LD19 — Discovery

Universal Conquest by Endurion 2010-12-23T23:11:00

For whatever reason the link did not work.

Unexpected Outcome by ippa 2010-12-24T00:14:00

I tried playing it but as soon as I start I'm stuck floating above my bed, not able to move.

Anacalypse by bildramer 2010-12-21T19:03:00

I love the music and the generator, kind of like a top down minecraft. Though I would have like some sort of lose state, maybe some enemies running around or a stamina bar. Though telling the player how much there is to discover was a good idea, I actually didn't stop until I found them all... and found out how big the map was.

Looney Ladders by SethR 2010-12-22T20:20:00

Not bad. The graphics are kind of meh but that doesn't really matter.

The game itself is fairly simple but well implemented.

The audio is pretty silly which fits with the rest of the style.

I do like how you increased the range of the ladders to make the game a lot more easy and not frustrating.

My only big issue is the generator sometimes creates an elevator that leads to a room with noting in it. So it ends up being useless. But as I type this I realize you could use it in a pinch to escape a robot... so nevermind.

Simple but great job.

Compact Discovery by Starspell 2010-12-23T04:01:00

Overall good game. The occasional planet ambush made for a nice twist.

One problem with the movement is that when fighting it would be nice to be able to move backwards which is impossible with mouse movement.

I'll be adding another to the list of bookmarks. Good Job!

Where am I? by Benn 2010-12-21T19:19:00

Argh, your game is so hard I think I broke down into tears during the fourth level. Really love it though. Great twist on the classic maze game. The subtle sound effect is a nice "WRONG" to the player, excellent feedback. My only concern is with some of the more complex levels its hard to know which direction you are heading in... which I guess is part of the challenge, so that might just be my lack of skill. ANYWAY, great job. I'm going to try to finish it later.

Quest for the Four Altars! by Staggy 2010-12-20T08:40:00

Even though mostly everyone used sfxr, it really fit the art and gameplay in this case. The jump noise is oddly satisfying. Overall very reminiscent of classic NES adventure games. Definitely has potential. Good job.

Stripes by littlehacksaw 2010-12-21T19:43:00

I don't know why but for some reason I did not have audio. I'm not too sure what the objective was and I kept not getting anything for a long period of time. Still, a good effort, needs improvement.

1492 by wlovas 2011-01-02T08:24:00

I'm one of the many people that will not be able to play this, which sucks considering I want to play all the games and advance to the rank of Master Player of All of the Games.

I was going to rank for community but it seems that you have made no blog entries or anything of the sort. So I'm leaving a comment.

SS seemed neat.

DisGRAVery by Spunkmeyer 2010-12-21T19:54:00

Really brutal game. The controls were hard to master and I think I died about 10 times before actually understanding what I was doing. Not for the faint of heart but definitely something I can see being fun once you understand it.

The sound effects worked well with the graphics.

I'll have to put this on my "try again later" list.

PSIENC - FOR THE GOOD by Squax 2011-01-02T09:06:00

Amazing entry, it's great to see such an innovative project in this competition.

The HUD design was brilliant. It took a bit to get used to but works and looks really natural to the overall graphics of the game.

The audio fits really well together, the BGM gave it a nice ambient feeling.

The bubbles, or DNA, or atoms gave a bit of depth to an otherwise 2D game. They did obscure the Psienc which was probably intensional, the range of the vacuum made up for that.

Overall great job.

Deep sea discovey by piotrekb 2010-12-22T20:25:00

Loading the level caused the game to crash every time. I have all VS packs so I don't know why.

Pass it! v1.1.5 by Folis 2010-12-23T04:52:00

Not bad, beat it fairly quickly. Decent idea, good level design. The trial and error (or Discovery) is really what makes this game good, not annoying.

Science Tycoon! by Flyboy 2010-12-21T22:07:00

:( I was so looking forward to playing your game. I wanted to get all of the Science. Had a lot of potential.

Better luck next time.

Penguin! by Meep 2010-12-23T23:32:00

Great take on the discovery theme, I really like the process of going through the animals. It's like all the "who am I?" except the player knows.

Really wish there was audio, I pictured something like Ecco.

Where can I go now? by Mirroar 2010-12-22T08:27:00

Fun little game. I almost felt bad when I build a power plant on my cute little planet.

The music was really southing and peaceful, though the BGM loops a little weird, sounds like a record needle being moved back into place.

The enemies felt like they didn't really provide a challenge other than being roadblocks when you get fast enough.

I could do with a logbook or the ability to replay the data logs, I did end up forgetting where I had to go.

All-in-all a fun few minutes spent, great job!

plUNDER by Dark Acre Jack 2010-12-23T07:52:00

Bout time this game showed up on my list. I love a) that there is actually music... getting sick of playing games in utter silence, and b) that it's dynamic.

I still don't understand the need for both of the two camera types. Maybe being able to zoom out in map view or some kind of risk reward for using either.

The first time I dove really deep kind of freaked me out and I didn't want to go get the last chest. So... Good job!

Oh and... is there any difference between selecting "Weigh Anchor" and "Yarr!", I must know!

The Complex by Mr_Raa 2010-12-22T20:28:00

Can't get it running.

dis_covery by jagttt 2010-12-21T06:54:00

All elements work very nicely together, really well done. I'm not sure if I know what some of those things did though, guess I'll have to play it again :P.

