This. Is. AWESOME.

legacycrono 2011-05-02 12:53

Very nice! I really liked the fighting system, works really well. Good job!

yrael 2011-05-02 16:21

Awesome game ! Fits the theme and the combat mechanics are really cool !

bentosmile 2011-05-02 21:12

Haha so awesome :D

lorddon 2011-05-02 23:46

Just like Beacon, this is brilliant. This is also hilarious.

erik 2011-05-03 02:16

Wow! Great job. I couldn't believe it when my character started kicking people on the ground. Very clever, and very well done. This actually reminded me of Commies a little, which is kind of neat. I found I had some lag in the afternoon sections, particularly on the last day.

mpc174 2011-05-03 06:48

This game is a thing of manic beauty and insane logic. Great presentation.

gopher 2011-05-03 09:37

had me remembering Double Dragon back in the NES days. Great entry :D

kylerhoades 2011-05-03 12:54

This is the best game ever

grungi-ankhfire 2011-05-03 14:48

Too much fun :-)

the-jack 2011-05-04 03:17

Amazing work, really inspirational.

k_wright 2011-05-04 03:28

Awesome job! Had kind of a Fight Club feel to it.

stigrv 2011-05-04 19:49

Amazing game!! Great graphics, great storyline. Really good job.

hectigo 2011-05-04 21:26

Excellent game! Never before have I beat up so many people in a game about giving out personal alarms, and that's saying something.

cosr 2011-05-05 09:29

That was amazing. Good everything and really solid; can't think anything more constructive to say.
Though I did think there's was a bit too much delay before going to a new area after walking off the edge of the screen in the afternoon.

superflat 2011-05-05 17:33

Like the concept a lot. It fell down in practice for me, for a couple of reasons. One which is not design-related - I got horrible performance on my 8-core desktop, which seems a little off (maybe 10-15fps with no other Flash windows.)

This could be a quirk which might be fixed by rebooting, so I'll let you know if so (although other LD games have run ok.)

The second was the combat - I found it too hard to read what the enemies were doing, and so I just hammered X and generally lost haha. Some kind of tutorial where you see the enemies blocking and so on might really help. Of course this may well be much better with a proper framerate.

Anyway, will check again, it has a lot of charm about it.

drpetter 2011-05-05 18:10

Funny, and it sort of works rather well. I have some trouble with the fighting though, it gets "sticky" later in the game and I have a hard time getting further. Lots of safe students gang up on me and won't let me maneuver. I guess I'm just not very good. There's probably some strategy and timing with the blocking and counter-moves that I don't manage to see yet. Background scenery is creative :)

randomnine 2011-05-05 23:25

superflat: thanks for trying it out! I'd love to know if it's still broken later - I'm not all that experienced with Flash yet so I can't rule performance issues out.

DrPetter: the main thing is that groups are bad news, so you need to assault people by themselves and run away if a group starts coming over like any good ninja/happy slapper. Running along the background in stealth mode (move up to the top of the screen and stop for a second) means even pissed off students you've already fought with won't see you.

I'll definitely work in a combat tutorial - I had one planned for the middle of the first cutscene but didn't have the time!

** RIVER CITY SAFEWALK **

Wow, this was really good!! The concept and dialogue was hilarious. Fighting was pretty fun and I did have to learn techniques to beat the last two levels. Good art. Big ups.

matthias_zarzecki 2011-05-06 11:43

It made me cry.

elbowroom 2011-05-07 10:44

Yay, awesome sums it up. I can't find the words to describe how good this is. It is absolutely brilliant, the cut scenes are amazing. The game has so much atmosphere and so much personallity ' in between the lines ' .
One thing bothered me though.. I had no idea how to do better in the game.. I don't mean the fighting system.. I mean (that in itself sums up the theme it is dangerous to go alone.. take this! *punches lone student* ).. How to do better in the part where you hand out alarms?
Anyhow.. would be cool to use weapons :)

I absolutely love this game, thank for making it.

elbowroom 2011-05-07 12:00

I noticed (read the code) attacking students doesn't directly affect your chances in collecting donations/handing out alarms to students.. I think it could have been better if you had limited time to attack students and the more you attacked the greater the chance to hand out alarms would be.:) :)

switchbreak 2011-05-07 20:15

Fantastic. I loved the character sprites and the animation.

brainiac256 2011-05-07 23:29

The input seemed a little glitchy, there would be moments when running that the game thinks I'm tapping left very very fast but really I am just holding it down. This definitely hindered the run-away-from-groups aspect of the fighting. I love the concept though, and I'm impressed with how finished it seems just after a few days. I agree that a combat tutorial would be helpful, at first I thought there would be a quick scene with the other girl in the headquarters, but then it just cut to the park.

eli 2011-05-08 06:50

Excellent game! Except for a few minor flicker-glitches, the graphics really made it nice. The variety, the wide range of animations, etc. The music complemented this nicely!!

The fighting system is totally fun. I just read some negative comments, and I can't say I agree with any of them. The game led me naturally to becoming a bush-hiding predator who assaults students as soon as they stray from the pack. There's a wonderful guilty pleasure when you knock some poor kid down and kick them until their health bar turns yellow. Then it's back into the bushes.

Cutscenes were frustrating when I was being timed to do something, and the timer is counting down while someone is speaking. My humble suggestion is to pause the timer while getting feedback from a student.

The plot holding the dual objective mechanic together was nice. As mentioned in the comments, having them actually affect one another might improve the experience. Also ... we already gave out enough of those alarms on the last day .. besides being a sadistic charity worker, why would I still go to the park and beat everyone up? :D

hexygen 2011-05-08 09:56

Really nice game, cool fight mechanics. Had some moral problems with beating the crap out of people when they're down but that's ok, it's only a game :P

mwest 2011-05-09 22:44

Brilliant! :D

endurion 2011-05-12 17:03

Grand game :)
Dark humour and well executed. Only thing is that sometimes my pressed keys seemed to be stuck (player kept running in a direction)

kvisle 2011-05-13 17:48

Perfect interpretation of the theme :)
