it's fully functional.

Blow the Hen Down by NickZangus 2018-08-18T20:51:53Z

Very fun little game. I beat it on my first attempt, though I did have the deck almost completely overrun at one point. I love the use of the theme and the humor. The only criticism I have is the constant voice barks got old after a little while, I wish they came at a slower rate. Everything else was fantastic!

Chromadice by AugusteTheClown 2018-08-19T02:21:03Z

@madamin-z Sorry you couldn't figure our game out! We wanted to put some kind of in-game tutorial or a big help screen, but I couldn't work it out at the time and just settled on a big block of text on the page.

@devharts Glad you liked it! We are considering expanding it later, and we were working on animations but they didn't make it in before the deadline. I'll take the blame there for not helping my programmer enough with that aspect.

Hiding Spot by toboggan 2018-08-18T03:37:38Z

I really enjoyed this game, though I got stuck on level 10. Overall it was fun and I enjoyed trying to figure out the puzzles. The graphics are simple but consistent and do their job nicely.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

C://TEXTRIS.EXE by Ryan Gannon King 2018-05-02T01:10:34Z

I absolutely loved this concept, my team has been following this game since we saw your blog showing early gameplay. The sound and visual design are fantastic, and the concept is great. I'm not very good at it, but that's no reason to take off points. I did find one bug though, every tetromino drop triggered the word "hack" after I put a "HACK" line piece into the end of a line where there was still a 'K' below it, so it made the word hack without ever clearing it. Stop The Munchies by Sarah 2018-04-24T03:45:34Z

I really like the idea behind this game, and the graphics are simple but cute. I ran into some interesting outcomes while trying the game, such as enemies looping around and just straight up returning from where the came from, but that doesn't detract from how adorable it is.

Wizsnooks by kroltan 2018-04-27T21:37:22Z

I love this idea and I'd really like to see it made into a full game. The graphics are great, the audio is good, and it's very clever. It does need a little work on the mechanics, though. Not being able to scroll the map often led to landing in lava pockets that I couldn't see, and bounces were a bit inconsistent. Seems like there are invisible corners the ball is hitting and leaving at weird angles. Also having two of the same item and disenchanting one causes the other one to unequip, or at least it seems that way, and thus health games are lost when disenchanting duplicate armor.

Dragoon Drop by jhandsy 2018-05-02T04:27:43Z

Favorite game in the jam so far. Unfortunately couldn't check the audio because that doesn't work in my browser, but everything else seemed great. A few bugs here and there, but it's mechanically solid, and unlike some of the other players, I figured out the cards and directional plays pretty quickly. It's pretty obvious when the sprite changes direction. I did find the game a bit on the easy side once I got my deck going, I was ending every level with full health and managed to make the map stretch outside the UI box.

Grid Gunner by SuperTibbles 2018-05-02T05:10:16Z

Nicely designed game with some good ideas behind it. I loved the cheeky little hints between levels. I personally had a hard time figuring out where all the bullets were going or where to dodge at some points, but that's something easily fixed and it might just be me.

Super Slime Slasher Ultra by sebastianscaini 2018-05-02T05:02:02Z

The game is cute and I like the concept, but I ran into issues with the sword hitbox. I kept stabbing through things and hitting slimes that it seemed like i wouldn't touch. Otherwise, cute concept and it definitely fits the theme.

PlatSCII by whycardboard 2018-05-02T15:12:26Z

Very clever concept and I'm really impressed your team made this while so young! I never expected to see a text command-based platformer. Just a tip for the future, zip your games before you upload them, you can do it on Windows by right-clicking on the folder and going to Send To -> Zip. There wouldn't be a problem with you zipping it and reuploading it now, that doesn't go against the spirit of LDJ.

BIRKANOID by MateCziner 2018-05-02T04:59:52Z

I love the look of it and it played really well. I was a little unclear on why I lost my first game, since it started on level 5 for some reason, but I figured it out once I started going through the levels normally. Very clever concept!

Modern Fairway 4: Spec-Ops in the Rough by Lost Dutchman Software 2018-04-24T04:08:55Z

This is probably the funniest combination I've seen so far. It's wonderfully clever and you could easily spin this out into a proper game release. The ball highlight feature was a great choice, but I'm not sure if I can say the same about the stamina bar. I spent a long time chasing after the ball, and would have liked to catch up to it sooner. That's not to say the game is bad at all, though, since that's really the only complaint I have.
