LD49 — Unstable

Grenade; Unstable by Emkani 2021-10-09T02:22:23Z

A little unclear what the goal was (I kept trying to hit the enemies with the grenades, only for it to not do anything?), but otherwise an amazing submission. Looks sharp, clever ideas, and anything 3D that works is really impressive on this timeline.

Star Dash by ZaneDD 2021-10-06T17:18:58Z

@hollyhay thanks! both of those things are included in my plans for "Improved Physics", so we'll see.

The Troubled Train by RosyMaple 2021-10-10T20:56:07Z

Had a little trouble understanding the revolver and the unicorn interface at first (still not sure what W/E/A/F stand for?), but a fun little test of keeping track of lots of things!

If I might make a small suggestion, it would be to increase the size of the text at the bottom right and make it more flashy with colored bars and stuff! I didn't even notice that panel was there until I had already been playing for a while.

Etherlands by Ethernal Tech 2021-10-05T01:19:52Z

Good start to a game! A little unclear what to do sometimes, since you can't go back and look at the instructions once the game starts, but that's to be expected in a game jam game. One more nitpick is that the item sprites are a little *too* low-res, and it's hard to tell what things are. All in all, though, very well polished and attractive! An impressive submission.

DUNGEON ECONOMY by bamberga 2021-10-06T19:39:43Z

Excellent jam game! The only nitpicks I could find were pretty trivial stuff, like making it easier to see where the file tiles are coming up. But all in all, my favorite that I've played yet.

Tripple Trouble by Kamuniaft 2021-10-09T00:25:18Z

Good concept, good enough graphics; just needs a little more tuning on the controls!

A day in a life of an electric spaceship owner by spacecadet 2021-10-09T00:17:20Z

I couldn't figure out what to do (I could pick up the little wrenches but wasn't able to actually do anything with them), so a little more indication/instruction might be nice. But the comments are generally positive, so maybe I'm the idiot here.

Traffic Jam by CasualNothing 2021-10-09T02:30:31Z

Liked the gameplay, graphics, and audio. I think it would work better with a more standard camera angle, though; just too hard to see well from the current one, so you spend more time trying to figure out where you are than dodging/planning/etc.

Crazy Potion by zapdos2 2021-10-06T19:57:28Z

I think I've seen this idea done before by some of the winners of a different game jam (GMTK maybe?), but it's very well executed here! Difficult, but in a fun way that makes you want to try again.

Wobbly Cannonry by LucDeligne 2021-10-07T04:40:11Z

Great stuff! One of my all-around favorites from this jam.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

Piece of Paradise by afendar 2018-05-06T14:56:51Z

Fun little survival game for a weekend project. Although I couldn't quite figure out how the game actually works; some more detailed instructions would be nice. Couldn't cut down trees, and wasn't quite sure what was going on with the plants aside from "press space and sometimes something will happen". But very impressive!

Story Collabs by Maakep 2018-05-10T19:49:15Z

I like it! Are there multiple stories going on at once, or does every single person see the same one?

Harvest Rune by TheMonsterFromTheDeep 2018-04-26T01:25:49Z

Love it! Amazing for a 72-hour jam game. Cute graphics, fun gameplay, and most importantly, a very innovative idea.

Crops in Space by mrjoshuamclean 2018-04-26T00:34:12Z

Great VN! Very innovative to use actual game/management mechanics in the VN format. Amazing art, and great music. I actually played all the way until the end.

One thing that I think might be a bug, though: when I chose not to land on a planet at all, it just kept counting negative distance once I was past it and never disappeared, even when it was over -100 LY away.

Don't Shoot (Visual Novel / Tac Shooter by tigerrenko 2018-04-26T00:14:38Z

Interesting idea, but there's not much of a game there at the moment to rate. Only real complaint I had besides lack of content was that sometimes it seemed like the game would choose an option for me instantaneously when I was trying to choose the other one? Also, the main menu music didn't seem to fit the content.

Extreme Tower Fishing 2018 by Roka Josh 2018-05-06T19:15:25Z

I really like it! Graphics were great, fishing was fun, and the background music was good. Biggest suggestion I might make would be to add some sort of indicator to know what's going on with the towers while you're fishing (like a minimap or something). But what you have is amazing for a weekend project!

Project T.A.R.D.I.S. by Matoux42 2018-04-24T21:10:08Z

Love it! I also had the bug @incobalt mentioned, but other than that I really enjoyed it. Very creative. Only design criticism is that the font is a bit difficult to read.

Hit 'em harder by Jonas Michael 2018-05-03T17:47:00Z

Decent idea, and I actually find the graphics kind of charming. But even with your explanation, I still couldn't really get the commands to work very well. I also think there was a bug with the "values" thing? I played the rape whistle card, and the only thing that changed was a "." next to my "0" instead of changing it to a 1, which I think was supposed to happen?

