Really nice game. You took a simple idea and presented in a lovely way. Great voice work too!
Got to level 10, I'm never gonna beat that one :s
Interesting idea, lovely graphics. Would be great if there were more building types.
@Smaxx Thanks, think I've managed to fix it. I'm gonna fix up a few other things and upload it to the main page next week.
@blob Sorry about that,
I've just uploaded a new version at http://www.ludumdare.com/compo/2012/12/20/unsave-the-princess-post-mortem-post-compo-status-01/ which supports the arrow keys for movement, numpad 0,1,2 & 3 for choosing spells and ctrl to restart from the last checkpoint.
Really pretty game and a great concept too. Found it a little difficult though, although I'm generally not great at this kind of game.
I really love the concept, sort of like a tower defence rpg. Would love to see it fleshed out with more moves to add a bit more strategy to the battles.
I loved the audio and visuals, very simple but worked very well.
I got to the part with the yellow cube, died and quit in frustration but I've just went back and found the ending. Some excellent game design there.
This is superb, certainly in the top 5 games I've played so far.
Great game. You did a great job at exploring such a simple concept and creating such a wonderfully polished game. I liked the little touches such as adding grid-movement to the level with the 1-square hole. The pacman level was a nice surprise too (the level after it reminded me a little of frogger too).
The only slight criticism would be that the music, while rather good, got a little repetitive after a while and I (being pretty terrible at video games) found dodging some of the red square too hard on some of the later levels. Still a superb game and amazing work for 48 hours.
Really nice idea, fits the theme perfectly. I really liked how each level had something new and my only complaint was that it was a little short.
Lovely game, would be great to see it explored further.
@JimmyLord
I love old school difficult platformers but I've never found them a good match for PC so I'll definitely be focusing on making more difficult puzzles.
I always find it difficult to judge how difficult my games are (I'd worried a little that some of the puzzles in this might be too difficult) so I'm going to try releasing a few in the next few days to get some feedback. I might play around a little and try to make a level editor although that could take a little longer.
Thanks again for all the comments.
The game was a little too difficult for me but it has a lovely art style, a nice concept and fits the theme really well.
Would be great if you could release an "easy mode" which either runs slower or has a smaller character.
A little bit difficult to control, but really nice visuals and great sound design.
I really liked the style you've chosen, fits the theme perfectly. Some of the jumping was a little frustrating at times but I still really enjoyed it. Totally agree with cybearg and would love to see this as an action adventure.
I really liked the visuals, they fit the theme really well, but found the player movement a little bit over-responsive. Nice work though, I hope you release a post-compo version.
Great game. I found it a little difficult to control at first but soon got the hang of it. I really like the visuals and they fit the theme perfectly. Best score was only 43 but I'll definitely be having another go at it.
Very interesting mechanic. I love the way you've used sound to guide the player although it took me a while to realize the humming was actually a bad thing.
I really liked the visuals but found it a little hard to find my way. I always got the feeling I was missing something. It would be great if the explorable area was a little more closed off at the start and areas opened up as you played.
Top marks for the audio, reminded me a little of the opening on super metroid.
I really enjoyed this and the art was great. Best I managed was 28s.
