Idk if it was me, but the whole thing ran waaay too slow :P
Asides that, the concept was nice, but the gameplay was a bit slow..
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD20 → WHALE of a TALE

I liked the graphics and the concept! It'd be nice if the islands were generated to be a bit more usable. I ended up playing a few maps where there was no stone and few docks.
I tried a few times and can never get enough money to build a mill. Some of the interactions are a little confusing. It took me a while to figure out how to summon a whale. Maybe it would be more intuitive if instead of clicking and releasing over water you just walk onto the dock.
After a number of attempts I finally managed to build a mill, but I didn't really understand what I meant to do after that? The graphics and audio have a real charm :)
This thing has potential... I like the survival-aspect of it. Drop somewhere and expand, or DIE. Also, the music is catchy (although it doesn't loop cleanly)
Although there are bugs and balancing-issues, the biggest annoyance would be the fact that once inside the game, you have no idea what to actually do, and only trial+errortofind out.
Still fun though :-)
Not enough golds to builds stuffs!
I liked the part where you rode the whale.
I think the level generation is a bit messed up, most of the levels don't seem to have 20 gold on all islands combined, so I can't build a mill (which I guess would let me chop down trees?) I'm digging the music and graphics, though.
I didn't understand how to summon a whale, I tried, but nothing seemed to work for me. So basically all I could do is gather coins which weren't enough for anything...
It does seem like a nice concept, and the graphics are nice as well.
Damn, download doesn't want to start for me :(... Looks real interesting!
Very difficult for me to rate this game, so I only gave you a community score. The whole thing ran like molasses, no idea why; other game maker games have worked fine. Even dropping the guy on an island, it took a whole minute for him to land. :( Also, couldn't here any music, only a few sound effects that played before the graphical event that was supposed to trigger them.
Yeah sorry guys I've been getting the slowness comment quite a bit. Ran fine on my computer (though it's a pretty new one) my first thought is to blame gamemaker's general inability to handle lots of instances. Probably my bad for getting real sloppy towards the end and not running it on an older machine.
