the controls could use some work - other than that i liked it!
nothing really new but a solid entry i can play several times :) well done!
crashes on macosx :(
i really liked the mood of the game. at first it felt weird but the overall style really got to me. well done!
i like the general idea, but the controls made it very hard for me to experiment for a long time :(
i loved the snail enemies :D
somehow the walljump did not really work for me though. in the level after i lost the 2nd weapon i got stuck :(
i have no idea what is going on. still i kept playing :-D
way more fun than i expected :-D
did you press the "start" button in the tutorial level? in the tutorial you need to manually start the timer countdown.
i added a 3 step howto to the game description above.
some people wondered: there is a timer in the lower right corner - it counts down 5 minutes and shows the score afterwards. for a highscore you need to balance investment time and collecting times :)
thanks for the feedback so far and have fun with it!
i added some text that may help you :) it is too late for tutorial screens i am afraid :)
@Victory Garden: i did write a postmortem that may clear up a few things: http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2014/08/28/the-slay-zone-postmortem/
i did not expect such a fun mechanic from the screenshots. well done!
i like the idea you had. even if not much is happening the spin mechanic feels like fun :)
wow. i did not expect that from the screenshots. great!
this feels a lot like galcon :D
goty
why can't i stop playing this?!
it was a bit confusing at first because i chose a low resolution and did not see the options i had on the right. after i found out about that, i enjoyed the story.
too bad this is not the first reverse pacman entry i played this LD.
nonetheless, i enjoyed it!
a dog with a gun! what can go wrong?
too bad you did not finish it. the submitted version already is a lot of fun!
music and sounds are really nice. i also enjoyed the hiding mechanic.
that is one hungry beast. i had fun playing it.
too bad you didn't have enough time. the visuals already look very good!
i am sad that the game is not really playable on the web. as soon as my mouse hits the edge of the screen, i cannot rotate any further :(
i have no idea how to control the game. it starts and at one time the players begin to run but i cannot control anything. (mac version)
after i found out how i start the game, i really enjoyed it. lovely setting.
the audio and the visuals are stunning. well done!
i had troubles understanding the "wake up" mechanic but after that i had great fun. well done!
i enjoyed that. maybe you could move the camera out a bit more? at the start i had some troubles with orientation.
"use mouse wheel" - *looks at laptop touchpad* *cries*
took me a while to find out that there is a double jump. after that it was great fun to play it.
@linus: there is a built in spam protection. maybe that did prevent the button. i will see if it needs to be less strict.
recording that scream with open doors was not smart. my little one got pretty spooked :D
i got some feedback regarding the unclear ghost level. i think about how i can make it more clear what to do in that one for the post-LD version.
thanks for the video!
i had way more planned but reality did strike and cut down my programming hours :(
i will add it to the list for the post-LD build!
i did choose a subset (basically 8 buttons only) to make it a bit easier.
the hiding mechanic with the eyes in the bushes is great!
i really enjoyed that game.
great idea!
passport.. erm... application please!
i think you really picked a great sample to build your idea on. i enjoyed the game a lot!
i enjoyed that! very nice retro feeling.
i feel that this could be much better with a more balanced jump mechanic. everything else was fine.
thanks for the hints. that helped me :)
i'd buy this on steam or psn right now. what an awesome entry.
the music really got me into the mood
the game itself is nice but what really made me laugh is your description. well done :D
the difficulty seemed a bit too low but i really enjoyed it! great visuals and audio.
very nice game. unfortunately the controls are not very responsive :(
too bad you did not let us vote on audio. i really liked the sounds!
the controls did not really work for me (web build)
this is my favourite reverse pacman game of this LD so far. i like that i can focus on one ghost and not have to control all of them. makes it much more relaxed. well done.
i only found out how to lose :P
i like the graphics and the monster.
lovely entry! too bad i had to kick the cats out, they seemed so happy in the hotel.
as someone who does hate ants, i had a lot of fun with this game. burn them aaaaall.
the art style is really great!
it was hard to control and i had no idea what i was doing.
but i still enjoyed it! the mood is very nice.
lovely entry! so simple yet awesome with the correct setting. well done.
this seems like a nice web project but i don't really see the connection to the theme.
not finishing is completely ok for a LD game. doing something is the main goal. and you did that. keep trying!
i like the soundtrack!
that is a great entry! i will tell this story to my kids one day :)
the eating was fun, the bombs did not work most of the time.
nice entry!
nice one :)
can you double check on the web build? i was able to play it but it looks like lightning was somehow broken?
playing it self was fun.
nice entry for your first LD. keep doing the next ones!
i had no sound/music when i played the web version with safari.
the mechanic was fun without any audio though :)
when i did click on the menu option, nothing happened.
i like the music!
i enjoyed that. the sounds weirded me out a bit though :D
the controls could use some work. the format is interesting though.
i think that you did not move the project into the public dropbox folder. i can only download the html instead of the game starting.
first i was skeptical but the dialogs and the tactical movement were really nice.
exellent work!
i really dig that crt shader.
i _think_ i won. but i am not sure :D
the controls felt a bit weird. other than that i liked it.
i really enjoyed that. one of the best ones i have rated so far.
as a cat fan i approve of this entry :)
took me a while to find out what the rune does (thought the movement was a bug :D).
after that i enjoyed exploring the area.
shapeshift flappy birds. without the flapping :D
i enjoyed that. great music and flow.
i like the idea but i had huge problems with the controls :(
too bad that i cannot give you 5 stars in the "game name" category :D
my brain hurts. it is primed to change player shapes and not the other way around. well played... well played :)
<3
my brain hurts. but i like that ;)
i will try to add mouse controls and a restart button in the post compo version.
the linux build somehow did not work :(
you can move single blocks if they are not part of a line when you move them.
can you explain "with no pattern to solve"?
oh, i found out. looks like this is a display bug in the webgl version. very weird. fixing it!
update: the bug in level 5 should be fixed in the web version. had no time to test pc/mac
thank you :D
ok, post compo changes are here!