Also, I found the "rape wistle" and NORM" cards to be a bit classless. Don't poke fun at things like rape or call things "retarded", even in jest.

Lastly, I don't usually point out typos in things like LD games because we're all rushed and make stupid mistakes, but the English in the game's text was consistently bad enough that it was distracting.

Basketball Wars by Samuel Henderson 2018-04-24T20:46:08Z

Solid first game! I didn't think the graphics were bad at all, especially for a short weekend game jam.

Text Royale: The Ultimate Type or Death Fight by Rob White 2018-05-10T19:10:07Z

Wow, really well done! The polish level is off the charts for a weekend LD game. I like the combination of text-based and battle royale, but I also had pretty much the same idea so I'm a bit biased, haha. Only complaint is that I think it moves a bit too fast. I had trouble even reading what was going on before suffering death or something, much less actually reacting. Also, I don't know if this is intentional, but I tried to use a knife that I think I didn't actually have equipped (which is obviously my mistake, but a very easy one to make), and it said I committed seppuku and killed me?

Hats on Clouds by Sibi 2018-04-24T21:20:26Z

Very impressive! I definitely like the racing/tower-building concept, and the graphics were impressive for a weekend jam game. The controls were a bit wonky and there wasn't much explanation for them, but that's forgivable for a jam.

ASM Hell by vilix64 2018-05-06T19:03:33Z

Wow, loved it! Although I encountered a bit of a near-gamebreaking bug. After using the "are you stuck or want to learn more" link once, every single time I hit enter it would open up a new tab to the webpage.

Trophy Defense by August1413 2018-04-24T21:01:11Z

Fun arcadey challenge! I like the concept and pacing. Biggest criticism is that it's difficult to see where the turret is currently pointed. I think the walls might be better with a collision than a respawn at the start line, but I suspect that was chosen for ease of implementation so I won't nitpick further. Keep working and building your skills, and you'll be making great stuff in no time.

The Mad King's Tournament by ZaneDD 2018-04-24T20:38:11Z

Thanks, y'all!

@August1413 I'll be crazy busy with schoolwork for the next few days, but I plan to make an updated version with some better AI, more fleshed-out combat, and general bugfixes next weekend! About to play and rate your game!

@Nyriswar That was not by design on my end, at least. To be honest, my buddy made all the audio and I rushed to throw as much of it as I could into the project with 20 minutes left, haha. I may have inadvertently changed some setting or something, or he could have done it that way. I have no idea. I don't see a game listed on your profile, but if you're part of a team or something, send me the link and I'll play yours!

The Mad King's Tournament by ZaneDD 2018-04-25T00:13:37Z

@Evil Brain are you on PC or Mac? I haven't personally tested the Mac build because I don't have one, but I haven't encountered any sound issues on PC. Are you hearing any sound at all, or just silence?

The Mad King's Tournament by ZaneDD 2018-04-26T17:58:21Z

@Ripter thanks!

@lost-dutchman-software I'd love to, but I don't know anything about implementing multiplayer or networking at the moment. I could do it eventually, but I have some other projects I'd like to work on instead. But I do plan to flesh out some mechanics (and the AI) before moving on from this one!

The Mad King's Tournament by ZaneDD 2018-05-14T02:04:50Z

@DaragonGames thanks for the feedback! As for your concerns:

* Finding items isn't supposed to pick them up (there's a "take" command for that). I definitely concede that I did not communicate it well, but this was an intentional design choice for two reasons: first, to force strategic risk/reward decisions of do I spend the time to pick up everything vs do I keep moving away from the fire, etc. Second, to keep exploring meaningful as a mechanic in the middle and late game, or else every item on the map would be taken within a few turns.

* The music loop stopping is a bug I just keep forgetting to fix. Thanks for the reminder! It should be simple, I'll have it done in the next update.

* Unreadable button(s), presumably at the bottom right of the screen, are (I think?) fixed in the latest update. If not, could you give some details as to what you see and what screen resolution you have?

* Eating is tested and working correctly as a mechanic, I'm just still getting the balancing right on food availability.

Survival Racing - LD41 by Aszu 2018-04-26T00:10:16Z

I like the idea of survival + racing, but to be honest I'm not really sure were the racing comes into play here besides the starting line and timer. Also, I echo @TheMonsterFromTheDeep 's notes on pretty much all accounts.

Desert Drifter by Literal Games 2018-05-02T21:42:32Z

Wow, this was amazing for an LD game! I agree with most of the other comments; especially love the graphics and atmosphere. One addition that would have been nice would have been some sort of exit/quit button or control somewhere. If it was there, I never did find it.