Attack of the time travelling pygmy from outer paleolithic (aka Time Pygmy) by deepnight 2010-12-23T23:43:00

Definitely one of the top games I've played so far.

StickMan's Discovery by DivideByZero 2010-12-23T04:43:00

Can't play, not exe... onto the next.

Land of Discovery by Lancelot Gao 2010-12-21T21:47:00

Overall really good game. Don't get too down about the restarting bug, stuff like that is to be expected in a 48 hour timeframe.

The camera is a little jumpy and kind of annoying, especially when trying to cast a fireball.

The tooltips are REALLY annoying, some way of closing them without waiting would help a lot.

The audio is good, it provides some player feedback which helps a lot. Could use some more visual feedback when fighting, I wasn't sure if it was me or the ball taking damage.

There is another bug I found, once you have gotten the priest's alter you can continue to run into him for experience.

Other than that, I love the concept, the world creation made for a unique experience every time. Great job!

Dey See Me Fallin' by zhennTil 2010-12-21T22:40:00

Dey See Me Fallin'... Dey Hatin'

Um, yeah. Not bad. The intro was pretty cool, I had no idea what to expect. The main game isn't too spectacular but definitely a few minutes well spent.

You need some way of getting out of the game in fullscreen. I had to ctrl-alt-del out.

Trip (n.) - an exciting or unusual experience (source: Merriam-Webster) by ThatSnail 2011-01-02T08:44:00

Windows. =/

DiSub by k_wright 2010-12-23T04:06:00

Thanks for the feedback so far!

Once the holidays are over I'll be spending my spare time working to improve this game. So far I've got a few plans for tuning and balancing. As well as spending more than 2 minutes on HUD elements... wouldn't mind making new models either.

I've been rating games like crazy and looking forward to more comments.

Beacon of Hope by aallx 2010-12-23T04:37:00

I believed in myself... I think I lost.

Land of the Fishies by EricTheCoolDude 2010-12-20T06:13:00

Yeah the hard failure is pretty harsh, maybe a "stamina" system like so many sim date game. But I agree with Furyhunter, the music was amazing, I was bopping back and forth the whole time.

The Amazing Discovery of a Blob Named Harold by thewinterdrake 2010-12-21T22:16:00

YEAH TOAST! Not a bad little platformer. Overly simple level design but the art style and audio was cute enough that it made up for it.

.WormFood. by Epskampie 2010-12-21T00:12:00

That first level is intense. I do like how each one requires a different thought process but the difficulty seems to be in reverse.

Grand Mystic Quest of Discovery by hulahulahest 2010-12-21T20:45:00

Great overall game. One of the better classic adventure games I've seen in this compo. The spells work really well together and the level design.

The keyboard layout was a bit hard to handle during the more precise timing, I found myself hitting the wrong key a lot of times.

Great difficulty ramping...

**SPOILER**

I spent about 20 minutes in the feather room. The ladder behavior was a bit annoying when you have to jump and most in quick concession. But that's all part of the focus on timing.

**SPOILER**

The graphics are great, all of the art fits the style.

Very minimal bugs.

Awesome job!

Run by Cosine 2010-12-29T08:08:00

The file hosting seems to have broken, I couldn't download your game.

Dinosaur Dance-Off by Draknek 2010-12-30T06:35:00

Definitely a good time-sink I think I made about 20 different dinosaur things.

This may be the best: http://www.draknek.org/dance/?dino=3yln

LD20 — It's Dangerous to Go Alone! Take This!

VIGILANCE by randomnine 2011-05-04T03:28:00

Awesome job! Had kind of a Fight Club feel to it.

Change of Heart by sfernald 2011-05-03T04:06:00

I really liked this. You took a big risk with the style of game but I think it paid off.

I'm pretty sure I got the good ending too :D

the Child by Dark Acre Jack 2011-05-03T05:20:00

The hellish baby whine is super creepy!

Congrats on finishing LD48!

Appy 1000mg by deepnight 2011-05-03T04:24:00

Really well done, funny, awesome art style, great mechanics. I'd say we have the winner here.

The Dark by Shane Gadsby 2011-05-02T06:12:00

Your 'Web' button links to your source files. Gonna rate Windows games later, but just wanted to let you know.

Dungeon Runners by Valandre 2011-05-06T23:09:00

Well done! I feel like it was balanced in such a way that all your heroes are used by the end of the game. Or at least that's the best I could do.

Robots nicked my stuff! by tayron 2011-05-03T01:52:00

Crashed on startup for me too, Windows XP.

It is Dangerous to Go Alone in the Dark by fueelin 2011-05-03T02:11:00

You are likely to be eaten by a Grue!

I actually beat the first three levels without using the flares... mostly cuz I didn't know about them.

ZombieRunner...Ware by TellusE 2011-05-02T23:04:00

Nice change of mechanics with the different items, though babies are OP. I actually died right away the first time because the zombies spawned right on my and I couldn't build up speed. Also, braaains...

CAT in the city by athanazio 2011-05-03T22:45:00

The framerate actually got better the more I waited. But ya, more optimization is needed to make this playable. The voice overs were funny.