- clickable arrow
- restart button in every level
enjoy :)
oh, and also the level is not rotated that much, should be easier to navigate now.
quote "Why is the embedded version not the jam version but the postjam version??? "
i have actually no idea. fixing the links right now.
a minimap would have been nice.
thought i was stuck but then i found out how to elephant bash :p nice work!
what is happening?!
simple yet fun!
(the big guy in the background was staring at me the whole time :p)
i did not really understand the game. the idea of the small ledges and the mood were nice though.
my requests:
- one button for each shape.
- 5 times as fast.
think i would play it for ages then :) well done!
nice entry. my brain hurts :)
the graphics are amazing. could use a bit more balancing with line of sight and sudden obstacles - but those are minor changes.
the graphics and the mood are nice. the controls are very weird for me though. the jump could use a little tweaking.
very nice entry. the mousewheel zoom did sometimes break for me but a reload of the game fixed that.
interesting!
with a little change to the enemy movement, this could get a lot better fast :)
good entry for a few hours work!
i liked that one!
sometimes it did not respond to my keypresses in the webversion. still managed to win though.
great music. could be a bit faster for my taste :)
the colors and everything looked cool but made it sometimes very hard to see level parts and/or enemies. maybe a tweaked contrast can make this entry even better with little work.
that felt really great. love the music and the graphics!
i liked that one.
a bit more feedback for the players may be nice. like... what will the potion do before i hit it? maybe a ui overlay for that. i had to restart 4 times to find out what they do.
also the hitboxes seemed weird sometimes (getting hits when being far away).
the idea and the graphics are great.
i really had troubles with the controls though. had to read comments to find out how i move the character. after that i fell out of the bed a lot :p
i learned that i am not a good mars monster :D
a bit more shapeshifting and higher speed may be nice. it felt a bit slow. otherwise nice!
very nice entry!
one minor issue: for me it would have been easier if the blocks are place relative to the block i carry and not relative to the player who often is "one block off".
the music worked for me. it just started 20 seconds or so into the game - and sounded great :)
at first i did not see the building part and just clicked enter. after this confusion was solved, i enjoyed building my ship.
very nice entry for a first LD!
with a music that matches the beat of the level it could be even better.
the music was very nice.
i had troubles understanding the controls and the different unit types. but somehow i made it :D
ZXC controls make me cry with a QWERTZ keyboard :p
no other complaints though.
"Caution: Audio may be loud in WebGL build! "
good! cause it sounded great :)
thanks for the wasd version. it was impossible with the mouse :)
i enjoyed that. the bear form looks awesome.
i liked it but a few tweaks may make it even better. a slightly larger view or smaller hitboxes... just something that gives the player a bit more wiggle room.
i visited an art installation that felt like this game years ago. weird in a good way.
i kept the browser tab open for a long time so i could listen to the nice music some more :)
punching those green slimes felt really good! good mix of movement and sound.
it may not win many awards but it is a good entry. finishing something is the first big step. well done :)
blobby volley remake. always good :)
i vote duck!
(loved the elvis costume :D)
the starcraft music in the menu was nice :D
controls felt a bit weird. especially on a qwertz keyboard.
nice entry. the music did work well with the game.
i did not know that walking down a mountain could be so complicated :p
i liked the lightning a lot.
the only thing that felt a bit weird was the camera. when i moved around a lot it was too slow to follow me and my character ran off screen.
oh damn that's a hard one :)
i really like that it follows a simple idea but has a nice theme and not "just different shapes". i had fun playing it.
weird :D
very lovely graphics. had a little trouble with the controls and aiming but i still enjoyed it a lot.
really nice graphics!
without the comments here i would not have understood how to play though. maybe some little tutorial text would be nice.
uuuh this one is pretty!
lovely! i had no idea what was going on at the start but pressing the buttons and looking at the nice effects was already a great feeling :D
i also really enjoyed the loot menu. very polished. good work!
yeah, there are some item bugs on the lower floor. since you can only collect them once though it should not break the game :)
ooooh boy that's a great concept. i like this on many levels.
if you put this idea into a solid context this could be an amazing product (maybe even vr ready).
great work!
nice one!
one suggestion: it may be easier to control the game when you move with arrows and shoot with wasd. otherwise you always need to move extra miles when you want to change direction.
that was very nice!
i really liked the 3d gui.
was a bit confusing at the start. thought i need to touch the walls to make them go away. once i found out that the level changes itself i had fun catching the fruit.
those evil cats!
got a bit confused with the controls at the start but after a while i was ready to throw my body into the game. well done!
