I love the title of this game. You've definitely mashed two genres together, but I wish they felt a bit more synchronized. I wanted to see what was going on in the tower defense screen, but I found myself just staring at arrows and the scrolling bar.
I was just thinking, what if they enemies somehow moved based on the duration of the audio track, and you laid out the towers based on where you'd want the "notes" to go. The tower defense board itself could be the entire game. I like this concept though.
A fun rhythm / tower defense game where you place towers between rounds, and then complete the rhythm challenge during the round using the arrows keys to make the towers shoot. It was sometimes hard to tell if my towers were doing well or not because I was focused on the rhythm area during the wave. Overall was fun and great use of the theme. :)
Definitely an interesting concept, definitely would have a little more fun if it was mor ebalanced, but I really like the game and think something like this has potential. I think one problem is that I just kind of stared at the rythym part of the game the whole time and ignored the towers and everything after placing them. It didn't feel like ther was a point to looking at them
I like the idea. I wasnt sure if I was doing it right, there was a lack of feedback on if I did or didnt hit the notes, I was too invested in the beat side of the screen to see what was happening on the field.
The concept is really interesting. I had fun playing, the only thing I would say is it has some balancing issues. Early game is a little brutal. It would also be cool if the towers had a little description detailing what they do. Fun game!
Your menu is best(sarcasm :)). But I think it has a potential, if you will continue working on it. It's really fun to play. So continue and I think it can transform into a great game :).
Nice game! I really liked the idea.
Cool concept but very hard. Maybe need to rework on the "rythm game" side because it's hard.
Interesting game! The music was good, graphics need improvement though.
Nice work folks, super difficult game . would be sweet if the rhythm was overlaid on screen as it's really hard to focus on anything else.Awesome concept , fair play !
A very nice idea. I would like a bit longer line of sight before I had to press the first note, but leaving like it is atleast makes it very challenging. (Which can be what you wanted) I tried the game a few times, but I did not manage to beat wave1, so I'm not sure if there was a continous wave of it you would get some time to pause. I really did not have time to do anyting after the initial purchase, but that might be due to my lack of skills! From the other comments I guess others have done better :) Good job!
If you enjoy cycling/zombies or both, please check out our game; https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/tour-de-france-legstrong. Thanks.
Really good tower defense mechanics. Would do a lot better with more thorough graphics. See me and my team's game https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/platscii
The game is fun. super fun. Really good job. Minor changes would be balance or cosmetic but this game is great! Nice work
I like this mix a lot! Performing the DDR style music game in between waves was a smart idea, it takes away some of the boring factor of watching tower defense after waves and waves of enemies have already been demolished without taking away the gameplay aspect of placing your towers in good positions. Thanks for the fun here :]
Hooray I win!

This was a good game, very easy to understand and the rhythm aspects, while fast paced, were also on point for the most part. I like the rhythm tie-in to the tower defense part in that the towers only shoot when you do the rhythm portion, which gives you more incentive to try and be precise as possible.
Some of the enemies, in later waves, ended up travelling in very tight groups, making them look like a huge snake. It was actually kind of funny, although it did cause me to lose quite a bit of health due to the insanity and the fact that you can only shoot so fast due to the rhythm game portion. Ah well, the concept was quite well executed given the amount of time you had to work on it. I like how the screen tints just slightly when you're losing health; it's a nice indicator while you're concentrating on the rhythm game because I was rarely focusing on the enemies at all when the waves were being initiated.
I guess that's also kind of downside to the rhythm game incorporation into this genre. Tower defense games are typically all about setting up beforehand and you usually have time to watch the enemies in action while your "towers" do the "defending". To have that going on at the same time as the "rhythm game" portion does mean missing out on a lot of the action that makes the most satisfying part of tower defense games. I wonder...if the rhythm game part was an entirely separate thing that happened before the wave...would that work better? Say, you do the tower placement, initiate the rhythm part, then afterwards, you watch the enemies travelling and the towers shooting based on how accurate you were in the rhythm part. Right now, it's hard to tell exactly how well you do in these rhythm parts, aside from the screen tint. I do see text flashing on screen, though it is brief to say the least. Anywho, that's just food for thought.
Overall, it was a pretty well executed concept that didn't seem super buggy. The visuals and music served basic needs, but they weren't in any way annoying. From what I could tell, the simple drum rhythm matched pretty well with the rhythm game portion. Good job!
This was a really neat idea! Nice work :D
This game was a lot of fun! I really enjoyed the music, but I had difficulty catching on in the beginning. Once I got in rhythm (see what I did there), I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The concept is really easy to understand without a lot of explanation, that's good, and the gameplay work really well. Maybe the rythm part could be a little slower so we can actually see how our turret shoots at enemy to optimize their positionning. Otherwize really good and fun to play.
I really like the concept, it was fun to play, and the critters look funny lol :D This has great potential! However, I had a bit of problem with the rhythm part, it seems like it will only start few miliseconds after a wave starts, it may or may not have costed me some health points
Good job! Very interesting choice of genres to mix and the music sounds cool. But it felt like a little too difficult for me, but it could be caused by my complete incompetence in rhythm)
Good concept and the gameplay is instinctive enough. Perhaps there is something better to find with the placement of the rythme game that would enable to actually have an eye to the tower defense screen. As it is I had some huge difficulties to see what was happening on that part. Nice job overall !
Interesting, but needs more balance. I like that the player has something to do during the defense phase (in contrast to most tower defense games), but it's kind of a negative too, since you don't have time to pay attention to what is happening on the field. One idea to fix this (and make things a little more balanced) is to make the enemies slower and give them a move speed boost every time the player miss a note, the rhythm could get faster overtime too (up to a limit). Or giving the towers a damage boost for hitting all notes. The point is that you have to make the rhythm aspect of the game more interesting to the player while keeping things balanced.
Good job overall.
I'm terrible at rhythm games but I really appreciate that this is a rhythm game and not a rhythm themed game like the other 'rhythm' games i've played from this jam. You actually have to hit the keys in time with the music, so I died :)
Damn, I'm bad at this games rythm games. The game is nice, it has cool graphics and rythm. Mixing the tower defense with the hit-the-key-at-the-right-moment mechanics is interesting. Good job!
Interesting but being human I can only look at one place on the screen at any one time. I tried getting past the first level and although I'm pretty sure on the third try I hit pretty much every single note I still didn't manage to kill the wave. Maybe I was just unlucky with the RNG?
Very interesting idea! Simple but cool graphics. The only negative thing, like other said, is that you can watch only one side of the screen, and you haven't control of the game field.. maybe you can set a lower speed for the enemies, and some pauses between rythms, to have more control of the gameplay. Howewer I liked it! Good job!
I lik ethe mix of 2 genres, but it was a little difficult without feedback!! Great job though.
