brains, brains, brains....

k_wright 2011-05-02 23:04

Nice change of mechanics with the different items, though babies are OP. I actually died right away the first time because the zombies spawned right on my and I couldn't build up speed. Also, braaains...

milo 2011-05-03 01:49

Finally, I feel qualified to use whatever I have on hand to fight off zombies! Although... I feel the sudden desire for... braiiins...

rikkard 2011-05-03 06:08

Pretty fun. My sheep got stuck between two walking zombies and I died, but other than that smooth sailing.

rialgar 2011-05-03 17:54

*sings* (to indiana jones)
kill a zombie...
take a spear...
take a babie...
ride a sheep and die!

funny game for short periods of boredom, nothing exciting though.

how ever I still hunger for brraaaiiiins

telluse 2011-05-03 20:42

Thank for for the utter lack of extreme punishment in your criticism :) You seem to have experienced what I had hoped from the game - a brief (very brief) fit of laughter and not much else.

I had grandiose plans for a selection of different items trying to restrict the player as much as possible to the workings of that one item (sparklers, shields, guns with ammo, guns without ammo...) - unfortunately, I spent all too much time just getting the few ones there in a relatively functional state. Spear rotations, baby tears, several hours just figuring out why normal collisions worked in some parts of my code and not others (turns out collision() needs to be called very early on in the game loop).

I'm trying to figure out if I should spend the time and polish it up - a bunch of levels (one for each item archetype), randomly seeded at the start of the game and improve both audio and visual impressions. Any thoughts or should this just be the LD48 learning experience.

Oh, and Rialgar just made my week :D That's going on a T-Shirt. Or a Ringtone, or my login sound. "ride a sheep and die"... heh.

I would have liked to see some sort of victory ending screen after a few minutes to provide closure, but overall not bad given the constraints.

hamster_mk_4 2011-05-04 06:00

It would have been nice to do more than hold the 'D' key down for the baby and spear levels. Still good "brains" sound effects.

grungi-ankhfire 2011-05-04 14:19

Funny, if really unchallenging. As others said, the "braiiins" sound effect was neat :) If you upped the challenge, and worked on having some clever level design around the items, this could become something really fun to play. Also, I must commend your awesome participation in the community aspect of the LD. Regular blog posts, timelapse, and informative comments. Grats !

The dude's 360 degree spinning head is total hilarity!

randomnine 2011-05-05 09:56

404 on the download link?

telluse 2011-05-05 11:52

Hey Random, I just saw. Turns out I crashed my server :P

If I don't have the web up in 15 mins I'm uploading the game to Dropbox temporarily.

telluse 2011-05-05 11:56

And it's back again. I apologize to those who tried to play the game to no avail (and I appreciate them trying).

the-jack 2011-05-06 00:45

Oh man, this hit all the right notes. Funny, fun, and full of zombies.

And a screaming baby! Perhaps the escaped mutant child from a certain research hospital? ;)

Well done, I thoroughly enjoyed this.

haqu 2011-05-06 04:49

haha, really fun game. great job! ★★★★★

haqu 2011-05-06 04:52

unicode in comments isn't supported? hmmm... these were 5 star symbols :)

blodyavenger 2011-05-06 18:00

That's a nice little game! Only thing that bothered me was the spear weapon for which you don't really need any skills. I could just point spear diagonal down infront of me and watch with my hands crossed how everything gets impaled.
Overall, it's really fun, well done! :)

arielsan 2011-05-07 15:58

Game becomes quite repetitive but thanks that is fixed a bit by the different weapons mechanics. Tried only some weapons, Crying baby was the best one. I really like how game mechanics changes between using one or another weapon.

Dialogs were great too, it gives the player the feeling he is interacting with the game. Also, they made me laugh a lot.

Excellent music and great sounds.

Great work and good luck.

cirrial 2011-05-08 16:03

Well, I have to admit, it was pretty funny. I liked the little ending texts that could come up. I never saw item #3, though. :< I'll have to try again later. Nice short game. Art made me crack up. The look on the guy's face while carrying the spear, man. Amazing.

mwest 2011-05-10 19:26

Very well done! I enjoyed it in spite of the lack of challenge :P!

The spear so long it looks like you can pole vault with it (hint hint game mechanic idea); the baby was hilarious and I just loved sheep-riding zombie-crowd-surfing my way to 2800 kills before being killed at the end of a level, because my spear rotated to the left as the screen stopped scrolling... at least I took 2800 zombies with me!

Was a hoot and all-round very well polished - congratulations on a great entry!

8bitmuse 2011-05-11 09:35

Well done! It would have been nice to have a definite ending seeing as the game seems to keep cycling through items. Grahpics are well done and I loved the intro screen, really funny lol. Plus the background music and particle effects on the babies tears were nicely done.

philomory 2011-05-21 22:31

The levels were kinda monotonously long. Also, the baby level was, as far as I could tell, impossible to fail, so it was kinda dull. On the other hand, bouncing around on the sheep was fun, and the music and sound effects were quite good. Text was fairly amusing.

increpare 2011-05-22 01:18

spear, two sheep, two babies. Not bad!
