LD22 — Alone

Abandoned by Noel Berry 2011-12-20T14:36:00

A good game, especially given the time constraints. The art is great. I especially love the guys floating in tanks in the background. I found the controls really frustrating until I figured out that you grapple in whichever direction you last pressed (I might have missed a screen) and that grappling while holding a crate throws it forward (I kept expecting to grapple out from under it, dropping it).

kuudou by summaky 2011-12-22T02:11:00

I like the concept a lot, and the graphics are well-done, especially the player animation. Unfortunately, the game is too short to really explore the concept and it's frustrating at the beginning when you're figuring the game out.

10,000 Space Leagues from Delta Station by Dan C 2012-01-08T17:13:00

The intro definitely makes the game! It would have been nice to see the asteroids from further away, maybe with arrows along the side of the screen.

Cat Match by Mitchell 2011-12-23T03:11:00

A very good first effort. The little story elements in-between levels were very cool. I wasn't sure what it took to get to the next level, though.

Last breath by deepnight 2011-12-20T15:11:00

I really wanted to like this game, but it was just too frustrating (even with the easy mode). The graphics are great and the controls are tight, but since I couldn't explore the area with the balls ahead of time, I kept dying while I figured out which order to go in. It was also really hard to see the shadow dog to know how much time I had, since it was black on black most of the time.

Still, with some tweaking, I think it could be a great game. And I'd love to find out how the story ends.

Shadow Glow by k_wright 2011-12-20T14:46:00

I like the concepts, but I think it would improve a lot with some extra time. I thoroughly enjoyed lighting up the white cubes and I thought the level design worked quite well. Sometimes I got too close to something and my flashlight would shine through the other side, which made it hard to tell that I was actually up against a boundary. I think it needs some extra conflict to make it a little more exciting. For example, if ghosts started getting used to the light unless you recharged it at a white cube.

Sinkhole by Shaun Inman 2012-01-08T22:14:00

The graphics are quite good and the monsters are great. I love how you never actually see them. Unfortunately, after wandering around for a while, it started feeling very same-y. And then I was killed when a monster spawned on top of me.

Still, very atmospheric.

Farrokh by DoktorAce 2011-12-19T20:57:00

I enjoyed the game quite a bit and the graphics are frankly amazing. I like the little touches, like the fact that the level loops around and that the obstacles have a sound that appears slightly before they show up.

I don't think I'd play for too long, but there's enough gameplay for a couple of play-throughs.

Great job!

Last Stand by John Conrad 2012-01-08T22:21:00

The music is quite nice (since it sounds very synth, I imagine that it's what the robots are listening to) and the gameplay is good. It could use something to keep the game interesting for longer, though. Possibly an upgrade system or robots with new techniques that require you to find new strategies. Like several others, I found that I could just run around in circles until I was overwhelmed.

Still, great effort for just 48 hours!

EpiCat by Jacic 2012-01-08T22:33:00

For a 48-hour game, this is pretty good. The sound effects add a lot even though the shooting sound gets annoying after a while. The gameplay is basic and would have been improved with some power-ups or some additional tension (a timer until the next cat-boss, for example). However, given the time, I was impressed at how many different ships you were able to put in.

The Word Alone by Matt Rix 2011-12-22T04:09:00

Great concept and it really fits the theme. My only serious critique is that it took me several confusing games to figure out how to play. Clearer directions or a play example would be nice to add if you continue development after the jam.

I Fly Alone by carloshellin 2011-12-22T02:16:00

The snow was great and the sound really helped the feel of being alone in a blizzard. I wasn't sure what I was supposed to be doing, since gathering the dots didn't seem to do anything and when my hunger got to zero the game seemed to reset. With a little more explanation, though, it could be a fun diversion.

Space Station 1: No Program by kibertoad 2012-01-08T22:07:00

This is a great concept that doesn't quite come together. I liked the changing moods a lot, but I think it would have heightened interest if there were some other constraint (for example, a time limit before some external force comes and rescues everyone). I also had a random crash after about 50 turns.

Hikikomori Manager 2012 by VDZ 2011-12-23T03:50:00

The graphics are appropriate (although the UI could be polished) and the sounds are quite good. It wasn't clear enough to me what each of the options did, but I enjoyed trying out different things for a while.

