I felt like the jump needed to be adjustable based of how long I held down the jump button.

Quite an addictive game. An adjustable jump mechanic would be nice though! Nice art and music.

The embedded version didn't work for me (never responded to key input or got past the start screen), and I think the link in your description is wrong. I followed the web link (in firefox), but it seemed to get stuck on the loading bar.

A suggestion, slow the speed a bit and if you could, implement an adjustable jump mechanic.

mventurelli 2015-08-25 22:17

There's no way to exit the game =/

(Playing the downloadable version, WebGL didn't load for me)

Really addictive. Nice music and graphics too.

Like mood, well done!

Great work on combining graphics, sound and gameplay! Were some of the villagers holding flowers? :D

If the jump could be cancelled, or adjustable, that would have added a lot.

It's a good start. I agree with the comments about the jump action needing to be more dynamic (height=hold duration) and maybe heavier gravity so it doesn't feel so floaty. Good job!

Nice work. Frankenstein Monster game solidarity!

Weirdly when I was doing research on Frankenstein-style monsters I found that there was no single term for what these monsters are called other than Frankenstein's monster. Some people think they're zombies. There's weirdly no consensus.

1st Thought:
The scrolling speed of the level is so fast, combined with the jump height/ distance, that it becomes more about luck, than any amount of skill.

Pros:
I like the art/ music. They synced well to create the mood.
I like the spin on the runner concept.

Cons:
(see first thought)
It would have been nice to have a sound effect and maybe character flash or something when taking damage. It took me a few runs to even realize I could take damage.

It took me a few runs to realize that the dots were power ups, lol.

Overall:
I feel like if the scroll speed/ jump mechanic were fixed, this would be a nice little runner.

i feel that this could be much better with a more balanced jump mechanic. everything else was fine.

Some critique; I couldn't get the embedded version to play, and it wouldn't fit on a non-widescreen monitor, so I had to use the downloaded version. When playing, the jump was too floaty, and always spaced such that jumping one obstacle would land you in the next. An ability to control jump height (maybe holding the button during ascent extends it), or a jump distance designed to clear an average obstacle would be ideal. Also, there didn't seem to be a way to fully avoid the vertical sawblade; I could never quite clear it.

It's hard to find the time during LD like this, but playtesting is really important! It lets you diagnose problems the average player is going to have, and helps you tidy up your work as the audience will see it.

Thanks for putting this together. The soundtrack was groovy, and the animation well done. Good work!

Good game nice graphics and music :D good job

I can tell you guys put some work into this, and it shows! Only couple of things that I can think of is that the jump is too long!

radmars 2015-09-02 21:30

I am such a sucker for these forced runner games! Id say the jumping needs to be tightened up a bit, I htink variable height as some people have menioned would be good, and i also think the gravity should be much stronger to make it feel like you have more control. I think the sawblades didnt seem to do much to me either. The art and mood are very nice, I dig the old timey castle in the background, makes me really think of castlevania! Nice entry!

Fun, and nice feel to the game (Transylvania-wise), but I had some problems making progress --maybe I'm not that good at runners? :P

Anyway, nice take on the theme. Good job!
