LD20 — It's Dangerous to Go Alone! Take This!

VIGILANCE by randomnine 2011-05-07T23:29:00

The input seemed a little glitchy, there would be moments when running that the game thinks I'm tapping left very very fast but really I am just holding it down. This definitely hindered the run-away-from-groups aspect of the fighting. I love the concept though, and I'm impressed with how finished it seems just after a few days. I agree that a combat tutorial would be helpful, at first I thought there would be a quick scene with the other girl in the headquarters, but then it just cut to the park.

Firefox 3.6 on Ubuntu with Sun JVM, worked fine here, but doesn't seem to be interactive beyond "press enter to advance". Is this a feature or a bug?

I'm having some screen flicker issues--a pink background with a purple oval? Also, I got the combos just by holding down the space bar. That's pretty much all I did through the whole game.

The graphics and animation is pretty good for the time you had to work on it! Mad props for that, I don't think I could have pulled that off.

Oh, you hold up and down? I thought it was only up, it took me forever to get the ball bouncing. Up and down is definitely faster.

This was pretty amusing. Also, today I discovered that GameMaker executables run well in Linux with Wine! Yay!

Also also, you should probably make ALL the ground tiles non-passable rather than just the border tiles. I jumped off the screen and landed inside a block of dirt: http://i.imgur.com/LoQ5o.png

I think there's something wrong with the .jar file. I've opened it with every JVM I have installed and I only apparently get the level editor. Eventually I got it to drop into the game by pushing some button (at this point I was mashing the keyboard, it could have been ` or PgDown or something, I'm not really sure).

When I finally figured out how to drop into actually playing the game, I got to the little pearly thing at the end of the level and it didn't advance levels. (I assume the pearly thing is for advancing levels.) This is probably an artifact of it being in level editor mode to begin with.

I'm going to hold off on rating because it seems like nobody else had this issue. BTW this is on Ubuntu Linux 9.10 if that makes a difference.

Protip: If it doesn't run for you under Linux (because of missing or out-of-date libraries or whatnot) it runs fine in Wine (assuming the bug where I can fall through a platform in the Jump portion of the game is also present in the native Linux binary).