The Lone Adventurer by harusame 2011-12-22T02:05:00

This is a great-looking game and the sound is enjoyable, although a bit repetitive. The slow falling took a while to get used to and it was often annoying to have to backtrack to get one missed coin to finish out the level. Fixing the jump mechanic and only requiring 75% of the coins to clear a level would go a long way towards improving it!

Splaser Strife by RHY3756547 2011-12-19T20:29:00

I enjoyed the game quite a bit. The graphics are great and the sound enhances the mood.

I'd like the game as a whole a little better if there were autofire and you saw points appear where you destroyed a ship. I was focused on the enemies, so I never looked at the score until I was between levels.

It would also fit my skill better if I restarted at the beginning of the wave where I died. :)

I'm Where? by Cryptix 2011-12-23T03:30:00

The graphics are quite good and the sound, while simple, fits the game. I like the concept and the empty buildings gave a great feeling of emptiness and curiosity. I would have liked to know what I was supposed to be doing and the game ended pretty abruptly, but I expect those comments can be fixed with more time. Good job!

People by commando 2012-01-08T17:09:00

An interesting concept that works pretty well. I'll second the call for an explicit 'Enter' key on the passcode. Overall, a great first attempt!

But You Wake Alone by wgemigh 2011-12-21T14:41:00

Thanks for the comments, everyone! They're very helpful.

Sorry about the source code. I left out an 'http' in the field when I submitted, so it didn't show up at the top.

The End by kebabskal 2011-12-23T03:38:00

The graphics are very nice and the sound is good. I love the concept of the ghosts leading you to their bodies, but I did get lost after the first one.

Midas by Wanderlands 2011-12-22T19:13:00

This is a great game and one of my favorites. The gameplay and the story tie together very well and the puzzles were thought-provoking but not annoying. The sound effects work well. I ran into one annoying bug where hitting R before falling to death would restart the level twice.

I hope you continue development and add some music and character animation!

Great job!

Split Party! by Ishisoft 2011-12-19T21:41:00

I love it! My favorite so far. There's obviously more that could be added (extra levels, scoring, etc.) but what's there is perfect.

LD23 — Tiny World

Astro Gardener by HeyChinaski 2012-04-25T00:07:00

Man, those aliens are jerks.

The idea is great and I really enjoyed tossing chunks of asteroid at my planet and seeing it grow. I felt like I spent too much time zooming through space and not enough time growing my asteroid. The aliens didn't help, of course.

The art works for the game, although I think it might work better if it were a bit smaller. The enemies are sometimes hard to see with the dark red on black, so adding a white outline or something on them would help too.

The theme is spot on.

Overall, I enjoyed it. Good job!

Tiny God : Small Diety, Big Pantheon by Lacutis 2012-04-28T19:01:00

I like the retro art style and the concept. I had fun with it until I plateaued at about 1800 Life and couldn't figure out how to get more.

The random movement was a little distracting, so I would have preferred slower but more meaningful movements (zombies excluded).

Overall, it's a fun concept but could use a little more feedback about how you're doing and how you could improve.

When Worlds Collide by AlwaysGeeky 2012-04-24T23:31:00

Unfortunately, I had to play the non-shader version as well, although it still looked pretty good.

It did seem more like a toy than a full game, but I kept going back to try out new strategies so the core mechanic is definitely fun!

I really liked the little touches, like how restarting causes the world to reform and how vaporize starts with the water. I wasn't sure what allowed me to use my abilities. Time, perhaps? It would have added a bit more strategy if different types of blocks regenerated different abilities (water = comet, magma = vaporize for example).

Great job! I'd like to see what you can do with it now that the LD is over!

Polarity by nornagon 2012-04-28T19:24:00

This is a great concept. I love the level intros as well. The're simple but they get the job done.

I enjoyed it until I got to 'Tunneling' and then 'Infinite Gravity Well'. Those levels were too finicky and got less enjoyable pretty quickly. Adding the ability to skip a level or adding a bonus difficulty (e.g. getting through is easy, but getting all of the gems is hard) might help with that.

Good job overall, though!

The Lump World by Kralle 2012-04-24T23:58:00

I like the art, especially the little guys orbiting the planet. I had real trouble selecting units, maybe because I'm on an older laptop.

The theme is strong here and there's promise, it looks like you just needed a little more time.

Microscopia by azurenimbus 2012-05-14T00:41:00

The concept is a lot of fun! I would have liked to be able to give up and see where my microbe was. I also had some slowdown issues when there were a lot of microbes on the screen. Overall, I really liked the atmosphere and the way the concept of the game is shown to the player through level progression.

Fracuum by TylerGlaiel 2012-04-24T14:58:00

I love the concept! The controls were fine for the maze part but a little fiddly for the shooting part. It would have been a lot nicer to be able to shoot in any direction, not just the one you're facing. I look forward to the updated version!

Interplanetary Sumo by Milo 2012-04-28T19:17:00

I enjoyed your game quite a bit. The cracking planets looked cool and the jumping mechanic was fun.

Overall, it was a great diversion for a few plays but then it started to feel like the same thing every time. Perhaps more strategy (jumping off of or into a planet might push it), powerups, or new types of planets would extend playtime.

Still, great job for 48 hours!

My First World by Dark Acre Jack 2012-04-25T14:01:00

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to play (Chrome/Win7). It loaded and showed the iTween logo, but then pegged my CPU and the Unity plugin crashed.

The Big Bang by Zemmi 2012-04-25T00:24:00

This is a really fun concept. The game mechanic is cool and having two combine two different types of planets made the levels interesting. It matches the theme really well too.

Unfortunately, I found it very difficulty to control. Clicking on a planet re-centered, so I would often click on a planet and the re-centering would change the angle. I think you could either make it so that you can't miss a planet or put the planets at 30, 60, 90 degrees from each other and it would be a lot easier to control while still being challenging.

Still, great job!

Exposed by 01101101 2012-04-25T00:34:00

The art and sound are great. I like the concept a lot as well.

Like some others have mentioned, it was hard to figure out what was going on. I think it would help if you could see your little guys at all times so that in addition to "I think something happened," you'd see what changed. I spent a lot of time walking back to the magnifying glass.

Overall, I enjoyed it, primarily because of the art and music. With a little work, the gameplay could be as good as the rest of it!

TinyInspiration by Shigor 2012-04-28T18:51:00

The style was good and I like the funny setup a lot.

I kept dropping and immediately picking up inventory items until I realized that if you click in the inventory where it WILL BE, it picks it up again instantly.

I would have liked more hints when looking at items that I couldn't use yet to let me know that I was on the right track. For example, if the brush description had been clearer about the fact that it would make a good wig but that I couldn't pull the bristles out, I would have liked it better.

Overall, a solid entry with some minor UI issues.

Epic Scale Warfare by devwil 2012-04-28T19:10:00

Like most of the other commenting, I don't get it. I couldn't see the bullets in the tutorial (maybe they were going too fast?) an then the zooming in and out portion didn't seem to have any interactivity.

I did like the graphics and the idea of having a large game space with more human-scale results, but I don't think it quite came together.

Mineral Cities by Gareth Jenkins 2012-04-24T23:51:00

I love this concept and the art style! The controls felt backward to me and it took a while to figure out that you place items in the center (not where the mouse cursor is).

Once I understood the controls, I really got into exploring the rules. The overlapping objects gave it a great feeling of 'building up'.

By the time I had 14 minerals, I felt like I understood the rules enough that I would benefit from starting again. I didn't, only because the game takes a while. I think I'd be much more likely to play if I could finish the level faster. Perhaps you could have resources produce instantly upon placement of a new item?

Apart from that minor quibble, this seems like a great strategic game in the vein of Slay. I find myself wondering how it would play on a touch screen...

Fish Tank Commander by quill18 2012-04-25T00:16:00

It took starting a couple of games to figure out the basics. It was also a bit slow, although that's probably just because so many people are trying it right now.

It's a cool concept and I like the silly aquarium theme. I would have liked more difference between the units. The betta and the goldfish in particular seemed too similar.

I look forward to seeing an updated version!

Macronauts, Go! by wgemigh 2012-04-28T18:37:00

Thanks for the feedback! I rushed and approximated how long a turn should take and apparently guessed way high. Sorry for that!

That's right, nornagon. Blue does about three times more damage than Red with a full grid but does less earlier. The break-even point is about 10 blocks (probably too high... balancing is hard!)

This Precious Land by Ishisoft 2012-04-28T18:34:00

I really liked this, even more than Triple Town. The grid seemed fine to me, but I did keep forgetting a step (oops, grass comes before trees) so I would have liked an undo option.

The art is charming but I'm still not sure what all of them represent. The first time I played through, I missed the 'gathering' option and didn't think it was that fun. Perhaps you could add a reminder or a notice the first time a 'gatherable' tile is available?

Overall, amazing job for 48 hours!
